Came here to kill some time before watching Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (which was terrible btw). It was an absolute scorching day in the middle of summer and we figured we could kill some time and play some pool and hide away from the heat. We were the only ones inside the pool hall around noon, and halfway through our playing the A/C turned off making it extremely hot inside. When we asked about it, he just shrugged his shoulders and said its on. The cue sticks really suck. The balls also need to be cleaned. The tables aren't in the greatest condition. The lighting is awkward. But for $11 an hour, it's decent enough. The place was packed Saturday night but we were lucky enough to get the table closes to the dining area. I suggest that you ask for that one too because you don't can't bump into other people on 2 sides. The Cue Ball is a decent room. Although not on my must go to list, it's somewhat acceptable from a player's perspective. It has around 20 tables, most of them older Gold Crowns and few older Diamond Pro's in the front area. The price ranges between $6-$13/hr depending on what time and how many players. Pros: - Different selections of tables to choose from. Brunswick, Diamond, and 3 cushion. Although for the recreational player, none of that really matters. - They serve hot food from the kitchen. Cons: - Old worn felt on the tables. - Older balls, many are of different sizes so it is tough to rack them solid. - Flimsy triangles ensure a loose rack - No outside food or drink. OK that's not the con. I respect rules like that. But you can't even bring in your own water. It's just water for god's sake!! The owner lady is a Nazi when it comes to locating outside beverages even hiding behind a purse or anything like that. Makes you throw it out and buy a water. - Too many people in the evenings. because the clientele is mostly recreational, they mob 4-7 players per table. Yes, it gets crowded. The ethnicity ranges predominantly Asian to Latino. - If you want action, there might be a couple people in there, but generally people only play for fun in there. I'd give a C+ for equipment. B- for environment, and C for customer service. It's a playable room. It's just not a room that you would want to go to if you are looking to match up with anyone. Was always curious about this place. Boyfriend took me to this place to play some pool - well to learn how to play pool. It was so empty but it was like in the middle of the day on weekday...but it was still fun. The place was pretty dark and a little dirty and they only accept cash so make sure to bring enough because it can get pricey if you drink...we didn't drink at all but for the two of us it was $22 and we played for two hours at least. The guy that worked there - perhaps the owner - was very nice - gave me some tips and after that I was at least able to get a few good shots. The Cue Ball is where you need to bring Sand to the Beach! Unless your into asian guys, this place is all about pool. Don't expect to see any fine chicks here! You get some couples or folks on their first dates. Other than that, this place is purgatory for a single man. Great place to bond with your buds. The have beer and food is okay. If you want great food and the possibility of meeting your next hookup, don't come here. Tables are good condition, sticks are straight and the price is so so for the kinda of atmosphere. I used to come here alot in HS and it was way different. Lots of games all of the time, sharks, etc, but its is alot slower now. Tables are plentiful and its a great place to practice. Low key vibe and patrons seem to be respectful. If you wanna learn or want to teach someone, the tables are often open. Place is quiet enough to teach that honey you wanna nail in the corner pocket how to hold a stick properly. Slow rhythmic stokes, straight sticks, and good technique will always result in balls deep action. Great spot to meet up before you hit before you go out. My friends and I frequent this pool hall quite often. Our favorite place to go shoot some pool and kick back with friends. This family owned and operated establishment has been around since I can remember. They host approximately 20 tables for pool and 2 tables for carom billiards (If anyone knows how to play this game message me as I am interested in learning) The crowd is usually, largely asians with a little of everyone else thrown in here and there. The jukebox has just about any type of music that you can think of from old school gangsta rap to asian pop music to spanish tunes. Prices for a table are probably the most affordable in the area at $7 if you're playing alone to $10 playing in a group. The ladies that run the front counter have always been nice to us, but it probably helps that they recognize us from years of visits. House cues are well maintained and if you can't seem to find one out on the floor to use they have a stash nice cues behind the counter, just ask the people working there for help. Food here is usually pretty decent, and we used to make it a habit of getting a hot dog and a drink every time we came. Overview: The Cue Ball is an old school establishment, and for good cause; this