It's been a while since my wife and I have been to a steakhouse. But tonight we celebrated our 42nd wedding anniversary at The Cutlery. I am so glad we decided to go here. The moment you walk in the staff greets you like you are part of the family. Their smiles are warm and bright. Even the uncle that's in the parking lot goes out of his way to make sure your cars are well looked after so you don't have to worry. What can I see? The food experience was 10 out of 10 for us. We started off with the smoked grilled octopus. It was so tender. You could cut it with a fork. It had a very nice smoky flavor with a bit of char and a little bit of crunch. It was a perfect bite. Impaired with the chili pepper water took it over the top. We also ordered the fried brussels sprouts with the drizzle of honey, the broccolini and the truffle mashed potatoes. All of these dishes were seasoned too perfection. Even the truffle mash just a subtle subtle flavor of the delicate mushroom, not overpowering at all. Everything was so well balanced. When our entries arrived, which was the Nakamura prime rib and the pork chop both were really good! The only word I can come up with to describe this meal is "Yikes" I came here with a group of 6 friends for dinner. I was excited about the prime rib so I preordered. I ordered the charred Caesar salad and duck fat fries. The charred salad was odd, I think I was expecting a light smoke but I guess they were true to the title because it was charred. My prime rib was the standard medium rare but it took some cutting because there was so much connective tissue that had not melted, the fat hadn't melted either. It was just bad. I asked the server about the prime rib and she said it's supposed to have a lot of fat because of the cut. Absolutely true, but it's supposed to melt not be huge chunks. It also needed the horseradish, it had no flavor otherwise. The server was nice and took half off the prime rib. The fries tasted like a standard fry I've had before, nothing special. I tried the lobster pasta my friend had and it was delicious, everyone who ordered pasta at the table was satisfied which is great but this is a steak restaurant. The server was really nice. I wouldn't come back even if someone else was paying. But my dog appreciated the prime rib I brought home, so I guess that's a win? read more

The Cutlery is a very quaint, comfortable place to have a good steak dinner. We had three different meat dishes; ribeye steak, paniolo style prime rib, and prime rib. All were delicious! Very tasty, well seasoned and tender. We also had a bunch of sides; bone marrow, escargots, tako, fries, brussel sprouts, corn, and broccolini. All the dishes were all good and complemented the steaks very well. The service here is excellent; very friendly and attentive. This is also, without question, the most dog friendly place I have ever been to! They even serve your dog a steak platter, nice little pieces of meat grilled to perfection. Our dog loved it! Overall, this was a really nice dinner. It is however, a little pricey. Also, getting in touch with them is difficult if you need to make changes. First time eating here and I would definitely come back for the food. They are know for their prime rib but I chose to try their ribeye. It does have a more char kind of flavor but I enjoyed it. It was also cooked just right! Sides were good too! Brussels sprouts were super crispy and delicious! Reservation was at 5 pm which is when they open for dinner and we were seated inside. There's also outdoor seating if that's your preference. There's also parking but it's a small parking lot. It can get cold inside so bring a jacket if you get cold easily like me. I did not use the restroom so I can't speak on that. Staff were very friendly and they were very attentive and our cups were always filled. Upscale steakhouse prices with a surprisingly upscale diner level experience. Cozy intimate dining room. We really wanted to like The Cutlery, but the evening ended up being quite underwhelming. Service: Once we were seated, service was excellent. Our server Brandy was friendly, attentive, and did a great job taking care of us. Unfortunately, the experience started off awkwardly. The four of us arrived about five minutes before our reservation and stood in front of an empty hostess podium with no one to greet us. Several staff members walked by without acknowledging us. After going to the bar to get a glass of wine we waited for about more eight minutes before it dawned on me that maybe there wasn't a hostess on duty so I flagged down a server who surprisingly was able to check us in with his phone and seated us. Kind of weird and not the most welcoming first impression. Food: