I having been boating and staying at Westwind Marina for 6 or 7 years. I have been here for drinks. Drinks with lunch. Drinks with lunch then dinner. Finally last night we (20 of us) ventured inside for a DINNER. It was beyond amazing. The staff and chef were outstanding. The food was outstanding and the service with a broad smile exceptional!!! All of the above while a cat 1 hurricane was hitting us. Ok so you spend $200 on dinner then head outside for an after dinner cocktail and the staff will not let you back inside to use the bathroom!! The only bathroom (ladies) they have outside is totally gross and had a kitty litter box in it!!! Are you kidding!!! read more

I came here in Summer 2013 for some wings and they were awful. I decided to give this place another chance this summer and it was even worse. I ordered steak tips and my friend ordered nachos: both came out cold. Really? Cold steak? In Newport? Wow. Then the waiter has the audacity to offer me choices for my side, but then charges an extra three dollars for "replacing the fries with sweet potato fries". Yeah... I don't think so. Come here if you want drinks and a nice view. Don't come here if you want good food. Done with this place. read more

Great view and music. Ate on the patio. Beer selections are slim and drafts are small for the price. Patio menu is limited even for pub food. I had a burger where everything beyond lettuce and tomato was an extra 50 cents. The burger was the size of a slider and the bun was very stale. My wife's chicken rollup was good but nothing special. This is absolutely not a four-star experience. The service was good which is represented with my two star review. We had a party of eleven and everyone agreed the food and the restaurant was an epic fail. The lobster in the lobster stuffy had to have been cooked the day before... so bad the pork chop special was dry and the wine reduction sauce was terrible. I met the chef Matthew Holmes after complimenting my server about THE BEST LOBSTER MACARONI dinner I have ever had. I come from Providence and am familiar with the less than adequate attempts that some the best Federal Hill restaurants have made with this dish. The pasta was on point with the correct amount of oils, butter, cheeses and greens...topped with a nice amount of buttered ritz cracker crumbs. Since I started working in Newport a year ago I have had the pleasure to dine in many area restaurants. No problem stating I'm going back to The Deck next week for medium pricing...great service...and marvelous flavor Oops and the STUFFIES were to die for! read more

My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place when we were getting to know Newport soon after moving here. He and I are both seafood lovers and love a good lobster roll. lf you are familiar with Newport, you know that a lobster roll can run you anywhere from $16-$28. Well this delightful place has a deal on Mondays during the summer where they have $8 lobster rolls. They have two styles to choose from and they are delicious. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a nice cold beer with them. The staff was friendly and attentive. We went back on several mondays to get these lobster rolls. We won't buy them anywhere else because it is such a bang for your buck. This place is also a really cool college atmosphere. We brought some friends here mid-day on a saturday and they had games to play and a DJ. This is a really fun spot for the 20-30 crowd. Really excited for it to open back up in the summer. My boyfriend and I also dined inside during restaurant week and really enjoyed the food. We will be back! read more

