My friends and I have gone a few times and the bartenders etc. are friendly. Although, last night myself and four of my friends gave the bouncer $60 for the $10 cover and expected change back ($10). He refused to give us the change and laughed in our faces. Very disrespectful and rude. It was not even about the $10 it was the laughing in our faces and saying "Look I'm not trying to make $10 off of you", in that case he should have just given us the change. Every other time I have gone there was a different man collecting money very friendly along with the bouncers. This man just ruined the experience due to his rudeness. read more

Of the many awful ideas that pop into the head during the average human lifetime, "going to Dockside on a Saturday night" might be the worst among them. Unless, that is, you're into: cover charges; bottom shelf drinks of every variety; shitty cover bands; and awful bartenders that are understaffed and don't even pretend to care about 75% of their patrons--the majority of whom are ex-Greek-lifers who never bothered to grow up. During the summer, there is almost always a cover. But it's always worth going in. There are about four bars and three rooms. The first room when you walk in has a teeny stage and sometimes they'll have live music. Otherwise, the stage is usually for people who really want to dance. The bar in that room always has the slowest service. Walking in is where the main show plays. Friday nights, DJ Face spins awesome house, Saturdays is saved for a live band. The bigger bathrooms are in the back corner of this room and are usually cleaner than the ones out front. Then they have an outside deck and bar with boats surrounding the area. Friday night is always my favorite night to go in. It does get crowded but if you're looking to party, Dockside is the place to be. read more

Easily the most overrated bar in Newport. The cover charges are rarely under $20, the drink prices are through the roof, and to top it off, the staff (from manager down to the bouncers) is incredibly rude. I've lived in Newport for over 2 years and have given dockside multiple chances, but it continues to disappoint. They seem to understand that they are one of the few bars close to/on the water, so they don't feel the need to treat customers with respect. Please! Do yourself a favor and avoid this bar. They pick you up and the door and shake you until all of your money falls out, then they treat you like trash. There's plenty of other bars in Newport who will actually earn your business. read more

Just an update for any future Dockside-goers. They completely overhauled the bathrooms, and they did a great job with it. Ladies, you won't have to wait in line for the loo for an hour anymore. The size of the crowds has only swelled though, so if you're not into over-capacity rooms, you might be better off somewhere more sedate. The bartenders here are still pretty cool, though. We came here after some rememberence events for my late uncle (he loved Dockside). Unfortunately we were asked to go through an empty queue (which brought us back to where we started. Then we were sat by the water, which was plesant, and told "the server will be right with you." Other servers, hosts, and bartenders were busily cleaning tables and seating patrons (who were not recieving service). At one point we asked around and not one person had been greated. A host came to clean a table and we were compelled to ask, "servers do work here right?" To which she replied cordially, "yes they do" and went to the bar. She told the bartenders, whom all looked up at us, then turned around and continued to work on whatever they were doing. The restaurant wasnt even busy.... As someone who has spent 15+ years in hospitality and food & beverage, at every level, I can honestly say this was the worst service I have had in over a decade. I have only walked out of one restaurant in my life. This would be the second. Zero stars, 2 thumbs down, would not recomend. It's obvious we were not wanted there! read more

I can say with certainty that this is the worst bar in Newport. The music is almost offensively bad, and the service somehow worse. Worst of all, the crowd this bar attracts is worse than your average criminal line up. Expect to walk through puddles of vomit and spilled drink; that's the unfortunate norm for a night at Dockside. As a final note, I will say the staff deserves better. The owners clearly have no regard for the safety of their guests, or the workers. Truly a terrible experience. read more

Normally I don't leave reviews but I'm here right now and I am with some DJ called DJ Face. He is currently "scratching" while talking to somebody. I don't think he knows how to operate the ones and twos. It's kind of sad that over 4 hours his headphones have not gone on...thought that was a prerequisite for a Dj. Place is a joke. Ordered drinks that came to $23. My boyfriend gave the bartender $40. We stood there and waited for our change, literally had to ASK for it. Bartender stupidly says, "oh, I thought that was my tip..." Um no, we are not giving you a $17 tip.. She then proceeded to tell us she couldn't give us the change back once she put it in the tip bin and had to get a manager. So, we waited another 5 minutes until the manager finally gave us our change. Literally ridiculous. This place is waste of time and money. read more

