Opted for the Truckers (yeah no surprise there) but this time rotated out the sourdough for grilled tomatoes. Everything was perfectly cooked and tasted great...loved the grilled tomatoes with the potatoes combination. The service was spot on and our coffees were regularly refilled. Great job Red Wagon. I have wanted to try Red Wagon for so long as i'd heard so many good things. I am a HUGE pancake fan and decided to go with the Trucker. This included eggs, bacon, toast, hashbrowns AND 2 pancakes for $18. The value was insane!! The pancakes were incredible and some of my top pancakes in Van. Fluffy, buttery and just all around delicious. The rest of the food on my plate was super tasty and i got a good amount of bacon. Nowadays, $18 is fair and a pretty good deal for what you get. Especially considering the Pancakes alone were $16. why not go for it and get the trucker! Reason why they're losing a star. Service. The waitress was not friendly or welcoming or inviting. I was the one that said hi to here?! Why the bare minimum. Maybe it's just me but i expect decent service or friendliness at a sit down. The new location is beautiful, clean and a good size. We originally took an uber to the Red Wagon and it took us a few feet away from this location so it may have been down the street previously. They make you wait outside for them to seat you which thankfully wasn't that long at all for us. There wasn't that many people when we arrived but once we ordered, the food did take quite a bit of time to come out. It was worth it because the food was delicious! I had ordered a breakfast sandwich and my friend ordered the Super Trucker and I ate one of her pancakes and everything was sooo good! Really loved this place! Their menu has a good mix of traditional items as well as some more unique/fusion ingredients or dishes for traditional brunch. I got the breakfast bah mi with pork belly and it was so damn good. My husband got the Benny and loved it as well. I had brunch at their previous location. After they have moved, I have been here a couple of times. I always like to order their Trucker or Super Trucker. I know I can't finish the whole dish and am always happy to pack the leftover home, so I can enjoy the rest of the food later They are located right on East Hastings. There is a lot of street parking. I usually park at the residential area and walk to the restaurant. They put up a sign at the entrance and ask customers to wait to be seated. They are always full and a lot of customers wait to have breakfast and lunch here on weekdays and weekends. It's a bit crazy but it's good in a way that people can dine out after a long Covid period. They only do breakfast, brunch and lunch. They close at 3pm and don't offer dinner. The servers are always friendly and polite. I do recommend this Canadian restaurant for brunch. read more

I had a late solo breakfast at Red Wagon this morning. Arrived at 10:30. The restaurant wasn't busy and ordered a simple Bennie and coffee. Ten minutes later the original server came and asked if I'd been given a menu. I again told her my order and she said oh yeah, sorry, right on it it. The oder came but to be honest it was definitely mediocre. Lots of hipster vibes in the place. If you're into a scene, wear plaid but not interested in the food this is the place for you. read more

The Red Wagon has rolled down the block! I got to dine in at their newly opened location today, and it was such a lovely experience. Due to COVID-19, the restaurant allows a maximum of one hour for each table to stick around. But because of the efficient service, this is more than enough time to enjoy your food. The staff were all extremely friendly and chipper, and it made for a positive service experience. The food - although the portions aren't super big, the flavours are spot on. We tried the daily special, which was an Italian sausage eggs benedict with basil hollandaise. I think there was also a sweet, tangy tomato jam spread on the English muffin. It was so good that my sister and I spent a good couple minutes lamenting the fact that it's not a mainstay on the regular menu. The crispy pork belly was also delicious, and the accompanying potatoes were hot and buttery. I only wish there had been some more salsa verde on top! Comparing to other brunch prices in Vancouver, it's certainly not overpriced, but I wouldn't say it's cheap either. The new digs are really nice! Got a good view of the mountains out the window, and the layout was clean and spacious. Definitely planning to be back! read more

Fantastic experience here midweek having lunch. We couldn't possibly eat the full plate. The pulled pork was delicious. The service was friendly and professional despite being a packed lunch crowd. The Red Wagon has been a neighbourhood staple for many years. I recall when I was still in university and frequenting them fairly regularly. They were even featured on Food Network's Diner's Drive-ins and Dives. Fast forward a decade later, at their new location, we decided to rekindle with some nostalgia on a Wednesday morning. Due to COVID they had big signs for you to wait outside before being seated, we followed their protocols and were greeted promptly by a server. We were informed that the only tables available were their back patio, which works for us. They had adjustable and tilting umbrellas on each of the picnic benches which was a thoughtful thing to put in given the strong afternoon sun. Service overall was quite slow. We waited over 40 minutes for our food after ordering. Our waitress did acknowledge our food took longer than usual as their kitchen was backed up. A table beside us who ordered after us got their food first and a table behind us who sat down for less than 15 mins got their food the same time as we did. We have no problem waiting, but it would have been nice to get an update ahead of time. We ordered the Trucker Breakfast as well as the BBQ Brisket. The bacon was still the same as before, cured in house. The pancakes were fluffy with hints of bacon grease, along with their Jack Daniel's syrup. Overall a solid breakfast. The brisket on the other hand was quite disappointing. The BBQ sauce was really sour, to the point where it drowned out all other flavours. I could not taste any smokiness, seasoning or even the beef. The sourness was so overpowering that you had to drink sips of water in between bites to wash it down. Our server was efficient, looking after 6 tables outside by herself, but we were never checked up on how our food or meal was. Overall we have very mixed feelings about Red Wagon. read more

