There are so many no-kill shelters around and yet this shelter chooses to operate as a kill shelter when there are so many organizations and resources available nationwide to promote no-kill status. Really, SHAME on them for euthanizing healthy and loving animals!

One of the things we liked most about Sarah's Pet Corner is that we didn't have to leave our puppy in a place where he'd be stuck in a tiny cage with little socialization and exercise. After his stay, she provided us with homemade puppy treats, a "report card" of how he did and a dvd slideshow with pictures of him playing. You can tell that she genuinely has a passion for what she does. I know that Brewer had a blast while he was there....he was so tired when we picked him up that he cuddled up with me and slept on my lap for the very first time. Being an open intake shelter brings so many challenges…read morebut compared to the local open intake shelter in my original hometown of Miami-Dade County, Fulton County Animal Services is doing the best they can for the animals that end up in their facility. I was thinking of adding another dog to my little zoo at home and started surfing their website. I love how most of the dogs on their site have high quality pictures and some of them are even adorned with cute bandanas or accessories. This shows me that they truly care and are doing their best to show the dogs in a good light to improve their chances of finding their human. I saw several dogs of interest online that I easily saved to my favorites on the account I created. Then I went to the shelter a few days later to meet some of those dogs in person. When I got there, I checked in at the front where they explained where to go to see the dogs and how the process works. I looked at every dog there that day and narrowed it down to 2 candidates even though it was love at first sight with one of them. I knew Titan was the one but wanted to see both dogs out of their cages to be sure. Both dogs were beautiful but Titan was perfect for me. However, it was my existing dog, Rex, who had to have the final say. They suggested to me that I could do a trial adoption of 30 days to see if he is a good fit for my household, which was exactly what I needed to feel more secure about the decision to take him home without knowing if Rex would approve or how Titan would react to my cats. I am happy to report that Titan (now Kane) is officially in his forever home. He won Rex over and though the cats and my other older rescue dog are not thrilled about the new addition, Kane has been great about ignoring them and not causing any trouble. I had 30 days to decide but went online after about 4 days to pay the very reasonable adoption fee of $85 and finalize the adoption. Kane was neutered and microchipped before I picked him up. They gave him to me with a ziploc bag of the food he had been eating, a stuffed bear, antibiotics for the surgery recovery, some pills for a skin condition he has, one dose of his heartworm/tick/flea medication, and a who rescued who magnet for my car. I have adopted from shelters before and never received so many things with my dog, so that was a nice touch. The work they do at this shelter is heart wrenching. It is so hard to care for so many animals and even harder to find them quality homes where they will have a chance for a good life. I appreciate the entire staff at this facility and the hard work they put in to help the animals in their care. For the general public, I hope that you will spay and neuter your pets to help curb the overpopulation problem and that when you are ready to add a furbaby to your home that you adopt rather than shop because you will literally be saving a life. If you want to help but aren't sure if you can commit long term, consider fostering, trial adoptions, or even taking a dog out for the weekend only just to give it some relief. I encourage you to visit the shelter and meet some of the dogs in person. There are so many beautiful souls there that need you and you may just find that you need them too.

After signing in and walking around, I returned to the front desk to let them know I was interested in a dog named Rico. I was told to sit in the lobby, and despite there being plenty of staff members and volunteers around while I was the only person waiting, it still took over 20 minutes for someone to come help me meet the dog one on one. Once someone finally came out, I was handed paperwork and informed I wouldn't be able to pick Rico up until the 11th, which was completely fine with me. I was also interested in another dog and wanted to foster first to see how the dog would adjust in my home and how the behavior would be before committing to adoption. Instead of encouraging that, I received a surprising amount of pushback. Staff repeatedly tried to convince me to adopt immediately. I explained that I did not currently have a crate, which is why I asked about fostering and whether they could provide one temporarily. I was then told I could not foster the dog specifically because they believed I would end up adopting him anyway. That logic genuinely made no sense to me. Someone is standing in the shelter willing to take a dog home, give it a safe environment, spend time, money, and energy on it, and potentially adopt -- yet they were turned away over asking for a crate and wanting to foster first. At the end of the day, it left me questioning whether the priority is truly getting these dogs into loving homes. Potential adopters and fosters should feel supported, educated, and encouraged -- not discouraged.

And why would I want a credit when I am being cheated out of money?? When the business I have supported for six yrs referred customers too is not backing me on something that is their fault. During check-in, I had multiple verbal conversations with your front desk employee regarding additional services for my dog. Each time the subject came up, I clearly stated that I did not want any extra services added. I specifically remember saying no because I live paycheck to paycheck and was trying to keep costs down. At no point did I knowingly agree to extra services. If your policy is that only the written contract matters regardless of what is verbally discussed, then your staff should be trained to go line-by-line through the paperwork clearly and accurately instead of having conversations that directly contradict what the customer is saying. I take responsibility for not rechecking every line before signing, but your business also has a responsibility to ensure customers are not being verbally told one thing while paperwork reflects another. A customer should be able to trust that when they repeatedly say "no" to extra services, those services are not added anyway. I am asking you to take responsibility for the failures in communication and handling of this situation. From my perspective, I was charged for services I explicitly declined, and I find that unacceptable. Even more so the owners response to their business.

Also, their name is a misnomer. Many of the posted cats are not even remotely "feral" rescues. My last conversation with an employee/volunteer went south when I started asking too many questions and trying to set up a meet appointment. Lady was very rude & evasive. I point-blank asked if the cat had already been adopted. She would not give me an answer or set up a time to meet. I found my dealings with this org very odd especially for a rescue non-profit. I adopted a rescue cat from an animal shelter & had zero problems.

I had text messages to me encouraging me to come to the counseling sessions and very warm messages asking if there was anything they could do further. The counseling service and session they provided was great and needed.