billiard hall is hands-down the most AFFORDABLE joint in LA. $6-8 pitchers of beer, $5-12 pool hours, and $2-3 hot dogs and burgers. I can walk out of this joint buzzed, full, and tired for $20. In terms of hours of entertainment to cost efficiency, Cue Ball reigns supreme. Food Services: No liquor. Pitchers of beer for $6-7, bottles run for $2.75, mostly domestic with the exception of Blue Moon/Hef. Hot dogs are the boiled, tasteless weiners, and the burgers are so-so; the former is $1.35, the latter is $3. Fries are an exorbitant $3 a basket which are apparently made from imported, flawless, sanctified potatoes. Nothing really stands out, but the carne asada tacos, with a wedge of lime, are passable. Expect your order to take awhile. Pricing: There are 2 kinds of tables, carom billiards and pocket billiards. Premium hours (Fri, Sat, Sun day/nights) are decent, $12-$14 an hour, depending on if you're alone or with company. The (2) carom tables are somewhat pricey, running at around $16-$18, but do you play carom? Happy hour (2-7pm) prices are super cheap: $5 an hour if you're alone, $8 if you have company. No membership, no lockers, you can ask the register for a carom cue or a "better" pool cue. Check in with your ID. Services: The standard tables are worn, but well maintained, the felt is steam-cleaned monthly. The felt really stands out, with a surprisingly reactive grip and a very paced speed (unless it's hot). The pockets are slightly larger then regulation size, but the corners are very sharp, so your balls won't just limp in. The balls are all mediocre, some better then others, but clean. The carom tables and balls are PERFECT, but few shoot carom. The spacing is slightly packed, and if you're shooting near the foozeball/jukebox, interruptions are frequent. Decent jukebox, decent lighting, but get this: NO A/C! 90 degrees outside? 80 inside, super dry, so the felt gets FAST. Cramped parking. Cheap plastic racks. Crowd: 90% highschool, 50% hispanic. For the last decade, or so i've been told, Cueball was -the- place to get plastered as a minor. You get a lot of students on the weekdays, so if pre-teen is your thing, mon-thurs. So back home I used to shoot a lot of pool......like an unhealthy number of days were spent at pool halls. A few of my friends from back home visited, and it had been years since I had been to a pool hall, so we ended up here. I was hoping for something that would remind me of a pool hall from home, but as usual I didn't get what I expected. First of all, it looks like a pool hall (good sign). They have beer by the pitcher or bottle and food to go with it. We didn't eat, but we definitely had some beer. The tables are decent, their sticks aren't too bad, considering I'm used to testing out at least 3 sticks before finding a straight one (I found one on the first try). My biggest problem: too quiet. The pool halls I used to go to were always blasting music, jukebox or not. They have a jukebox, and I put money in it, but for some reason not many others were willing to keep it going. There were just too many quiet moments, and I'm not used to that at a pool hall. At the places I used to go to, there was a constant stream of music, which makes every shot you take more enjoyable along with every sip of beer you take that much more delicious. The crowd was also definitely in the high school range. Some older guys showed up later in the night, though. Either way, I had fun and it was nice seeing some friends from back home. I came here with an old college classmate today. Price for a pool table of 2 or more players is $10 an hour. Pricey but it's a pool hall and it was a smoke-free one at that. That's a plus in my books. Balls looked polished enough. Pool sticks were...just house sticks. Nothing special about them. The ones we played with weren't all that bad. If anything, I'd say they were half-way decent--better than the ones you'd find in a dive bar. It was my first time inside a pool hall. Totally different atmosphere from a dive bar that just happens to have pool tables. We weren't bothered by anybody or even the pool sharks that were there. It was a mostly Asian crowd with a couple of tables occupied by Hispanics. There are roughly 18-20 pocket billiards and two carom billiards. The two carom billiards are the closest to the bar/front desk which is all the way at the back when you first enter through the front door. There was a Mexican lady behind the counter and another Mexican lady beside her who was presumably her helper. You give them your ID (California ID or Driver's License) and they give you a set of balls with the chalk cues. They turn on the lights once you're at the table and the clock starts ticking. At the end of the day, after roughly two hours of playing, they charged us $19.50. Not bad but I wouldn't be playing here so often at that rate. Probably restrict myself from coming back here only once or twice a month. Would I come back? Maybe. Maybe not. The price per hour is the only factor that would keep me from coming back more often. read more

