Very interesting experience. Maybe this place is cool on a Saturday night, but on a Tuesday night it was very awkward. The decor looks like a low budget DIY prom set up. Palm trees AND pine trees? Paint chipping on the walls, just lots of random decor. And the bathrooms have very shoddy tiling jobs and weren't super clean. Our server was really nice, but we only saw him twice (when he took our order and when he brought our food). Food was ok. The fries with ranch dip were the best part. My husband gives the Americana burger an 8/10, I give the prime rib sandwich a 6/10 and the kids butter pasta 2/10. read more

Came in Saturday night with a few friends and we sat at the bar. The space is gorgeous and better than I expected. I started with an espresso martini which took 40 minutes to actually get and was made by "Mom". Espresso martinis usually come with 3 beans, but it did not have any. One friend ordered a Kona Big Wave beer that they had on tap. Our other friend had a blue colored mixed drink, I forget what it was called. I checked the website and their menu online was concerning for several reasons. Not only did they not have listings for cocktails, but I ended up looking up other menu items and noticed that several things "were out of stock". Under featured items, they had "catering deposit" listed for $250. My question is why was that listed under featured items, where other food items are listed? A large party was having an event on one side of the space. At one point a line for the bar started to form and there were at least 20 people waiting in line to place their drink orders. The owner was trying his hardest to keep up, but he was bartending pretty much by himself. They did have a comedy show listed to start at 9pm which we did not stay for. They do offer entertainment most nights of the week. My girlfriend decided to order the Wagyu kids sliders with fries. No one ever asked if we would like to order food. She ended up flagging down someone behind the bar and after placing her order it took at least 45 minutes to get what she ordered. She said it lacked seasoning, but the fries were good. My other friend and I had already eaten prior to arriving so I have nothing to add there. We each ordered another drink which was made by the owner and it wasn't missing any details. They have a lot to offer and I can see that they're tying to appeal to many pallets My advice would be update your online menu and hire another bartender, especially on nights of events and definitely on weekends. I can appreciate a business trying to cut costs by doing it themselves and hiring family, but you are losing repeat customers by not providing better service. read more

My wife and I love this place. We come for both lunch and dinner and can sit and talk without all the NOISE. Yes, other places near here offer faster service, but when we have to practically yell to converse and have to keep repeating ourselves, that's not an enjoyable time out. At Dalton Royal we can actually enjoy a nice conversation. Top recommendation: Fish & chips. It's among the best in the valley. I understand it's their most popular dish, and we can see why. The Brussels sprouts are also unique and tasty. For dessert I'll recommend the Royal Chocolate Cake as well as the Key Lime Pie. I should also point out that Dalton Royal hasn't raised its menu prices like so many other restaurants have. If you've not tried this place yet, set aside the time and check it out. I agree with other reviews here in terms of ambiance and the outside versus inside. It was definitely a cool event space, and I could see having big events there. But as a restaurant it felt sort of random. The food was fine - it didn't really stick out either way. We had both the crab and spinach artichoke dips and both were good. I had the Americana burger and had to remove some of the candied bacon. It was a bit overwhelming for me. The service was also fine. They seemed like a pretty quiet bunch to me, and we were definitely having a great time playing trivia. I would have appreciated a bit more engagement and maybe some recommendations, but it was a fine experience. Overall it's a maybe go back for me. Well, we're still sitting in the restaurant as I write this. Saturday night, made a reservation, showed up on time. Hostess didn't know where they keep menus, waited over 30 minutes after being seated before we even saw a server. Had to eventually go order drinks at the bar then asked the people next to us if they'd share a menu. The drinks were terrible and extremely over priced. Not hard to make an Old Fashion and Cadillac Margarita. It's now after 8:15 pm and we're still waiting for food. It's dueling piano night and we were excited to see a show with dinner. Yet, it's just a couple of mediocre piano players who just take requests. Far from a true dueling piano show. Now there is a manager arguing with another guest. Looks like it might go to blows. This was the 4th time I've been to the Dalton. The first two