My friend and I ordered two hot coffees at 2 pm. The cost was over $6.00. The coffees were so lukewarm, we could stick our finger in the cup and not get burned. We went back to return the coffee and get what we paid for. That didn't happen. Instead, we were told by the woman that worked there that, "We brew our coffee at 9 AM. It's not possible for a small business to brew coffee after that because it's not profitable - unless we're really busy." Returning home from Tahoe early and in need of coffee. Don't let this be a coffee drive through stop you ... great friendly service and excellent coffee. My husband likes strong robust coffee. When he asked the barista if the coffee was strong, she asked in flavor or caffeine (smart!). Got a dark roast drip that was perfect. I had the vanilla latte which hit the spot. also ordered the ham and cheese croissant and breakfast bagel which were both tasty. Grass Valley to get coffee right off the freeway is a zoo. Wait a few more exits and in Newcastle, stop at the Daily Grind instead. Right off the freeway, fast and convenient and most importantly, great coffee and service! read more

Here I come with a review for The Daily Grind in Newcastle. Had a very busy work schedule today meeting with customers all over Sacramento and my last stop was in Newcastle around 5pm. Since we had a pretty hot day in Sacramento I wanted to cool down a little and stopped by this small coffee drive thru shop. It is located right off the freeway in Newcastle (9430 Indian Hill Rd. & 80) As I was pulling in the drive-thru their special menu popped right up. After looking it through I decided to go with the "Blended Monkey Mocha" mocha with banana and caramel flavors. As I ordered the coffee the young lady at the window was very prompt and kind and since I was still debating what to get she gave me a few more seconds to decide. So I ordered the medium Monkey Mocha. Now here's my take on the "MM" This is packed with flavors and the banana, caramel, chocolate and coffee all jump at you as you take each and every sip. All the flavors are overpowering each other. I never had a blended coffee this tasty. I've been coming to this place for over 15 years, and every time has been absolutely amazing. This is my third time coming here since the original owners gave the place up, and I'm so dissatisfied with the current service. Each recent visit, there have been several items not available due to the shop being out of stock. Additionally, the staff is just not as friendly anymore. I waited over 10 minutes for a drink because one service window was closed and the attending cashier decided to chat with the current patron who appeared to be her friend. I'll never come here again. Very disappointed and sad how this place has shaped up. I can't believe I'm saying this but you'd be better off getting your coffee from Starbucks or another chain, at least they're consistent. read more

This drive thru coffee spot is a great hidden gem off I-80 and is perfect for a quick stop when you're stuck in traffic. (Don't let the map pin fool you it's literally right off the freeway behind the gas station and next to the driving range.) The girls working here are super friendly and made the drinks quickly for us. I recommend their iced chai (I got mine with a shot of espresso), not too sweet and the portion size is pretty generous! This will definitely be our go-to spot for a coffee break on our next drive through Newcastle! read more

The Daily Grind is a a cute pull-up coffee joint. I dropped by early on a Friday morning on a road trip along 80 (at around 7am). There was no wait, and a cup of coffee was $1.80.
