Came here on Sunday around noon, during an event downtown. Decided to stop by out of convenience-- there was no line and seemed to have solid reviews. But I immediately regretted it. I got the Chipotle chicken and my boyfriend for the slammer. The slammer was okay. it wasn't amazing, but it was fathomable. The Chipotle chicken sandwich, however, was a disgusting chicken mush slapped between a sandwich. I took a few bites of it and was offset by the weird texture of the chicken. So my best friend of 30+ years, his name is Don. Throughout the years he's established a good rep for himself as a good cook. Yeah...he can get down in the kitchen. As I was looking for a good sandwich place to order through, I came across this place. Tha San'mitch: I got the chicken pesto. I'm a sucka for some good pesto. No pine-nuts though...ICK. Unwrapped the viddles and was overwhelmed with the aroma of goodness. The sandwich is served hot with red onion, tomatoes, chicken and lettuce. The lettuce was finely shredded, which was cool. It added a nice texture to the flow of the sandwich. The pesto was flavorful and complemented the sandwich with grace. Tha side: I'm a potato salad fool. If your potato salad is on point, you're good in my book. Don's deli potato salad is on point in my book. All the flavors blended well together and no single ingredient over powered the next. I have to admit that when I got here, I didn't think I'd end up giving the place such a high rating. First, the decor is pretty janky. I think this used to be a Sandwich Spot, and they didn't last long. Not a fan of massively tall counters where I can't see food being prepared. Also wasn't sure how to order... turns out you order at the register and wait. It was lunchtime and very chaotic, so I was beginning to wonder if going here was a good choice. And it was. I was with two coworkers. I had the Slammer with jalapenos and it was really good. Additionally, it was only $9 which is a pretty solid deal for a sandwich like that. I've been to this location as well as in San Jose, and every time I order a sandwich I get stale bread and MINIMAL meat. Today I built my own sandwich (since ordering off the menu never worked for me) and I added avocado to my sandwich.. or at least I paid for the addition because I don't see or taste any avocado. I've also got to give them credit for their consistently stale bread and skimpy meat. If there is another sandwich spot in the vicinity - go there. I love a good sandwich place, and the Don's Deli is exactly that! Don't be intimidated or put off by their huge menu: they may offer a lot, but they know how to do all of it super well. I've had The Luau and the Beach Boy. Both were not stingy on the meat and full of flavor. The Luau is perfect for a bit of sweet and savory, and the Beach Boy leans more towards a classical sandwich. I noticed the Beach Boy advertises "spicy ranch" but I didn't get any inkling of spice - honestly, the sandwich was so good, I'm not inclined to dock off any stars at all! Dutch crunch was okay. Onion rings were nice and crispy and not too oily; they also didn't break apart as soon as you bit into them, which was nice. I will definitely be heading back for more! read more

