I vote 3 out of 5 stars for this place. Everything on the menu is 4.95 so when it comes to this place you definitely get what you pay for. Waitress was nice enough, not nearly attentive as a server should be. Did ask how to meal was took to long between beers to offer another one. It was however fairly busy and as for food. Nice (but far too hip?) design touches compliment the $4.95 entrees. I think they are hoping to make all their money off the bar. It seems like The Warehouse for people who don't leave East Van. EDIT: [changed from 3 to 1 star] After a few more visits I have decided Dime is not worth my time or money. Everything on the menu sounds amazing (even too good to be true for under 5 bucks) but comes up mediocre. Worse is the portion since. I guess we shouldn't have expected much but my gentleman friend and I needed to order multiple dishes to account for our hunger level which racked up a bill that was far from reasonable. A friend was having a graduation dinner (he finished his course) and decided to have a get together to celebrate. We all met at The Dime (there were about 20-25 of us). I had already looked on Yelp to see what the reviews were, so I was expecting decent food....what I didnt expect was the amount of food for the price! Between the group of us, we sampled most of the menu...everyone was very impressed with the quality of the food, but also with the amount we got! The lady next to me ordered 2 dishes because she assumed it would be small portions because of the price...her eyes were huge when they set 2 big portions in front of her! I had the vegie buger...it was delicious! I am not a vegetarian, but wanted to see how it was. I didnt miss meat at all in this burger! Had a birthday dinner here once. They don't take reservations but they definitely try their best to get you a table as quickly as possible. They have excellent staff and delicious burgers. Can't say the same for their perogies though... too dry. I would love to come back and try more of their food because apparently some of the food is a hit or miss. Was at The Dime last night. The hostess wanted to seat us at the very back, dark and uninviting despite a table being vacant at the front. She and the waitress consulted each other and they agreed the back was best. I asked her why we couldn't sit at the front? She said I suppose if you want? Very reluctantly. They then glared at us from the service station...very nice ladies, very nice. Then we went on to wait 40 minutes for our meal, the guy next to us arrived after, ordered, ate and paid before we got our meal. What gives? read more

Loved it, loved it. The best Veggie Burgers in town for $4.95. Went there a couple of weeks ago, just walking by, saw the placard outside that said everything on the menu $4.95 all day. We went in and immediately asked for a coffee (which they didn't serve) not even on the menu. They said they would make a fresh pot for us!!! Ordered the Veggie burgers and they had everything on them, right down to the Avacado and sprouts. We told them they were the best and the table next to us told them too... My friend and I went here for a drink tonight. We came in about an hour before close. We had one beer each, then at last call, we had another beer each. The service was fine, if average. However, we had a rude awakening at 1:30. Despite the fact that there were multiple people in the establishment, the bartender decided to single us out and asked us to leave. He literally shouted across the room. According to him, we should "fuck off" as we had no drinks, despite the fact that we both had two half pints each. When we showed him this, he started swearing at us. So... yeah. Basically the most Shit service you can expect. I've been here a few times. I've tried their BLAT (bacon, lettuce, avocado, and tomato) sandwich and their burger. I thought the BLAT needed a bit more of everything. I found their portion sizes to be a little on the small side and especially when it comes to the side of fries. I understand it's only $5 for every dish but a few more fries would make sense so it doesn't feel like I'm eating a kid's meal. The taste is not spectacular but it's not bad either. I find the drinks to be expensive and watered down. I'm sure this must be how they make their money since the food is so cheap. As for the service, it has varied in my experience. Once, I got stuck waiting outside the restroom for so long I wondered if someone had locked it on their way out by mistake or something. When the door finally opened, I came face to face with a male staff member who looked shocked and embarrassed that I caught him stinking out the ladies room. Not cool. Another time I was there the waiter kept trying to flirt with me and was staring at me weird which made me really uncomfortable but at least he was helpful in finding my friend's kid find something that would she would like. I like the music that was playing when I went but once it was louder than before and it made conversation difficult as we had to yell across the table to each other. I might go back if a a friend wants to go for the cheap food but since this place is just okay I won't be going out of my way for this place. read more