The service was appalling. It was my mother's birthday and we thought this would be a good place for her birthday dinner. We arrived at our table on the deck, and not only was the table not set with placemats, water glasses, and silverware, but remnants of the previous diner's dinner (bread basket, silverware, etc) were on the floor under the table. Our first round of drinks took about 10 minutes to arrive, and when they did we placed our food order. At this point we had not been offered water, nor were we given silverware (we actually had to ASK for silverware when our food was finally delivered.) About half an hour went by, during which time our waitress never returned to the table. We tried several times to flag our waitress down because we were hungry, and we needed another round of drinks. She finally came over and took our drink order and said she would check on our food. Another ten minutes went by before she came to tell us that half of our table's meals were ready but the other half were not. We asked her to bring the food that was ready, so it would still be hot. Long story short, three of us got our food while the other three sat and watched them eat. About 15 minutes later the other three of us got our food. And we had to remind the waitress that we had in fact ordered another rond of drinks. At one point I asked the waitress if the service was always this appalling and she mumbled that the kitchen was backed up. Oh, and when we finally did receive our not cheap meals, one of our plates was missing mashed potatoes and the steak that was ordered medium rare was delivered well done. After letting the waitress know how displeased we were with the service, she did absolutely nothing to make it right. But she did tack her 18% tip on to the check since there were six in our party. Fortunately we did not let this atrocious dining experience diminish my mother's 75th birthday celebration. But if you expect to get a level of service that matches the inflated prices of the entrees at this restaurant, you will be seriously disappointed. I'm currently sitting her while my husband & son down the lobster & clam bowl. We were looking for a nice relaxing outdoor place to have seafood. 1st problem.. the girls that seats you is miserable barely said 2 words, 2nd they have live music which is so loud my family & I can't hear each other. 3rd.. our waiter just walked over to our table & stood there with his tablet to take our order... no words?? 4th ... ordered a Pepsi & it Taste like diet, sent it back for a new "Pepsi" & tastes the same.. how can you screw up a Pepsi?? 5th asked for the desert menu twice & finally received it with 1/2 of it crossed off because it wasn't available. I just asked my family how their $40 bowl was & they said just ok?? Don't go if your looking for a relaxing atmosphere with good food! read more

Oysters on the half shell were great. Our party ordered a veal special, filet mignon, hangar steak special and pork osso bucco. The pork was recommended by our waiter and was well worth the recommendation! The veal was tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Service was excellent! It's a well-heeled crowd of booze bags and it's always a great time. The bartenders are fun and keep the mood lively. The clam chowder tasted like Campbell's soup. Sweet potato fries weren't anything to write home about either. The lobster roll was awesome though, but a little pricy for lunch.. I would advise skipping this place. While the server was EXCELLENT the food was really sub par. I had penne with vodka and chicken. It was a soup of sauce. After reading the Yelp reviews I had low expectations but was really pleasantly surprised. The service was great, our waitress Amanda was excellent, nice personality, friendly and prompt. We got seated on the deck for sunset and listened to a singer guitar player covering the hits, mostly rock, very relaxing. Fresh baked sourdough bread and oil pesto arrived promptly. The Caesar Salads were fresh and tasty. Both entries were great although my girlfriends scallops were truly delicious, cooked perfectly with a nice wasabi sauce. The Chicken Piccata was very good. I wrote the review as it seems the Deck may have made some changes from the bad reviews, all for the positive. We both agreed we will go back. read more

Seafood chowder is unbelievable. Great food, friendly staff, and cool location.

Although this was not our first choice for a restaurant on a Friday evening it was the only one that would accommodate us for a 7:15 reservation. Upon arriving we were surprised how slow they were. We were all pleasantly surprised overall. Our waitress , Karen was attentive, friendly and obviously loved her job. The boys shared a large plate of Bluepoint oysters and said they were great. My swordfish was excellent. A nice thick cut that was perfectly cooked. The steak and lamb shank were also cooked perfectly. I would highly recommend this restaurant. read more

Definitely an awesome brunch spot! Not a great seafood menu like you'd expect with their waterfront location, this place is all about their patio. The deck has 2 huge bars and a giant dj booth. Their corned beef hash benny was bomb, and although they didn't have a "brunch" cocktail list they were happy to make me a bloody maria with the huuuge full bar. Fun spot! read more

Absolute dissapointment. My wife took me here for Fathers day and I ended up wishing she took me to BK. We ordered 1 drink and 1 entre each and the bill was $100. On top of that my wife ordered a tuna plate that was the worst fish she ever saw. She told the waitress (who agreed) and she took and threw it away. No replacement, no substitute didn't even take it off the bill not even the drinks. So we sat in a tiny crowded dining room got terrible food and paid far too much for it. What a great find on a Sunday afternoon. We had brunch at the Deck this past Sunday. The Brunch was great from the Lobster Roll to the Omelets, which were perfect. The "grown up" grill cheese was a nice comfy food. Not only the food but the band ZanRicky was excellent. They play beautiful music together. The band kept us there the rest of the afternoon enjoying Zans wonderful voice. We will be bringing friends with us to see them again this Sunday & enjoy the food and sun. read more