I can't stop coming here. I just wish there were more days off so I can savour the sweet delicious brunch while everyone else is at work. It started with the pulled pork pancakes (avec JD Maple Syrup, of course) then one day I decided to get something else because, you know, I wanted to branch out. The whole time I kept dreaming of the pulled pork pancakes... and the accompanying JD maple syrup (obviously). In hipster talk, this place would "have character". Staff were friendly and helpful. Prices are a wee bit high, but this is normal for hipster type places. Something something supporting local community. BBQ brisket - served on corn bread and hidden under eggs. Great flavour. Eggs Benedict - to be honest, nothing really stuck out, but they were still good. They also have a house hot sauce that is smoky and spicy. Definitely worth checking out. We got there around 9:30 to avoid the wait. It's so worth it to wake up early for this. We ordered big trucker and breakfast pulled pork bahn mi. I like the crispy pork belly from the trucker. It tastes even better if you dip it in the maple syrup. Next time, I won't order the pulled pork bahn mi though. The sauce from the pulled pork made the bread soggy and I am not a big fan of soggy buns. Their staff are attentive and refill your coffee and water diligently. Even though this is a busy place, they don't rush you to leave at all. Their bathroom is inside the kitchen. We were initially going to a hot spot just a few blocks away, but decided to come here instead. We loved the atmosphere and old school jams playing. Our food was delicious. I couldn't decide on Egg Benedict or Crispy Pork belly. I opted for the pork because it too had the hollandaise sauce. The pork belly could have been cooked a little bit more. I'm used to juicy, tender, cut with your fork pork belly. It was still a bit tough for my liking. Everything else on my plate was scrumptious. I couldn't believe how yellow my egg yolks were! They had some spicy in house salsa that was divine. They didn't have any strawberry jam to go with my toast, it had some in house blueberry jam that was so delicious. I would have bought a jar of that. We also got their Chilaquiles, that my husband said tasted like he was eating nachos. I totally agreed. Chilaquiles is supposed to be drenched in a tomato based soup or salsa. It was very dry to the tongue. Maybe we'll just ask for more sauce. Bacon omelette was OK, I think it would have tasted better with just thick sliced bacon instead of back bacon (cubed) Pancak Their side order of fried chicken was spot on. I went to Red Wagon at their old location over 5 years ago and wasn't impressed back then but today I found myself going to their new location to give them another shot. I am glad I did the pork belly was excellent in flavor and tenderness and the pulled pork was also outstanding. Egg Benedict was good. Everything we had was excellent except the potatoes which were average. Maybe truffle oil or something to boost the flavor profile. Service was excellent and price is reasonable for today's standard. It was the long line ups outside of The Red Wagon that attracted me to this place. Perfectly positioned and highly visible on Hastings Street, I would drive by and see groups of patient brunch lovers waiting for their turn to enter this red and white establishment. After a few weeks of procrastination, I rounded up my boyfriend -who is never a fan of waiting - to stand in line with me. We go there fairly early and to my surprise, didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes. Pre-Covid days, this place was packed with as many tables and chairs to seat their hungry patrons. I had just enough space to squeeze into the seat against the wall and then had a sudden irrational fear that I might not be able to get back out after eating. Interior wise it's down to earth hipster with a hint of worn furniture musk. Our brunch order? The BBQ Brisket ( 2 eggs, house-made BBQ brisket, jalapeño cornbread, homefries) and Trucker (2 eggs, 2 buttermilk pancakes, homefries, toast, choice of sausage). I had high hopes. The food was hearty and presented nicely ... but unfortunately, it fell flat in taste. I wasn't a huge fan of the cornbread (which I'm normally drawn too) and the brisket wasn't too memorable. The homefries were nice and that's about the extent of the dish. I'm normally a huge fan of a hearty savoury brunch, but I couldn't quite connect with it. But that's OK. For brunch on Saturday morning I opted for the pulled pork on jalapeno corn bread eggs benedict and that entire flavour combination was spot on. I liked the uniqueness of the jalapeno corn bread, eggs were perfect and pulled pork had a phenomenal flavour. The homefries are not memorable - pretty flat and boring actually. I have to admit I wasn't entirely impressed with the decor or the attitude of our waitress. She seemed she could care less about being there and was very disinterested in everyone she served. No smiles, barely any eye contact. Sure, Red Wagon is hip, but your attitude doesn't need to be so "better than thou." I also noticed a nice older couple having breakfast sitting on some really cruddy foldable chairs. I felt a bit sad for them. I'd feel like I was at some pop up potluck at a boardroom or something. Anyways, my meal was overall tasty when focusing in on the egg bennys combo, and I know tons of people who swear by it. I was excited to take out of town guests to enjoy one of the east side's best breakfasts and the food did not disappoint. From crispy bacon (not my dish!) to fluffy pancakes to a delicious and hearty vegan scramble, and plentiful coffee service, Red Wagon was reliably hearty and tasty. Just goes to show how good their food is. I've had both the pancakes (add blueberries + bananas), pulled pork pancakes, tofu scramble and smoked salmon scramble, all of which I loved! Their pancakes are some of my favourite in the city because of how fluffy they are. It almost feels like they melt in your mouth. My mouth is watering just writing this and thinking about it.
