Wasn't sure of what I was going to think of this place after first glancing at their menu, but after actually eating their food, I'm sold. A little pricey if you're just looking for a quick bite, but their portions definitely make up for it. I ordered the Deck's nachos topped with some pulled pork and they were some of the best nachos I've ever had. The pulled pork was so tender and moist, I couldn't stop eating it. My husband ordered the pulled pork with a side of cornbread, beans & mac and cheese and practically licked his plate clean. The atmosphere is super casual (bathing suits welcome!) and has a great location and feel. I will definitely be making regular stops here when I'm in town. read more

My first time here, and my last . How do you come in to a restaurant, after waiting for 20 mins for a table, only to sit down and order and find out that they don't have half the menu available?!?! That's terrible ordering on Mgmts behalf, next after we order there Summer Sampler, which was just guacamole, Quest and pineapple salsa out of jar, the waitress tells us that they kitchen is being stingy with the chips...WTF!!! Great food, great location, great waitstaff, great view...overlooking Lake Michigan at the Pere Marquette beach area. Our family enjoyed the ribs and andoille sausage. Our sides were varied--fries, bbq bean, mac n cheese, potato salad, etc. Our meals also included delicious fresh bread with flavored butter, a slice of sweet watermelon and butter pickles. The potato salad is made "southern-style" so it tasted like what I make & I'm from the South! The Harris Group owns & operates this new establishment. It's open until 11PM so we'll definitely visit again in the evening. What a great new place to eat and bring our friends from out of state. I would've given it 5 stars, but it's not the very best bbq we've ever had, but it's still pretty amazing. Muskegon needed this type of restaurant. Lots of room, attire is beach-wear and casual. I went to The Deck Sunday night 7/20 at 8pm for some dinner with my wife. Went online and checked the hours and saw they were open until 2am. When we got there the place was packed! But, the hostess informed us and the party of 12 behind us that their kitchen was no longer open! Bummer! I wish it would have said that online! The party of 12 walked, but we decided to stay for a $10 Bloody Mary(It was an 8/10). The waiter was friendly, but was acting like everything he was doing for us was a favor because they were closing. I kept asking when they close, but he wouldn't give me a straight response. At 8:35 we see people getting their food! Either they were still serving food or it took them 35min to get their food! Finally at 8:45 they turned off the music outside while their was still about 40-50 on the deck eating and enjoying their drinks. People were still getting turned away left and right at the hostess stand. It started to get real awkward as their was no music and they were packing stuff up on the tables. Finally everyone got the hint and started to leave! The menu is mostly things that you don't want at the beach in my opinion. When I'm hanging out the beach swimming and playing volleyball I don't want something hot and heavy like BBQ beef brisket. I want something light and fresh like a fish taco. I'm giving The Deck a 1/2 star for the Bloody Mary and 1/2 star for the view. read more

We had a great time relaxing on the patio and enjoying drinks and apps. I found the both the drink menu and restaurant menu you to be very diverse. Out server Justin was amazing. He was able to offer several different suggestions as well as give us detailed directions to the downtown area. We look forward to returning in the near future. read more

The food was good, the restaurant was lively, but overall experience was terrible and I wouldn't ever go back. Please please please check on the wait time to be seated BEFORE paying $10 for parking. We were told a 45min wait, but we had already paid for parking so we figured we would just bite the bullet and wait it out. One hour into the wait we went back to the hostess to ask about our reservation, we discussed just cancelling the reservation at this point because we were fearful of missing our movie. We ended up keeping the reservation but the hostess had cancelled our spot in the queue. She said we would have to be re-added to the queue and start the wait all over again. We informed her that was not acceptable and they were then able to "figure it out" and get our spot back in line. Got seated, the waitress was great, the food was good, the view was nice. I won't even go into the whole story of how they were not able to reimburse us for our parking... 2 stars for the food and the nice waitress. read more

Great food! Fun atmosphere! Be careful when using your credit card. Last year our card number was taken by one of the workers and they used our card. We called to speak with a manager, and left voice mails.... we were told the owner would be in touch! Still to this day we have not been contacted! Called the credit card company had the charge disputed luckily but it's still scary! Just be careful when using your card. Went to the pere Marquette beach and went here for lunch. Food was good, better than what I expected for food near the beach. The BBQ chips were excellent. We just went here around dusk for some drinks and sat outside. It was an awesome environment and their live band was really good. This place was a big disappointment. There was no wait for a seat, but after we ordered it took a long time for our food to arrive. Waitress then brought our food, but no utensils to eat with. The fries were cold. The corn on the cob was a grayish color and had a very thick rub on it. My daughter got cornbread but no butter. We waited a very long time for refills and ended up asking another waitress to help us. They were also out of the cups that come with the kids meals. This restaurant has potential to be a very nice spot, but they need huge improvements before we will ever be back. read more

Tried to eat in Grand Haven, two hour wait everywhere. The desk clerk at our hotel suggested the Deck. It appeared to be rather busy but we were seated right away and our excellent food and drinks followed shortly. Pulled pork and brisket beach burrito were fantastic. Waitress was funny and attentive. The Deck has a delicious house made vegan burger made with beans and quinoa they will put in tacos, burrito bowls, and as a burger. You just have to request no cheese, sour cream, etc. if you want the meal fully vegan. I got the burro bowl and it was excellent. I was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere on the beach is obviously very nice as long as you're not seated right next to the live band, and our waitress was delightful. I will definitely be going again. :) read more