I get that the food shouldn't be five stars, that's how they keep it cheap. But it should at least be warm, which it wasn't. Going during the day is a bit better as it isn't as busy, however, the staff then are the worst. the younger blond tattooed waitress we had was absolutely rude, as if she had better things to do. Disappointed, a friend and I decided to go for a drink at the end of the night. When we first walked in they were playing pretty good music, asked the staff behind the bar if we made last call, he said yes with a smile. The place was pretty empty, being that it was the end of the night, we sat at the bar, and waited and waited while all the staff were visiting with friends and chatting amongst themselves, behind the bar, in front of us. I gave them eye contact, tried to get there attention and we were ignored. So we got up and left without a word said to us. Its really too bad the staff there do not care about customer service, It probably would be a really cool bar to hang out at if they did. I know I would of been back if the service was better and not rude. We ended up making it to the Charlatan pub before last call and the service was great. read more

After a Sunday of going patio to patio on commercial drive, the Dime clearly stood out as having the best service. Combine that with a menu where everything cost $4.95 and you have a winner. A different server just cleaning tables around me didn't say a single word... Still waiting it's been about 20mins since I finished.. Barley and customers, 2 servers. just ate here today, the hostess was nice but our server...not so much...she gave us menus and asked if we wanted anything to drink and we all said water...she brought 4 glasses by holding them all with her hands touching all the tops of the glasses (why did she not use a tray?...no idea)..she slammed our waters down so hard that the water splashed out of the cups...she didn't crack one smile while we were there...one server was climbing all over the bar in front of this guy and her bare ass was showing...just a disgusting place...the food which was bland and cold took forever! I met a friend who lives in Vancouver for a drink in here. It's relatively new from what I could work out, and they are offering all food on their menu for just $5 - it seemed pretty enticing too, and not skimpy portions! Good deal while you can get it. The vibe in here was just like all the bars I like to frequent back home - dark, atmospheric, loud and fun! The music was great, going from glassjaw to the spice girls in just a few songs! The wine I got poured was probably the smallest measure of wine I received in Canada, it was a pretty small glass, so not great value, and it wasn't cold enough for me (white wine really should be super chilled!), but my drinking companions were happy with their beer choice so that's a minor quibble. Service was pretty shoddy at first - it took ages for us to be acknowledged, in fact we had to ask for the menu ourselves, and then we finally got our order taken. It continued on like that for most of the night, but it's a new place and I'm sure that the kinks are still being ironed out, so will definitely not hold that against them. We came past again on the Saturday afternoon and the place was busy and rowdy! Fun place, definitely check it out. read more

It was ok, more like a 2.5. Get a table near the open garage doors. Was digging some of the music (Alice Cooper, QOTSA) but sometimes the music was just too loud and I'm not a crochety old fogey just yet. I just like to be able to hear across the table. $5 food is a bit of a scam depending on what you get - fries were good but a small bowl for that price is actually overpriced. Next time I'll try the burger which looked decent. The beer prices are average (no drink specials except cans of Lucky for 3.50). The mini donuts were good - the highlight! I was kind of digging the "faux-dive" atmosphere (anywhere with kimchi or goat cheese on the menu is not a true dive lol). Service was ok, we got lots of water refills and no pressure about lingering at our table forever without ordering more of anything. If you order coffee ($3 but decent) you have to ask for milk which will come in a shot glass that will dribble half of it on the table. I would probably check this place out again. read more

If you had approached us as a group and explained the situation we would have been happy to figure out what went wrong calculating your tip. Instead you marched up to everyone in our group individually insisting that we had only tipped "two percent" and giving us all kinds of attitude before everyone had even paid! Our bill was totally out of order and it was hard enough for us to figure out who had what. I know serving is hard, I've done it before, but if you had handled the situation with a little more tact then we could have worked something out! Instead, everyone felt so uncomfortable that we left right after we paid our bills. When I conferred with my friends afterwards the two percent figure made no sense based on what people told me they put in. It's possible we did undertip, but if you'd approached us as a group, after everyone had paid, and asked politely if the service was ok we would have thrown some more money for your tip! read more
