I recently attended a wedding reception here, which is a cool venue. It was nostalgic because it was the first place I ever crowd surfed, but the biggest annoyance for a reception is being seated upstairs and leaving stuff (aka purse) at your seat to go downstairs to dance. Not all upstairs guests were able to view the special dances (first dance, father-daughter, etc.) and tables were a bit close together so don't bother getting up during dinner. I liked that there was a bar on each level (although drinks were better and stronger on the second floor). Staff was great and bathrooms were clean. I wanted to get some fresh air so I stepped outside on the patio, only to inhale the weed being smoked next door at Elektricity night club, where there was an outdoor stage and people gettin' their freak on. * The music from next door couldn't be heard from inside the Crofoot though (at least while the music inside was playing) read more

Overall very nice and clean venue that ran very smoothly, venue was clean and had no hiccups. My unfortunate experience was at the indoor bar. This was my first time at this venue, but I've been to elektricity which is right next door dozens of times. My "heads up" in this review is in regards to the bar. When I go to concerts, I'm well aware drinks are expensive, but I wasn't expecting the bartender to expect all the change from what I was spending on my drink to all for him? I spent $40 on two double vodka Red Bulls, which were very weak. I handed the bar tender a $50 bill. I then watched him put my two $5 bills of change into the tip bowl himself and say thank you while giving me a smile, while I stared at him uncomfortably. Either way I was going to put the money in the bowl, but it's the overall act of what happened that sits unwell with me. I typically only go out once every 6 months because it's very expensive considering how drinks, ticket prices, and parking add up. Next time I'll have to think about paying with my card or consider not buying drinks here at all. read more

I saw Simply There here this past Wednesday night. I usually go to Detroit or Ann Arbor for concerts (or the Palace ... RIP) and I had never been to The Crofoot before. Their concert was actually at The Pike Room at the Crofoot, which was on the second floor of the building. Parking was easy, there's a lot across the street that was $5. We got there around 7:15pm, the concert was at 8 and doors were at 7. The Pike Room is a very small and intimate venue. Only about 30-40 people in total attended, which I was shocked by (Simply Three has millions of YouTube views! One video of theirs has 23M views ...), but it was also a very pleasant experience because we got to sit in chairs the whole time. They have both chairs and bar tables/barstools upstairs, as well as a full bar. The only reason this venue gets 4 stars from me and not 5 is because it was FREEZING the whole time. I think this because people kept going in and out one of the exterior doors (located by the bathrooms), perhaps to smoke or something. I kept my jacket on the entire time and it never warmed up. Otherwise, pretty neat little venue, and I definitely enjoyed the concert. read more

My first time at this venue to see GWAR. I'm so impressed with the way the staff interacted with the patrons. The moment we entered we were treated with much respect. No pat downs, no purse restrictions or probing, just a ticket scan and away we go. During the performance security up front were super careful to handle the crowd surfers getting near the barricades gently and with grace. No one was ejected or handled roughly. Went to this place for a wedding event. The place is smack dab in downtown Pontiac. This area brought back memories because they have dance club around their that I use to go to when I was 18. Lol The surrounding area was not the best and people would say it is sketchy. Luckily the parking lot across the street was open for free parking for the wedding. Upon looking at the building it is not the most appetizing venue to look at. It is very industrial. As you walk in there is someone who opens the door for you which is nice. The inside is very nice as you walk in. The beaulding has many rooms. The place is use for concert events which makes sense as well. The main hall has a stage and has light for mood lighting. Also, they have an upstairs that overlooks the main floor and stage. During cocktail hour we went into the side bar with had a long bar but the room was just weird. The walls looked unfinished but maybe that is the looked they are going for. In the summer they have an outdoor area with chairs snd firepit. Overall, the venue was nice. Very weird set up for weddings but that is just my opinion. The wedding itself was beautiful and they did an amazing time. The staff was nice and made some good drinks. read more