This is where things really fell short. The Hokkaido scallops were completely drowned in an olive oil-ginger sauce that overwhelmed the delicate sweetness of the scallops. Similarly,!the wagyu bone marrow suffered the same fate. The heavy-handed use of Hawaiian chili chimichurri masked the richness of the marrow instead of complementing it. The sauce itself was good but geez go easy on it. The side of bread that accompanied the dish was hard and dry. I mean like when crumbs turn to dust when you bite into it type of dry. The charred romaine Caesar salad had a strange gas/fumey smell that made it hard to enjoy. The biggest disappointment was the porterhouse for two, which should have been the star of the evening . Surprisingly, it was under-seasoned and lacked the quality and tenderness you expect from a steakhouse of this caliber. My fiance and I decided to celebrate our anniversary at The Cutlery since we heard good things about this place. WARNING: Be prepared to wait for your food. Our server was really nice and let us know about the wait time, but wow it's no joke. The entree can literally take over an hour to an hour and a half during peak hours. They are known for their prime rib and I guess I misunderstood when I made the reservation on OpenTable, I thought one prime rib is automatically reserved and if you wanted more, needed to put in for more. Oops. The foods that we ordered were escargot, lobster pasta, ribeye. brussel sprouts and duck fat fries. Our favorite was the duck fat fries. It was sooo crispy and had really good flavor. Second best would be the escargot except they toasted the bread too long where it hurts your roof of the mouth. We really wanted to like this place, but we just thought it was okay. Dined out with my industry friends celebrating a birthday of the oldest friend in our group! We had to make the reservation in advance for a party of 9 and reserved three prime ribs ahead of time for our party. We were also asked for a pre-order the day of our reservation because of our large party. The staff was friendly and very accommodating, our party was a little crazy and we were all dressed up as old ladies but the staff was super kind. Our favorite thing about cutlery has to be the food! We loved all the appetizers, but our favorite has to be the bone marrow which had a great crust and perfectly toasted bread and pickled onions! Another great one was the tako!!!! Always a great choice! It was perfect in flavor and texture. Prime rib and steak was cut pupu to share which was on request and very considerate of staff. We loved the prime rib! It was thick cut perfectly cooked and seasoned! Steak was also cooked perfectly but didn't stand out as much as the prime rib. We also loved the lamb rack! We got a round of drinks but nothing that stood out to us. We also thought the service was great and adequate for what they could offer for a large party. We arrived for our 5:45 pm reservations. With a packed house the wait for the food was tortuously long. The beverages came out piece meal and Bud's Mac n cheese was first to arrive at the table. 80% of the food once they finally arrived were enjoyed: French fries, brussel sprouts, lamb, 3 steaks & Mac n cheese. All steaks and lamb were ordered medium but Sweetie's rib eye was charred on the outside and brown on the inside. I chose this restaurant for the marrow but the one out of 2 pieces of bone I tried didn't have enough marrow to fill the tiny spoon. It was loaded with chimichurri. The toasted bread rounds were buttery and garlicy hard like Melba toast but I liked it. Had to ask for my fingerling potatoes and it arrived when the rest of our party had finished. We flagged a server for boxes for take out, I walked up to the front to ask for a bag, and the check and I got up to deliver the payment. Although it was a Tuesday nite, 2 of us wanted the prime rib but it's only available on weekends. The parking attendant should be commended for his service, helped our 3 cars get a parking space, walked me to the entrance with his umbrella and was at the mercy of the cold night air and drizzles. They really should use two parking spaces to build a shelter for him. If not for him, I'd remove a star. If your party consists of only adults and 2-1/2 hours is okay for you to dine, if the place wasn't slammed to occupancy it may have been a better experience. If I could rate this place 10 stars, I absolutely would. Do yourself a favor and check this place out, if you haven't already done so. We've been here a handful of times and have recommended them to our friends and family both locally and out of town. All of the times that we've been here, we had reservations and have been at slower service times. The