times I have to say weren't great but after seeing an article in the Statesman about new items on the menu I decided to give them another shot. I went with a group of friends and I heard feedback similar to mine. - for the 2nd time in a row I totally enjoyed my food selections. The wine I had was nice and unexpected as it was from winery more towards southern Cali. I totally surprised myself in ordering the poke. I never order poke . Never. But this eve I thought I'd try something different and I wasn't disappointed. It was fresh tasting and the presentation was attractive. I'd actually order it again. I also ordered the the salmon entree and this time was just as good as last. There was a generous portion of salmon served on a bed of mixed veggies and risotto. It was seasoned well and I was advised next time to get extra seasoned butter on it. From another couple I heard the scampi was good also. I think Dalton has stepped up their game in the kitchen. Service this time wasn't bad. Much improved from first two visits. I hope folks would be open to going back. I'd also like to give The Dalton a shout out for allowing a couple of fund raisers to be held there in support of a local business that experienced fire and has been shut down for now. I came into this business recently and was talking to the owner while drinking a cocktail he made for me at the bar- during this time I was talking to my friend about a p e do file who was recently fired from my job and the owner, who was bartending at the time, chimed in to say he would never fire someone for being a p file. I can't get behind The Dalton Royal. Something about the atmosphere is off. Renaissance vibe from the logo but beach themed inside. I didn't have much of an appetite based on the looks of the place. The kitchen lighting was super bright. Interesting decor. Toilet was non stop flushing, other toilet was dirty and they were out of soap. So after driving past this place for a while, and seeing their posts on social media, we thought we would give it a try. I made a reservation, but when when we got there Friday night it was pretty dead. First impressions. You come into this strip mall restaurant that has a pretty large presence from the street. Dalton Royal in bold letters on the exterior. No problems parking. When you come through the doors, you are greeted with plastic palm trees, LCD's, a one-man-band playing on this stage. Now this would be fine, but as people were eating and chatting he would push them to sing along, and went from mellow acoustic songs to stuff that something that was kind of annoying. This is also a warehouse dining experience. Exposed ceiling and beams, AC, etc. big windows (super bright inside) looking at the parking lot, and cement floor with wood grain tables. Big LCD screens with Fiji ocean scenes as backdrop to the stage. Campy? Yes! They have pool tables in the back and some cornhole, pinball machines. A bit strange. The menu has several things on it, and most all of them are very pricey. I wasn't feeling it being there, so I went for the cheapest thing. Chicken scaloppini in white wine sauce $27, but it came dark brown. Wife had the Salmon with risotto which was good, although way too much butter. She ordered "a craft" cocktail, but it was horrible and she sent it back. I had a lemon martini, which was ok. They said they had NO RED WINE?? What the heck? Go to Albertsons for God's sake. OK. The whole staff seems very green. Nice, but it's clear their experience is limited and low service places like maybe Denny's. We really were ready to leave. $100+ for two of us? It place simply wasn't our jam at all. After, we drove over to Land & Ocean across the road on Eagle for a nice dessert and a Caymus Cabernet. That was great. "We're Here To Give You A Dining Experience" Well, it's safe to say that the Dalton Royal wasn't joking about that statement. However, the experience was more similar to a real life local episode of 'Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares' minus Gordon Ramsey, and the " entertainment" being a slow motion train wreck of chaos unfolding around in every area of the 6,500 sq foot building. At first arrival, my boyfriend and I were excited about the "dining experience." Although, unsure of what to expect due to the lack of menu or information on the website, we felt that the Dalton Royal soft opening could be a "fun experience" for a date night. Live music was playing when we arrived (8 pm) but finished up around 8:15 pm. We started off with ordering a cocktail. Our server let us know that about 20% of the menu was not available. In my opinion, the menu did not reflect a "tropical vibe" but with the prices, we were expecting a nice dining experience. While waiting for our drinks, we noticed a couple who seemed pretty pissed talking to the host and exiting the building. First off, never in my life have I experienced such craziness at a restaurant. It almost seemed like no system was in place, period, for the waiters/waitresses