The Crofoot is great. I have no complaints whatsoever. The staff is great and very polite. The security does their job perfectly. It is on the smaller side compared to some venues, but bigger than a night club or bar, but by no means is it too small to have a good time. Never have I felt "too close" to somebody in the venue, there is still plenty of room to enjoy the show. I'm not an expert by any means, but to me, the sound quality is great and the layout of the venue creates a very fun atmosphere. read more

I wish i could review the reviews here and give 1 star to all the snobs dissing Pontiac. The location of the Crofoot is ideal for me. Detroit venues area far trek since I hail from northern Oakland County. I am happy we have this gem of a venue up our way. The town itself has seen better times, but so has most of Michigan- we are a rust belt state with the highest unemployment rate in the country after all... I find this location prime at least for suburban concert goers. Downtown Pontiac is near to all the main arteries in Oakland County. Woodward, Telegraph, M-59, I-75, Dixie Hwy- all are not far from the crofoot. The ballroom itself is not too small yet gives an intimate feeling. The building has been beautifully restored. I remember some concert-goers next to me hailing from Vancouver said they would love to actually move into the Crofoot Ballroom it was that visually pleasing and stylish to them. There are tables and chairs to sit at and last time i was there, a couch. The sound is great. Since it's not a ticketmaster/livenation venue the tickets are actually affordable. The acts are way deverse. I wish all my favorite bands weren't bound by their livenation contracts because i would love to experience them playing at the crofoot ballroom. There's good and bad things to say about this place. I've been going to shows for years at more venues then I can count. I've also worked at multiple different venues in Chicago. The good----- The ambiance and décor is rather nice for a venue. The sound was wonderful and the lighting is great. There's a balcony that actually has seats and tables. Too many venues make balconies standing room only. Parking was excellent and cheap also. The absolutely HORRIBLE---- THE STAFF. The staff here needs to be shown the door immediately if the owner wants to have a good image. There was zero line. ZERO people in line when I went to the ticket window to pick up my will call. You have to go in to a different UNMARKED door to get your will-call tix. When I got to the window, the crazy-eyed lady was sitting there and talking to a bouncer. She refused to wait on me for about 5 minutes. I waited and waited and waited while I heard the band start playing that I paid for. Finally she ends her conversation with the bouncer and reluctantly asks what I want. Guess what lady? I want to go in and see the band I payed for. I'm dressed nice. I have lots of money to spill. Get over yourself. ?????!!!!!!!????? Owners. Please tell me you'll address rude service! Why pay a worker to provide tix if they HATE customer service? Next: The bouncers! Oh man. They play the typical role of "I'm super cool because I work somewhere that you want to go. " Then they play, "I'm super tough and mean and talk to you like trash because since I'm a bouncer, I must be tough!" There is no reason for security to be any thing else other than polite at all times. This is professionalism. OWNERS: I would suggest getting rid of the high school drop out tough guys who think they can treat people like dirt and hire some decent hardworking folks. It's an employers market out there right now and you have a lot of people to choose from. I worked in bars for 15 years before getting my degree. As a manager I've seen the tough guy bouncers come and go. The thing is that when you open your doors with a scowl and an attitude, you set the night up with negativity. Keep bouncers nice and cordial and people normally follow suit, even during bar fights. The drunk aholes tend top leave nicer when the bouncers were cool to them earlier on. I arrive and the bouncers bark out orders to my group and talk to themselves without making eye contact with you and then bark more orders at you.. "HEY! If you plan on drinking then get over here and get a wrist band!" Then there is the coat check with the girl falling asleep. No thanks. Then the bartenders who think you owe them something rather than them waiting on you. This place is doomed to fail in time without new staff. OWNER: Business etiquette is easy. It improves business. The seats were uncomfortable and they didn't pay the band. My friend played a show there and after they were done, the venue informed her that the door wasn't enough to cover a previously undisclosed base fee. Yup. Minus one star for being in Pontiac. If real estate is about location, location and location, the Crofoot sucks, sucks and sucks. But let's move on. Easy to get a drink? Check. Nicest small club in SE Michigan? You betcha. Cool urinals that you don't flush? Awesome (I am a fan of innovative urinal technologies.) They also have what must be a first class booking agent, as my kind of bands seem to be constantly playing here. Maybe that should be two stars off for making me schlep here constantly... While I'm bitching, the sound has gotten better in the last year and a half, but they're still working out kinks. Its gone from really super suspect to a few mild problems. And seriously, stop making people wait in line outside the venue. It just happened to be raining the last two times I was here, and it is painfully obvious that they keep people queued outside longer than necessary just so it appears something cool is going on inside. This is a d-bag move and it needs to stop. But hey, still four stars. I'm sure I'll be dragging my ass up here for many years to come, forcing myself to drink far less Oberon than I would clearly like to imbibe. read more

