Six of us came in around dinner time on a Saturday night. Hank's is located in the North Slope neighborhood, not far from Stadium. Great ambiance- lots of seating. They did have a beer garden but it was a cold Spring night, so we sat inside. You order at the counter, not a huge fan of that. The place was packed so the line was very long. The two guys behind the bar were friendly and did their best to keep the line moving. Cocktails were great. Food was ok- not a fan of the pizza but it was great for bar food. Hank's is a located in the neighborhood just blocks from my AirBnB and was recommended by our host. The patio had televisions where I could enjoy sports. We were staying at an AirBnb down the block in the historic North Slope neighborhood. We happened to be traveling with our little dog named HANK, so we just HAD TO do Hanks for dinner. They had a robust selection of beers and a full bar to my delight. We shared an aloha calzone that was perfect. We're from the NY/NJ area originally and love a good cheese-stuffed doughy deliciousness. We also had the honey saracha wings which had a perfect amount of heat. Finally tried this place after hearing about it so much. We ordered the jalapeño bacon cheese dip, K Street Kicker pizza and beers. The dip was good, definitely has a kick but the pizza was a little disappointing since people rave so much about it. It wasn't bad but the crust tasted and looked like premade ready to use crust. Overall we liked the place enough to go back, probably not for pizza but the sandwiches looked good. read more

Took my brother here for his birthday with a bunch of friends and basically ordered a variety of appies. For a bar that serves bar food, it was not bad, but you gotta also remember it's bar food so your standards should not be that high. The bartenders were pretty cool and fast at getting things out to us. This is a lively bar that is located within the neighborhoods and we came on the weekend too! So pretty packed and busy. We got a couple pizzas, a calzone, meatballs, cheese breads, nachos, quesadillas, pretzel, and tots. I've been here before and I have to say their calzones got smaller than what they used to be. Kinda bummed out by that, cause that was what I was looking forward to, their giant calzones. The pizzas were also not that great this time. The dough ratio was way more than the toppings and sauce. Our server: bartender was Lisa and she was such a sweetie. As a visitor it is so visible that this is quite a frequently visited neighborhood bar. Some of the best overall pizza in the Tacoma area. The crust is the perfect balance of thin crispy bottom and fluffy crust. Of course you'll need to do the local thing and get a side of ranch. If you're a wing person, don't SLEEP. An absolutely wonderful place. Fast drink service (food is good, so don't expect it to immediately come out - that's better for your stomach). Bartender was friendly/zengo. Yeah, google that!! I've had the pizza, it's fire. But, the reason I continue to come back, the wings. If you like a classic buffalo wing, this is THE spot. I went here on a date, the bar was a packed house full of white people. My husband and I are African American, and I have never felt so uncomfortable in my life. We were being stared at like crazy. After ordering our food and it was delivered to our table we didn't see another worker on the floor. So, I went to the bar and politely said excuse me 4 times before she acknowledges me. When I did get her attention, she said I see no one trained you right! I said excuse me? I said to her you weren't even making a drink you was just standing their chit chatting with your coworker. She said next time you see me talking have some respect until I get done talking. I have never been so embarrassed and disrespected in my life. When the entire bar applauds your departure, maybe you're the asshole? A couple of women at the table next to us yelled "Oh my god, the president's been shot!" We all looked at our phone, saw the the president had not been shot, and though saddened that there had been an attempt on the former president's life, tried to continue on with our very pleasant afternoon in the warm summer breeze. These ladies would not let us enjoy the wide selection of cold, local brews. The tried to get the bartender to change the TV to the news. She politely told them that they don't put the news on their TVs. The two ladies continued to loudly complain, talked about leaving, but wouldn't, since they had some fresh seasonal craft cocktails to drink. Instead, they sat staring at their phones, loudly providing unwanted commentary. Finally, another patron asked if they would tone it down as it was disturbing her enjoyment of the grapevine shaded side patio. The loud ladies called her a fat b*tch and started getting in her face. Some of the surrounding patrons got involved at told them that they'd better leave. Amongst the yelling, the bartender came out to intervene, telling them that they had to go. On their way out they shouted insults at the rest of the patrons and yelled that they'd never be back. Everyone else yelled back, almost in unison, "Good, never come back." and started to applaud. They yelled "You're applauding the PRESIDENT GETTING SHOT?" I yelled back "He's not the president! We're applauding you getting kicked out!" Oh, and the pretzel was really good. read more

