Shrimp scallop bisque was good but the $25 lobster BLT was horrible... lobster ( frozen I later learned) was dry, tough, and tasteless.

As others have said, this place is a "joint" in the best sense. Unpretentious, gruff, but friendly, gritty, but not dirty, filled with hard-working folks, who provide some of the best food you'll ever get for the price, especially on the east end of LI. My lobster sandwich, with generous chunks of lobster, butter, fresh, sliced tomato (perfect tomato), lettuce and bacon on a brioche roll, was sublime. Their fries were also great. The service was great, the ambiance was cool, but the food was just bad! I had their special fish (weakfish) which was very bland and was cooked with excessive amounts of butter which made me feel almost queasy. The "mashed potatoes" it came with were also with excessive amounts of butter and no other seasonings and were watery (maybe from butter). The zucchini chips appetizer was strange as the zucchini were cut very thickly and the batter was heavy and maybe their oil was not changes since the zucchini were quite dark (not nice, light, and crispy). read more

Not a fan of this place. Yet another place in Montauk where the bartender can't be bothered. We always prefer to sit at the bar and eat. However upon arriving, the bartender didn't even look up from what they were doing. We asked for a wine list as we were hoping to order a bottle of wine. The bartender seemed so annoyed so we each ordered a glass. The bartender then proceeded to put a check in front of us as if we were supposed leave. This was a great authentic experience sans the "New York City" types which only enhanced our overall opinion of the place. Great pub feel ,quirky hilarious signs. Terrifically prepared fresh fish and cold beer. The homemade desserts were noteworthy !!!.The waitress was a true sweetheart and made us feel like regulars .We will be back. read more

This place is a DIVE........ with the best food! My wife, kids and I started with the MUST HAVE NACHOS, kids had burgers, they were huge! My wife had the eggplant sandwich and I had the tuna melt (not your mothers tuna melt) a real tuna steak medium rare and oh so good. Don't forget to leave room for the homemade dessert. This place never disappoints! Expect to be entertained right off the bat with the Docks crazy decorations and upfront signage. No cell phones or unruly kids! It's a small place that doesn't have room for that nonsense. The menu isn't large but accompanied by an equally big specials board. Food is consistent and VERY good. I went to the Dock with my friends. It was our first time in Montauk. We went towards Gosman's Dock but most restaurants were closed since we went a little early in the season. The season doesn't get started until Memorial Day weekend. The Dock was the only restaurant open that was somewhat affordable ($10-$20). I ordered the Montauk Clam Chowder (Tomato based) - it was excellent - gave a lot of clams which I loved. The tuna fish melt was amazing. Cooked to medium rare perfection on an English muffin! It was excellent. I also tried the South hampton beer which is a local beer. It was light and good. All in all, I was very satisfied. read more

The best dive in Montauk. Tuna steak and mussels are each fantastic and I challenge you to find a better burger on the South Fork. I had turkey burger sliders the last time I was there, and these, like the burgers were excellent. read more

Long overdue review. I had lunch at The Dock on July 4th. We sat at the bar, the food (seafood of course) and drinks were great, bartender was so nice and accommodating and the divey vibe was perfect. The owner was very entertaining. This place rocks. The tuna melt is awesome. The tuna melt was absolutely fantastic no sinu which means it is high grade and fresh. The mussels were very good too. Baked clams need to be overhauled. The breading was wet and the clam was fishy. read more

