Terrible service. Sat on the back deck today and got a nice seat under one of the shades. Deck was about half full and sat and waited for 15 minutes with no one taking a drink order, saying they were busy and would get to us soon, nothing... nothing from anyone. After that 15 minutes (and I was hoping to try the food, enjoy a beer and relax) we ended up leaving. I was amazed at how poorly coordinated this place is run. read more

This is possibly the most perfect restaurant. I am sitting on the outdoor deck and eating the best barbecue while feeling the Lake Michigan breeze listening to local live music (which is very talented!). If I could live here I might. Sampler platter = good idea. Also the Brussels sprouts are probably imported from heaven. Deck sauce= secret recipe of deliciousness- get that with your fries (which are also the best). Oh, and to make it even better they have awesome mixed drinks and really good bloody Mary's! All in all- I can't wait to visit my friend in Muskegon again if not solely to come here. The fact that this establishment includes the word "beer" in it's name causes me to wonder why they only serve beer in cans, and when I asked for a glass and orange slice for my Oberon it never came. Two of the people at our table asked for Bloody Mary's and what came was nothing close to the drink described on the menu. When I asked why, we were told that the server assumed that they just wanted regular Bloody Mary's and not the one on the menu. There was no offer to correct this. With no less than 5 separate Deck employees coming to our table I cannot understand why the service was so slow. I believe that it was our servers first night on her own, but those around presumably to support her did not. The food was hit or miss. The brisket was dry, the salads were good, the sides were ok, the pork rinds were great, the sweet potato roll was really good, but the smoked wings did not taste smoked. The band was good and from our spot on the pontoon boat they were the perfect volume. The biggest problem I had was with the menu. BBQ places usually have some sort of sampler plate which is what I usually like to get. The Deck had one, call the Bartop Special. Two people at our table attempted to order this to be told that it was only available at the bar. Nowhere on the menu did it say, "only available at the bar." So the two of us who had decided on that were scrambling to make other choices while the others at the table ordered. I want to give the place another chance next time I am in town, because the location is so nice. I hope that our experience was just an effect of it being early in the season and not what to expect. read more

The view and atmosphere was fantastic. Seems like it would be an amazing venue for a wedding reception or large party. They had live music outside and it was a festive atmosphere. We opted to go inside where it was a more quiet. Unfortunately, the menu items we chose were average. They weren't impressive to us, especially considering how much they cost. What a great first visit. Such a fun atmosphere in an amazing location. Had to take some extra time with the menu as it had everything we all wanted and more. One of each Sliders was a good choice, others loved the pulled pork and artisan hot dog trimmings. Could do with a few more craft beer selections but with Two Hearted available who really needs anything else. Hope to come back and work my way through the whole menu. read more

We weren't that hungry so had ribs, nachos & some sides split between 5 of us. Ribs were tender but needed flavor, there were six different sauces to choose from, which helped. Ate on the patio which was nice but place overall was lacking color. I wasn't sure it was even a restaurant until I walked in. Next to beach is a plus. Live music was nice also. Just stopped to sit and enjoy a couple of cold drinks by the beach. We sat for awhile at the bar on the deck. Not impressed with the place. It didn't seem fun or friendly. The servers and even the customers all seemed harried and stressed. Bar seemed kind of limited. Only canned beer and not much variety. Didn't eat anything so I can't comment on that. The vibe seemed to be picnic tables with some food service and a bar. The kind of place that would have been ok when I was in college but is just boring now. The location is awesome, right on the beach. I think this place has done just the bare minimum with it. read more

Great idea. Perfect for location. Food = great. BBQ was spot on and food was fast and hot (except fries - old and crappy!) Perfectly spiced. Pickles everywhere! Nice selection of house sauces. My burrito seemed to have a guacamole cavern in the middle of it that made it somewhat difficult to enjoy for about four or five bites. Would be nice if it has have been spread throughout the whole burrito. Service = pretty bad.. No attention to details. Asked for and didn't receive type of service. A lot of "I'll be right back with that (thing I forgot again!)" Barely saw our server after we got our food. Here's a clue for you, if the parents of 3 small kids ask for Togo boxes, drop the check. It's time to go!! It definitely won't be our last visit. It has a lot of room for improvement as far as service goes. I will update after our next trip. read more