I have lived in Newport for almost 20 years. My friends and I have frequented the Dockside throughout the years. But, over the past 2 years...they have raised cover charges and drink prices astronomically giving nothing in return for it. My most recent visit...St Pat's day this past weekend (3/13/10) They charged a $40.00 cover charge which no one knew about until you waitied in line..in the rain and made it to the doorman...they had NO heaters on the outside portion..we froze...it was RAINING inside..leaks everywhere..but the best part..they painted the floor red and did not do it properly...everyone was COVERED in red paint and when we approached the owners about it...they dismissed us all. Ughs...jeans...ruined...TONS of people SO upset at managements lack of responsibility...I will never EVER go back. I only gave them one star because I could not choose NO stars. read more

The Dockside is a rite of passage for those venturing into the Newport Nightlife scene. - no doubt. The scene was good, great location, solid band - however, the process of drink ordering was a disaster. Just as heads up - do not attempt to order a drink from a bartender wearing an Oracle Sailing Jersey. In my experience, this individual did a did such a poor job representing the Oracle Brand that Larry Ellison himself should be informed. 5 days later, I am still upset on the service this guy provided. I should also add I was wrongly charged 88 dollars for 2 beers...I had left my card at the bar to start a tab, and when I wasn't allowed back in to retrieve it, I found that I was grossly overcharged. Thanks Dockside, for hosting a great event, the Fundraiser To Support The Recovery Fund For Heather Abbott. Over 1500 people, 3 bands, cars parking everywhere, and yes it was a bit crowded, but handled well. It was a great spot, and I couldn't imagine it going any better anywhere else. read more

I went there for the first time this past Saturday and was shocked to find myself standing at the bar patiently waiting with my card in hand, and after 45 minutes still not being addressed or acknowledged. From what I saw there were 4 bartenders working. Although one or two of them seemed to do well with the high demand but I found it more than likely that could not handle the volume of occupants. I was disappointed to find myself having paid cover waiting 45 minutes to not be acknowledged in the slightest. I don't know if the bartenders only tend to "their" specific sections of the bar because one bartender did in fact make eye contact with me numerous amount of times over the 45 minutes but failed to see if she could be of service etc. There were about 4-5 people around me dealing with the same issue and we got inpatient and decided spending money here was not worth it, and we left only to have a very disappointing Saturday night read more

I am so not one to complain but I downloaded this app just to explain how horribly run this restaurant is... Not only did I wait at the bar for 25+ minutes ... NO ONE came over to me and offered to get me anything. Granted , it's a Sunday and it's the brunch hours... And it's a slow day. Since no one decided to serve me at the bar because the 3 men that were behind the bar were huddled in a corner chatting.. I decided to get a table. Beside the host being MIA for a good 20+ minutes I decided to sit myself. Let me remind you, it is literally me and 2 other tables tables in this restaurant. I had to wave the waitress down 15 minutes after I sat down. Unbelievable. I ordered a clam chowder. Keep in mind, this place is not cheap. It's $16 for an omelette ... So in my head this should be a some what decent looking plate. My soup came out in a PLASTIC bowl and plastic plate underneath... Considering this place is expensive this is at an all time low. My waitress has yet to come back and ask how it came out. Which, my first bite I had a sandy crunch in it... Confused ? Yes. There is no clams in this soup so I'm also confused what I just ordered. This bar is atrocious and its managers must be retarded. I was there for St. Paddy's Day and they painted the floors with a "water-soluble" paint. After an hour the floors were a mess of paint. It got all over my shoes, my jeans, and my coat! This is after I paid a $40 cover to get in. The roof leaked the entire time too. I tried washing my clothes 3 times. They are still stained. WTF? DJ face might be the worst DJ I've ever seen. All prerecorded music. My college roommate and I have precorded better music than him and we have no skill at all. Extremely poor. Would not recommend unless you like music that sucks. read more