regarding tables or staff. It appeared that there was no management occurring on the floor. We had multiple servers approach our table and bring us food and drinks that weren't ours. This happened at least 4 times. The cocktails (which were $12) were served in tiny glasses. When our server appeared again we ordered an appetizer and 2 entrees. (Fried cheese curds as an appetizer, the 8 oz flat iron steak with mashed potatoes, and the pear salad.) After about 45 minutes of waiting, we received the steak from another server. Our actual server reappeared about 3 minutes after this and was confused, said the steak wasn't ours, and proceeded to take the steak away. About 10 minutes later I received my salad, and then we received our appetizer. The cheese curds were cold, and frankly comparably to dive bar food. The salad was a salad. At this point we realized the sheet show that was ensuing and we just wanted to leave. My boyfriend received his meal about 10 minutes later and we asked for the check immediately as we weren't sure when our server would appear again. The steak was actually good, however the amount of mashed potatoes was literally comparable to an ice scream scoop- 2 bites. We then overheard the table next to us having an issue with billing, like they were overcharged and had items added that they didn't order. At this point, my boyfriend was freaked out as we hadn't even received our check yet but he gave the server his card. Clearly this place was a disaster in every regard. The server went missing again for about another 10 minutes. It appeared they were having issues with closing out peoples checks as well. My boyfriend went to chase down the sever and make sure he would give us the receipt first before running the card. The server came back around with the receipt finally and the total of this meal was $89. I would highly recommend going to another restaurant for paying this amount, the food quality and quantity did not reflect this amount, obviously the service was a joke. I also want to note that the restaurant was probably only at 25% capacity. So, yeah. Train wreck. Holy crap, what an experience. I've gone to restaurants where the service is slow, food isn't great, etc. but this was literally a glitch in the matrix experience, we couldn't even believe it was happening. My boyfriend actually ended up going to Wendy's immediately after, and he's not a big boy either. The amount of food for an entree and the amount of wait between receiving your food and drinks will render you hungry. I can only imagine how the hard opening is going to go. My advice for the restaurant is, focus more on the entertainment and bar aspect and don't try and be a fine dining experience (because that is not what it is). Lower the prices of the food (it's a joke they are charging this much). Get some management on the floor. Seems like the owner just threw money into this venture but there is clearly no one actively running the show there. Most of the staff congregated around the bar and literally just sat around talking to each other. If there is no entertainment there needs to be some type of music or something going on. No one was playing pool in there but I feel like with the set up and largeness of the building the pool tables will be loud and even more hindersome to the already dismal eating experience. I came on opening night. I felt bad for this place, knowing the struggles they've had opening, and wanted to support them. I was very willing to accept some opening night type hiccups, but honestly walked away feeling sort of lied to. PROS - Really nice wait staff. Waitress was attentive and helpful. - The food came quickly. - The fish part of the fish and chips was pleasant. The part of the batter that touched the fish had obsorbed some moisture from the fish and gotten slightly mushy, but I'll be honest with you...I liked this. With it being crispy on the outside, a little gooey underneath, and fish at the center, it reminded me slightly of takoyaki, and I love takoyaki. I'm not sure it was intentional and I could easily see someone complaining about 'raw' batter, but personally I love some texture variation and I am here for it. CONS - Quality of food vs the cost and advertising/publicity. More detail on the food items below, but overall, I've had food of this quality and variety plenty of times before and never complained. The problem is the cost and publicity for this place suggest a slightly more upscale vibe, and the quality does not even remotely measure up. - The condiments and side of the fish and chips. The fish didn't come with lemon, tartar sauce, or vinegar, but instead 'dill lemon aioli'. It was a very tasty sauce, but very oily, heavy, and rich. This to me isn't the best with an already heavy fried food. I asked for tartar sauce, but they did not have any (didn't think to ask for lemon or vinegar). The 'chips' also weren't really chips/fries but thick cut slices of fried potato. Different, but not really an improvement. I'm