Told my husband I wanted a really good steak, he suggested The Derby. We both grew up in Arcadia, I'd only been once 28 years ago and he only to the bar. Now I don't know why we haven't been going because wow, it was delicious! The 8oz bacon wrapped filet was perfection, melt in your mouth! Finally made it to The Derby! I've heard so much about this spot over the years since we moved here. Came in for a quick happy hour with the always lovely Yelp rockstar Nikki B and had a great experience! My friend had an Iceman martini and loved it. I had a hot English Breakfast tea, British style with cream and it was very yummy! I know it's not a typical happy hour drink but it's just what I needed. The tea pot looks small but it filled my mug twice - it was more than ample and stayed perfectly hot for over an hour! We didn't order any food but we did gobble up the garlic bread they provide and it was fantastic!! Might have been some of the best garlic bread I've had! The staff were all absolutely warm and welcoming and very attentive. The vibe is upscale and cozy - felt very elegant but still relaxed. They offer free valet parking but you can also self park in the back of the lot. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and will definitely be back to try more happy hour items! read more

Wife & I were having conversation as to why we after living & eating in this area for a long time never heard talk of the Derby. We found out this evening, ambiance was great pulling us into a world that we felt like we mite not belong but felt unsettled at the same time. Bacon wrapped dates , rosemary chicken was good the downfall was the fillet. My wife loves fillet never hearing disappointment from her when devouring one. It was rare, parts uncooked & a surprise toothpick hidden inside the steak. Not thru the top of the steak but as though someone deliberately hid the toothpick inside. Fillet it was not, this disgusting piece of meat was inedible leaving the waitress surprised when refusing a to go container for the mostly uneaten rancid cut of whatever this was. Spent $138 the night before at Clearman's Northwoods & left fat & happy. Fillet mignon, rosemary chicken, ice tea, & a Diet Coke $160. No thanks never again. read more

My husband had the garlic mashed potatoes and a side of veggies as well. We did split a side of green beans. For dessert our server brought out a Baked Alaska with 151 on the bottom and top of the cake. We never had it before and it was delicious. This place is a must for a good steak house dinner. Huge cuts and never disappoints. I had the asparagus side and they were ginormous, I was SO pleased. We celebrated my daughters birthday at The Derby. This place takes you back in time. It's fine dining with ambience as well. I requested a table next to the fireplace making it warm & cozy for us four. They greeted my daughter and wished her a Happy Birthday. The table was set beautifully with a card saying Happy Birthday. The service is impeccable! The prime rib was prepared beautifully and the steak was perfect as well. We agreed one of the best meals we ever had. I had an epic dinner here at the Derby recently. I grew up here in the San Gabriel Valley as a teenager next door in Pasadena. I passed by The Derby millions of times but had never went in. Recently, I had read stories about the place closing. Then I read stories about the place closing an being relocated. I just decided, I needed to check this place out before whatever changes were in the pipeline. Sounds like it's a proposal to relocate to a new building but with all the existing material and decor but now that's all on hold. Regardless, I told myself that I must come here for dinner next time I was in town. This is a restaurant I've taken for granted thinking it would always be around. So glad I came. The experience was epic! I came with a long time buddy of mine who's a horse jumper and since this restaurant has a horse theme, I knew he'd appreciate it. Just walking in to this place is an experience in and of it's self. There is so much history tied up in this building. Neat to see all of the notable events from the Santa Anita Race Track nearby throughout the past half century. The interior is totally my style. I love the large, comfortable booths with soft seating and the soft lighting of the interior. Next time I come, I'm going to bring a special ladyfriend on a date instead of my buddy who rides horses! My waitress Nicole was amazing as well as her colleague who's name I'm embarrassed that I forgot his name. Once I find my receipt, I'll come back an edit and include his name. I had came during a shift change which explains the two different waiters. She helped guide me on the selections of appetizers, main course and desserts. My drink at a steakhouse is almost always a Long Island Iced Tea which they made very well. Nicole talked me in to trying their Old Fashion and my goodness, it was a taste of heaven in a glass! For my appetizer, I had their chilled shrimp cocktail which could have been a stand alone meal on it's own. It was tangy & absolutely delicious. So delicious, I just had to go for seconds. I ordered the ribeye (medium-rare) and loaded baked potato for my main dish. The meat was so tender, flavorful and it cut like butter. Definitely one of the best steaks I've eaten at a restaurant. For dessert, I had their cheesecake that was just the way I like it - thick & creamy. It was just as amazing as my other dishes. The Derby is now on my rotation of must visit restaurants when I'm in southern California. Like their hundreds of loyal customers that's been coming for decades, I hope they stay put but if they do relocate, they will still be amazing regardless. read more

First time dining at The Derby in Arcadia and I would say if you are looking for a spot for a friends meet up or a date night this is great for a weekend dinner. Friday night was very busy, and we sat in the bar area at a table. Ordered a lemon drop and an ice man with blue cheese olives. Lemon drop 5/10 and Iceman was a 9/10. The cheese-bread they serve was really good. Asked for 2 rounds. The Dine La menu was $65.00 a person and I believe it was worth it if you are a first timer. What was ordered French onion soup 9/10, bacon wrapped filet (didn't care for it, I asked for no bacon and the whole steak smelled like bacon still) baked potato 8/10. Also, choose the chocolate cake, tasted like a grocery store bought dessert that was overly sweet. The server was really busy, and actually was not a great server. We flagged her down about 9 times. The reason for the 4 stars was the ambiance and old school vintage ambiance I love. I would come back for a drink, French onion soup and the bread only. read more
