Oh my goodness, this place was fabulous. A Latin fusion concept that knocked it outta the park! We ordered shrimp rangoons with Thai chili dipping sauce. I had the bbq brisket nachos and my fiancé had the Korean tacos with house made kimchi. We loved it all. The cocktails, forgot to snap a pic of those. Me and some girls were in town for the weekend and wanted to go out for one of their birthdays to celebrate. She loves Mexican food so we chose here. The menu had plenty of options for all of our tastes. I made a mistake on the reservation, but they were still able to accommodate us. The noise was a bit overwhelming, even though it wasn't very crowded, but that's only because it was a smaller space. We all got a cocktail to start and it was perfect. The service here is exceptional! The waitress was extremely kind and attentive. Went for taco Tuesday in the early evening and it wasn't too busy. Outdoor seating was gorgeous, sat outside in the upper deck patio. Chips and salsa were incredible. Could tell that the chips were homemade. Salsa wasn't spicy but had a distinct flavor and taste. The gringo tacos were really crispy, but much smaller than I expected. Not a whole lot of ground beef inside or other fixings. Not sure even with the taco Tuesday deal if the two tacos were worth $7. The BLAT tacos were crispy fried pork belly, this tasted really delicious, and went well with the crema and pickled cabbage. Rice and beans were pretty standard for a Mexican spot. Came with a little bit of homemade pico too! Overall not the most authentic Mexican spot, but pretty decent for Newport and you can't beat the ambiance, service, and the views. read more

I indulged in the flavorful Korean BBQ pork belly tacos and Crispy Brussels with Ponzu and Garlic for appetizers--delicious! Accompanied by a generously poured margarita served in a mason jar glass, the traffic involved in getting here became much more manageable. While perusing the menu, I made mental notes of other appetizers and entrees for a future visit. The Arugula & Street Corn Salad caught my eye, and I'm intrigued by the tempting description of Pimientos de Sal (shishito peppers with aioli). Diego's also boasts a full Vegan menu, not just a few options, which I find commendable. Oyster Mushroom tacos, Roasted Beet and Butternut Squash tacos, and Buffalo Cauliflower Burrito--all sound appetizing, even for a non-vegan like me. They also offer a complete Gluten-Free menu. My boyfriend and I visited in February 2023 to celebrate our 2 year anniversary! Our first date was in February 2021 at Diego's over margaritas and nachos. So nice we could come back here to celebrate. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. The food is authentic, flavorful, and always tastes fresh. We love sitting upstairs in the summer time to see the view. This place is a great location for big celebrations or everyday dining - and everything in between. Bonus points for the on-site parking, which is hard to find at many Newport restaurants. We've been coming to Diego's since it opened, and it's always at the top of our list when we're going out. The food was okay, very small portion sizes and a bit pricey for how much food you get. The drinks on the other hand, very very good cocktails. Never had cinnamon with tequila, but the harvest margaritas were amazing. The service was really good, there was a 45 minute wait for the dining room so we were sat at the bar. The bartender was very attentive to us , and we didn't have to wait long to be waited on. Thursdays are karaoke at 8 pm, so it was pretty lively and loud. Outside wasn't open due to the cold NE weather, but the inside has high tops, booths, and bar spots. Natalie has been our server a few times. She's friendly and attentive. David, the bartender, gets it right every time. He is always busting his butt behind the bar bringing the creative libations on the menu to life. Our waiter was very nervous and quiet. She brought he our drinks and one person in our party order a sherley temple and it was just sprite with a cherry. The waiter was very confused when we told her. She didn't know how to make one! We waited for almost and hour for our food. The service was awful and we were waiting for very long for simple requests. As well the price you pay for the food is not matching up to the quality. I have been coming to Diego's Barrio Cantina for years with my girlfriends whenever I am in town, each visit it is a must on our to do list! We love the low key atmosphere that is not as hectic as downtown Newport, but still has great food and drinks at reasonable prices! We always start with nachos, this time we got veggie which were delicious- they were uniquely topped with broccoli, brussel sprouts, and corn in addition to the standard peppers, pico de gallo, cheese, and guacamole. We love their margaritas, for $10 in a pint glass you can't beat it. For my entree I had their tradicional chicken burrito bowl, the taste was nothing special but still good! I am a huge Mexican food fan and was initially excited to try Diego's Barrio Cantina. I used to love going to the main Diego's location in Bowen's Wharf in downtown Newport. Unfortunately, I was extremely underwhelmed by the food quality and taste, which has gone significantly downhill in recent years. I used to be a huge fan of Deigo's nachos, something they have always had on their menu. However, the nachos today were cold and tasteless. The chips were soggy from the sauces that were drenched on top, and tasted as if they had the dish lying out for a while. The Queso Fundido appetizer we ordered was decent, but nothing special. The chips tasted soggy and stale. The queso was warm, but lacked in flavor. I was not impressed, and would not order it again. There is plenty of parking space in their private lot, and the staff are friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself is extremely clean and decorated very tastefully. Unfortunately, the pleasant atmosphere and service did not outweigh the tasteless and over-priced food. I do not think I will return here for lunch again. read more

Diego's isn't Tex-Mex. It isn't Moe's, it isn't Chipotle. I see a lot of reviews from folks going to Diego's with expectations and being disappointed. It's not fancy, it's low key, super hip decorations, excellent customer service, strong GOOD cocktails, and yummy fresh food. I have been eating all over Newport for 5 weeks and this was my absolute favorite thing (aside from Pour Judgements burger) that I have put in my mouth. Could I have made the bowl at home similar to this? Yes. Minus the super yummy sprout/baby lettuce topping. But that is exactly why Diego's is so freaking tasty. I do love me some Diego's, beware service is routinely slow but since it's beautiful inside and view overlooks the reservoir. I am somewhat a local, visiting my family often, and have not had a bad meal, ever. The Poblano Rellanos was delicious! I would eat that dish daily of I could. The street corn is enough for 2/3 people and off cob which I prefer. We had chips/guacamole, burritos, enchiladas which were completely enjoyable. The drinks were on point, we had margs, sangria is a family favorite here. The kids hot dog was straight from 7/11 spindle, kiddo didn't even touch it and server sadly didn't seem to even notice. A lesson was learned by the hot dogs owner to order tacos at a Mexican restaurant. All good here at Diego's, unless you order the hotdog but maybe it was just a fluke. read more

Wow - Toto, we ain't in Kansas anymore (and certainly not Texas)... This is a lame excuse for TexMex - I expect they make 80% of their business during tourist season. The positives - free parking, good service, and clean. But you came for the food and drink. The margaritas at $9 - $12 were OK but overpriced. No salt rim or an offer to do so. We decided to split the daily special "bacon and jalapeno" guacamole ($12). It was a decent size portion but absolutely no spice/flavor in spite of the additions - maybe don't completely de-seed the jalapeños. Chips were from a bag. We both ordered the chicken tacos. They were actually decent but tortilla was cold and no choice of corn or flour. I requested some hot sauce and was served bottles of Tabasco(!) and Cholla - they don't have time to make their own?? The side dishes were terrible - some sort of slaw with no flavor and their attempt at "pickled vegetables" failed. So as you can tell - very disappointing and no repeat visits on the horizon. Maybe the owner and chef can visit an authentic TexMex spot and get some pointers. I had really high expectations for this place. I was let down. The ceviche was basically a cup of tomato juice with a few cut up pieces of shrimp served with cold flour tortillas.
