Great silent disco in the basement, very friendly staff and service, very good place to celebrate something!

I've been attending the burlesque shows here for the past two months and have been coming here to dance for years. The performers are absolutely incredible and clearly put so much time, energy, and heart into what they do. The bartenders have also consistently been awesome, friendly, and welcoming. Unfortunately, my experiences with the door person have become increasingly troubling. On multiple separate occasions, I've noticed a very clear difference in the way he treats me and my more visibly gay, queer, and trans friends compared with straight friends who are standing literally right beside us. The interactions have felt noticeably less welcoming and, at times, openly disrespectful toward queer people. I understand being a door person requires some directness and boundaries, but that should not mean kindness and compassion are thrown out the window. For a bar that serves as an important space for the LGBTQ+ community, this is really disappointing. There aren't many queer-friendly places in this city, and it's frustrating to feel uncomfortable or unwelcome as soon as you enter the building because of the person responsible for greeting people at the door. I really hope management considers providing additional training around LGBTQ+ etiquette, inclusivity, and respectful treatment of guests. I'd also love to see more queer people represented among the staff, particularly at the door, or at minimum see a meaningful change in the way this particular employee interacts with queer patrons. After multiple separate negative experiences, I honestly have been contemplating not returning, which is unfortunate because I genuinely love the performers and have otherwise enjoyed this venue. I'm going to give it one more chance in the future, because I want to support the performers and the queer community here, but I hope things change. If you're queer and you have a bad interaction with an older white man with scraggly facial hair at the door, please know that you're not imagining it or necessarily doing something wrong. My experiences suggest that there is a real issue with the way some queer patrons are being treated. read more

This place used to be so much fun, it's recently become super greedy. A $25 cover? Twenty. Five. Dollars. Just to get in the bar? I'm glad it's a place that can supports the dolls but the drinks are watered down, it's sticky everywhere, and the crowd leans young straight college students who are avoiding all the other rotted and predatory straight bars in Salt Lake. Service upstairs is slower because there's a lot of people ordering, service downstairs moves faster. The staff are kind but whoever is managing this place is out of their mind with the cover charge. read more

Been here a few times and each time it gets worse. Paid $25 cover, only to find the show was sold out. Why weren't we told this at the door as we would have made a different decision? The silent disco seemed to be just a bunch of Mormon kids as no one was drinking or seemed to be having the appropriate amount of fun for a gay bar. The bathrooms were memorable for how dirty they were. Drinks were terrible. Why? should be in the bar's name because you'll leave wondering Why? you even went! read more

Why Kiki is always a good time! I love coming for the silent disco. In my experience, they usually start charging a cover fee ($10 cash or $15 venmo) at 9pm. If there are special events, they start charging earlier. Whenever I want a break from dancing, I head upstairs to watch the drag show. I love that there are so many different vibes depending on where you choose to hang out. They also have a back patio, but I haven't really spent much time out there so I can't really speak on it. They have bars upstairs and downstairs as well! read more

Thank you for the Spectacular show!! Love love The show was themed for FanX super fun. Very energetic, fabulous costumes yummy food and drinks. Before the show some of the performers walk around the tables to greet you. We went to the Saturday night show that started about 8ish. The brunch shows sound like a blast and I'm determined and excited to see a Halloween scary themed show ASAP. I highly recommend you bring your own money, then they will gladly change your large bills into small bills. You need the dollar bills for tips. You can throw the money on to the stage but they will walk through the crowd to pick up the tips. Then you get to see it all up close. I really enjoyed that aspect. Fabulous showmanship all around. After the show you get to enjoy the bar. They have an awesome outdoor seating area. They also had a silent disco downstairs. I always wanted to try one. It was fun I would definitely do it again. They have a free 11pm show that we didn't stay for but I really wish we would have. It was a hectic scene but service was great. Being first timers it was refreshing that they explain everything so well I got all my questions answered. Easy Peezy lemon squeezy. We got loaded fries and a quesadilla. The fries were delicious the quesadilla was over the top. Totally expected a typical thin and cheesy quesadilla. Instead it was well composed, over stuffed with ingredients, cheesy cheesy, dressed perfectly. Thank heavens they give you a fork. I went because someone who worked there really really wanted me to go. I ended up going and it was very distasteful. The drinks were super insanely overpriced (15$ for a drink plus a autopay 20% tip is wild) There were a bunch of 15-17 year olds running around. When I asked the front desk girl about it, she said "well as long as the ID looks real it's fine by us" which is a massive safety and legal liability for everyone there and the owners. The ambience was nice, although the stairs were barely lit and bunch of people were tripping or missing steps and losing their footing. Most likely won't be back. read more

