The walkways and grounds are incredibly well kept and the paths are very navigable. While we unfortunately did not see any wildlife besides one or two birds, the relaxing atmosphere at the Great Swamp still made for an enjoyable afternoon to get some outdoor exercise in. One of my favorite parts was that there are viewing platforms with blinds so that you can spot wildlife, without it spotting you. After speaking to the rangers on the way out, we will opt to come back either at dusk or dawn next time for optimal wildlife viewing!

This tunnel is a pretty tight drive as you pass through in your vehicle. As I said, this tunnel will stay within your memories as part of South Amboy, New Jersey. I lived in South Amboy, New Jersey and grew up in Central New Jersey, which many claim that central New Jersey does not exist. I disagree. Central New Jersey certainly is a place. It is not the more rural south Jersey nor claim Philadelphia as their city, nor is it directly in the shadow of Manhattan (though here is within the shadow of Staten Island, New York). This "hole-in-the-wall" is part of the landscape of my memories and I am better for having driven through it (definitely a better driver). Again, these little quirks will forever stay within you no matter if your life journey took you far from South Amboy, New Jersey. It is perhaps more poignant will you remember something as seemingly inconsequential as a narrow bridge as a part of a community that you fondly cherish. I remember this "hole-in-the-wall" and smile at its memory.

Once you've got your marshmallow supplies you can head over to the campfire area where they have the firepit roaring and ready for roasting. But if you are visiting, you are likely here to get a Christmas tree! You can cut down your own or get a pre-cut tree. Cut your own is $125 and pre-cut is $125 for small, $155 for medium and $175 for large. We got a medium tree and we're super happy with it! When my kids are older I think they'll love coming back to cut their own. This is a great place to go for some holiday fun, and I loved that there were things for the kids besides the trees. Prices are definitely a bit steeper than other places around, but I think it's worth it for the cute holiday experience.

The fairs in this town have never disappointed me, and it's still just as good as before. I also never had an issue with parking for the fair, which was a huge plus. This fair was located in the heart of downtown Westfield. Numerous tents set up by vendors were everywhere, selling various items from arts and crafts and sports memorabilia to home improvement and pet-sitting services. Non-profit organizations were also there to collect donations. A stage was also set up for local music performances and karate demonstrations. Let's not forget about the food vendors. Not only were there vendors in tents, but there were also those set up in their own food trucks. Various food items were sold at this event. Items such as gyros, fried Oreos, funnel cakes, and fried chicken were available from those vendors to the people who waited in long lines. Fresh squeezed lemonade and ICEEs were sold there too. The fact that I didn't smell oil used for frying from the vendors was a HUGE plus. Some businesses had also set up their own tents in front of their stores so they could sell some of their merchandise. That merchandise ranged from shoes to clothing. Nothing from there appealed to me, but it was nice to see what was on display. Those businesses picked a good day and time to set up an outdoor sale in front of their shops. How can you not love free samples? Bovella's Bake Shoppe was outside of their own store and gave away free samples of their cake. It was delicious! Also, 92.3 AMP FM was there and gave away free packets of FruitVines Bites Cherry-Flavored Candy. That was also good. Overall, these fairs are always as good as it gets!

We got the: - Greek Loukaniko - grilled sausage with bread - 5 Pack Pork Souvlaki - skewered pork kebabs with bread - Greek fries - fries with salt and oregano - Loukoumades Krispy puffs generously coated with honey and sprinkled with cinnamon and sesame seeds The Loukaniko and Pork Souvlaki were both wonderfully seasoned and beautifully charred. It looked like a lot of meat, but the bright lemon flavor shone through making the dishes easy to eat. The Loukaniko had a hint of sweetness and a distinct spice blend that I haven't had outside Greek cuisine. The crisp char on the Souvlaki was the first texture and flavor I noticed. The pieces of pork were juicy and generous. These two flavorful grilled meats were easily my favorite items that we ordered. The bread they came with was soft and nice to have but nothing special. The Fries were reminiscent of cafeteria fries, but these were slightly limp. They had decent flavor and did a good job accompanying the rest of the meal. I wouldn't eat them without other food. Going all the way around is also well worth it to fully grasp the size of the rock house. More recent additions to the site, as compared to the 3000 year old rock house, include an informational plaque, two chairs and a small table, and a trailhead with signage leading to Mount Tabor. This is located at the dead-end of a street in a neighborhood and street parking is available.

The Parsippany N.J. Rock House is a 3,000 year old Native American shelter. It is constructed by a…read moreseries of glacial boulders deposited during the last ice age 10,000 years ago. Evidence of human habitation extends back to 1259 BC and persists to the 1500's when it was used by the Lenne Lenape. What makes the Rock House particularly interesting are the petroglyphs itched into the the rock between 500 BC-500 AD. These petroglyphs are but a few ever found in New Jersey. I was able to find some petroglyphs on the southeast side of the structure. They are not easy to find. I'll be going back to attempt to find more petroglyphs in the near future.

New Jersey has been called the Crossroads of the American Revolution and Morristown was definitely a key community in America's fight for independence. Morristown was the winter headquarters for General George Washington and the Continental Army for I believe two winters. New Jersey has also been called the Crossroads of the American Revolution and Morristown itself has been called the military capital of the American Revolution because off its strategic role between Philadelphia and New York City. It was during Washington and the Continental Army's second stay in Morristown that Washington declared St. Patrick's Day a national holiday. Morristown also had the first seeing eye guide dogs school in the United States. Morristown is also a viable community with plenty of dining locations and shopping options. Morristown has a lot going for it and I would definitely recommend a visit here.
