This review is for the outdoor patio area. (Honestly the interior is drab and the carpet is just awful. I would not eat inside even without Covid.) The patio area is lovely. Warm lights and open air tented covered seating arranged around the old pool with a lighted fountain make for a romantic, cozy atmosphere. The staff from the moment we walked in to the end of the evening were all terrific. Our bus staff was super friendly and made the evening more fun. Our server, Anna, took amazing care and made the evening special. We went for a birthday dinner. All four of us ordered opening sparkling wine and appetizers. All were delicious. Chicken livers on excellent toasty bread, a bowl of bean and home made pasta soup, a spinach and a 'Sonoma' salad with fresh crusty bread. We tasted each other's dishes and liked everything. For dinner I had a pizza with excellent spicy sausage and such a rich array of wonderful cheese on a super thin, wood fired crust. We all had some and there was still left over pizza. One of the party had the chicken Parmesan which came with house made tortellini. Really good. Two had the pork medallions with the fluffiest potatoes and fresh asparagus. For dessert we tried the banana cream brûlée and the chocolate cake. Wonderful. And the coffee came with a thick rich cream that was so - creamy goodness. An amazing gem that is worth the hassle it takes going through downtown Sonoma. Set in an old hotel, this place offers an abundance of indoor seating or outdoor seating. We chose the outdoor seating as there was plenty of shade and beauty to behold while eating our meal. We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday. We were pleased by the wait staff (super friendly and attentive). We were never over bothered but also never unattended for long periods. As it was a birthday celebration, we went all out. I started with the prosciutto and pear appetizer and my husband had the Sonoma salad. For mains, I had the roasted chicken while he had the Pestral sole. Both were succulent, flavorful, and well-paired with our choices of beverages. Finally for dessert, the coup de gras, for dessert I chose the tiramisu and he had the Limoncello cake. We delighted in both over a dessert cappuccino. The experience and the food combined made this an absolutely wonderful time for his birthday. We left so full and some content. Really enjoyed this yummy Italian restaurant after a day of wine tastings. This place was definitely filled with large Bachelorette parties. The outdoor seating was lovely around the pool. The service was friendly, quick and efficient. I can't remember our servers name but she was a lovely woman from Sintra Portugal. We ordered a Ceasar salad (with actual anchovies on top), the fettuccine bolognese and tortellini with peas and prosciutto. Both pastas absolutely hit the spot and were decent portions. I got the bolognese for my dinner and felt it tasted like chili, didn't love it. My boyfriend for the tortellini which was very good, creamy. For desert we got the tiramisu and creme brûlée. We came to Depot our first night in Napa and had requested on the reservation to sit outside. Our table was lovely and right against the pool. We ordered the Pork Terrine as a starter as it was not something we had enjoyed before. Our waitress was also nice enough to bring out her favorite appetizer, the Fried Chickpeas. Both appetizers were delicious and I would highly recommend them each. For my entree, I ordered the Tonnarelli, which is a black spaghetti, langoustine, mussels, and clams. This was served with lots of the seafood I mentioned and was very flavorful. My husband ordered the Braised Sonoma Coast Lamb Shank, which was served with white beans, swiss chard, and a jus. Both dishes were very good and we enjoyed them. As far as the wine I ordered a glass of the 2017 La Boatina Pinot Grigio and my husband ordered the 2016 Once & Future Merlot. There was a palatable excitement to seating my wife and I very akin to a sense of "wait until what we have in store for you" the menu is truncated and that is not at all a bad thing because what is done is done exceptionally. Service staff are attentive , exceedingly polite, well versed in the area and the menu from where the food is sourced to in-depth who produces the food; best of all from the perspective of a somewhat curmudgeon they're not at all aloof. Starting with the house wine a superior bottle at that price point can not be found. From appetizer to desert this is a flawless dining experience. Having this local and within walking g distance is all the better. If only the weather tonight would have been less forbidding. Ample parking and barely 1/2 block north of the plaza. We met family in Sonoma on Sunday and decided to have an early lunch at the Depot Hotel Restaurant. This establishment is just a couple of blocks off the main square and provided ample parking both on the street and within their private parking lot. We were immediately greeted ..... and shown to a table which had a great view of a picturesque pool & surroundings. A table outside by the water would have been appealing on a warmer day. I started by ordering a sparkling water and a glass wine from Sonoma Valley (TY CATON MERLOT). Next, I tried the Caesar Salad which included both Truffles and Anchovies - very nice. I backed this up with Rigatoni. The Bolognese sauce consisted of beef, veal and pork Ragu. I concluded the meal with a cup of espresso which was a perfect ending. Three of us agreed that the pan fried scallops we ordered tasted great but we were appalled that for $32, we got three small scallops! The veggies and mashed potatoes were wonderful. We were disappointed in the Caesar salad. Part of the lettuce was quite tough. Unlike another review, we really liked the tiramisu and our friends loved the creme brûlée. Obviously the public hasn't come back quickly to what was once a great neighborhood restaurant. We came here for a little girls trip to Sonoma and had a dinner reservation here. Absolutely stunning inside! I love the lights and outdoor tables with the pool. Our server was very nice and made sure to check up on us every now and then. I tried their bolognese (super delicious) but my favorite was the tortellini because the cheese and filling was so so flavorful! Our table also ordered two reds and their wine made in-house is the best. We also ordered pretty much the whole dessert menu and I really enjoyed the chocolate cake. It's right down the block from the square and pleasant to meander to as the weather begins to cool off. When we got there, we were seated outside and the ambiance was incredible - beautiful outdoor lights, a fountain, etc. A yellow jacket took a liking to our table, which I didn't like all too much. As for the menu, I wish they had more of a variety. I love pasta but most of the dishes in that section seem to have the same sauce...was kind of feeling for a creamy / Alfredo sauce that day. And I assume the portions were a bit small for the meat dishes. I ended up ordering the seafood pasta with bigger noodles rather than penne, and my guest got a steak which was very well cooked! I was pleased that they had a Yelp offer special with a no corkage fee, PERFECT! We rented a house in Sonoma to shelter-in-place and have been exploring all the restaurants in the area. After 4 months, Depot Hotel Restaurant emerged as my hands down favorite. I'm there once a week and have taken all of my visitors there for a social distance dinner in the beautiful courtyard. The open air courtyard is incredibly charming, surrounded by tall trees, pool/fountain in the middle and sparkling lights everywhere. The food is well executed rustic Italian, I personally love the orchard salad, pizza Emiliana and the veal parmesan. Of course, I try to leave room for the tiramisu as this is a place you want to linger and soak in the atmosphere. The staff has always been kind and professional; after 10+ meals there, every experience has been terrific. My highest recommendations without reservation! read more