It was about 1:45, we had reservations on the Lake Express ferry to Milwaukee and had to check in at 4:15. We'd just driven from Petoskey on a very meager breakfast, so we were very ready to get lunch, and it was an absolutely gorgeous blue sky summer day. With a couple of hours to kill, we wanted to sit on a deck overlooking the lake, get some food and a drink, and just soak in the view while staying reasonably close to the ferry dock. So we headed south along the lakefront with very low expectations as the once industrial Muskegon lakefront revealed itself. But within a couple of miles we found ourselves driving into a park with a gorgeous white sand beach and what appeared to be a hot dog stand with a porch and beach umbrellas. Deciding that even a crummy hot dog would be OK on a porch overlooking the lake, we walked in and were pleasantly surprised to find a simple but attractive bar, a good-sized dining room, and a wraparound deck with great views. Even better, the menu offered a lot more than dogs and burgers, and there was a short but well chosen beer list. We both had salads, which were very tasty, and I enjoyed a local craft beer. The service was friendly and prompt, and we eventually left for the ferry totally relaxed after enjoying a far, far better experience than we expected. read more

OK, the draw is eating at the beach! That said I enjoyed our visit very much. We were surprised they were not busier on an August Sunday afternoon but were were seated immediately and had our choice of a table inside or out. We split the difference and had an inside spot next to the open overhead garage style doors. Our server was Marina who was very helpful and attentive. We started with an appetizer of chips and several dips: Queso, guack, black bean salsa... Chips were good and dips were tasty. BBQ items are the main fare and we tried the brisket, ribs and a burrito with bbq chicken. Items were smoked and served "bare" allowing you to try the six various flavors of sauce on the table. Portions were large and the food was good. The eibscwere a bit over-charred and burned at the edges which Ed complained about, but as you got in-between the bones it was render and moist. Sally loved the brisket and a large portion made it to the doggie bag. Prices were reasonable, setting was awesome, service was great and the food was good. We will go back. read more

I want to give the food 4 Stars. I have the Deck Nacho's with brisket added. It was slightly spicy, VERY DELICIOUS brisket and the nacho sauce was cheesy with good flavor. It came on a huge try that would have been perfect for two people. Maybe not good for a first date since it's messy but comfort food with a zing! My co-diner had the grilled chicken sandwich and fries. Also was very good. We ordered the fried mac n cheese bites for an appetizer The reason for the three stars: 1. It took a few minutes to get us seated which was no big deal. It was a Tuesday night and not busy. Our table was right next to another table so people couldn't walk around. I had to get up and move so others could get by. 2. After waiting for 15 minutes, I had to ask a server to find our waitress since we hadn't even gotten drinks yet. After she took our drink order (soda, water and lemonade) it still took another five minutes for her to bring them. 3. We had to ask for silverware and refills. 4. I extremely dislike the chairs. It feels like I'm going to fall backwards because they lean back so far. I understand it's a "beach bar" but slouching in a chair for an hour is really uncomfortable. 5. I might have missed it on the menu but I didn't see lake trout or perch listed anywhere. I had heard the perch was really good and was looking forward to trying it. It might have only been a special offering. The food was good and I hope to go back to try other items. For a bill of $50 for two people that didn't include alcohol, I would have expected the wait staff to be more on top of things especially for a Tuesday night in the middle of summer. read more

I ate there a couple nights ago and was devastatingly disappointed. Our waitress Becca treated us awfully and yelled at us when a friend and I told her for a second time that we wanted to split an appetizer between us. Working at a hair salon I understand the importance of treating customers kindly as you want them to come back. Personally I will never come back because Becca made my friend and I feel awful for a minor mistake that she made. I was appalled and upset that she not only did that but that the deck allows employees like her to work there. I will never go back and if you ever do go there, any other waitress is fine except for Becca. Great atmosphere and food but if you don't want to get screamed at, don't go there. read more

I went there last year food was good did get a wet table but I tried that with my own napkin. The meat was good and the sides were tasty and the best part was a six pack of sauces so you could find your favorite! nice portions too ! Prices were fair and service was okay also. I recommended this place to all of my friends here in Muskegon where I live. I went back this year and it's amazing how far down a place can go so quickly! I do agree I was taken back by no draft beer last year in such a beer consciousness society we now live in and I hate beer in cans and bottles! This year they had an even smaller choice. As for the food, I ordered the same thing as last year and the meat came out dry and the sides were watery and not as good and the only sauce came on the food already and sucked! To add insult to injury the prices had increased 20 to 30 percent! That $10 Bloody Mary is now 13 and eleven dollars for a half chicken only to receive a wing thigh and leg is a rip! My 4 stars from last year has dropped to one! Yes they do have a nice deck but most of the view of the beach is nothing but a sand dune and sky and this place is definitely not worth the price! I'm not one to complain but being a former Chicago resident I have described Muskegon as an epicurean disaster! Last year I thought things were changing but was highly disheartened this year! I've been here 15 years and this building has been four different bars and restaurants and I don't see much of a future for this place! It does good business in the summer by visitors but a restaurant here needs a good base of locals to keep it going! read more

Amazing location and venue. I have traveled the south extensively and have had great BBQ in every state south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Michigan is very well represented by The Deck. The Deck has great outdoor seating with wonderful views of the beach. There were three people in my group such that we had a good sample of the food. The Mac-n-Cheese and BBQ Beans are truly special side items, the brisket and pulled pork were sensational. The only reason for the 4 not 5 stars was the service was okay (not bad but nothing special). read more

Great barbecue menu with large portions. You definitely won't go hungry here. The only issue was the service was a bit slow. Took a while to get seated even though all they needed to do was wipe down some tables and push them together for our party of 5. Once we got our food, our server kind of ghosted.