Cliff Notes: IMO, it's a nice pool hall! It has pretty decent balls, great tables, and pretty straight sticks. Spacious. I would come here often. Since this is a pool hall I'll talk about the pool first. Pool: Tables: - There are approximately..10-12 tables? That's an estimation. There's a good amount of tables. Those are for pocket pool. I believe there are 2 tables for billiards (non pocket pool) possibly one of those is snooker I didn't pay too much attention. - Tables are very well lit. They are flat, cushions are firm, pockets are semi-tight. They are not worn out at all don't get me wrong. They just aren't super tight where your shot doesnt go in if it's not perfect =P Balls: - Balls were decently waxed, they seemed fairly new, rolled very nicely on the tables. Cushions and balls ate spins/english very well. Cues: - Most of the time I come I bring my own stick, but from what I remember and from friends, it was not hard to find a good straight stick. The tips were decently maintained, not many WTF wobbly curved sticks with fucked up tips and ferrels at all. Food: - I got their french fries. BOMB. very good hahaha. $3.75 for em, decent portion, no complaints. - They currently have some food/drinks specials during a specific time. possibly 1pm-5pm? I forget, but it's a burger, fries and a soda for $4.25? I want to try their burger knowing that their fries are bomb. - Seemed like they have a bunch of food on their menu, sandwiches maybe, etc etc. Maybe I'll update next time I go. I love shoot pool! Right after high school, I been shoot pool almost every night with friends at Cue Ball and Embassy Billiards. Me and my friend come here almost every week after work. The lady work here always save us the nice table next the jukebox. Now! if you're looking for good nice pool table with small pockets, and cold beer and this would the place you want go to. If you're little hungry or want somethings go with your beer, order the carne asada tacos it pretty good. This place been here so long it look little ghetto from outside, but there's some very good pool player and some high school kids. I'm not sure about the weekends crowd here, but I heard it get pretty packs at night time and the weekends. We're here between 5:30pm -6:00pm, the sun's still up and 90 degree outside still no A/C! There's also a small section with tables where you can eat. I didn't try the food. Actually I never saw anyone eating there. She kept coming out every few minutes, as I was trying to take my young children out of my vehicle, to complain and argue with them. Went to this place 3 days on a row and played a total of 6 hours (2 hours each day). They are suppose to have the stamp card which gives one hour free every 10 hours. They old mexican lady was very rude and unprofessional. I asked for the stamp card on the second day but she said she does'nt have it right now and asked me to come monday. On the third day which is today, I remind her that we played yesterday and we want the 2 hours stamp for it. This lady pretend to forget and act as if we lied. Ghetto crappy place. A buddy of mine and I were playing pool and my friend was looking into the kitchen. Some kids had order some food and one of them got a burrito. My friend saw that the chef noticed a mold stain in the middle of the tortilla. Instead of throwing it away he asked the manager what he should do. She said just cut a hole out of it! From the outside it looks okay, but once you walk in, you're greeted by awkward stares from the players inside. They serve food here, yet I haven't tried it, thank god. I'm a bit hesitant to. I came here to play pool with a friend, and while my friend was paying at the cashier, I was standing next to him holding my water bottle. I played pool here twice and both experiences have proven to be a disappointment. The manager accused me of playing music through the stereo speakers via iPhone. A ridiculous accusation that I paid little attention to, but seriously? Wherever that music was coming from, it was better than having to pay $1 for the jukebox. My friends and I only stayed an hour when we decided to leave. 6 of us were present but we made it clear that only 4 of us played- the other two did NOT even touch a cue stick. Nonetheless, the workers charged us for 5 people ($16 compared to $12). Not a huge difference however it was extremely annoying especially since another one of us could have joined in on the game. We explained to the manager but stated that the bill was already in the computer and could not be edited (which is total BS). If you are looking to play pool, I do not suggest Cue Ball. The price for a table for 2 people: 10 dollars for one hour, pricey if you ask me. The atmosphere is nothing to rave about, it is what you make it honestly. But this place does have some nice table, plenty of them too. The sticks for the most part seemed to be in good shape and the balls didn't have any noticeable flaws. The beer is fairly priced, depending on what you buy, I believe that bud light is 11 dollars and fat tire is around 15. I have never tried the food and I have only been there once, I cant say that i was disappointed, but I was definitely not pleased. One hours goes by so fast and 10 dollars just seems like too much...the upside being that you probably wont get into a bar fight over a table.
