After checking good reviews, our group of 6 walked in to have a few drinks. The only bartender in the place, said loudly, "I'm only doing one tab for you guys, or you don't get served! This is a pretty good example of a traditional Seattle-style urban dive. They've managed to not be displaced or replaced somehow, like so many others. We hit the joint early on a Saturday night, and they were very busy. Despite the mayhem, the staff was efficient and professional. The drinks are priced midland-to-high, but the pours are solid and the service is fast. There are rumors of food, but I wouldn't go there. Seattle has physically outgrown bars of this kind; it's a small room for a downtown bar and can quickly become standing room only. But it feels good, woody, gritty. A party room in the back can be reserved for larger groups. I like it! Recommended-but if you want to sit down, don't visit during prime party hours. read more

We visit Justin specifically on Tuesday nights at the Diller Room, which is when he makes specialty cocktails that are typically tiki or tiki-adjacent. They are always delicious and complex, skillfully crafted, and experimental-- yet unpretentious. Have been here a number of times. From a cocktail bar of this caliber I expect an Old Fashioned to not start with a glass stuffed full of regular cubes. Also, the bouncer was chastising the guy next to me for saying "Stella!" When I told him that was me he chilled out. It was odd- maybe they were looking for a reason to 86 the guy. He seemed fine to me. If you are going to be a cocktail bar, follow the recipe and have a gentleman cube. They did have a quality cherry and proper pour. read more

I normally do not write negative reviews (this is my first one actually), especially given the fact that so many businesses are struggling these days. However, given the way my husband and I (two people of color), were treated at this establishment by the security there during our recent visit to Seattle, I want to bring our experience to the owner's attention, as well as to the attention of others. My husband and I did a rode trip from the Bay Area where we live through Oregon and ended in Washington. On June 17, we left our hotel in Portland and drove the few hours to Seattle. We wanted to check out Pike Place Market and we really had to use the restroom after the drive. My husband parked in a parking lot and we headed down the hill from the lot to find the nearest place we could grab a drink and use the restroom. We saw the door open at the Diller Room and we went right in (with our masks on, of course). I made eye contact with a cook who said nothing to me as I walked into the restroom. I went into the restroom and closed the door and as I was putting the seat cover on the toilet seat, I heard commotion outside the bathroom door and then someone started banging on the door furiously and yelling "GET OUT! GET THE FUCK OUT!!!" I was really frightened so I flushed the toilet without using it and opened the door to the security guard yelling like a maniac at my husband and I to get out and threatening to call the cops on us. While posturing at us in a physically aggressive manner, he started saying "PEOPLE SHOOT UP IN THERE!!! THREE PEOPLE HAVE SHOT UP IN THERE RECENTLY! GET OUT! GET THE FUCK OUT!!!" At that point, my husband was angry and yelled back "SHE IS A FUCKING LAWYER! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?" Completely confused, shocked, and bewildered, I tried to deescalate the situation and explained to the security guard that we wanted to buy a drink and asked him what the problem was. He continued yelling at my husband and I saying "GET OUT! YOU CAME IN THROUGH THE BACK DOOR! WE ARE CLOSED! GET THE FUCK OUT!!!" I asked him how we were supposed to know that they were closed when the door was open and he continued to yell at us to get out. As we were leaving, we noticed that the front door was indeed locked, but we could not see that from the side street/side door. If security was any kind of security at all, they would have locked their side door so customers wouldn't think they were open. Alternatively, he could have treated us with some dignity and respect and we would have completely understood our mistake in thinking they were open. Fortunately for us, everyone else we met in Seattle following this incident was extremely nice, but the racist and rude security guard at this establishment turned us off from what otherwise seemed like a very nice place to enjoy a drink. read more

I stopped by The Diller Room on my way to my next destination in Seattle to grab a drink at 'one of the best bars in Seattle'; and it didn't disappoint. It looks like an old-school type of bar. Big, long, wooden bar counter and an awesome barkeep. I ordered their special old-fashioned and it is probably the best old-fashioned that I've ever had. It was amazing. Went here last night after hopping off the light rail on the way to our hotel. We just needed a little late night cocktail after a long day of travel and this place did not disappoint. Im a big fan of an Old Fashioned done just simply and without any of the frills that most craft cocktail bars seem to do. Stop overthinking it you fools!!! Anyway The Diller Room is most definitely the kind of place that over does the cocktail. They give you the drink that you want and let the bartender working put their own little signature and flair onto the drink instead of serving it in some weird ass glass with 20 different bitters no one has ever heard of. I don't give a good god damn about bitters. Just give me a tasty drink! Anyway I love this place because they do craft cocktails and leave the pretentiousness out. read more

The drinks here are generous without being too strong. The service is prompt and friendly, which are the two defining characteristics of this Seattle landmark, located a block from Pike Place Market. The crowd consists of locals due to other tourist traps in the area. This is not a flashy establishment, though it exerts its own personality which is "Seattle Chill" in a dark, loud, vintage hotel bar. Regarding attire, I'm literally wearing my "work around the house clothes" and feel completely at ease. I don't feel out of place, or that there is a requirement to wear my hipster outfit game, LOL. Danny, our bartender, consistently ensures our beverages never run dry. The music is rock/grunge. We love it. We enjoy visiting this joint on Fridays because of the crowd, great music, and close proximity to Pike Place. If we have a hankering to patronize another local favorite, it will likely be within walking distance. Dark, sleek and comfortable is how I would describe this bar. After passing this place sooooo many times and not taking notice of it, I was glad to have been able to make a stop here. Met up with a friend for drinks and overall, I would definitely swing by here again to try out some more of the signature cocktails. For drinks, my friend got the Mauna and I had a mad craving for a cucumber mojito. The bartender was nice and made our drinks pretty quickly. In summary, our drinks were on fleek (on point :P). My mojito was strong and tasty and the Mauna drink had a nice milky like texture and it left a nice lingering coconut aftertaste (similar to Malibu). Most cocktail drinks were around $10 and the happy hour menu looks pretty decent. So with all this said, pretty pumped to come back here again :) read more

This bar is really great. Small, intimate, really nicely decorated. The bartenders are top-notch. Like many places in Seattle, you can get a really nice "dealers choice" type of drink. Tell the bartender what flavor profiles you like, and they create something just for you. We went back to this place twice during our 3-day visit to Seattle. Loved the decor and the small patio outside that allows you to people watch and get a better feel for the city in this part of Seattle. I cannot recommend this iconic Seattle bar enough. I work in the area and though there are several other bars around I keep coming back to the Diller for its outstanding craft cocktail and food selection as well as its fantastic staff. All of the bartenders are skilled and attentive professionals. Alex and Justin are usually working when I come in and it's always a good time. The owners are also lovely and always hospitable. We were searching for a place to grab a quick and cheap bite to eat for dinner, after a long day. This place popped up on yelp and the sound of HH pizza was too good to pass up, especially at the price of $7. I thought we may have been mistaken about the place having food once we got inside, since it's obviously a bar. But we found the room in the back that had tables and chairs and was less noisy, and a waitress who showed us the HH menu. Island Pork Sliders ($7) - These were good, they were loaded with pulled pork in a sweet sauce with some slaw. It came with 3 sliders. I thought they were a little sweet but I typically don't go for this kind of sauce. My SO who does, absolutely loved them. They were also very filling which was surprising because they looked small. 5/5 Four Cheese Pizza with Pesto ($7) - AMAZING!!! This fulfilled all my pesto-y cheesy dreams. Super strong pesto and lots of cheese and the pizza itself had the taste and texture like it was cooked in a wood-burning oven. 5/5 read more