I came here the other night for the Jagermeister Music Tour to see Pennywise. This was my first trip to The Crofoot, and I think the place is awesome for hangin' out and checkin' out bands. What I liked immediately is that I didn't have to wait long to get in. The doors opened at 7:00p.m. and I was in shortly after. In addition to my short wait, I also did not have to endure being frisked and searched. I was glad that I didn't have to deal with waiting in the female line where I'm told to open my bag, take everything out of my pockets so I can be felt up! The bartender's are polite and do not ignore you...big plus right there! I liked the atmosphere it was very open and the decor is trendy! The only drawback is that it is small. But to me a small place has the advantage of allowing the band to be more interactive with the crowd. The layout of the bar resembles Clutch Cargos with a wide center space, a bar along the left side, and a cat walk with access to an upstairs patio. Anyhow so I usually stand towards the back of the main floor during live shows but this place was so laid back that my boyfriend and I found a table with comfy chairs on the catwalk...we are usually never that lucky. The beers are average price... my New Castle was $4. Also, if you get hungry they bbq italian sausages, hot dogs and corn on the cob...it's kinda random but helpful if your drunk and starving. My boyfriend and I ended up getting a couple italian sausages with chips halfway through the show. Another distinction I noticed was that the main floor and catwalk remained cool and airy. I am usually fighting for air at live shows but this place has plenty of doors and they kept most of them wide open. Speaking of a lot of doors there are about four glass exit doors along the left side...so If something went down you can easily escape without being trampled. You are also allowed to bring point n shoot cameras...so I didn't have to sneak mine in. One setback was that the sound quality was not great and it was even a lil' scratchy. As for the performances Pennywise was awesome and the band was rockin' out playing mostly shout out song requests from everyone...again thanks to that great advantage of a small place. I have seen Pennywise many times and this was my favorite show by far and it had a lot to do with seeing them perform at an intimate place like The Crofoot! The show was awesome, and I'll definitely look forward to going to any future live shows here! My boyfriend and I left happy with no ringing in our ears! read more

The Crofoot has become one of the best venues within spitting distance of Detroit in terms of good bands at reasonable prices. I have heartfelt appreciation for whoever does the booking. The bars in the Crofoot, which are well spaced and offer great service, have a good selection of beers, and the bathrooms are so much nicer than most venues. My gripes are minor, and have to do with the limitations of the space in the ballroom. There are relatively few good spots to see the stage, so a moderate crowd means a less-than-ideal view. The ballroom has that great balcony, but show--goers tend to crowd the edge of the upper level and only a few people upstairs can get a good view of the stage. Giant speakers also block some of the balcony space. That said, the Pike Room offers an upstairs show space at the same location and under the same management. It's much cozier, has the same good bar service, and is so small that you can see the stage from every point in the room. I cherish the impossible wish that all of my favorite national acts will get just popular enough to come to Pontiac, but stay small enough that they merit the Pike Room instead of the Crofoot. read more

