First the good: Server was attentive and efficient. Food arrived quickly. Fried cauliflower app and accompanied sauces were delicious. Not so good: Overwhelming smell of disinfectant cleaner. Excrutiatingly loud, not the place for an intimate conversation. (Patio may be best place to sit next time.) I enjoyed the cauliflower appetizer. I thought it was expensive at $9. I found a hair on the plate, but I was with a lunch date who loves this place, so didn't want to make a big deal. I brushed it off quickly. Then, I found another one (!!!) on the same plate (after I nearly finished it) and informed server. It was not taken off the bill. Greek salad was not a traditional Greek salad. It did not contain feta. Cheese was a very mild, soft cheese, shredded, almost like a mozzarella. It really had very little flavor. Greens used are non-crunchy mesclun. 3 miniscule pieces of diced tomato, maybe a couple diced cucumbers. A few olives, unpitted, but good flavor. Had to order pita on the side. I believe this salad was nearly $10... Maybe it was $11. You could add grilled chicken or salmon to make it more of meal. Always wanted to come here to give it a try because high rating on Yelp. However, the food was a huge disappointment. My lamb chops were all brunt.. my bf's beef kabob was also slightly burnt. total four pieces and non of them are edible. Also the rest of the food was very mediocre, like, to-go restaurant level. We had a good dinner from The Diplomat Junior. Ordering via phone can be a challenge as their phone system is hit-or-miss. So, we drove down, placed our order, ran an errand, and came back to pick up our meals. The four lamb chops with grilled veggies and rice pilaf was out-of-this-world amazing! The marinated lamb was tender and flavorful. The rice pilaf was the best I've ever eaten. The portions are so generous that I shared some rice with a friend who rarely eats it and she loved it! So yummy! The grilled veggies were a half of a tomato and a large pepper char grilled--both perfectly cooked. The garden salad was crisp, fresh, generous, and with an oil and vinegar dressing on the side. The dressing tasted a little past it's prime, but the whole meal was tops. We aren't huge fans of many of the items in the menu but will be back for the skewers. Great service and lovely people. read more

But what made this a horrible experience was, as I was drinking my tea I took at my glass, and it had a Hugh crack in it. I'm talking one you could really see. It was not small at all. This is my favorite place to get Mediterranean food! Not only is the price worth it for the food, but my meal is always consistent! I switch between the chicken kebab plate and the beef kebab wrap. Good food, however, we had such a horrible issue with the manager that we vowed to never return. In the morning, we ordered a large family meal over the phone for pick up at 5:00 and was told it came with a large side of rice for 10+ people. When we got to the restaurant to pick up the order, apparently they didn't start it yet, so we had to wait an hour. We picked up the order, returned home and found that it did not have rice. When we returned to the diplomat for rice, the manager insisted that the meal we ordered did not come with rice, and that we had ordered incorrectly. A Mediterranean family size order... without rice. Instead of giving us the rice we should have gotten, or AT LEAST asking to charge us for rice, he kept insisting that he was right and trying to call the younger gentleman that we ordered the food with on the phone. The cook got a tin of rice and placed it on the counter. My mother put a 20 on the counter and started to take the rice, because she was fed up, we just wanted to eat and be out of there... but the manager pulled the rice away from her like she was stealing. I couldn't believe the childish behavior of the manager, he really just wanted to prove us wrong. He wasn't even acknowledging us as people. My mother tossed the 20 on the counter and took the rice when he was still trying to call his younger worker. (It was less than 20$) The food was already cool when we got back, with 2 1/2 hours of delay. We used to get their food every 2 weeks in 200$+ orders but the manager clearly didn't care about that, he didn't want to part with his rice. Lmao... I would encourage you all to try Waffa's kitchen. This place is absolutely worth the drive from Chino. My friend and I had the cold appetizer sampler platter and the vegetable soup. *Everything* was delicious. I appreciated that the stuffed grape leaves and their filling were both nice and moist (at some other places it's kind of hard and dry). The hummus and baba ganoush / baba-ghanouj / moutabal) were creamy and both had excellent flavor. The feta cheese was moist and flavorful (I preferred it so much to the dry and crumbly kind). The soup was tasty and chock full of vegetables - I would go back for it alone. I definitely want to try their kebabs next time! So, if you love Mediterranean food, this is a great place to go. I am so disappointed. My friend was visiting me today and we love middle eastern food. Although I had not been to the Diplomat Jr. in about a year, my past experiences with food and service had always been impeccable. This experience was sadly not good at all. First, the portions have changed dramatically but the prices have not... typical with inflation... so, not too surprised. $30.00 for an appetizer for two and $19.00 for a small plate of chicken shawarma fries was steep for what happened next. The tabbouleh salad that came with the appetizer had bulgar wheat that was so hard, I could have chipped a tooth! We were told that it needed to sit longer and there was nothing that they could do but we could "take it home" and eat it later. Uh... we're here to eat now with our $30.00 appetizer not in 6 hours after the food has had time to marinate!! So, when we asked if there was something they could do to substitute... like more hummus or something else edible on the plate, we were told he'd ask the manager. This is when the server, Ricardo, never returned. Honestly, I could go on and on but what stuck with me most, aside from Ricardo's rude service, was how the flavor of the food we did receive and eat had also gone down. Jefferson tried to rectify it and make it better but the damage had been done. Jefferson was sweet and we appreciated his willingness to assist. I ended up crossing Ricardo's name off the tip because everything I was leaving was only meant for Jefferson and the last 7 minutes of our visit. I will not be back. Too bad, it was local. Wanted to try everything on the menu but we decided on the chicken fattoush salad, chicken shawarma, hummus and cheese rolls. Everything was so good and definitely tasted authentic. There was a lunch meeting with several women at 2 adjoined tables. We changed our order to take out for both reasons. We ordered Potato Boreg, Lule Kebab plate and Salmon fillet. We asked for Voss Sparkling Water but got Flat. So that was a bit bummer... Potato Boreg - There were 4 of them and they are good size. Wanted to have a bit more fillings but tasted good. It was like Indian Samosa but shaped like a taco. Lule Kebab - Good seasoning. Lule was tendered and juicy. Wish they put Hummus instead of grilled veggies as sides. Also it would had been nice to have turnip pickles too. But those need to be ordered as a separate dishes. Rice was tasty. This is our go to Mediterranean spot. The food is flavorful and delicious. My daughters approve of the food here. Our favorite dish is the chicken kabobs with extra pita bread. They include a roasted tomato and pepper in the plate. The staff is friendly and attentive. Unfortunately, we started coming here when the pandemic began and we never had a chance to experience this restaurant before that. We order from this restaurant once a week or so.