servers are knowledgeable about the menu and are kind enough to go through the items of you do have questions. Each time we've went, we've taken their recommendations and haven't been disappointed, yet. It may just be sides, but I love the potatoes and the Brussels sprouts. The honey in the Brussels is what knocks it out of the park. While it is a little dim inside of the restaurant, the menus light up. I don't recommend bringing a stroller. Crazy good food! No hesitation, no debate, I'd come back immediately. Dinner at The Cutlery in Kaimukī was phenomenal across the board. We reserved the prime rib ahead of time (highly recommend) and loved that they're transparent about prep times. They tell you up front if something takes longer so you can decide in the moment. Thoughtful and appreciated. Not a single miss on the food. There were 3 of us and we decided to select our own entrees and share them with each other. We had: Charred romaine Caesar salad Washugyu bone marrow (ridiculous) 16 oz reserved Nakamura cut prime rib (worth every dollar) Short rib pasta Kurobuta pork chop Crispy Brussels sprouts Duck fat fries Fire roasted corn Shishito peppers Everything was perfect, rich without being heavy, and clearly made with intention. We all kept saying how good everything tasted and we were happy we decided to share everything we had. Cocktails were equally on point, guava margarita, yuzu shiso sidecar, and Empress lychee martini were all balanced, flavorful, and dangerous in the best way. Service was friendly and pleasant, though we weren't checked on as often as expected especially for indoor seating. That said, the food absolutely carried the night. Seating options include standard indoor tables, indoor high-tops, and outdoor seating. Accessibility & logistics heads-up:Waialae entrance has a few stairs. The 9th Ave entrance requires walking past the outdoor seating and can feel tight where the walkway bends if chairs are pulled out. There's also a small lip at the doorway into the standard dining area (I think it was a sliding door threshold). Not just dog friendly - DOG WELCOMING. As new puppy parents, I was getting antsy to dine out but we couldn't leave the puppy alone. I found this spot and dropped in randomly. Not only did they offer a beat-up chair that he could sit directly on, they gave him ICE water and his own chopped-up plate of steak! It looked so good my husband wanted to sneak a bite, and it was enough for a large dog, so my puppy made a 'doggy bag' and ate it over a week! We knew this was the spot to have his 1st birthday party! Booked a table, and again he got his doggy chair, water, and steak! The family had a great selection of Steaks and Pastas (I loved the Oxtail pasta) and an extensive scotch list. Parking was easy. Six of us ate at this neighborhood steakhouse located in Kaimuki. We started off w/ oysters and escargot. The oysters were shucked beautifully, and they tasted uber fresh fr WA. Likewise, the escargot had lots of garlic & parmesan to put on your toast. I'm glad we weren't served additional bread. For my main, I chose a NY steak. Others in the group ordered the signature prime rib (reserve in advance), ribeye and short rib pasta. No one complained, and none of us went home hungry. The steaks were finished w/ butter the way I like it. Mine was cooked perfect medium rare. Our sides consisted of duck fat fries, mushrooms and broccolini (not all pictured). The star of the sides was the fries. They came out piping hot, and went well with ketchup. Lastly, we shared two desserts. Both were very good. The mud pie rivaled Duke's, and the creme brûlée had a nice crust on top. Alex took great care of us and showed a lot of Aloha. There is a 20% tip for parties of 5 or more. Alex and his side kick earned every penny. Regarding the ambiance, its laid back. We sat outside which was fine for us. The six of us wanted plenty of room. There is a bar to your left as you walk in. To the right is a small dining area. The outside dining area has about 5 tables. Better to uber/lyft here bc parking is difficult. I finally had a chance to dine at Cutlery and it was really good! Staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. Food did take a while to come out, but it does come out PIPING HOT. Personally I recommend the kiawe smoked meat (it tastes like burnt ends!), escargot, charred Cesar salad, and the Rib Eye! As for the drink try the Yuzu Shiso Sidecar (I think that's what it's called). SUPER GOOD. The Kiawe smoked meat was so good. It's tossed in a sweet sauce and is super tender. I love the onions with it as it helps cut the fat. If you're looking for something sweet and savory, this is perfect! If the Escargot is available I HIGHLY recommend