The Deck is what happens when a bar owner/manager watches too many episodes of Bar Rescue and decides the 1600% profit they make on alcohol isn't enough and they need 1800%. By far the weakest, most overpriced drinks in Newport. The bartenders are great but they're too handcuffed to do anything about it. It feels like the kind of place where you can lose your job by giving away a Pepsi. It's a shame too because the location and setup is fantastic, but it's just a Friday/Saturday night spot only. You walk by the Landing on a sunny Tuesday afternoon and it's packed. You walk by the Deck which is a better location, a better setup, and has better food, and it's empty. It's just not the kind of place where you can post up and relax for awhile. Maybe it's done intentionally, who knows, but it's just a shame because it could be so much more. read more

The bar is still good, but the food has really gone downhill. I had $41 steak last weekend, and it was bad. It was a bad cut of beef, chewy, overcooked, and the mashed potatoes were cold.. I don't know how you can mess up a steak, but they did. My girlfriend had the crab cake appetizer and liked it, so they didn't screw up everything. I've talked to people who've gone there, and about half said it was good, half said it wasn't. Shame, because it used to be great. Go to the bar and skip the food. read more

My wife and I were spending the day walking around Newport and stumbled upon The Deck, we of course wanted to sit at an outside table by the water to get some drinks, the place was dead, mind it was 4th of July weekend so we didn't think it would be a problem. The hostess said sure no problem and the manager or whoever the older woman that was sitting next to the hostess jumped right in and said "no absolutely not, you have to order food to sit by the water." At first I was understanding about it, then I looked out there and there was only 1 table out of the 6 options for tables filled. So we took a bar table inside because we had no choice even though the place was empty. Once we got there we asked if we could move to a table that was two feet away but outside and not underneath the tent, the hostess said "sure but if we get busy will you be willing to give up your table," we then proceeded to walk out. What kind of customer service is this!? We should have left upon being denied a table for no other reason but because we didn't plan on ordering food. At all costs do not bother spending any money or wasting your time here. read more

This is not the place to go if you want a quick/cheap meal or drink. We went to celebrate my mother's birthday and had a great time. We sat inside so I didn't see much of the outside bar, but from what I did see (our window table had a nice view of the outside smoking area) it looked like d-bag central. Anyway, the wait staff was great (a little slow, but we weren't in a hurry), the food was amazing (and at nearly $30 for an entree it should be!) and the atmosphere very nice (a little crowded, but we were in a corner, so it wasn't too noticeable). I wish there was a way to give negative stars for this review. It's really that bad. I decided to take my sister and her family here for an outdoor lunch. Her son attends the Coast Guard Academy and was in town on a sailing/training excursion. He's been on a small boat for the last week and was hoping for a decent meal. Upon asking the waitstaff for a recommendation, she said the Chef always recommends the fried fish sandwich. So a few of us got that. Just to put things into perspective, the guy that been eating crap on a boat with 9 other cadets for the 11 days didn't get past 2-3 bites. I actually pulled the fish out and ate the bread - I was hungry. The beers we ordered had black soot on the rim. A Mcdonalds Filet Fish is 100x better than this fish sandwich. I can't say how the food was because we never ate!! Sat out on the patio with our dog because they're dog friendly. The location was very good and right on the ocean. However upon looking on the menu, I noticed it was all "snack" food like wings and small salads, no entrées. We asked our waitress and she said that they only served dinner inside and not on the patio. Which to me is ridiculous. We had our dog with us so we weren't able to move inside. We decicded to leave. We had already paid $10 to park which is a bummer. The waitress was very friendly and even suggested other dog friendly places in the area. read more