A true salty dog restaurant. Old fashion fish restaurant bar which brings you back in time but offers the freshest catch at fair pricing. We had the clams casino, a greek salad and both were very good. The swordfish was cooked perfectly with little fuss but you could taste the freshness. The sole was also very good and a generous order. One of the specials was the sea scallops blackened which were also superb. The burger was also very good with home cut fries. Great find. Cool, friendly, no nonsense, casual vibe. Highly recommend the lobster rolls. I've eaten a lot of lobster rolls and this was one of the best. Friend had the flounder which she loved and devoured. Even though it was on the dinner menu, they were very accommodating and made for lunch. Wait staff was friendly and attentive. Food arrived fast. Where we were seated (by the telephone booth) was a little chilly but nothing a hot cup of tea or soup could not remedy. It WAS a raw and cold day. I will definitely be returning. I had dinner on Thursday Aug 13th with my mother and a friend who raved about the restaurants in Montauk. We had an amazing lunch in Sag Harbour at The American Hotel and looked forward to our dinner in Montauk. It was late when we. stopped our exploring to have dinner. We were directed by a stranger who recommended The Dock. My mother ordered broiled flounder and when it arrived I noticed she was moving it around on her plate. She offered me some and after a bite I realized why she was moving it around on her plate. It was very dry and boring. We asked the waitress to return the dish because it was extremely dry and poorly seasoned. The chef came to the table with much attitude and informed us that it was an expensive piece of fish and he had used white wine and butter that was costly. We would have to be charged at least half to cover the cost. I have never experience that EVER and was offended by such behavior. My mother was numb. She ordered some soup and when the check came he had charged her for the inedible dish. Thank goodness for the delicious lunch at The American Hotel. A highlight was the white gazpacho. Day 2 Breakfast Good smoothie, good banana bread and bad coffee at Jonis. Lunch Everyone in our party went to a pizza place. I think the name was Mr. Sausage for a slice. I live in Brooklyn and am a pizza snob so I went back to Joni's. Dinner Went to THE DOCK. Liked the local, gritty atmosphere and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. There actually were some local guys sitting near us having an obnoxious conversation but that just added to the salty character of the place. Unfortunately the food was not good. The flounder and fries tasted like they were fried in old, rancid oil and the slaw was soggy. Also there was no wine except house red and white and not one local beer. On the plus side the home made key lime pie was good and served with fresh whipped cream. Bottom line: DO NOT EAT AT THE DOCK . The exterior will get you thinking at first. Once you go in, You can tell why locals love this spot. Service is great and the food is good. Being a city boy, for some reason I ordered the buffalo wings and the raw clams. The clams were great. The wings, they were wings. But I love the atmosphere and everyone is friendly. My wife and I love everything about The Dock, and we usually celebrate our anniversary in Montauk right after Labor Day. We had lunch here on Sept 3: We both had the tuna burger....but when I tell you this simple meal was easily the best we've had of any kind in some time would not be an understatement: Perfectly prepared tuna steak on a warm English muffin with an heirloom tomato that was itself the tastiest tomato I've ever eaten! The waitress told us that George gets his fresh produce delivered out east, and there's no way we could eat another store-bought one again. We rarely if ever order dessert, but had to at least try the home-made chocolate peanut butter pie, and that, too, was incredible! The Dock is a very special place, and George might have a larger than life reputation for being a "character", but anyone who cares this much about a "simple tuna burger with a tomato" really knows what he is doing and cares about his customers. talk about a diamond in the rough! nestled in a quiet corner just off the beaten path near the famed gosman's, the dock is anything but pretentious - what they lack in sophistication (who gives a sh*t anyway?) they more than make up for with ultra friendly service and outstanding food offerings...a journey through the front door leads to a friendly local bar with a small dining area, roughly a dozen or so tables...it's the kind of place locals who are in the know clearly flock to, as there's a friendly buzz all around of well acquainted patrons and staff...and even if you're a first timer like me, you'll quickly be made to feel welcome by the wonderful staff here who are very eager to please and accommodate your requests...if all of this weren't enough, the food is fantastic too! easily one of the best lobster bisques i've ever had, it was enhanced 10 fold by the tabasco my waitress brought out with it - just the right kick to truly put it over the top...fried seafood was also fabulous, particularly the scallops & oysters that were cooked to absolute perfection...overall a great little place to grab a bite, a drink and a smile read more
