Ordered the Centennial 3 course meal. Food is consistently on par. Ordered my ribeye medium rare and arrived medium rare with a nice char on the surface. Prime rib was so very tender and delicious. Sides are just as good. Both the desserts were a bit disappointing. The tuxedo mousse cake was moist but didn't need all that extra chocolate syrup. The cheesecake was good by itself and again didn't need the strawberry syrup, in fact it tasted like cough syrup. Service was amazing. The server was tentative, especially being a large group. He was able to accurately serve everyone the right order without having to ask who ordered what, and was quick to bring any drinks. Definitely a fancy dining spot. Low lighting, lots of horse racing decor, homey feeling. Great spot for date nights or celebrations. On the pricey side but worth it. read more

Today my wife and I went to The Derby to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary also it's our first time at the historic Derby restaurant. The restaurant has rich traditions in horse racing and also the glory days of the Santa Anita Race track not far from the restaurant. I made reservations for our day I know the Derby is very popular restaurant and serving high quality meals and drinks that's a true tradition restaurant with 100 years of pure quality services. We got Valet parking then we went in the restaurant. We went to the hostess and ask we have reservation she found our name then waited foe couples minutes then host came take us to our table. The table was ready and also a Happy Anniversary card that was so nice then he hand us the menu. We order our drink then we look the menu what order the menu was very impressed. We decided to get the Dine L.A. three course menu for $65 per person. My wife order the shrimp cocktail and the surf and turf and dessert the bread pudding. I decided to get the French onion soup then the George Woolf prime rib and dessert the blueberry pie tini. Our drink arrived my wife order the pomegranate martini and I got the Seabuscuit it's a old fashion. They were so good and the waiter brought cheese brought it was so good.then our appetizers my wife shimp cocktail was really nice three big shrimps I have the French onion soup it was heavenly good I really enjoy it especially the cheese it add so much flavor in the soup. We both enjoy our appetizers very much then they brought our meal. My16oz prime rib looks so good my wife surf n turf looks better. The prime rib was cook perfectlyva medium rare that brought the natural juices of the menu perfection I really enjoy it comes with vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes they so good they great cooks and chef know how to prepare a good heartily meal. The Derby celebrates 100 years of business, history and preserving traditional continental cuisine and American classics. You'll be hard pressed to find a better french onion soup... I know there are a few better out there, but they're few and far between. The service is what I would expect if I were dining out in the Sinatra era, very polite and proper, but with a cool vibe. Barbara took care of us on this visit, and she made sure we were well fed and properly hydrated. She's a veteran of this place and it shows - happy to share stories of the jockeys or the restaurant's history. My ribeye was cooked perfectly, and I love the way the servers mash the inside of your baked potato for you. They even let you lick the forks if you're into that sort of thing. Lol The barrel aged old fashioned made with four roses bourbon was the perfect palate cleanser. Our tableside baked alaska was classic Americana - flambé and all. This dinner is an experience in nostalgia and cuisine. If you call yourself a foodie and love to be treated well... This is a must in your rotation. read more

Extremely poor customer service. They do not treat you like a customer, they view everyone as a potential upsell. They make you provide a cell phone number which is an invasion of privacy and rude just to be seated at a table. I got three unwanted marketing texts from the restaurant since my dinner there last night. It ruined the dining experience and I will not be going back. Standards have fallen. No wonder this place is being torn down soon. read more

Last night went to Deby for dinner with my parents to enjoy the DineLA. Overall, the food quality is great. Onion soup is a bit salty to the senior but I think it is fine. We all love the steaks (2x filet mignon and 2 ribeyes). It cooked perfectly as we expected. Desserts are all a bit sweet to us but they are still delicious. We had a great waiter who always checked on us frequently and gave us some of his suggestions. It was a very hot evening and we sat in the patio area, unfortunately, many tiny bugs bitten my mom's arm. The manager gave her some ice to soothe the itchy. Staffs are helpful and nice. We will return to Derby but wish to sit indoors on our next visit. read more