you get it if you can. It comes with six little snails and bread. It's cooked super nicely, soft and a little chewy. The cheese on top was the cherry. It was perfect. It wasn't overly salted too! As for the charred salad it was a very interesting taste. I didn't know you can char lettuce, which sounds so silly, but it's actually really good. It gave the salad a nice smokiness and it just made it more addicting. Lastly, the ribeye was really good! Very tender and cooked to perfection!! Overall, I wouldn't mind coming back. We made a reservation online for two and were seated right away. Our table was outside, but the space is fully covered, so it still had a really nice atmosphere despite the rain. The only downside was the noise from traffic nearby. The food was good, but nothing particularly memorable. The steaks stood out--we ordered the ribeye and the New York, both cooked perfectly. The portions were huge, so I'd recommend sharing one. The Brussels sprouts were tasty, with a sweet roasted flavor that was different from the salty taste I expected. The lobster tails were a highlight (soft, sweet, and paired perfectly with butter). The clams were just as good. We also tried the squid starter, which my husband really enjoyed. I believe it had a smoked flavor. Overall, it was a solid experience, but not quite special enough to make me want to come back. Love the concept of this place. A barbershop during the day and a restaurant at night. It's such a unique idea and definitely worth supporting local spots like this. After seeing reviews of this restaurant, I was really looking forward to our dinner. We were seated right away and waters were brought to us. We took a few minutes to decide what to eat but I was disappointed that they were already out of prime rib. I guess you need to call ahead and reserve them. Our drinks and food took a long time to come out but our friends warned us about it. I didn't look at my watch, but I'd estimate that it took an hour + for everything to come out. The pulehu tako was tasty, but it was so small! It was way smaller than some of the pictures on here. The mushroom medley and brussel sprouts were good. The mashed potatoes were just ok for me. The bone marrow was good but we all said it needed more bread. Three people in my family ordered rib eye, my daughter for the oxtail ragu and I got the braised short rib rigatoni. My husband asked for salt for his steak but he others didn't add any to their steak. We ordered crème brûlée and mud pie for dessert. The crème brûlée was overly sweet and plain. The mud pie was good.. Overall, I'd say that it was a nice place to have dinner, but it was on the pricey side for the 5 of us. This review is mainly about service. We had our server last night I can't even remember his name because that's how little he came around. Started off great and took our order, but once we had our order in there was no check in, no refill, or asking if we wanted any drinks etc. however that's fine we were aware of the long wait time for food. I overheard him asking another table if they were celebrating anything and brought dessert, etc; great service for the other table. My partner's birthday was that night to which he checked our IDs but could have overlooked it if he just looked at the year, which is fine. But he asked us NOTHING before handing the check. Another person came to our table to say "last call was closed for hot foods for the kitchen but that did not include desserts" which is what she said. So I was waiting for him to ask us, but he didn't. And when he came with our check, he threw the check on our table and said nothing and walked away. I was so disappointed as 1. It was my partner's birthday and 2. I had been here before and had a nice time. This was disappointing to say the least and won't be coming back. All the steaks were 2/5 this time too. We had the garlic butter prawns, ribeye, and prime rib. Sides were really good and so were the drinks. Just overall a really bad experience especially because of the service. read more

