This is the Regal Beagle of Grand Haven. I have been on a quest to find the best Margarita in town. I sampled HiWay Inn, The Eagles Club, and the Tip. The Tip has the second best. It was VERY close to first. Here's why. HiWay uses their own mix with a patron upgrade. The Eagles used Cuervo Gold tequila, they really need to up their Margarita game especially now that they are serving Arturo's. Tip makes a simple, three ingredient margarita. We heard this is a classic Grand Haven experience. We sat at the bar, enjoyed the bar atmosphere and ordered cheese balls (1/2 pepper jack & 1/2 jalapeño), would do 100% jalapeño next time. My husband and I split the beef & bean wet burrito. It was very good and large enough to split. We enjoyed our meal, met people and had an overall pleasant time. I actually had some drinks at Tip-Two. This is the outside patio that is separate from the front. I can't comment on the food, since I only ordered beer. The best place for music in Grand Haven tonite. BIG DADDY FOX rocks it home. Great music in a beautiful water setting.

Oh, this dive bar is such a vibe! It's like stepping into a gritty little time capsule of good times and cheap drinks. The bartender? Total sweetheart--quick with a pour and even quicker with a smile. The kind of person who makes you feel like a regular on your first visit. The ambiance is unapologetically divey, with just the right amount of neon glow and a jukebox that's a treasure chest of bops. The crowd is a delightful cocktail of locals and random wanderers, making for some truly entertaining people-watching. Sure, it's a little rough around the edges (sticky floors, anyone?), but that's part of the charm, right? Also, can we talk about the snack situation? The wings? Chef's kiss. Didn't know I'd be thinking about bar food in my dreams, but here we are. It's not trying to be anything it's not, and that's what makes it amazing. A couple of minor tweaks and this place would be a full five stars for me. Until then, it's still the kind of spot you go to when you want to let loose and keep it real. Will I be back? Pleasant hole-in-the wall in Grand Haven. First the bitch...We had to wait about 1/2 hour for a table, which was not bad, seeing it was Coast Guard fest. The only negative thing I have to say - is that while waiting the following occurred. I had my vape sitting on the table. I was not actively vaping nor had any thought to do this (you do not vape or smoke indoors). One waitress came up to me and told me that I need to put it away. I have vaped for many years and have NEVER had any establishment tell me to put my vape away. If provided rationale, I would have had no issue. No rationale was provided. I found this odd and was somewhat offended (I do not look to be offended - Karen I am not). My PSA to the community - vapers beware while entering the vape-averse Tip-A-Few Tavern... If people put their cigarettes, pipes, or blunts on the table, are they asked to remove them from sight? (0*) Onto the the parts that matter for most people. 1) Ambience (3*) - pleasant. The waitress was beyond rude today. Haven't been here in years and our friends wanted to meet here. We all regret going.

Had my reservations going in based on previous reviews and what people had said word of mouth. Pleasantly surprised we had a few rounds of drinks and split a bunch of stuff on the menu (nachos , chicken strips etc.) it was all we. above bar food and reasonably priced considering the area. I try to vacation in GH every year with my daughter. This year I had a trip with my best friend and took her to Tip-a-few. it was a weekday and the greeter at the door was very nice. He said it was a long wait but offered two seats at the bar that were open. we asked if you could eat at the bar and he said yes! we sat down and asked the bartender for a few menus. she gave the meanest look and went to get menus. then proceeded to whisper to the man that was working with her. witnessing all this we both looked at each other in disbelief. We thought if that's how they treat people we were outta there! we immediately left and found another restaurant. I guess she assumed we were not going to order drinks! You get what you expect , very good bar food , with very well known burritos and enchiladas, Tim knows how to mix a drink as do others , be careful of the margaritas they cause you to behave strangely if you have more than 2. Its a staple when we want fun , low cost night out w friends. We enjoyed Tip again on a warm September evening. It was burrito night and they did not disappoint. We had a party of 5 and were seated quickly. Nothing fancy here just beers and 3 dollar off burritos on a Monday. Very satisfied group of us made those burritos disappear! If you have a party of greater than 4 people just don't even bother. My family was given an estimate of 45 minutes and we waited 2 hours before begging to squeeze into a 4 top. The food was great, serving staff as well. The real reason for the one star though is the absolute imbecile working the front. Not sure if he is a hostess or a bouncer but he is an absolute worthless waste. Not only did he constantly assure us a few more minutes numerous times with error. He smoked weed in front of us, which I have no problem with weed, but he was on the clock supposed to be working. He and his two buddies (who weren't there working) occupied a table that could have fit at least 7 people had the given even the slightest shit about their customers. His presence at that restaurant was unnecessary and honestly detrimental to the entire experience/business. Not sure who runs the place but the front end needs to be overhauled and at a minimum retrained so that there is a monicker of competence before being seated. I know for a fact I will never return here as it just simply isn't worth the headache, which is a shame because the food really is good, especially the wet burrito. Again, If you have less than 5 people you will likely have a much better experience. But if you value your time, go anywhere else. read more

