Talk about a hidden gem. One of the best little finds in Montauk. Crab corn chowder was delish and so were the fish and chips. Get a painkiller too!

My brother and I were on a nostalgia tour of Montauk, and ended up here after walking around Gosman's Dock. We had wanted to go to what's now Mary Lou's but used to be a restaurant we went to all the time on family vacations. The security guards and swarms of influencers in sparkly dresses and cowboy boots made us quickly realize this wouldn't be an option for dinner. We started walking back toward Gosman's and noticed The Dock tucked away on a side street. We decided to grab a drink at the bar and regroup on next steps. The ambiance here is very casual, its a busy spot with a large indoor bar and a handful of indoor and outdoor tables. Our bartender was a master at tending to the rush and took care of us quickly. While we were deciding what to do next, we made conversation with a local Gosman's fish monger who let us know the food here was worth staying for, and even went as far as to ask one of the staff members for the name of what the restaurant next door used to be for us as we were trying hard to remember. I'm so glad we stayed, because the food was really on point here. Clam chowder was hearty and had plenty of clams. Their steamed clams were incredible, fresh and packed with lots of chopped garlic in a broth that you'll want to drink. The star of the show here is the tuna melt: a giant fresh tuna steak served on an English muffin with cheese and some of the best fries I've had at a restaurant in ages. Glad to have made another core memory here in Montauk at The Dock.

Not dog-friendly at all. Don't come here, even if you have a service dog. Their window sign says "No screaming kids," yet there were still children running around and yelling. They should probably update the sign to also say "No service dogs." On top of that, many of the items listed on the menu were no longer available. Total waste of time coming here. We waited 30 minutes in the cold only to be told we couldn't eat inside or even out on the patio.

We sat outside after about a 30 minute wait, but no complaints it's worth the wait and more! The service was attentive and professional you can tell these are career servers they move like a well oiled machine. Now onto the food, the Jalapeño poppers are 11/10 I would come back just for those. The special fish sandwich was very fresh, light and well done. The mahi mahi bites were breaded and had a buffalo wing vibe but a very generous portion. The nachos were great and the mozzarella sticks were solid. This place has a great local small town vibe and the food is spectacular.

Super solid spot! I love the Phony Negroni. So nice to see non- alcoholic options like that at a divey place. I've had it before and made me so happy to cool off with a mocktail after a hot beach day. Clam chowder and fried calamari were great to start. And the soft shell crab sandwich was really tasty too. The sauce it came with complemented the deep fried crab very nicely. I enjoyed dinner here. The only thing is that it's pricey! $150 for 2 people including tip

Know that there is picnic table seating outdoors on nice days or a pretty big parking lot to enjoy your meal. I'm sure it gets packed during peak summer hours. The portions are huge! For 3 people we ordered lobster bisque, tuna bites, lobster Mac and cheese, a tuna poke bowl, sweet potato fries, and regular fries. Everything is made fresh to order and it was delicious! Literally the best lobster bisque I ever had. And the tuna bites were so unique - fresh tuna, breaded and deep fried. We aren't local but we will be back every time we are on the east end. The New England Clam Chowder was really delicious, one of the best I've had out here. Lobster Bisque was just okay for me, the Kickin Crab Corn Chowder was true to its name with a nice kick. We also had steamers which were fresh and delicious, and a softshell crab sandwich that was fried to perfection. Pricey but hey, it's Montauk. I wish I'd been hungrier because their tomato lobster special sounded out of this world. Everything was really solid. I'd come back.

It was less than a 10-minute drive from where we were staying, and going there was the best decision! They were offering two lobster rolls for $41, and they were worth every penny. Each roll was generously filled with large chunks of fresh lobster, a little diced celery, and just the right amount of mayo. They weren't overly dressed or packed with unnecessary fillers--the lobster was definitely the star. One roll filled me up, so I packed the second one in a cooler and brought it home to my dad in Nassau County. He loved it and gave it a 5/5 too! They also sell baked goods, and the chocolate chip cookies were delicious. Just keep in mind that there is no seating and you cannot eat on the premises because it's an active driveway. Everything is to go, but the beach is only a short drive away and makes the perfect place to enjoy your food. If you're looking for fresh local seafood, generous lobster rolls, and a no-frills hidden gem, Bennett Shellfish is absolutely worth the visit!

Everything tasted incredibly fresh. I started with the fluke sushi, which I'd never tried before, and it was delicious. (I wish I could accurately describe sushi/fish in better detail, but I can't so just trust me on this one!) For my main course, I ordered the hot lobster roll, and as an avid lobster roll-lover, it did not disappoint. The lobster was served in generous, chunky pieces with just the right amount of butter. It came with fries that were perfectly crispy, though I do wish they had been seasoned a bit more. The restaurant overlooks the inlet, making it the perfect spot to relax and watch the boats come and go. The staff was welcoming, and the service was excellent from start to finish. They also played great music -- that particular day they were playing country music (a southerner's dream!). Last but not least, another bonus is the location. There are several charming little shops just steps away, making it easy to browse before or after your meal. My biggest fear is it's going to be super crowded the next time I'm back in Montauk and I won't get a table. With that being said, I absolutely cannot wait to eat another amazing lobster roll with that lovely view! 5 stars for the lobster roll, 5 stars for the view, 5 stars for the hospitality!

Very Disappointing Experience at Salivar's…read more We went to Salivar's around 5 PM and sat at the back outdoor bar. They had just opened for the evening, and we were the only customers there at the time. Unfortunately, the experience went downhill quickly. We started with two drinks. My boyfriend ordered the $18 lobster bisque, and when I asked him how it was, his response was basically, "so-so." For $18, we definitely expected better. I ordered the peel-and-eat shrimp, and I immediately noticed something wasn't right. I was having such a hard time peeling them that I called over one of the waitresses who knows us because we've been regular customers. I showed her the shrimp and said, "Look, I can't even peel these." Her response was that they must have been frozen. That really bothered me. This is Montauk in peak season, and when you're paying Montauk prices, you expect fresh, properly prepared seafood. I mentioned the shrimp to the bartender, Alex, and to his credit, he removed them from our bill. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was watching the bartender appearing to hide the fact that he was vaping while working behind the bar. His behavior also seemed off to us. Regardless of the reason, it did not come across as professional and certainly isn't something I expect to see while sitting at a restaurant bar. We eat out frequently in Montauk and are regular customers at many local establishments, so we know what good food and good service in this town can be. Unfortunately, this experience was extremely disappointing. After this visit, we will not be returning to Salivar's.