Mixed feelings about this bar. The staff were all delightful and the vibe was nice, and it's obviously very queer friendly. Food was tasty and the silent disco had some great music. It felt a bit scammy though, they charge a 20% service fee automatically on your check which I confirmed goes directly to staff as a tip, but then they'll still ask for a tip on top of that on the iPad. I asked for a shot of Jameson, and when they rung it up they wanted $19 for the one shot. Almost felt like they were trying to take advantage of drunk people who may not be looking closely. Ended up just drinking beer instead all night which were $7/pint for drafts (plus the 20% service fee). Still a good time though but pay attention at the register! read more

ATTENTION!!!! I've been to a bunch of bars in SLC and Why Kiki a bunch. I can say that my most recent experience will be my last. It was the worst experience I've ever had at a bar. Let me give you all the reasons I wouldn't go to Why KiKi and recommend literally any other bar. 1. You don't get your moneys worth and they jip you on the cost and quantity of alcohol you pay for. Way over priced and super diluted. Corporate greed has entered this place for sure. 2. Very dirty and horrible maintenance. You'd think with thee money they make they would clean up... nope they'll just let the floors stay sticky from spilt drinks and leave the bathrooms to reek. 3. I'm a polite guy and I'm willing to put up with a lot, in fact I try to avoid arguments. My buddy got hurt so I left to go check on him. Upon my return at 1:02AM 2 minutes after the time they are not supposed to let customers back in they wouldn't allow me to pass. I tried to explaine to them my predicament and what just took place to see if they could be empathetic. They cut me off wouldn't let me finish and were super rude. They tried to shut me up and kick me out without even trying to see if they could help. I told them that all of my friends were downstairs and I didn't want to just be stuck outside without them. The gentleman told me he didn't care it wasn't his problem so after seeing they were serious I explained I got little to no value from the bar because I had to step outside to take care of my friend so if they could at least give me a refund or a voucher for future entrance that would suffice. This guy who had to be the rudest gentleman I've ever met called me a kid told me I needed thicker skin and pushed me out of the door. I willingly left and told him how frustrated I was with him and he laughed and insulted me. I was so frustrated I went to my car. I then came back 30 minutes later asking to speak with his supervisor and he claimed he was and wouldn't point me in the right direction to make a complaint. Upon returning they mocked me belittled me did not hear me out and told me to leave once more. I hope that if this comment or review somehow gets back to the owner of Why KiKi they seriously consider everything I have said. I am a local entrepreneur in Utah and I want you to know that I would never permit someone like Mike to be an employee at my organization let alone the head of security for my business. I have ever encountered in a business interaction someone so rude and poorly trained. No class, honestly a bully and the reason I will never go back and will insistently tell me friends it's. It worth it. You have lost a customer for life and I will genuinely try and persuade people not to go to you establishment any time it come up in conversation. Just to be clear, it's not about the money, It's only $25 at the end of the day, but the experience and staff were seriously so bad I can't get it out of my mind. I haven't left a bad review for a business in years. This tops the charts. Note for Mike if he reads this. I know you are an older guy which means you probably have a wife and kids. I've learned the way you do one thing is the way you do everything. I feel like you are power hungry. You come across as a bully and you seem to take joy in my loss! I would bet that that's how lots of people around you feel. It wasn't just attitude but an overall personality trait. I truly hope you find a way to be kinder to people and represent the business you work for and yourself better. You costed your business at least a few hundred dollars tonight because I will never be returning and my hope form this review and others I will leave is that other people read this and choose to not go as well. read more