ALL for interesting/creative takes on common dishes, but these little differences to me were neither different enough to be interesting nor were they an improvement on the basic standard. - Drink. I had the Waves Martini and it tasted like a watered down version those $1 drinks you get from Applebees. I can't speak to the alcohol level (I'm not good at judging and it's not my primary concern), but just flavor-wise, it was very weak. From what I could discern of the flavor, it also didn't taste very interesting. - The dessert, coconut mango bread pudding. I got the bread pudding to go, but this is a picture of it taken in my car before it got jostled on the way home. It was never a cohesive whole. Bread pudding is made of hunks of bread, yes, but the bread is supposed to be dried and then rehydrated with milk/egg/sugar and baked together so it resolidifies into a solid block, infused with flavors and creaminess of the added ingredients. This tasted and looked very much like someone had just cut up a relatively fresh (and chewy!) baguette and tossed it together with some syrup and coconut. It might have been the mango, but it almost tasted like it could be sourdough. It tasted like 'bread pudding' made by someone who doesn't understand what makes bread pudding good, and is also profoundly lazy. - The visuals. The plating was basic. Decor was lacking. Similar to the food quality issue, I would normally have no problem with the level of decoration and plating, but the cost and advertised vibe of the place suggested something better than this. - The menu options. The website says the menu is 'a world tour of tropical inspired cuisine' and that 'food has never been this exciting' and if I didn't know any better I would say it was a joke. Straightforward versions of spinach dip, tacos, wings, fried cheese curds, fish and chips, steak, salmon, mac and cheese... The menu is barely tropical, and definitely not 'exciting'. If it's possible to be aggressively average, this is it. This place isn't terrible, but it is irritating. They need to figure out what they are, own that, and stop putting on airs they can't live up to. read more

Decided to give this place a try on a Monday night for dinner....despite the reviews. We found our waiter, Jake to be extremely accommodating and friendly. His service was a positive experience all the way around. My husband ordered a Burgar, and it was outstanding and cooked perfectly. I ordered the Mac and cheese, a Jamaican steak taco and a fish taco. It all was very good! The fish taco was so so to my taste buds. The place has pool tables, a stage for entertainment, and a nice atmosphere. This establishment has a lot going on for entertainment. We were told there was swing dancing tonight, and they also have live entertainment, trivia, Mario cart racing, and comedians. Additionally, they will be implementing dueling pianos in the near future. Overall, I think this place is a good addition to Meridian restraunts,, and a fun experience when your out and about. Everyone should support the new business but I have to admit that I walked out really confused. Random tropical theme, live, slow acoustic music, swing dancing? What is going on here? It's supposed to be an "experience" .... Not sure what my experience was. Service was on par with every other restaurant and their teenager service. We called ahead to see what was on the kids menu but they don't have one! We were like oh this place might match the name and be fancy. Then we arrive with everyone dressed casually and an air hockey table and arcade games. So um... do you want kids there or not? The floor is concrete, the ceiling is open and exposed, and the windows make it so bright. There is also a stage and a lot of tech. It just doesn't match the bright light ambiance. Between the name, the tropical theme, the small menu, the lighting, the air hockey, the stage.... You just walk out confused. But the food... so mediocre. I made reservations to take my husband here for his birthday. Reservation was made for a Sunday evening through their website, I got a confirmation email, as well as a reminder text message of my reservation. When we showed up, there was no hostess, and no waitresses in sight (it was dead, mind you with a couple groups of people seated in the back of the restaurant). The only person we could see who worked there was the cook that we could see across the room from us. He made eye contact with me several times but did absolutely nothing to notify the hostess we were there. My husband and I waited for over 15 minutes for someone to greet us. It was an extremely disappointing experience. We were both so excited to try the food, but left feeling let down. I don't believe we will ever be returning. Also, what's the point of making a reservation if no one checks them??? We came on a night with live music (Saturday night at 7pm) and no one was there. Live music was good, but we were very confused about the atmosphere. Not at all what we expected.