Good Pizza. Beautiful wood decor. Not much else. LOUD there's no noise dampening in the one room wooden bar. Patio seating available. No table service- there can be quiet a line but they keep it going pretty fast. Full bar leaves some to be desired. They have medium/top shelf whiskies but no sour or gingerale. Do they value minorities here ? Went in on a Friday afternoon,first time customer. I looked up hanks ordered a few pizzas and some wings for my family. I live in federal way so it was about 30 min drive. I get into the bar area to let an employee know I have a call in order. There was two ppl at the bar just finishing up their order and while I was waiting another customer walked up near me. After the bartender finishing with the couple she looked at me and the other customer said who's next, I looked at her because I know she saw me standing there first. The customer next to me looked at me to basically let her know I was there. She looked at me again and said "the line in right here". I was literally 3 feet from where she was talking about. I didn't see a line sign and even if there was she could have said "there is a line but what can I get you I saw you there". The bartenders name was Paige, it clearly looked like there was a racial undertone to the experience. Not sure if this is the kind of place for minorities if this the way they treat all of us. It was truly an ugly exchange. She never took my order another employee had to come over and help me. The other customer that saw it looked shocked as well. Moved my son up to Tacoma last week. We arrived late on Sunday night and after getting checked into hotel, we wanted to get some drinks and food. Went to Parkway Tavern first but arrived too late for food so they suggested we go a few blocks away to Hanks. After playing a couple of rounds of darts and a couple of beers, we walked over to Hanks. Upon arrival, we asked if it was too late for food and they said the kitchen was still open. We ordered a couple of beers and a Pepperoni, Italian Sausage and Roasted Garlic Pizza. The Pizza was absolutely amazing. Would highly recommended this place for sure. read more

Wow I was floored by the decor love the fact that the wood came from the old ER Rogers. Don't go hear if you are looking for a quiet place to grab a bite. But do show up for a good beer selection and some good pizza. I had the dynamite pizza and it was good had a good little bite to it and it was quite tasty. I also had the jalapeño dip which was really good, I would order them both again. I must say this place was busy as all get out and you have to order at the bar. Visited Hank's for date night this last Friday and had a great time! Pro tip: Come early (ish) because they get suuuper packed! By 9:30 there was a consistent line down the entire bar. Staff worked quickly through it, though. They had a good selection of beer on tap and they also had picklebacks for our tequila shots, which is always a bonus! All of the bartenders were pretty friendly too. For food, we did the Jalapeno Cheesy Dip and the White Rabbit pizza. The Jalapeno Dip was sooo good. Perfect kick to it and overall just really tasty! It's served with crostini rather than chips which I actually really liked. The White Rabbit was also really good. It's a white sauce pizza with artichoke and mushrooms (yum) but we also added bacon to it - highly recommend! Another highlight is the beer garden - it's a great size and has two tvs out as well. The entire beer garden is covered in ivy and string lights and it's just a really cozy vibe. Hank's will definitely be in our regular rotation - can't wait to come back and try more of the menu! read more

In the evenings the inside is noisy and bustling - however there is outside seating that can be more quiet albeit, if you are looking for a place that is quiet this would not be my first choice. Hanks is a great place to run into a friend, neighbor or make a new friend!! It's pretty common for people to buy shots for strangers and strike up conversation in the order line. I love the social atmosphere here and the bartenders are amazing and super friendly. It's nice to go to a Tacoma bar and not be met with the typical salty, Tacoma Ice. Cheers! We love Hanks. A great neighborhood gathering place for locals and visitors alike. Recently our party of 12 went in with birthday cake to celebrate a birthday party. The staff was friendly and inviting. She. It was time to enjoy birthday cake and sing the entire bar joined in. What a breath of fresh air. Absolutely love Hanks. I take all my Hawaii ohana here when they visit and when they go back to Hawaii, they always ask how Hanks is doing..lol! Great, consistent food. Just moved nearby and have been here twice in a week! Service: GOLDEN both times. Bartenders were not too busy, not too rushed, treated everyone with kindness and great service. Food: FABULOUS! My son got the pepperoni and sausage pizza and I got the White Rabbit and both were delish! Got the soft pretzel today with the beer cheese and a side of mustard and it has some garlic flavor and parm cheese - just enough to make you want another one!
