Flew into Boston to meet our boat then went up to Newport for a change of scenery. After a few :just okay" meals, and not being able to find a cab, other than a $25.00 pedi cab, we wanted to stay near the marina for our last night. What a pleasant surprise!! We had eaten in the bar for lunch, and it was good, not great. Huge portions, though. So we looked at the restaurant menu. Went there around 6:30 for a couple of drinks. The inside restaurant is nicely appointed, with a black and white theme. We chose to sit at the bar where you have a full view of the kitchen-sort of like a chef's table. Watching the chef prepare meal was like watching the cooking channel. He certainly knows his way around his kitchen. His dishes came out quickly and were beautifully plated. Because I am not a fan of duck, I ask the chef if he could prepare the bone in filet au poivre like the breast of duck-which he gladly did. It was delicious!!! Moist, full of flavor, the sauce didn't over power it-just enhanced it. My husband ordered the chicken picatta. He got 3 paillards-not the usual 2, and they were to die for! Cooked to perfection, not over done and moist and lemony. Service was exceptional. All the staff were super courteous and friendly, and thus the other diners felt drawn in too. Everyone seemed to really enjoy their meals-as I heard nothing but superlatives. This place is a bit off the beaten path, and I hope the good reviews will help people find and enjoy it. Like finding places off the beaten path that are surprisingly good, however this wasn't the case. It was restaurant week and I think the staff was overwhelmed. Service was poor and slow. Even my wine glass had lip stick on it, chef wasn't willing to offer a vegan alternative which was unfortunate. Lighting was harsh as well, not very calming as it felt like you're under spotlights. Wish I had more positive things to say but hope this helps them make some improvements. read more

Like the 2 star rating says " Meh. I've experienced better" Had to send back an entree for being over cooked, "stuffee" was rubber. It was just before the "season" opened so we ate in side while our view of the water was obscured by a tent with a bunch of loud sports fans. The prices didn't match with what the location offered as to a view. Would love to go back when the tent is down so i could get the full on DECK experience. We payed 10 bucks to park BTW. read more

The Deck is located right on the water on Waite's Wharf. It has a great view of the ocean. I've never eaten here before, so I can't comment on the food. I've had some good times here, but it's nothing too special. The bar is huge and attracts a lot of the younger crowd on weekends. It can get like a zoo on Friday/Saturday nights with all the people. Drinks are pricey, which is expected - but mixed drinks seem very weak. 5 dollars for domestic beer? Come on... Bar service can be slow during busy hours. read more

Food took forever to come out. Lobster mac and cheese is overrated and drenched in butter. Scallops were overcooked and tough on the outside. Seaweed risotto had a funny taste and was mushy. They have a very limited beer menu. Light up menus were cool though. read more

It was s beautiful day, by the water, great place. Unfortunately this was by far, the worst service I've ever had, ever. We waited for 1 1/2 hour wait for food and waitress stopped by our table 3 times. The manager apologized, but disappeared. This place has so much going for it, but what a joke. Stay away. read more

I am so not one to complain but I downloaded this app just to explain how horribly run this restaurant is... Not only did I wait at the bar for 25+ minutes ... NO ONE came over to me and offered to get me anything. Granted , it's a Sunday and it's the brunch hours... And it's a slow day. Since no one decided to serve me at the bar because the 3 men that were behind the bar were huddled in a corner chatting.. I decided to get a table. Beside the host being MIA for a good 20+ minutes I decided to sit myself. Let me remind you, it is literally me and 2 other tables tables in this restaurant. I had to wave the waitress down 15 minutes after I sat down. Unbelievable. I ordered a clam chowder. Keep in mind, this place is not cheap. It's $16 for an omelette ... So in my head this should be a some what decent looking plate. My soup came out in a PLASTIC bowl and plastic plate underneath... Considering this place is expensive this is at an all time low. My waitress has yet to come back and ask how it came out. Which, my first bite I had a sandy crunch in it... Confused ? Yes. There is no clams in this soup so I'm also confused what I just ordered. As I sit here wondering why we came here I'm realizing a few things. First they are woefully understaffed. They ran out of food before even 5pm. The good was typical grease fare and the drinks were okay. The fish and chips were huge! So they get points for that. But not coming back anytime soon. read more