Just a warning, you may want to order appetizers because the food takes an extremely long time to come out. A cool surprise was that the menus light up when opened. The house salad was surprisingly good. It was probably the best vinaigrette I've had. The prime rib had a smoky flavor but unfortunately was VERY fatty. The short rib pasta was very tender. It's not on website, but they have regular indoor tables. Nice background music while dining. Menu lights up when you open it so don't need to use your phone flashlight as lighting at the regular tables are dimmed. This was the worst experience we have had in so long! We really wanted to try this place, so we tried to come one night about 45 minutes before they closed understanding we might be turned away. We were turned away, so we came another night after making a reservation. We waited for over 20 minutes for a server to come to the table. My husband had to go inside to ask for water. We placed our order for everything with the waitress in one go. It took another 30 minutes to get the Caesar salad, which was good. Over an hour and a half later and we still hadn't received any food. We asked what was going on, and they said the chicken was taking a long time. We ordered two other dishes they could have brought out in the meantime if they were ready. Tables that were seated long after us got their steaks 20 minutes before we got anything. My husband got a bit fed up after over an hour and a half of waiting so he asked them to bring out the food that was ready, and then bring the chicken whenever it was ready. They asked if we wanted bread and we said yes. They then brought out just the chicken. The other dishes followed a few minutes later. We never got bread. I'm not sure what happened here, but this was the worst dining experience we have had! I will say the waiter and waitress were very very nice. I think this was more of a kitchen issue, but honestly I don't know what happened. It was really ridiculous, and we rarely get upset at restaurants. The spouse wanted a steak dinner. I was not about to spend ridiculous amounts at Hy's, Ruth's or Signature. The Cutlery was close to Waikiki and the prices were reasonable. ATMOSPHERE: It's a casual vibe with dark decor and mood lighting. A nice mix of music played overhead. The bar area is open-air but air conditioned, with a few bar seats and high tops. A traditional dining room is off to the side. Outdoor seating wrapped around a forth of the eatery, with shrubbery for privacy from the road. There is an actual barbershop on the backside of the restaurant which is run by the spouse of the owner, according to our server. RESERVATIONS: We reserved via OpenTable about two days prior. Only counter and outdoor types were available. Definitely recommended if you prefer to sit indoors. PARKING: A small, free lot shared with other businesses is right behind the restaurant on 9th Ave. It looks like it belongs to the neighboring apartments but it's not. Simply check in with the friendly attendant. MENU: Backlit menus made for easy viewing. Nice cocktail list. Seafood & meat apps, salads, grilled meats, pasta, kids menu & desserts. BEVERAGE: The Mojito Excellent version with an intense mint flavor. FOOD: Charred Romaine Caesar Salad Served warm, the salad had nice char to the leaves with a unique smokiness from the grill. Had a 630pm reservation and arrived about 15 minutes early. Seated in 2 minutes and it wasn't busy. Our seats were next to the main entrance into the sliding door to the left. It was a mild night- look like it was going to rain but it didn't or cold but when the wind blew- I felt that draft. The bathroom was in the hallway next to the Kitchen. The menu lit up when it was opened, a nice ambience. Music was on late 80s, early 90s slow jams so we were jamming to that. We tried out two appetizers- the pulehu tako and Bone marrow. The tako tasted amazing, had smoke, moist not dry, and the chilli peppa water was spicy and Ono. It was small so the pic is accurate. This is my first time trying bone marrow so I didn't know what to expect. It was loaded with the chimichuri sauce which was ok but not something I'd order again. The bread was well toasted, kind of hard to bite into. The plate was loaded with pickled onion. I had the rib eye, medium well. When it came out I didn't think it was my order because it looked burnt. Some parts were but was medium well inside. I believe it was finished on the grill. Nothing outstanding about the rib eye. Wasn't as soft or melty as other ribeyes I had. Not pictured is the fingerling potatoes. Tasted like soft fries. Not sure what duck fat oil tastes like but if it was; tastes like the Waianae McDonalds fries without much salt. My roommate had the Braised Short Rib Rigatoni which he enjoyed. Short ribs were nice and tender, the sauce was ok. For me, perhaps a little more salt. Anyways, Nalani was our server- very pleasant, gave us some recommendations (5 stars for her). The deserts sounded killa but we were full, maybe next time. Our waters stayed topped off and roommate's beer was flowing. Uncle in the parking lot is the true VIP. We parked far and he had us park right up front. We did have a lot of leftovers, I ate it all the next day with some Kauai Hawaiian Salt. So this place has some awesome reviews and well the expectations were high. It's located at the corner of Waialae and 9th Ave. Not