Every donut we have tried at The Donut Haus is terrific. But - hands DOWN they have THEE best apple fritters ever!! They should have a sign in the window when the fritters are ready and still warm!!! I don't know if they have a powdered donut with apple filling but that would be great if they do. Only place I've been able to get those is Milton's in Middletown. read more

We had absolutely no intention of getting donuts. We were headed home from lunch. As we were driving by we noticed the small green "open" sign glowing, and made the snap decision to stop for a donut. There was one customer when we entered, and three came in after us. Not bad for after lunch. The donuts were still fresh. They had a decent selection for the time. It looked like someone was in the kitchen making something. I tried a maple bar topped with peanuts. The maple was more of a cream than a glaze. It was packed with maple flavor, and helped all the peanuts stay on. These donuts did NOT leave a gross oil taste in my mouth. (I have a tendency for that to happen when I eat donuts, so I don't eat them very often. They also did NOT give me a stomachache.) My husband enjoyed his apple fritter, but was underwhelmed by the Oreo donut. The kids liked their donuts that were filled with cream and topped with chocolate. Various types of other pastries and cookies were also available. The two young men (high school age?) serving us were working. When not helping customers, they were wiping down the tables in the dining area. Speaking of, they have a decent amount of seating. If we are in the area, I could see us stopping by again. read more

I have been visiting The Donut Haus since I was a kid, and I don't think I'll ever have such loyalty to a donut place again! I now take my kids there, and they love it just as much as I do. I was a little worried when the old owners sold the store, but the new owners do a phenomenal job at keeping up with the old recipes. Everything is delicious there, but I personally love the custard and jelly filled the best. Donuts are always super soft, fresh, and aren't overly sweet like a lot of donuts are. Their Boston Creme is pretty stellar and their Oreo donut was great. It was a little pricey than going I to Bills, but if you're looking for something new, you won't be disappointed. read more

In an otherwise boring suburb of the very boring city of Dayton Ohio, the Donut Haus is an incredible treasure and institution that anyone who sometime in the morning finds themselves passing by Springboro on the way to someplace more exciting should do themselves a favor and check out. Featuring both Cakes and Donuts, an assortment of greying regulars (including my dad), coffee mugs of those regulars lining the shelves on the walls and a feeling of time standing still this place is a rare sign of character in a mostly souless suburb. The donuts are excellent too! My favorites are the apple fritters. Not only is there good donuts but also pretty good coffee, that is on par with a cafe or a good diner. Its been so long since I've had their cakes that I don't know if I could give it good judgement, but I seem to remember them being quite good. This is a place that brings up lots of nostalgia. As a child I'd go here with my father as he'd read both the Dayton and Cincinnati papers late on a Sunday morning while I'd look at the Sunday Funnies while drinking an orange juice and enjoying my donut holes. The space is small and intimate, being a remodel of what was formerly a Lawson convenience store. This intimacy of space, combined with the relaxed pace makes this place a trip to another universe of breakfast delights. Going back here just a couple months ago while visiting my family reminded me just how great a place this is and just how little its changed. I could feel time stand still as I enjoyed my coffee and donuts while both my dad and I chatted with the regulars. read more

We tried this shop because our favorite closes for the holidays. My husband picked up donuts and brought them home so I can't speak to interior, coffee, etc.. Overall, it was good and my quality complaints admittedly could be personal preference. The sizes are more than generous. The apple fritters were gigantic and very good. The frosting on the chocolate frosted white cream filled donuts was gritty - too much sugar or not well mixed. The filling was similar to Duncan's, frosting-like and not the light, creamy whipped cream-like consistency I prefer. The jellies were good but the filling was translucent with no hint of real fruit. I would pick this over any chain I've ever been to, but it won't replace my favorite. read more

Me and my family love this place. They always have a great variety of always freshly baked donuts! Your favorites are always available, if you don't see them behind the glass, just ask! They almost always have been in the back. The prices are cheap, even for the chocolate milks or other drinks. It's run by local people which I like. On the weekends the lists can be to the door, or even out the door, but even with a list like that I've never waited over 10 minutes. read more

