Billed as a dive bar, this place feels anything but. The staff are all super friendly and the patio is dog friendly! While seated outside, two different staff brought out water for our puppy and the service was quick. The beer list is a little limited, but good selection for what it is and the food is tasty. 3.5 Stars Located in the upstairs portion of the cool brownstone building that used to house Chocolate City Brewery, The Dew Drop Inn boasts what has to be the widest bar in DC. While it only has around 12 seats, there is enough room behind it to put on theatrical performances (no, really!). There are 12 draft lines, although when I stopped by mid-winter they seemed to be a bit out of touch with the season and had a lot of lighter, summertime fare such Hellbender Kolsch on tap (where were the porters and stouts?) As for food, there's an extensive sandwich menu that included Beef on Weck and Carolina Pulled Pork. It's dark, and like it's sister bar, the Wonderland in Colombia Heights, the walls are covered with old DC signage. Owner Matthew McGovern has plans to expand into the former brewery space below, but there was no timeline. A decent, low-key option if you're in the neighborhood or just finishing up a ride on the Metropolitan Branch Trail. read more

I have to agree with other Yelpers on this- I hesitate to sing its praises because I fear it will become overrun, but it definitely deserves the praise. Dew Drop Inn retains some of the warehousey vibe of Chocolate City Brewery, the former occupant, and is a perfect place to hole up in a dark, warm space with a good beer and good friend. The food menu could be more elaborate, but A for ambience. Their beer and liquor selection is great, and the DJ on weekend nights is perfect. I haven't seen it crowded yet and the outdoor patio is surely one of DC's best. I look forward to the day they fix up the ground floor as well, but until then it will retain its place as a good bar for locals that like good bars. read more

Great little out of the way neighborhood bar in the Brookland area, just a 10 minute walk from the Brookland/Catholic U metro stop. I've always wanted to see the upstairs of this funky building when we had access downstairs to Chocolate City Brewery before it went belly-up. Nicely done inside. Good vibe with the waitstaff. Kitchen offers bar food, but we weren't here for that. Good happy hour specials here at the DDI every night. Tonight DJ was spinning tunes and mixing. Right off the Metropolitan Branch bike trail (yes, there is plenty o' bike parking) so I'll always have the opportunity to pop in for a pint on my bike commute home. Decent craft beer selection and cool decor, but don't expect too much in the way of service here. We sat inside and once we got someone to take our order--tried to flag someone down at the bar to no avail--grabbed a couple of sandwiches (also pretty decent) to eat with our beers, but it took a good 5 minutes to get someones attention (both at the bar and then when I gave up and went back to our table). When we got our bill, I couldn't help but think that this place is a classic example of the left hand not knowing what the right is doing--happy hour prices were advertised for the entire night but we were charged full price on our drinks. Not a huge deal but it left a bad taste in our mouths and we won't be back, sadly. I hope they work out the kinks because this could really be a cool place. read more

Dew Drop is a hidden dive bar gem in the Brookland area at the start of the metropolitan branch trail. The crowd varies and it's a good thing. The price and selection is good and the location is off the beaten path far from the more well known neighborhoods of Bloomingdales, Shaw, Adams Morgan, and Columbia Heights. read more

Disclaimer: I don't live in this neighborhood and wouldn't be able to frequent this establishment anyway. This place could be so good. It's in a former brewery and they have great beers on tap. Maybe I went in an 'off' night. I went around 1 am on a Saturday night and 90% of the crowd looked like underage Catholic students. The dj scratched top 40 hits at a dangerously high volume for it being a brick-walled place. The staff was a bit rude when my friend asked if she could have water, despite already having bought two rounds of Fat Tire. This indicated to me that they often have a young crowd. read more

The wifey and I live in Brookland and are happy to see the many new establishments up here in the country. We are REALLY pleased about the Dew Drop Inn because it is just great. When you arrive at Dewdrop, make sure your expectations are in check. This is an awesome neighborhood bar to drop into with the convenience of the Met Branch trail along side. It's also yet one more interesting thing to do in Brookland. There are plenty of beers to choose from with all the local favorites. Annoyingly, there is a jukebox that is broken. We ordered a couple of the plates which consist of cheese salami and pretzels heated up nicely. We did not try any of the big entrées so can't judge them. Service was very pleasant and attentive and the atmosphere of this place is a lot of fun love the outdoors is basically just picnic tables with a view of the street. read more

Dew Drop used to be really cool. They had a lot of interesting music and a lot of cool artists and creative types would have parties there. The Flaming Lips actually hung out there once, Ted Zook would jam there a lot, Weyes Blood played there, but last time I went, it was full of normies and bros, people were watching football and I realized they were just catering to the rapidly gentrifying neighborhoods. They cancelled a bunch of touring bands' shows suddenly and the cool bartender who booked there left and we got bombarded with emails from bands on tour needing last minute shows :( Not that this should stop you from enjoying a heffeweissen with your coworker on their amazing patio. If Dew Drop reads this and decides to get cool again, I will write a retraction and give 5 stars and buy them all a salad read more