I am from the Bay Area and love a drag queen show once in a while! Visiting Salt Lake City, and wanted to go out on a Saturday. We ordered tickets and got a table. The food is ok... had to get used to always eating while drinking lol the show was fabulous and had a great time. The drinks were sweet so I just started taking shots.. again an Utah law thing... other than that pretty good place to see a show and start the night off. A very groovy spot that I recommend checking out if you're in SLC. We each paid a $10 cover. Service is quicker on the bottom floor, which is where you want to be anyways. I had so much fun with my friend just flipping through the channels and vibing out on our own waves. The only issue was the headphones. It seemed like everyone was having issues with the connection and you had to constantly fiddle with them to make them not sound staticky. The drag show they host here every weekend is a blast! You need tickets to attend, and you can purchase them on their website in advance. You're required to arrive at 11:45 to be seated, and the drag show is from 12-2/2:30ish. The drag queens and burlesque dancers were so much fun and so talented! It was a packed show and the energy was so much fun. There was the perfect amount of interaction with the crowd, some opportunities for audience members to participate and get on stage, and such great energy getting people to cheer for the performers and get the energy up in the room. The servers were nice and attentive even in the midst of the craziness of the show. Each performer (5 performers total) did one song each, some hilarious crowd work, and then there was an intermission. They came back for round two of the show after about 30 minutes and each performed again. The menu is fun and hilarious, and they have quite a few cheeky items on it. They had some vegan items too - I ordered the vegan loco moco which was a beyond patty and rice and a "just egg" scrambled egg and vegan gravy. They also had a vegan waffle option, but I didn't get a chance to try it. The vegan loco moco was good, but nothing to write home about. I probably wouldn't go there for the food alone. The drinks were good, $5 mimosas, $7.50 orange mango maxmosas. We'll definitely be back for another show! read more

Oh my gosh- if you are a even a slight fan of drag this place is a must see. I have been to my fair share of drag shows and was blown away at the performers here! Absolutely incredible and so fun. We went to the dinner + drag show combo. The food wasn't great- next time I'll stick to appetizers! But hey, I didn't come for food! Make sure you bring some cash to be able to tip the performers, but if you don't have any they have a couple ways for you to get cash. Come for the fantastic drag show and great drinks, only order food to stuff down the liquor you are about to consume (or check out the taco lady just up the street for some truly delicious sustenance) because it was just terrible. We came by to celebrate an engagement for a family member, it was her first ever drag show and she LOVED it (she even got pulled up to do a lip sync), all the drag queens/kings did an amazing job during their performance and some awesome crowd work. They even were gracious enough to take some photos after the show. Drinks were delicious, though I got sent the wrong drinks twice, everything was extremely drinkable ;) We ordered the chicks n dicks and loaded fries around the 3rd act, and by the time there were only two acts left (it still hadn't been brought by) that's when our waitress noticed she sent it to another table. When we finally got our food right as the show closed, everything was cold (like they just pulled it from the fridge and slapped on to a plate), it was quite inedible. We picked off bits and finally gave up and got fast food on the way home after finishing our drinks. Next time I will probably just eat dinner before and forgo their menu items. read more

The drag queens here know how to make people feel welcome and ensure that they have a good time. I went here both during the jog and for brunch and both were great experiences. There's Solent disco downstairs which is great because you can jam out to whatever you want at the moment and switch up the music when you want as well. During brunch, the drag queens were very entertaining. They are amazing performers and are also the sweetest people ever. We got to take pictures with all of them after the show and talk with them as well. Although the food for brunch was very forgettable and dry, the show made up for it. Came here for the Crowdsourced Comedy show with a friend on a Friday evening. Tickets weren't very expensive at all. Didn't get any drinks unfortunately, but got some gyoza and their version of a blooming onion. The sauce for the blooming onion was pretty oily, and didn't have great flavor, but it was fried to perfection. The gyoza was delightful though! Next time I stop here I want to try some of their cocktails as all the ones coming from the bar looked gorgeous. Our server was super kind and the show itself was hilarious! There's another new bar in town, and it's located across from the convention center and 2 doors down from Varley. I'm in love with the name and you'll definitely feel the Hawaiian vibes when you see this place. I had so much fun here last Saturday. I arrived about an hour before last call, so I didn't get to see the pop up drag performances but I'll definitely make sure to check out their Instagram so I can plan accordingly next time. They've also got a back patio that I had no clue about and serve brunch, so I NEED to come back. While I was here, I tried a passion fruit concoction the bartender whipped up and danced my ass off to the awesome mix the dj was playing. Why Kiki is a fun club for 20-something year olds but it's a pretty pricey one, in my opinion. There's a cover charge of $15 which isn't bad but something to be aware of - they prefer that you pay the cover charge with cash. The club itself is fine - I didn't feel like there was anything remarkable about it but I also wasn't mad at it. It's weirdly difficult to navigate. The bathrooms are way too small for the size of the club but are well kept. There's a stage area next to the bar on the main floor that had drag performances when I was there. I didn't know it was there because it's kind of hidden behind a wall and I stumbled into the performance area by accident. The silent disco downstairs is really fun, but I don't know if that's because of Why Kiki or if I just like silent discos. Why Kiki is definitely for a younger audience - I saw lots of college age looking people and everyone seemed fairly young, the majority were probably in their 20s. The drinks I ordered were good, however, I was shocked at how much my tab was at the end of the night. I ordered 2 cocktails and 5 shots and it cost me $90. That was actually appalling to me, I still can't believe it cost that much. That makes each shot $10 and each cocktail $20, which is kind of insane to me. $10 for a single shot is just too much in my opinion. I didn't see prices listed anywhere so I didn't realize how much they were until I closed my tab. Service was good and quick but I sometimes felt rushed trying to order a drink. Granted, I went on Friday night and it was pretty packed, so it wasn't surprising that they were trying to get drinks ordered and out as quickly as possible. read more

