My grandparents once farmed cattle on the Arroyo Seco, Pasadena in the early 1920's. We had a beautiful picture of them, my uncle as a toddler and a calf. Along with that we had multiple tools of the trade from their farm (tattoo kit, ear tags, suture). If I could give this place no stars, I would! I live close by this local place, and so I was excited to give a small company my business (given the economy and all). I was reframing a sports collage for my boyfriend's 27th birthday. I took it in, and was given a very expensive price quote ($300) but my boyfriend was worth it, and I assumed they'd do good work. They ended up taking over 2 weeks to do no work. Then the owner Lonnie called to inform me that the mat I picked was back ordered, and he'd give me another mat "at no cost." I agreed. He proceeded to call me the next day and request I pay $40 for the extra mat. I was outraged. He argued with me for over 15 minutes, made me cry, and told me there was no reason he "should eat the cost." There was a ton of miscommunication (which I can understand), but his lack of professionalism, inconsideration, and disrespect turned me off the most. I'd rather spend $500 elsewhere than give him my business. He was unprofessional, rude, and a pathetic excuse for a business owner (especially a small company that needs business). My boyfriend ended up demanding a refund and picking up his pictures. I am now without a birthday present for him, and am left with an emotional and horrible taste in my mouth. I plan on never returning, and advise you to take your business elsewhere! read more

They were nice but expensive. They did one of the frames wrong, so I had to go back and have them re-do it. They forgot one of them, so I had to call them and remind them and then they were delayed a day and the order was already after we were scheduled to pick it up. Also, every picture has dust or particles stuck inside on top of the picture and it's annoying constantly seeing trapped dust in the frame. For the price, the frames look cheap and almost scratched and not well maintained. read more

Wow! Amazing service! I need to frame 5 prints and didn't know where go. Lonnie's prices were a fraction of what Aaron Brothers were and he had a vast collection of frames. He was spot on when helping me with the design aspects of matting and color coordination. Beyond all that he went above and beyond for us. He repaired and touched up a print we had dropped and broken. He did it on the spot, in minutes for a nominal fee. He re-framed a print that I dinged up on the way home free of charge within an hour. Owner is a huge dick. Went to frame my jersey there.. quotes me 400$. I give him my credit card to charge, and he comes back with a receipt that says 436$. I tell him that he said 400$, and he says that was without tax.. tells me that he can't control Uncle Tom. I called him out on how it should be 400$ if that's what he told me ... and he got upset and started to argue with me and goes on to tell me that his business is quality work and blah blah blah. Starts yelling at me saying that it's not his responsibility to pay my tax and what not... it wasn't even the price or the "tax" that bothered me... but usually when someone quotes you a price, it's including tax. Any quote if ever received from any type of business in my lifetime was including "tax". If someone tells me it's 500$, it's 500$. They don't take my payment and then come back with a bigger amount then what They told me. He probably does this to come up on his customers. I ended up framing the jersey there after all, but was really turned off by the way he treated me. He ended up refunding my card the 436$ and I payed him 400$ cash, but he caused a commotion in his store and embarrassed me in front of everyone. His work is nothing special. Next time I'll take my business elsewhere where the customer service is better and the work is better. read more

We found The Creative Play online and decided to take a newly purchased painting to them for custom framing. As soon as we started working with Lonnie (the owner) on selecting a frame and the appropriate matting options we were incredibly impressed at how keen his eye is for aesthetics. Because the two paintings we took in were our first time working with Lonnie we were not sure what to expect when we picked up the frames, but we picked them up yesterday and we were SPEECHLESS! We couldn't thank him enough for the help he gave us in making our selections because the end product made our modest paintings look like they are worth millions! During the framing process Lonnie also called to let us know that a linen mat had come in instead of the more basic mat we ordered, and he let us know that he thought it would actually look great and that it was a much more expensive option. So he said he would use it no extra cost to us and if we didn't like it he would change it back to our original mat at again no extra cost. When we say the mat we were so pleased and lucky we didn't have to pay for the mat :-) I also have to comment on the price of The Creative Play because they are beyond competitive. Just to be sure, we took another painting to Michael's to see how much they would charge us for their "custom framing" service. For a middle grade frame and one mat they were going to charge us $145 (which included their 60% off sale and an additional $10 off that would last only one day). We then took the same paiting back to The Creative Play and we picked a high quality frame, two mats and when all was said and done Lonnie quoted us $130! My husband and I knew at that moment we were customers for life! Overall, I cannot recommend anywhere with more sincerity. This is a great shop and once you visit them you feel like you have become a part of a framing family!