Just ordered The Crabby with dutch crunch. Mould on the bottom of the bread and the crab meat tasted off. I gave 2 stars because they immediately refunded me. The sandwich I got was decent and so was the mac. I loved that the price is not crazy expensive like everything else is nowadays. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is because I ordered takeout, and it came in a white paper bag. When I got to my truck and started pulling out my food everything was covered in the cheese sauce! Even the napkins so it was hard to clean up :C. The container for the mac wasn't leaking so that wasn't necessarily the problem. Take extra care next time to close the lid properly and not sloppily put in the mac ! I hope this location doesn't raise it's prices soon. I ordered a sandwich via eat24, after a few minutes of not seeing an update of my order, I called to check in on it. The lady who picked up was polite and apologetic for the delay. I didn't mind the delay but appreciated how much she cared. I showed up at the estimated time she gave me and when I got there, she told me they just started on the order. She apologized again and let me have a free bag of chips and a drink. Now onto the sandwich: I ordered The California which has turkey, bacon, avocado, and veggies. Really great sandwich spot! I wish I could order a taste of everything when I visit because those ingredients listed on every option seem to not fail to impress. I ordered the tree hugger sandwich and wow, to get a total veggie sandwich that perfect is impressive. I've had a taste of a lot of different places veggie options and Dons Deli nailed it. I highly recommend trying out what appeals to you when you dine or do take out here. The staff is extremely easy going and on top of their service. I felt very welcomed here and will definitely be returning soon. Used to come here for the weekend special crab meat sandwich but sadly they removed it from the menu after they changed to Dons Deli. First time tried the chicken chipotle. Not bad. But the second time, they run out of Dutch crunch rolls and forgot the turkey in the turkey sandwich. Probably will drive to the other Sandwich Spot locations instead of taking risk here. Extensive menu, good customer service, and decent food at a reasonable price. During my first visit, I ordered The California ($7.99) and a side of Macaroni and Cheese ($2.50). The sandwich came with turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese, avocado, mayonnaise, mustard, herbed olive oil, lettuce, tomatoes, and red onions on a sourdough roll. While messy, The California sandwich offers a myriad of flavors and textures that mesh well together. The avocado, mayonnaise, mustard, and herbed olive oil gives the sandwich enough moisture to help easily slide down your gullet, and the robustness of the bacon gives still shines through among the many ingredients. It's not the best version of The California I've ever had, but it's good enough for 4 out of 5 stars. The macaroni and cheese, while tasty, came in a medium-sized cup that was nearly empty. Imagine a standard plastic fork you get from any lunch spot, now picture a cup of macaroni and cheese only being filled up to the halfway point of the fork's prongs... ...I essentially paid $2.50 for 4 small bites of macaroni and cheese that filled up the cup 35% of the way (3.5 out of 5 stars for taste). During my second, I ordered the Dirty Bird ($8.29) and a side of Macaroni and Cheese. The sandwich came with turkey, cream cheese, avocado, spicy ranch, mayonnaise, herbed olive oil, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and red onions on a sourdough roll. The Dirty Bird was extremely messy and the flavors all mixed together and nothing really stood out. This sandwich was just okay at best, and I'm surprised it's more expensive than The California (2.5 out of 5 stars). As for the macaroni and cheese, the cup was 70% full this time, which is where it should usually be (3.5 out of 5 stars for taste). Note: the manager on duty noticed I was unsatisfied with my macaroni and cheese during my first visit, so he comped me for a cup of macaroni and cheese during my next visit -- thank you for doing that. Regarding the customer service, everyone was very nice to me during both of my visits, and they made sure to acknowledge me as I entered and left the restaurant. I'm not opposed to eating at The Don's Deli again, but the sandwiches haven't wowed me thus far. read more

This is my go-to lunch place! Even with the name change, this place is still my favorite sandwich spot :) I usually order the "spice girl"or "giving thanks". Both awesome and flavorful sandwiches. I've also had the tri tip sandwich and hummm baby which were both tasty as well. I pretty much douse everything with bomb sauce because well... it's bomb! Haha Customer service is superb! They do have a good selection of vegetarian items and any sandwich on their menu can be customized to be vegetarian if you substitute the meat for either a falafel or vegan chicken patty. Used to be the sandwich spot. It is not on the main street, it is next to Philz coffee away from the street. Parking sucks unless you score the one single spot on the street, but you can try and find a spot in the lot across the street but its always packed. Location is modern and plays like pop or top 40 music. Has counters with stools and also tables and chairs. Sandwiches are great. Not going to waste your time explaining sandwiches to you, just consider them higher end than togos or subway type things with prices to match. Worth it to me but some thing 8 dollars for what you get is too much and they might have a point. Raining today but looks like you could eat outside on a nice day which is cool. Right near caltrain of you happen to be getting off Sunnyvale stop. I work and live nearby and loved eating at The Sandwich Spot before they did a remodel to Don's Deli. Never had a problem with the sandwich spot and ate there plenty of times. I went to the Don's Deli for the first time to check it out. It was about 30min til close and we were the only ones that ordered while we were there. I ordered the cold cut sandwich and specifically asked twice for banana peppers on the side. The lady who took my order asked to clarify I did NOT want it on my sandwich and I said yes. When I got it, they were in the sandwich! My boyfriend ordered the Popocini and it came burnt! We noticed something on fire when we were waiting for our food and no one did anything, just let the fire die down on its own. Aside from that, the quality of the sandwiches is still great and I love this spot. Just disappointed that our first experience since they switched to Don's Deli was full of problems. read more

Here's a sandwich spot which you won't regret trying out. Chipotle chicken and Pesto chic were on point. The combo portion sizes are pretty good for the price you are paying. I ordered a roast beef pastrami on Dutch crunch with mayonnaise, mustard, onions, pickles. I literally got one slice of roast beef and one slice of pastrami. When I went inside to ask them if they put one slice of each in a sandwich they said no they do it by ounces. Don't believe them bc if it was by ounces I wouldn't only have one slice of each.