a large place but nice to say the least. Our reservation was for 6:15 and we were sat right away, we shortly afterwards ordered drinks and pupus. I'd say about 20 minutes later we ordered our entrees. For the pupus we got the tako, which for me was the best thing I had here, the escargot which I thought the baked cheese top overpowered the dish. We also had the bone marrow, this was another dish that the toppings overpowered the dish. Basically 1 out of 3 for me. The entrees we did family style with the oxtail ragu, prime rib and the ribeye steak. I don't think I'm a tough critic but if you known for prime rib I'm going to have a high expectation. The cut of meat was good tender and juicy but, the entire dish lacked flavor. I had to use salt just for it to have flavor. This is the same as the rib eye steak, great cut of meat but totally lacked flavor. As for the oxtail ragu the amount of oxtail was good but the sauce for the pasta was in my opinion sweet. Oh I failed to mention our food didn't arrive till about 8:15! The waiter we had was nice to begin with but as my irritation of seeing people who came after us get their food and some actually leave before we got our food. When asked how was my meal I said it was ok but the wait sucked. He quickly copped and attitude and to be honest that pissed me off. I mean this place ain't cheap so yeah my expectations were higher. This place is still just as good--if not better--six months later! We decided to return here on a whim and were happy to find that the quality and experience were still top-notch. We called ahead to see if we could snag a table, and although they were able to accommodate us for a same-day reservation, one thing to note is that you cannot reserve a prime rib if you're booking on the same day. Good to know for next time--we'll definitely plan ahead if we're craving that specific dish! Despite that, everything else was fantastic. The food came out quickly, and it was just as flavorful and impressive as we remembered. It's always a great sign when a restaurant can stay consistent over time, and they absolutely delivered. Parking around 6 PM on a Sunday was a bit tricky. The lot was pretty full, but we got lucky and snagged the last available stall. The lot attendant was incredibly friendly and helpful, which made the minor parking stress a lot easier to deal with. Inside, we were seated in the enclosed dining area toward the back of the restaurant. It was quiet, well-lit, and gave us a nice sense of privacy--perfect for a relaxed dinner without the usual hustle and bustle of a busy restaurant. All in all, this place continues to impress. Heard a lot online and on social media so I chose the Cutlery to celebrate my birthday. We read all the reviews (good and bad) and we were prepared to give it a fair shake. Bottom-line is we had a nice dinner with leftovers for tomorrow. Service from Brandi was spot on. She was attentive to what we wanted (ie...asked for the ribeye to not be finished with butter and subbed in fettuccine for the rigatoni) and our food came out as requested. My gf stated the pasta was full of super soft short rib and it had a ton of flavor. My ribeye was perfectly cooked (medium) and seasoned. I didn't take a pic of the truffle mashed potatoes as there have been a ton of pics on Yelp of it, but we did appreciate the truffle flavor to be subtle and not over powering. Truffle can be a huge acquired taste and I appreciate that the chef knew the right amount to use. The broccolini could have used a little finishing salt, but still a good addition to our meal. My gf informed the staff we were celebrating my birthday and they were nice to comp us a double scoop of Kona Coffee ice cream. Very refreshing to an otherwise very filling meal. read more

Friend treated me to this place! I wanted to try this place for a while but never got the chance. Nice location in heart of Kaimuki and there was a bunch of parking in the side lot. Nice looking from the outside and inside it's a calm steakhouse vibe. Lighting is on the darker side as you would expect of a steakhouse but the cool thing was the lighted menus! No need to take out the reading glasses lol Food wise we had clams, bone marrow, Cesar salad, fries, truffle mash potato, mushroom medley and a ribeye. Clams were pretty good, nice and clean with no sand detected. Bread that came with it was well toasted and had trouble soaking up the tasty juices. We did get more bread which was a lot better in the soak up the juice category. Bone marrow had a nice smokey flavor but the toppings on it was a little overpowering and took away from the marrow. I like garlic and stuff so it was tasty, I just would like to taste the marrow a little