It's better than McDonald's. Tried the nachos for the first time today with chicken and it was standard and as advertised. Sometimes that's not a bad thing, especially when they have the game on! Found myself in commercial Drive with time to kill....decided to go for some cheap eats and stumbled upon The Dime! What more can you ask for? Cheap eats at 1 price and a cold beer. Place is a bit loud bec of the crowds, but they are serving up some good grub. For the price and quality, it cant be beat. Service is top notch too. Very attentive and fast. Ordered a Roadie burger and was surprised at how good it was. The bun was moist and tender and so was the burger patty. Perfectly coked with bacon and cheese. Loved every bite. Portion was good too and came with perfectly cooked fries. Had to take 1 star off for cleanliness of the place. Tables needed to be wiped down for sure, and the floor swept a bit. But i get it, its busy and most places are short staffed, but a bit of cleaning is a must for sure. Overall, food was great. Also ordered their chicken alfredo. Just forgot to take a pic. The Dime is one of those places where all food is $4.99. Nothing special about the food (which can vary between meh to pretty darn good, depending on what you order), but it's decent, and it's five bucks. However, the drinks are really overpriced--at least the wine is--so as a wine drinker, I wouldn't go here for drinks. I went on Wednesday evening with some friends, and Wednesdays are Wing Wednesdays, with chicken wings being $0.33 each, with minimum orders of ten wings. So $3.33 for a decent sized portion of wings, which are pretty tasty. I'm definitely coming back on a Wednesday! Another thing to note: wifi is excellent. Immediately I was connected to their wifi--I didn't have to log in or anything (I'm not sure if it's because I have been there before and previously connected to their wifi, or if it just automatically connects you), and not once did it cut out. When you see a sign that says $4.95 for all food.... you mind thinks... is it good... can I eat it? And it lingered on me for the longest time till I had a chance to check this joint out. I have been to the former venue 'La Rocca' so I knew what was here before, and how it looked before the face lift, and they did a good job. A real 'chill' type place, your local neighbourhood bar with many beers on tap, and cheap food, can't go wrong, but is it any good? What makes this place different? We came in on a busy weeknight, not much seats, so we decided to park our butts at the bar. The bartender and the manager on the floor made it an effor to acknowledge our existance right away, by telling us their names, by asking if we had come here, and just feeling welcome. It was a weird thing, as I used to just parking anywhere in a bar, having some guy/girl who is using the job as part-time come by take my order, run off, drop my stuff and disappear into the abyss, but this was not the case one bit. This place has got the old but bright wood look, tons of tv's, especially sitting at the bar, so if your catching the game you will definitely see it, and a pretty decent food menu. On this night we ordered some maple bacon gnocchi, Korean fried chicken wings, and a pulled pork sandwich.... with fries... hey $4.95... these portions aren't weasley small either, and it ain't crap. Sure enough, as I saunter into the place, that's what the menu says. Everything is $4.95. Only tried the wings. They weren't bad. Nothing spectacular and nothing that would have made me hurl. At that price, I'm not expecting anything earth shattering. I found the drinks weak. I ordered gin and tonic all night. I wasn't expecting this place to have wine, even out of a box. I downed 3 of those gin and tonics like water. $6 each and this was not Beefeater Gin. It was Bombay Sapphire. Not a bad price at all, but it was weak. read more

Dime is a typical bar where you will have a lot of drinks and food. The songs in there, are nice :) It's really a nice place to go by yourself or with your friends. The service is a little slow and sometimes the waitress forgets your drinks, like all the time. The beers are amazing with a lot of options and the cocktails are good too. So, try all them. My favourite one was Jacob - they mix Smirnoff with lemon, it's simple but it is good. I tried the tomato and pepper one, but I didn't like, but if you like exotic things, you will love that. I ordered a Dime Sandwich with potatoes, they are really good :) So, visit this restaurant and ask some beers, you will love it and don't forget, they have food menu with a lot of options for $ 4,95. There's a reason why the food is cheap here. You come for the atmosphere! I just moved to the Commercial Drive area, so I haven't been to a lot of restaurants around here yet. The Dime was my first because of the price and the quick service. I believe that the Dime is owned by the same people who own the warehouse on Granville and a couple of other places that don't come to mind right now. I think there's actually another dime somewhere? Anyway. I got a mandarin salad, the chef actually forgot to put the dressing on the first time, but it was busy and was fixed quickly. The atmosphere in the dime is similar to the warehouse in the sense that it's a bit on the edgy side. They have great drinks here as well, and I think this is definitely a place that you come to drink and hang out with friends at - maybe get a cheap meal if you've drank too much or are starving, cause it's cheap, why the heck not? The food is actually not bad for $5.00 and if you're not a drinker, then your meal is even more affordable! Their menu really seems like a hit or miss for most people, but our group seemed to enjoy our meal. The best items were probably the artichoke dip and perogies. It was a busy Friday night when we went so the service was a bit slow but the waitress was really friendly and accommodating. Came here and went to order their Mandarin Noodle Salad which is labeled as being vegan, only for the waitress to tell me the noodles actually egg in them lol. Just a block down from the Warehouse, it's where everyone goes when the Warehouse is full. Same company, same eats, same price - however I feel as if it has gotten better over the years and might even be better than the Warehouse now?! Might be the chefs or something, but all the food we received was delicious and the drinks were as well. Juicy chicken tenders, crispy flavourful falafel burger, perfectly seasoned cauliflower bites. They all came out within 10 minutes of ordering, too! I might think about coming here instead next time as a first choice, and it's less crowded as well - faster and better service. read more