With the line to get into the place and find a seat and reservations unavailable I expected the food to be five star and that Best it was three star. What made this a 4 Star Pl. was the service. Got there on the dot for a 7:30 pm dinner reservation. Complimentary valet (tip if you have class and etiquete) we chose to self park just to get a good lay of the land as it was our first time there and sadly had no cash to tip, lesson learned. Our table wasn't quite ready which was perfect because we wanted to check out the bar area. Very nice and open! The decor wasn't too busy but still a nod to that old school charm. We had a couple of drinks and table was ready as we closed out. We both had another couple drinks off the signature menu and chose to have the pre fixe dinner. We both had the bacon wrapped filet mignon and if you ask for it medium well they butterfly it, I got mine medium both we juicy, tender and perfect size. I went there for Dine LA lunch. According to the manual Dine LA THREE- COURSE LUNCH MANUAL $35 PER PERSON. It turns out, the $35 only has two-couse. You have to pay $12 extra in order to be three-course. From the way that manual printed, it is very mislead customers. Please look the attachment of a picture of manual. I didn't noticed that until I got the bill. It turned out we had to pay $32 more for two people's dessert! The dessert was too big of portion. It would be great if we knew that we would just order one. I even told the waiter that we would stick on the Dine LA $35 per person manual. I wish that he would told us that the dessert is extra. The clam chowder is great. The salmon is good, the wild rice is under cooked. It is not done in the center. The mash potato is very creamy. The prime rib is very salty. The chocolate cake is big portion and top layer dark chocolate very tasty. The cheese cake is very salty. I don't know why did it not taste sweet but salty? It is very salty. I finished my lunch before 1pm and I still feel thirsty after almost 8 hours. I had drank almost 3 litter of water by now! The service is great. Waiters are very polite and attended. But the mislead manual makes me can't return. The black paper box container also not well build. The paper container for the prime rib French dip sauce has holes on the cover. The bag has the dipping sauce all over the bags and on the black boxes. I had to clean them after I got home!! read more

Our first visit to The Derby was fantastic. Luciano, our waiter, was attentive and respectful, making sure we had a great dining experience. We came as a family of four and ordered the $65 three-course meal. The filet mignon, the Arcadian, and the prime rib were all cooked to perfection. Then I ordered the Cesar salad. I always feel that even though this is a simple salad, most people, including restaurants, have no idea how to make it. The Derby's Cesar salad was delectable! Pan seared scallop pasta. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the spinach pesto pasta had great flavor and was not overly salty. I also want to commend the staff. The Derby - Almost to the Winner's Circle! Every December, my work team and I suit up for a night of old-school LA steakhouse magic, and this year, The Derby had the honor of being at the gate. And let me tell you--when it comes to steak, sides, and classic charm, they came out strong! The food? Plentiful and delicious. We had our reservations locked in months before Christmas, and every bite was worth the wait. Sure, the service was a little on the slow side, but it was right before Christmas, and the place was packed, so we were happy to sip our drinks and enjoy the company. Now, here's where things took a stumble at the final turn--just as I was paying the bill (literally mid-dessert), a manager came over and asked us to hurry up because they had another party waiting for the table. I get that restaurants overbook and the kitchen was running behind, but let's be real--you can only eat as fast as the food arrives. When I pointed out I was paying at that very moment, the manager quickly backtracked with an awkward "oh, never mind." Look, Derby--your food is a champion, but if you want guests to cross the finish line with a smile, a little more grace in handling table turnover would go a long way. I'd love to come back on a non-holiday night to see if things run smoother, but next December, my team and I will be betting on a different horse. We tried almost everything on the dinner menu for DineLa! My recommendation would be the prime rib, Brussels sprouts, and cheesecake. My husband like the ribeye but I found it kind of lacking in flavor. The prime rib had the best taste. My favorite dessert was the cheesecake. My brother in law doesn't like cheesecake so he preferred the tuxedo mousse cake. You can't really go wrong with any of the choices. I enjoyed the atmosphere. It was really romantic for dinner.