An actual dive bar. This isn't the place that claims to be a dive bar to get hipsters to come. This is under a bridge beside railroad tracks. Great large patio and a surprisingly good beer selection. The food is run of the mill bar food but exactly what you would expect. If you want dark and divey, this is your place. I haven't been in the summertime, but the large patio looks sweet. The food is unhealthy, but cheap and tasty. I had to bring down my 5-star rating for one reason: the music. I keep getting updates on Facebook about DJs and events, and they are just a little too eclectic for my taste. Stopped by here after a performance at Dance Place. It is in kind of a remote location near a storage facility.The entrance is a bit weird. You have to go up a narrow staircase. I thought wow, I have discovered a really cool place, but honestly it was just a bar! They had some nice posters on the wall but that's all! No special interesting drinks. They had a band playing but they were just a boring cover band, nothing alternative or cool. Not too many people there given it was Friday! I guess people don't party in Brookland? Best bar. I had my wedding reception in their new event space on the first floor and it was wonderful. Great food (made by Dew Drop), great drinks, and a big space that left more than enough room for tables, a photo booth and lots of room in the middle for dancing. There's also an outdoor space our guests could use, which worked well as a space for people who wanted a break from the music and dancing inside. It was exactly what we wanted. Matt (the manager we worked with) was just great throughout the whole process, really helpful and flexible with changes we needed to make, decorations, etc. If you're looking for a space for a wedding party and aren't into traditional spaces, I HIGHLY recommend the Dew Drop. I'd definitely reserve their space for another event in the future. read more

Spins on the 1's and 2's. The DJ at Dew Drop Inn was awesome last weekend. I dropped by the bar on Saturday night. They have guest DJs that come in every once in a while. It's great to have a diverse offering of music. As for the bar itself, it's very spacious and nicely decorate with vintage goods and posters. My favorite was the signed Spice Girls poster in the back of the bar. Hilarious. They must be back for a reunion! Another ah-mazing poster was this great replica of the London subway map, but instead of stations, they had bands and their influences. Cool graphic. In the summer and warmer months, hang out on their wooden outdoor deck. Would be a great place to chill and sit for a while. The drinks were a bit on the expensive side. I had a Belgian Delirium tremens beer (the beer with the elephant on it). and a 16 oz was $11! Next time I'll see if the other drinks are cheaper. My pal got the blueberry beer Wild Blue, also in a bottle. They serve smoothies and sandwiches, too. Buy your sandwiches early; by the end of the night they will probably be soggy and too old. The location of this bar is hidden in a quiet NE neighborhood, where there are no other bars around. But it's fairly close to Gallaudet and Catholic U. read more

This place is the best! The bar is huge and the space for musicians to play is larger than dc9 haha. We saw a band play that had maybe 8 members including a huge xylophone that made it up there. One of the only ACTUAL dive bars in DC (i.e. not a dimly lit place that's super popular and serves $8 beers). It has a nice outdoor space, a pretty limited menu (the nachos are solid), and usually isn't too crowded. Very divey atmosphere and a couple dartboards if you're so inclined. read more

As you might expect from the folks behind Wonderland and Looking Glass, this is an awesome, friendly, chill neighborhood-y bar. It's in an interesting location near railroad tracks, in a cool old building. Apparently the area is called Edgewood -- I'd never been there before. They have lots of good beer on tap, friendly staff, tasty grub and a nice, big patio. Definitely worth a stop if you're around. read more

This is a very great local bar. We only decided to go out for a few drinks that night, so venturing to the obscure yet amazingly beautiful Dew Drop Inn was perfect. Getting there is a little interesting, then arriving and figuring gout where the front entrance is is another adventure. The place as a great patio outside for the warmer winter nights. There are typical DC dive prices, $6 brews...a bout 8 on tap. there's also random shot specials everywhere. anything that involves mystery or weird names always gets me.. we got $4 shots in the dark.. u don't know what's in the bottle and it's always changing. On Saturday it was whiskey, and a good kind too! there's a live band so the place gets kinda loud when they are playing. This bar has a great vib, super spacious, affordable and so much charm. The place is millennial heaven--if you're into that. You get the good and the bad of that: it has a nice, mellow vibe, one where you would feel like you're upsetting the atmosphere by complaining about the service because the staff are relaxed and polite. But don't expect them to give you good service or convey a sense of pride or responsibility about their work. They made multiple mistakes on my order; nothing earth-shattering about that, and they eventually fixed it, but only after I raised the issue more than once. I got the distinct sense that they consider themselves to be doing customers a favor by existing rather than the other way around. The running group I'm in stopped here for what we call the "On-After". It has a definite dive-bar quality, and those who know me know that I say that in the most absolute fondest way (...except for the Golden Tee in Carlsbad, which will forever remain in my bad-books...ef that place!) They have great beer on draught and HOLY CRAP the best damn roast-beef sammy I've ever had at a dive bar! As stated in my Golden Tee blast years ago, I realize that people who frequent dive bars do not generally stop to see what kind of Yelp reviews the place has first. That being said, the reason I actually am taking the time to write about it is because the playlist they were playing was freakin' awesome!