Suppose you find yourself walking down the street looking for a bar. You might wander into a place like this. This was a heavy metal bar. At least it's better than being just another sports bar. Our servers were wearing masks. There was hand sanitizer at the door. You might look around and think to yourself this looks like a good place to get a nice cheap drink. However you would be wrong. My shot of tequila cost $10! Of course there's no menus but when you see the online menu, you may think to yourself, that can't be right? I will say this for them, our server was just a laidback dude with a sense of humor. I've been here quite often over the years and always have a good experience. Came in for a visit yesterday and was lucky enough to try the Saigon Smokie on the featured menu. IT WAS AMAZING!!!!! I would order this weekly if I could, I highly suggest that they put this on the regular menu - sooooo gooooood! Yes the menu doesn't have the million options some places have but let's be honest, this place has the atmosphere, the tasty cheap eats AND great service and beer. What more can one ask for? I've had salt & pepper wings, the chicken pesto, the chicken dinner offered today (on Christmas Day after 5pm) and the Mac & cheese with additional bacon. All oh so good. I honestly used to think this was an awesome place. I was so disillusioned today. No wheelchair height tables for my friend, no w/c washrooms. Come on this is 2018 most of the clients are walk in. Commercial Drive has progressed in most cases. Also the menu remains the same but....Surprise the ingredients have changed!!! I know some folks will say what do u expect for $5.95 well if you are on a limited budget it is a treat to go out for a meal. Came here last night with some friends. This was my first experience at any of the $4.95/plate type restaurants. Menu had some interesting choices, among them some salads, gnocchi, asparagus dip, perogies and mac 'n cheese. Ambiance was a little disappointing, though I had lowered my expectations. The place was at capacity, and the music was not to my liking and way too loud at that. Grungy music is the best way I can describe it, not something I'd normally listen to, and strangely they seemed to turn up the volume with each song. We weren't even seated underneath one of the speakers and could not hear each other from across the table. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not accustomed to dive bars though - perhaps that's typical. Our waitress was prompt in bringing us menus and water, but the food was another story. Between the six of us, I believe we ordered seven or eight dishes. Most dishes came out at the same time - about an hour after we ordered them. That was disappointing. They brought fries instead of a salad as one of the side dishes with a burger, which the waitress corrected before we could point it out. One dish was forgotten completely, and brought out when we were all about ready to leave - minus the party that didn't get their artichoke dip. I was intrigued by their vegetarian burgers but in the end GF and I each ordered the burger sans bacon, thinking it would be a safe choice. That it was, though the fries were lukewarm at best. For the pricepoint, the burger was fine. Next time in the area I would either get a pizza slice nearby or pay more to go to one of my favourite restaurants instead. Nothing against The Dime - I'm sure they'll continue to be busy - but it's just not for me. read more

Lemme just start with a PSA: do not order a double. They will charge you for two cocktails rather than one cocktail with an added shot. Complete ripoff!! The drinks and everything were really nice and it was a fun hip place to hangout. Make sure u bring ur 100% voice bc ur gonna need it to hear anyone in your party. I am looking at some of the recent reviews for the Dime, and I am surprised by the repetitive discounting of the wait staff. I've noticed some staff changes in the last few months that I have been going to the Dime on a regular basis because it's near home and the food is a great value (the beer is affordable, too). But even though I've seen some new faces, it hasn't dampered the service. Often on busy nights I'm surprised on how swiftly my food order comes. Other pluses: Mini donuts w/coffee on the dessert menu; great tunes no matter what time of day. read more

ALL FOOD IS $4.95~!! OMG!! I can not back out of this at all if food is less than $5. Okay, you get what you pay for though. I call this the DIVE BAR of Commercial. It has beer and it has extremely cheap food. I love how this place has become my spot recently with my group of friends and we just come here because we want to get a cheap drink with food. Service was great, the waitresses and the waiters are extremely attentive with their tables. Just have a beer, get some cheap food, and talk all night with friends is my motto for The Dime. We took a risk coming here as we didn't bring our phones. No yelping check-ins or quick tips for me! The sign out front was quite cool and certainly drew us in. I could see how this would be a popular place for locals and college kids (which it was) and if I was still in college it would probably be part of my regular rotation. Great vibe, welcoming hostess and wait staff. Good place to grab a beer, but not so great for wine which was to be expected. If you're a non-beer drinker like I can be, get Sol Mexican beer. Definitely better than the wine here. All of the food at $5 is pretty cheap, but you truly get what you pay for. The burgers are the best if you had to eat at all but the patty tasted frozen to me. The bun was the white trash kinda bun--the way it should be. You really couldn't complain about it, given the price. It was less than Save-On-Meats and not too far off in taste! the fries seemed old, too, which was surprising as I thought they could have done a better job with deep-fried potatos. The nachos were okay if you don't mind no cheese/unmelted cheese, but the waitress certainly warned us and was pretty cool about it. I even offered to pay extra for extra cheese, and even then, there wasn't much cheese. The Asian chicken was dry and old but the salad upon which it rested was okay. Still, the service was b/w a four-five. I have no idea why we even bothered to eat here, except that the place was buzzing and had a wait. And who can turn down $5 prices, I mean, really? So if good beer and cheap eats are on the top of your list, you won't be disappointed here. I suggest having at least three drinks before you order food and you will do just fine! read more