As I was walking towards The Crofoot, I had a sudden moment of terror that I was about to subject myself to a crowd of drunken teenagers trying to get people to buy them beer. At one such concert I attended a few years ago, the highlight of the evening was watching as people repeatedly slipped in a pool of vomit thoughfully lefy by some 15 year-old girl. Thankfully, the scene was nothing like that. I think this place must have recently opened; the decor appeeared too new and shiny to have withstood many drunken, smoking concertgoers. It can be a bit hard to find, as there is no sign installed in front, on Saginaw. Rather, there is a banner hanging over the Pike street entrance. Maybe they just haven't gotten a sign yet. Parking was easy; only $3 to park in the giant structure just a few blocks away. This is one of the nicest venues I've ever been to, which probably has something to do with it not being very old (?). It appeared to be part of a sort of complex, with a separate bar and a coffee shop that linked up to the music venue. I believe the stage area also functions as a dance club of sorts; after the show they definitely started rocking some Montel Jordan. South Central does it like nobody does! Eep. The best part, aside from the intimate setting and rather well-known acts (Pinback and MC Chris, The Polyphonic Spree), is the upstairs. In addition to the floor area, there is a wrap-around "balcony" upstairs, with great views of the stage, as well as tables and bar stools. We got there halfway through the first act, and easily got a table upstairs. Yeah, I'm getting old and standing next to some sweaty teenage boy who heard that moshing makes you cool just does not hold the appeal it once did. Not only do they have bars both upstairs and downstairs, they also have bathrooms on both levels. CLEAN bathrooms. I was shocked. The only thing that kind of sucked was that they allow smoking, so you'll definitely smell like an ash tray afterwards. read more

I got married at The Crofoot in September of 2018. Our experience was absolutely AMAZING. I was looking for a non traditional type venue, and boy did this place deliver. We still have guests from our wedding saying it was the best wedding they've ever been to. The venue itself is so unique and has such a strong aesthetic that you honestly don't have to do much to make this place look incredible. The staff at The Crofoot are also there every step of the way and made everything so effortless. I seriously felt very little stress during my planning and I think it was because Kristine (director of special events) had every detail thought out. Book your wedding here! This was a pretty good venue. The drinks were weak and overpriced, but the bartenders were good, attentive and friendly. The acoustics weren't the best, most of the sound dropped off as you step up to go to the bathrooms. But it was a surprising gem, considering the state of the town... Pontiac is a total ghost town. I'm not sure why you would park in a garage or pay to park in a lot, there is plenty of free parking on the streets -- if you are feeling up for the "risk". read more

We visited on Saturday to see Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Was a fantastic show, but Sharon please don't get as many people on stage next time. I wanted to see you and the band, not the locals all trying to dance and smooch up on you. To the drummer, cool acknowledgment/head nod. The warm up act were brilliant too. Big thumbs up for venue, location (20 minutes from Troy), plenty of bar space, split level. Three not so goods: 1) No music in the bar before hand, 2) Why do we have to leave the bar to queue up outside when we already have our wrist bands. 3) Why can we not exit through the bar doors when we leave. Overall, no real call for complaint, some things just need a little polishing. A definite regular place for myself and girlfriend. Well done Crofoot, keep it up. I agree with Jackie B. from Waterford. It's nice to have a music venue like the Crofoot (and Clutch Cargos) in closer proximity to my homebase (less than 30 minutes away, yay!). The gas ($$$) and extra travel time to head into Detroit proper to see an artist or band definitely makes me think twice. I happen to be one of the hopeful ones who thinks that when Detroit finally bounces back in 5-10 years quite possibly, Pontiac will finally be able to experience some of the positive overflow from the city itself and the surrounding suburbs. I am an optimist. I had the pleasure of paying a visit to the Crofoot for the very first time at a recent Yelp Elite event (more commentary at: http://www.yelp.com/biz/rock-out-with-your-yelp-out-elite-event-pontiac#hrid:erl_b9h2EWZT6I1Beoi3aQ ). I think it's helpful that, for the most part, on the Events section of the Crofoot website ( http://www.thecrofoot.com/events/ ), the establishment posts a sample music clip or link to the artists' website. This allows you to see if the music strikes your fancy if you've never heard a particular artist before. I, for one, am always looking to expose myself to new talent. I think having easy access to be able to listen to music samples and get band info in that way makes it possible to create new fans for the band and customers for the venue. Made a road trip up to the Crofoot for a show, and it was a really nice venue. It was a great size for an intimate show, where you have a good view from anywhere in the crowd. (Well, unless you're as short as I am...) For a sold-out show, it was packed in there, and even arriving 15 minutes after doors opened meant being stuck in the far back of the venue. Because it's so cozy, it can fill up fast. The staff was surprisingly nice, and there were great drink options from $2 beers to $7 crafts. The outside patio area off of the main stage was nice, too. read more