Decided to go out for a nice dinner for New Year's Eve. Made early reservations at Depot restaurant, walking in the place was beautiful, but it was all downhill from there. We were given menus ordered the calamari appetizer, (which was very good, and the only reason why I gave two stars instead of one). We ordered the Cioppino. 10 minutes later the server came back and said they don't have that tonight. Nobody had printed up the new menus for New Year's Eve. Ordered the pork chops they were out of those and mind you. This was at 5:30 in the evening. My friend ordered the salmon special. The piece of salmon was the size of a credit card and there was a tablespoon of mashed potato smeared on the plate and two carrots. My brother ordered. The polenta with mushrooms came out half a cup of polenta some chicken broth around it and 4 mushrooms that looks like they were a week old and it was like warm! My husband had a spaghetti with prawns. You got a half a cup of spaghetti with saffron butter on it and four prawns that were whole head and body that you had to peel but they gave you no bowl or anything to put the peels in and the prawns were really mushy. Wanted crème brûlée for dessert they were out of that. All in all, it was very expensive for a horrible dining experience.! read more

PERFECTION! We had our dream wedding this past August at The Depot and could not have had a more magical day! Gia & her team made the day flow seamlessly and made it so special. The venue is a one-stop shop (linens, tables, chairs, set-up, staff etc) The plated meal was excellent and the actual venue was a fairytale. It was so romantic and exactly how I envisioned it, candles, flowers and all the fairy lights (half of why we chose it). We wanted an intimate wedding with 85-90 ppl max and it was the perfect setting, outside, fantastic weather and went off without a hitch. Gia and her team were always available to answer questions, beyond organized and truly made wedding planning for the venue very easy. The Depot will forever have a special place in our hearts and I could not recommend it more to all those brides looking for their perfect venue for their perfect day! read more

Me and my wife visited a winery in Sonoma and headed here for lunch on a Sunday. - The food tasted great. I wish they had the sauce for the New York Steak on the side, but it didn't bother me so much. The steak was cooked perfectly (rare). - The service here was above and beyond what I've expected. We've ordered one appetizer dish, and the server split up the dish into two for me and my wife. For some reason, that service made our day. - The ambience got a little loud during our lunch, but that's expected given it was a Sunday lunch. It seemed that there were groups of people after church service. - The view of the garden was beautiful. Overall, I would love to be back. We were celebrating my sons 8th grade graduation and his birthday as well. Let me start off by saying that we are foodies! I personally owned a restaurant for years and I'm a cook as well. Our visit today left a bitter taste in my mouth. The food was awful! Yes. Awful. They brought out a salad with NOTHING on it. No dressing, olive oil, vinegar, salt or pepper! NOTHING! We asked for salt, pepper and olive oil so it could be edible. The cesar salad was even worse. The fishiest dressing I've ever had. They then added a handful of mozzarella cheese right on top! Mozzarella cheese on cesar salad? No thanks! The fish & chips lacked SO much. Soggy and the breading fell right off. We decided to even venture out and look at the dessert menu due to the food. The only thing I enjoyed was our pizza which was pretty awesome. Let's not forget our wonderful server. He was sweet, kind and very polite.
