Every single thing we got was good, the staff was great, and they have a little something for everyone (ex: tuna nachos vs pigs in a blanket) If you go, get the cookie skillet you won't regret it!! Came here during the holiday season with a friend after work. Please was super crowded and a reservation was required to get a seat, otherwise you're stuck on a long waitlist. This spot I'd say is great for drinks, but food wise, the owners need to reevaluate on that front. Haloumi Fries ($21) - I don't know what to make of this. It needs a dipping sauce to accompany it to help make it taste better, whether that's ketchup, spicy mayo, etc. Calamari ($24) - Definitely not fresh. Tastes like it came straight out of the freezer and then dumped into a fryer. Beer Braised Short Ribs ($45) - I don't think they slow cooked this enough as the meat was still chewy and the meat does not fall apart. Had to cut this is a knife and that was also a bit tough. Cajun Pizza ($23) - This one I enjoyed the most. Loved the unique topping to make it cajun style. Cheeseburger Egg Roll ($18) - This dish has potential if they did not over fried this to a crisp. Churros ($13) - Can't really mess this up (or I'd hope you don't). Great way to end a meal. Came with a couple friends for dinner after work the other day. Nice venue and felt a little more pub-esque / homey than a lot of the other midtown options which I appreciated. It's got a huge menu - both for drinks and for food. You'll definitely be able to find something. I got the French Onion Soup Burger and and the Halloumi fries. Both were quite good. The halloumi was probably a little over-fried with not enough halloumi in the middle, but the french onion soup burger was really good and would get again. I got a Guinness as I wanted something light but I will say they had a couple house old fashioneds that looked really good and kinda creative. Would definitely return, enjoyed my meal. read more

I love when I go to a spot and want to order everything in the appetizer menu because I love to snack on multiple things. We actually came here during the superbowl not knowing that they would have the game on but they did and being our last night in the city we got to enjoy tasty bites and drinks and watch the game with the sound on in a not super crazy or crowded bar - perfect night! Since it was the super bowl I had to go for the pigs in a blanket and they were super good! We also got the cheeseburger egg rolls, I will say they are super pickle flavored which I typically don't love, and we also got the steamed bao buns that had duck confit. This is my regular go to bar located right in the heart of midtown Manhattan on 48 th street next to Rockefeller .They have a great variety of draft & bottled beers to choose from. I love their truffle cheese fries . Their other bar bites are also great to taste. This place gets madly crowded post office hours from 5 to 8 after which there's decent room and tables available.My only wish is that they had a good happy house offering , I do hope they introduce a happy hour menu in the future! read more

We picked this place based on location and YELP reviews. It seemed as if it was packed with locals, and I do mean PACKED. Most people were in the front of The Elgin where the door is located. They seemed to be celebrating the end of the work day (it was mid-week) and they celebrated loudly. We were seated in the back of the restaurant, but it was still very loud and very dark (photos were a challenge). Never the less, it suited our needs and our tummies. My daughter had the Smashed Avocado Toast: feta, radish, pumpkin seed, and pickled onion. She declared it as "excellent." My grand daughter had the mozzarella sticks an fries (the usual version), and I had the Apple Gorgonzola Salad: lettuce, candied walnuts, red onion, blackberries, blue cheese, apples, and apple cider vinegar. I thought it was quite good. I wouldn't recommend The Elgin for a romantic, quiet dinner, but if you are looking for a spirited place, this is a good choice. After a very early morning flight, we dropped our bags at our hotel around the corner and asked our receptionist where her favorite spot to grab a good sit down lunch is, and this was her recommendation. We walked right in at 11:30 just as they were open so there was not many other people in the place. This place is rather large and has a lovely bar with standing tables too for happy hour. We had the fried cauliflower as a starter and split a burger. The burger was freshly made (no frozen patties here) and came out nice and warm with plenty of small McDonald's style fries which I love! I did have the pigs in a blankey for an appetizer, with Kobe beef wrapped in puff pastry, accompanied by mustard, and sauerkraut. This was quite tasty! So I didn't have an amazing over the top bartender this time, but decent service and a much more welcoming atmosphere. Again, pub type food, burgers, a few mains like steak (pass), chicken Milanese, salmon. Some small pizzas. And some ok cocktails. Main draw to this place is that it's close to the theater district.