My first visit to The Deck for drinks was a nice choice for a beautiful day by Lake Michigan and its breezes to the shores. We were greeted by a warm friendly staff. Throughout the deck are sun sails to give their tables shade options. On a sunny day, most want the shade option. That can cause a safe distancing issue. All staff wore mask, as all diners did coming in, but once seated the mask came off. Their menu was extensive, with many diner favorites. I saw several tables with nachos platters. We were allowed to bring Oliver, a Boston Terrier, along with us. He was greeted with a doggie bowl of iced water. A nice attentive greeting from one of the wait staff. All in all The Deck is a great spot for diners with the feel of the sand and Lake Michigan. Definitely a fun spot. Parking requires a city parking ticket, which is refunded back by The Deck, upon dining in their restaurant. read more

A group of five of us came here during the Burning Foot Beer Festival. We all got different food and everyone said how much they liked it. The ribs, the pulled pork, the fries and the burrito were all very tasty. Service was prompt and everyone was very nice. Great view of the beach and the water from this place. They are only open during the summer so don't try to come once the cold weather starts to set it. My only complaint is that we were bombarded by bees the whole time. Not much the establishment can do about that though. Great food. Quick service. read more

Took the family there for dinner. The food was great. The atmosphere was amazing and the service was great as well, even though they were busy they still made sure to follow up and always pay attention. Even after a walk on the beach and pier we decided to go back and sit on the swings up top and listen to the music and just enjoy the atmosphere. Will definitely be going back. read more

We were a party of 8 and dined on a Thursday night. We waited for about a half hour for a table, which wasn't a problem as we enjoyed the swings and some Jenna while we waited. The location is tops! The food was okay, nothing spectacular. Our server was friendly, polite, and efficient. The only real problem we had was with the music. They had a live band perform and unfortunately it was very loud.....we couldn't hear each other talk from across the table. That put a damper on the evening. read more

We were happy to have some gluten free options at the beach! The portions were big--- (too big actually. It seems like we wasted a lot of food and cups and other plastic wear. ) However, this is good bar food and much better than any other beach food I've had. Karen Z said it perfectly: "Great food, great location, great waitstaff, great view" I think it would be a bit of a drag if the weather wasn't good, but we went on a saturday afternoon (7/19) and they had a really good band playing. It was crowded, but it all ran well. Great place to just chill out, eat some good BBQ, go for a nice walk on the beach before/after. The only concern I had was the shade. We were lucky enough to be there on a mild afternoon, but there are very few umbrellas and not much shade except for a few indoor spots. I think they would make their patrons much more comfortable with a canopy or something. I'm afraid this would have been a 3-star place had it been much hotter. All in all. When it was time to pay, we flagged him down and never came back with our change and pocketed what was left. The Deck has gone through various ownership and the current owners seem to have most things right on. Located on Lake Michigan at Pere Marquette Park in Muskegon, the restaurant has lots of casual dining space, both beside and out. The food selection is good, and the drinks selection even better. If you need to move tables around to seat more people, as we did at our last visit, it's no problem. The wait staff was helpful, although they know nd of messed up our order, perhaps because of the size of our group (12 to 14). The food was good but not great, although the beef brisket and pulled pork that we had were very tasty. The place is pretty noisy but not atypical of a beach place. Not sure if the whole restaurant is open in the winter because it gets kinda chilly at the beach in December. read more

Mmmmmm! This restaurant is super delicious! Everything I've had here has not been a disappointment and the service has always been good, I've really had no problems at all! It's a nice place to go if you feel like eating outdoors and it's always nice when there is a band playing because you feel like you're on vacation in the south. I definitely recommend their nachos! First and last time. Visiting from out of town and wanted a beer after some beach time. Sat at the bar and our group of 4 were ignored. Not even eye contact. Finally had to ask to be served. Finished round 1 and after a wait asked to be served round 2. Absolutely no personality shown by the 2 bartenders. Also counted at least 6 servers standing in the bar socializing while customers sitting at the tables for 20 minutes waiting to have their orders taken. Never saw any management directing the staff. Sad part is the food we saw on servers trays looked and smelled very good. read more