more. Mushroom were good, nice and simple. Tasty to let the mushroom flavor come out and not overcooked where they are wilted. Cesar salad was a little disappointing. Salad had a dollop of dressing on top and with the lighting you don't realize it's not a topping on the salad. Make sure you toss it up before you eat it! Dressing wise, flavor was a little mild. Fries were the star! How can you go wrong with duck fat fries! Nice crust and not overcooked. Truffle mashed potatoes were never a fan of mine but I tried some. The texture was pretty good and the truffle was not overpowering. If I liked truffles I would probably rate it good but I don't like the earthy flavor of truffles. If you're a truffle fan go for it! My ribeye was nicely cooked with a good crust and temp may have been a tad bit over a med rare. It's a steakhouse so of course I'll be more critical of the temp. Steak is served on a plate with clarified butter not sizzling but just in a puddle of butter. I was not a fan of it because it made the meat greasy to me. Contrary to Ruth Chris where the butter is searing into the meat when you get it. I rather the steak seared and basted in butter rather than sitting in it. My steak was also a little under seasoned and there was no table side salt and pepper. Our server was really nice and attentive throughout service. The pupus were delicious especially the duck fries! However, the food took over 40 mins after we ordered. The server was super nice and explained some issues in the kitchen but it's understandable so no big deal. When the food came out, my pork chops were a little under cooked and the steak not the way we ordered them; but, I would try again. This place opens up at 5pm so we got there a little early and good thing too. Parking is free but that lot is pretty small so get there a little bit before 5 if you can to score some parking-they'll still seat you but warn you they won't start serving until 5pm (no problem). It's really a nice ambiance-if you're sitting inside it's a nice relaxed vibe with dark lighting and some chill 70s-90s music playing quietly in the background. As far as service goes they were very friendly, very attentive to keep your glass full, and our server herself was just AWESOME. Checked on us from time to time, had great recommendations, was just really sweet. Loved it The food was definitely good to try. We're the kine couple who likes to order a lot to sample plenty to get the whole experience lol and just take home the rest for leftovers during the week. I saw a post on TikTok that the chili pepper water here is good and DAMN is it. My husband had to ask if they can give more or if they sell (They do btw). Notable mentions are the oysters (with that chili pepper water), the prawns and the nakamura prime rib. If you make a reservation they encourage you to reserve the prime rib in case you no like miss out and let me tell you the pulehu style prime rib was GOOD! HUGE portions, quite a bit of fat and sauce, not gonna lie. Coulda used a little more salt. The oxtail ragu was good too! Thick on the sauce so I felt like maybe the oxtail got lost in that and the pasta but the meat was tender so I was satisfied. I wish I could vouch more for that washugyu bone marrow though. I mean the flavors come through when you're eating it with the bread sure but there was more chimichurri sauce than freaking marrow, I'm sad to say and it was oily so definitely on the rich side. Came here for an anniversary dinner and it didn't disappoint. They have a free parking lot on 9th Avenue, which is super convenient. The interior is sleek and modern with a black design, and the menus even light up when you open them, which was a fun little surprise. We ordered the duck fat fries, truffle mashed potatoes, Brussels sprouts, Nakamura cut prime rib, and ribeye. The food took about an hour to come out, but everything was worth the wait. The standouts were definitely the fries, Brussels sprouts, and prime rib. The fries were perfectly crispy with a nice coating that gave them an extra crunch. The Brussels sprouts were baked and charred just right with a touch of sweetness that balanced the flavor nicely. The prime rib was incredibly tender, and I'm glad we came on a Saturday to be able to try it. Service was fantastic. The staff kept our table clean and our waters filled throughout the meal. I was very disappointed with my recent experience at Cutlery Restaurant. Unfortunately, both the food and service have declined significantly from what I remember. Service Issues The person who took our order was excellent and very helpful, even though she was not our server and was just assisting out. However, the overall service was lacking from the start. We were not