Great dive bar! This place has been around FORVEVER, and really hasn't changed much over the years. You probably wouldn't know, but it's a great spot for Mexican food. My favorite are the chips n cheese. It's as if they made sure to load every chip with a heaping amount of melted cheddar cheese. So good!! I also got the wet burrito. It too is covered with a ton of cheddar, and is just enormous! I love to eat and couldn't finish it all. It's super tasty! Ask for some salsa on the side! Went to the Tip A Few Sunday of 4th of July weekend. Could not believe we walked in and got a table with no waiting. Luckily timing. This is easy walking distance from the boardwalk on the waterfront. On the downside it is Very small and kinda loud. Plus side the beer - Perrin Black on tap was served almost ice chip cold. Waitress was friendly and really good. Did not wait for anything. Had fish and fries, (cod) it was good and very hot. Others of the group had wet burritos and said they were really good. I am normally not one for stating a place is really good and I did kinda get bothered by the noise level but all in all I am sure we will be back next time we walk to the pier. read more

It is a neighborhood bar that is great for hanging with like minded sports enthusiasts or just a catching up with friends. The food is comforting and portions are generous, and that also goes for drinks with a wide variety of your favorite beer as well. While Covid has presented its challenges, the Tip is very conscious of the health and safety of it's patrons and staff. It's a local favorite, or so I'm told. :) The boys settled on this place and it didn't disappoint. I've only been during a weekday late afternoon and it was a exactly as it should be. Dark on the inside with the walls completely covered with memorabilia. If I had to pick a favorite piece it would be the totem pole. No fuss kind of menu. We split the cheese & chips deluxe, aka nachos, with taco meat, which included lots of melty cheese, jalapenos and chunks of tomatoes. The other guys both got these massive wet burritos. One of the guys mentioned that most places stuff their burritos with a lot of rice to fill it up, but here, he happily noticed it was mostly pack full of meat. This is a small bar and grill. We checked in and had a 40 minute wait. It was somewhat challenging to find parking nearby. We ordered the chips and cheese which were just tortilla chips with melted shredded cheese. For $10 I could have bought a large bag of chips and large shredded cheese and popped it in the microwave myself. The wet burrito was good and large enough to share. Went to this bar with a big group and got the worst service ever. The waitress talked to us with a tone all night and almost seemed to be avoiding our table. We asked for a round of shots and she just blew us off. The bouncer told multiple people in our group that we needed to quiet down or we'll be removed from the bar. The place was super busy which I thought might be really good food. People behind us said you're going to love it. I don't think they've ever had real Mexican food before. I normally don't like to travel over the bridge into Grand Haven on a night out, but if I do it's most likely to Tip-A-Few. It is one of the few places in Grand Haven that doesn't have that "college bar" atmosphere. This place reminds me of my home turf (Stan's Bar, Spring Lake) just over the bridge with their welcoming staff and great prices!