When I'm looking for concert tickets, I always check The Crofoot first. It's routinely had some of the best shows I've been to and it's worth driving out of my way to get there. I'm usually a fan of getting as close to the stage as possible, but I like that here I can be almost anywhere and still see the stage well (despite being a pretty short person). The only thing I'm not a fan of is the parking. The first time I went I got super confused both arriving and leaving. My suggestion is if it's your first time, come earlier than planned so you can figure it out. Plus it's cool to see the tour buses in the parking lot. read more

The setup of this venue for a concert is amazing. There is not a bad spot in the place. You are literally right on top of the artists. LOVE THIS!!!! Bars are located all over the place. Drinks are reasonably priced and tasty!! Parking lot was directly across the street, a short distance away. The only drawback, and reason for not giving 5 stars is the sound quality/mixing. For some reason, the lead singers of all 3 bands where very difficult to hear. The bands sounded amazing but were easily drowning out the vocals. In spite of this, we will certainly visit this club again and hope many shows continue to book The Crofoot. read more

For an alien like me, this place seemed to be lost in the middle of nowhere. We rented a car from East Lansing with a friend and took the road by night to see the Trance group Above & Beyond. When in Pontiac we couldn't imagine a night club could stand there but we eventually found the city center. The second surprise was the size of the place. Of course, we knew it was suppose to be a ballroom but still, it's not that big a place, especially for a Trance performance. But in the end, it was probably one of the best concert I've been to. The crows was quite small (I'd say, around 300/400 folks) but made of passionate folks whose enthusiasm never declined during the show. It was a really, really great atmosphere. Plus, it was really easy to move around and to access the bar. The only negative side of that night was the lack of lights. But fortunately that point is not a necessity for a good night IMHO. read more