checked on nearly enough throughout our meal, making it difficult to ask for anything we needed. When we requested garlic aioli, a sauce was brought to our table without any explanation of what it was. It wasn't until much later that we were informed they didn't have garlic aioli and had provided hollandaise sauce instead. We also request silverware but were forgotten about and came at a much later time. Better communication would have been appreciated. Food Quality The food was equally disappointing. I ordered my steak medium rare, but it arrived overcooked. Several items tasted overly charred and burnt, which overwhelmed the flavor of the food. Overall, the quality was nowhere near what it used to be. Overall Summary Dining out is a significant expense these days, and I expected a much better experience. I hope management takes the time to address both the service issues and the declining food quality because this visit did not meet expectations. I will not be back ever again. read more

TL;DR: I came here with my boyfriend and his family for their last dinner, and I would say that the food satisfied, but our overall experience was pretty disappointing. I'm hoping that if I dine back in The Cutlery again, I'll hopefully have better service and better food preparation to be able to give my review a bump! **FOOD** APPETIZERS: We had the Fire Roasted Washugyu Bone Marrow, Charred Romaine Salad, and Crispy Brussel Sprouts, and those definitely did not disappoint (especially the Bone Marrow)! Everything was so tasteful and made it the perfect way to start our dinner off. If you are a fan of bone marrow, or even if you've never tried it before, definitely do so here! It won't disappoint. FOOD: My boyfriend's sister and brother in law ate the New York Striploin and Oxtail Ragu. I don't 100% remember feedback about the New York Striploin, but do remember that the Oxtail Ragu was an absolute HIT for his sister, and she was adamant about everyone tasting--both dishes were definitely big enough to be shared by two people! My boyfriend and I shared the Nakamura Cut Prime Rib. I'm never really a steak kind of girl, but wanted to try it considering the nature of the restaurant. My boyfriend, who is a steak fanatic, definitely was not the happiest with the preparation or the cut, and we actually ended up just not even eating half of the meal. Finally, my boyfriend's parents shared the New Zealand Rack of Lamb. Though my meal wasn't particularly to my liking/tastebuds, I did enjoy a bite of the lamb. It fell apart so nicely and was extremely juicy and flavorful! DRINKS: I did not have an alocholic beverage, but if you're looking for something on the sweeter and non-alcoholic side, definitely try the Lilikoi Mojito! **AMBIANCE AND SERVICE** AMBIANCE: The restaurant itself was pretty quiet, so if you're looking for a quieter date night/setting, this is the place to be. I would say that in terms of space though, it's pretty tight, both in the restaurant and for parking! SERVICE: For the stars knocked down, I would say it was majority due to the service. We brought my boyfriend's family here, thinking that it would be a wonderful way to end their Hawaii trip, but unfortunately the service we received was extremely poor. Our waitress was definitely in three places at once and didn't really pay much attention or wait us well, and due to the crowded space, we ended up sitting at a bar AND were receiving looks from waitresses going back and forth as they bumped into the back of our chairs (we literally couldn't scoot in any further). In addition to this, there was also one time that one of the waitresses accidentally smacked my boyfriend's back with one of the plates as she was rushing by; my boyfriend apologized, but the response received from the waitress was a roll of the eyes and no words to even say it's okay or sorry. We went there on Valentine's Day, and the food was spectacular. They were willing to accommodate us last minute and even sat us early. Despite being right on Waialae Avenue, the outside seating wasn't noisy. All the staff were helpful, knowledgeable and courteous. We had the porterhouse for two but it could easily feed 3 people, and the bone marrow appetizer was simply amazing. The kids meal was adult-sized and my son was happy to report that the smoked meat was delicious. The duck fat fries were so decadent and perfectly crispy, it was an instant hit at the table. The mashed potatoes were creamy and went with everything, including the duck fat fries lol; DOUBLE STARCH POWER! We shared had the crème brûlée for dessert and it was so smooth, probably the best crème brûlée I've had in some time! Would definitely recommend, and am excited to return soon! read more