Unfortunately Yelp does not let you give negative rating, so had to give @ The Deck 1 Star, should have been a negative 5. It was the worst dinner experience of my life. We had a dinner reservation for 7pm and did not sit at the table till 8:15. The manager was complacent, insincere and unemotional about the hour plus wait for a table. All but one meal arrived, we waited up to 10 minutes, a runner came with this meal and promptly removed it, with no reason and gave to another table. Only after that to never receive this meal. I have been here many times, and the quality of ambiance beats that of the food. After having lunch here about a month ago, I realized I had left my sunglasses behind. I called them and Sierra the hostess told me she had the glasses and that she would place them in lost and found. I stated I would return mid-week to retrieve the glasses and she reminded me they are closed on Tuesdays. The next Wednesday, I returned to pick up the glasses. The manager, Reggie, was a nice guy but was unable to locate my glasses. He made some calls and stated that one of the waiters may have taken them with him (WTH?) I left $20 and my address with Reggie and asked him to mail me the glasses when he got them back. A month later, multiple phone calls to the restaurant and I am still out the glasses and my $20. The owner, Tommy, was supposed to call me last weekend but it's now 5 days past last weekend. It's my fault for leaving the glasses behind, but the restaurant is negligent for retrieving them and failing to safeguard them until I returned to pick them up. The fact they are ignoring me and pretending this is a normal occurrence rubs salt in the wound. We will be going to small claims court if the matter isn't resolved by this coming weekend. Bottom line, employees, management and ownership have a lack of respect for the belongings of their customers. read more

This was a very disappointing place. The location was ok, but you have to walk down an alley to get there. It was noisy, the service was just OK and the food was nothing special and too salty. I was very excited to try this place because the reviews were good. We went for brunch, and the food was terrible. The restrooms were so bad that one of our friends wouldn't use them and went to the public restrooms downtown instead. The environment is nice because its on the water, but I would recommend walking down the street to The Port. It is a much better restaurant, better view, better drinks, and the bathrooms are clean. I hear the Deck has good nightlife, so maybe that's what the good reviews are for. Bring some Purell for the bathroom, though. read more

I have a severe seafood allergy to all seafood...not just shellfish. I made it explicitly clear to our waitress how serious it is and that the I can have a reaction to the slightest of cross contaminations. This afternoon I had just that...a seafood reaction that was very slight but definitely noticeable. I thought twice about informing our waitress but on second thought considered it was important they knew for the safety of other customers. The manager greeted us along with our waitress and comped the entire meal. This was entirely unnecessary but very much appreciated. The manager was very apologetic and ensured me the kitchen would be notified of the importance of such matters. Although I'm not rating the food I am rating the service which is equally important. I would definitely recommend this establishment and plan on future visits. I thank our waitress for taking this matter seriously as well as the manager. read more

WORST experience on the East Coast. I was visiting my daughter in Massachusetts and decided we'd do a road trip to Rhode Island for good food on the water. We had 4 people and seated outside. Waited quite a while for a waitress, then another good amount of time for our drinks. The only fish offered was lobster rolls, which surprised me. I ordered a chicken salad (not a fan of lobster) which was $19.99! I thought it would be an amazing salad! WRONG! Rubbery chicken, looked like someone opened a bag of lettuce and dumped it in a most unappetizing bowl too big for the salad. After waiting for the food, no drink refill in the meantime, it came without dressing. Had to wait another 10 minutes for waitress and dressing. Complained to management and they just smirked and shrugged their shoulders. Thankfully found a great place to eat in Boston, some out of the way bar had better food, service and price. Hopefully people use the reviews and this saves someone else. read more