The atmosphere is great, the decor beautiful. I came here for my birthday with friends. Shoutout to the doorman for getting us in for brunch since the tickets sold out very early in the week! They get 5 stars. The rest is very disappointing. I had been there once before for the improv comedy, and had the same issue where my $15 plate somehow became almost $30. I got the same server again from that time, and my tab was at most $70, but I got hit with a $49 "back of the house" autograt for parties of 6 or more. What a load! And on top of that, I still needed to tip my server, and tip the drag queens with cash. No one was told about the autograt, at all, and I ended up paying $120 total for a $20 entry, the $35 champagne bucket, and one $15 chicks and dicks, plus the autograt and tip on top of all that. The waiter kept trying to explain how it worked (he didn't do a good job, and seemed to be drunk) and tried to say I didn't pay the full autograt, but given it was "20%" the math doesn't add up. My friends ordered the same things and the only difference was I got the Bucket. They paid $47 each with tip. They wouldn't take the autograt off, so this has left a very poor taste in my mouth. My server didn't want to split the check initially, and barely did much besides take our order, but I get the dude has to make a living. I've decided not to come back, which is disappointing given I love their silent Disco. It's too much that it's the second time my bill has doubled. I recommend going elsewhere, and heed the poor reviews. Owners, fix the issues with the overcharging. read more

A group of us bought tickets in advanced for Why Kiki. It was an absolute BLAST! The entertainment was so fun and interactive. I loved that the performers came up to our table and personally introduced themselves, talked for a bit, and thanked us for coming. I feel like this place has a bunch of bad reviews which confused me because I had a great time with my family here. It was my first drag show and I loved it!! Such good vibes, the girls were so funny and very friendly. The food was okay, it kinda upset my stomach but I'm not a big breakfast fan anyway. The drinks on the other hand were so good and creative I loved the names for all the food/drinks items. Our waiter was a guy, I forgot his name but he was also very nice. The bathrooms are gender neutral which I loved, wish we had more all around Utah! I definitely think if you're not a pain in the a$$ they wouldn't be a pain to you hahaha. The decor is cute, bartenders were all very professional and fast. I didn't try the food. Their lip sync karaoke on Thursday nights is always so entertaining. Everyone here is so fun and accepting. The food is very good and the drinks are even better. The food and drinks are very good. The only downside is one of the bartenders, when paying cash, will keep tips without you choosing what you give. I prefer paying card for this reason. read more

A girlfriend and I came here for a kiki last week after work to check out this new place! We arrived as soon as they opened so we were the only ones there. We had fun regardless. The staff was friendly and engaged in conversation with us to let us know about the place and happenings on the weekend. The music was fun and we felt like dancing. I love how many cocktails they have and I think I'll make it a goal to try to them all ;) They have several rooms along a hall, but I'm not sure if they're for special use or open to all for lounging. They do have a smaller back patio area with some umbrellas, tables, and patio furniture. Also, jenga! My only complaint is they failed to put glitter in my friend's mermaid water cocktail as the menu stated :P We will be back! read more

My team and I attended DRAG BRUNCH and it was the best experience! Their Queens put on the best show I've ever seen! The staff was very attentive and welcoming. Make sure to get there on time to have enough time to get your food and drink orders in before the show start. The Queens came to our table and introduced themselves to us before the show and They even remembered all of our names after the show! Their Drag Brunch is a must go to! We went to Sunday brunch and had a marvelous time! We ordered the margarita and the passion fruit mojito to drink. To eat we had the McDicken, Seymour Dicks platter and the Loco Moto (which is gluten free). All were delicious. Our server, Amy, was amazing and attentive. The show was incredible. It was really spectacular to meet the queens before the show, and have them come through the aisles during the show. It was a great way to spend a Sunday. read more