Hard to review a venue when you've got extra stars in your eyes over the band you saw there... Loved going to the Crofoot for a show. It's a great space. Very intimate, without feeling claustrophobic. They bring in some amazing musicians. AMAZING. Again, I am distracted by the memory of Stephin Merritt and The Magnetic Fields. It was a stellar show. I'm left with nothing but happy eyes for everything the Crofoot team touches. Check them out online, their website is excellent. Casually glance down the party-people filled streets of Pontiac, Michigan on a weekend night, and you'll likely be subjected to some of the most bizarre scenes of your life. Watch in fear as sparklely topped drunk women cry about their latest break up while simultaneously making out with their best friends brother. Gasp in bewilderment as muscle-bound jocks rough up anybody who looks at them the wrong way. Try to not get your eye poked out as spikey haired slicksters try and pull you in to neon-hued tiki bars with offers of free body shots. And have pity on your ears, as all of this nonsense seems to be soundtracked by a woozy mishmash of watered-down techno and the latest 50 Cent single. Kind of makes you wonder if there is a place to find salvation from all this, right? Well, thanks to the Crofoot - Pontiac's premiere music venue, bar, and dining mecca - now there is. While the sluts and the jocks are running wild everywhere else, the Crofoot - a year old, multi-roomed joint featuring cutting edge live music, a patio, numerous bars, a million dollar soundsystem, some decent eats, and bathrooms sans penis-themed graffiti and that horrible "fish smell" - is bringing a little class back in to Pontiac's nightlife. Before we continue, understand this: The Croofoot is split up into various rooms, making your night there feel more like it's a revolving door of fun, rather than giving off that same old "stuck in one place" feeling that so many other venues do. First up is the Crofoot Ballroom: featuring super-classy wood floors, a balcony, three bars, and a sizable stage, this is where the big boys play. Hosting a variety of dance nights, the Ballroom has also seen packed shows from indie rock's elite, including Wolf Parade, the Hold Steady, Mudhoney, and Stars, just to name a few. By far my favorite and friendliest music venue. Whether it's Crofoot or Pike Room or the intimate Vernors, this is the place for a great show with good drink/beer prices and awesome sound. My show-going prime is long over. I still like to get out to hear live music whenever I can, but I find that this is only when a band I absolutely can't miss rolls into town. Or in the case with THE BREEDERS Crofoot show, into this corner of the state of Michigan. I used to go to Pontiac a lot in the 7th House/Industry days, but haven't made it out there much for a show this decade. I heard about the new venues, but haven't had much of a chance to get down there. I was geeked to finally check this new place out. Unfortunately, I missed the memo that the Detroit Dream Cruise was taking place on Woodward Ave that same night. Oy! After a really horribly hectic drive downtown, we found the venue, found a really close and free (!) parking spot, and went inside. My first thought was "Dang, this place is purdy for a rock club!" My second thought was "On to the bar!" Even though we got there about 10 minutes before the main act went on, the place was only about half full (the upstairs was closed, but looked like a cool place to sit and watch a chill show) and there was no line at the bar. The bartender noticed I was a bit frazzled and made me an extra strong drink after I explained the Dream Cruise freaked me out, bless her heart. The other bartender dude was equally awesome. These are the nicest (not to mention foxiest) rock venue bartenders I've encountered in a long time. Unfortunately, the beer was overpriced. $3 for a PBR? Really? The sound was ace and the show was amazing. Even Kim & Kelley Deal couldn't help but comment on how shockingly nice the Crofoot Ballroom was. Gosh, even the men's restroom was very big and clean. A clean john is one rock venue faux paux that I am willing to accept! I'm glad to see Pontiac having a rock venue resurrection. I don't really have any other reason to go to Pontiac (aside from Erebus, of course!), but this makes me thrilled that there are new places to go see shows. And it seems like the booker really knows what s/he's doing, because I'm consistently impressed at the line-ups this place has been getting. I really need to make an effort to get out there more often, because it's worth it. I'm only kickin' myself in the arse for missing Neko Case there last month! OH, did I mention the show was $17?!?!??! I can't remember the last time I paid such a low price for a show at a venue like this. And Crofoot doesn't go through Ticketmaster, so if you do will-call online, you're not paying a ridiculous amount in service fees. With Ticketweb will call, I paid a total of $22 for my ticket. I really like the Crofoot Ballroom's layout, but I have a single complaint... one of the security guards here is really a jerk. I was at a private event here, and this specific security guard was really rude to patrons unless he was aware that the sponsor of the event was in the room. I've been to the Crofoot for small bands, and it was fine. But NEVER WASTE YOUR MONEY ON A BIGGER BAND! After paying $40 a ticket, the venue was clearly oversold and at least 50 of us stood in the hallway the entire show!! You can't hear anything in the hallway. And of course, there was the constant stream of staff and public you have to move for. HOW WAS THIS NOT A FIRE HAZARD?! And to get served at the bar or coat check or anything, the person had to finish playing with their phone before they acknowledged you! I've been in a band and worked for several bands. Never have I had such a TERRIBLE concert experience! I hadn't seen my favorite band in years because of cost. I finally splurged on a ticket to stand in a hallway. The band, as always, was great. But I will NEVER go back to the Crofoot for another show. read more

This new venue is amazing, regardless of its less than amazing location. The Pike Room, The Eagle Theater and the Crofoot Ballroom all combine to bring you the best music you could imagine. The Pike Room is a personal new favorite venue. Their bathrooms, at least the female bathrooms, have special flushers so you can be ecologically friendly as you flush. The owners allegedly salvaged the wood that they could from the old building and used it in the renovation. Now if only they could do something like this for the abandoned buildings in Detroit. read more