Went there this morning and donuts looked good, buy ones the girl gave is looked like a train wreck. The creme filled donuts had barely any filling, the powder jelly donut barely had filling and didn't taste like it was cooked all the way, and the sprinkles.. well they just need to learn to ice them better. I'm officially done patronizing this doughnut shop. I grew up here and have bragged about these doughnuts for years. Over the last few years, the quality of doughnuts and the customer service have both deteriorated significantly. The biggest issue is stale doughnuts. We purchased doughnuts this morning, and they even LOOKED stale. Sure enough they were. They were nearly inedible and certainly not enjoyable. I wish I could say this is the first time, but of my last 5 visits, the doughnuts have been stale 4 of them. I work a bit farther north, and occasionally someone brings in Bill's Doughnuts. I hate to say it because I love all things Boro, but there is no comparison. I'm willing to make the drive to Bill's for a better, fresher product. It's time for the Doughnut Haus to stop relying on Springboro loyalty and to step up their game. read more

The Donut Haus Bakery is located in Springboro and bakery Owner Mike Hemmert is living the American Dream! He owns his own business, and like many people, had dreamed of doing so for a long time. Unlike Mike, most people don't actually follow through on their dreams. Well he did and it has paid off in a big way. After starting out with McDonald's in his junior year of high school, he stayed around for 13 years, working his way up the ladder and his last job with them was as a field consultant. After realizing it was going to take many more years with McDonald's before he would get the opportunity to purchase his own franchise, he decided to venture out on his own. Mike had a fellow friend and employee that had once worked at McDonald's with him leave the corporation and venture out on his own and purchase a donut shop in Kettering. Mike started working some weekends with his friend in his spare time-learning the donut business while keeping his job at McDonald's. About a year later in Jan., 1985 he heard of the Springboro Donut Haus being for sale. He drove out to Springboro for the first time just as they were starting to build new, large homes--like nothing he had seen before. He saw so much land in the area and envisioned this community would be something special. He closed on the purchase of the Donut Haus and started networking with other successful donut shop owners. After all, he knew the hamburger business, but had a lot to learn with donuts. First stop was Bill Elam, owner of Bill's Donuts in Centerville. Mike had heard he was the "big gun" in the Dayton area and had a wealth of knowledge. Mike stopped in at Bill's on a Friday night to meet him and had hoped to get a convenient time later to sit down. Bill immediately reached out and asked Mike how he liked his coffee and told him to go "sit down." Retail sales were good, but did not provide enough revenue, so he hit the streets. Fast forward to 2014, and his team is delivering products in 6 area counties and traveling 100 miles nightly, 7 days a week, making delivering to his wholesale clients. The Shop is well known for its tasty apple fritters - selling hundreds of them daily. He has a staff of 15, including 4 bakers. In today's environment, so many of the chains are using "frozen donuts" to save labor dollars. This will never happen at the Donut Haus. Mike will always "bake fresh" daily and use the best ingredients he can buy. What keeps Mike going 30 years later are the relationships he has with his customers. He also considers himself a "life coach" for his high school employees. He teaches them teamwork, people skills, and the value of loyalty and a good worth ethic. This coming year the Donut Haus is celebrating its 30 year anniversary! He has completely remodeled the interior and exterior of the 40 year old building over the past 2 years...investing $150,000 (does that surprise you?). Mike and his staff are preparing for an all-out celebration. There will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony, open houses to see the bakery's kitchen, but best of all..."roll back" the prices to what they were 30 years ago. Individual donuts were 30 cents or $2.40/doz. WOW! Coffee prices will be rolled back to 40 cents as well. It is not unusual to see Mike supporting local charities. He provides regular donations to the Springboro Community Action Center (local Food Pantry). He is a Board Member for the Franklin Community Services Pantry and also helps with donut donations. He is an active member of The Springboro Chamber of Commerce. Mike is a product of hard work, endless dedication and wise business operations. The staff is friendly, and they have a very nice selection of donuts and pastries. The blueberry donuts are my favorites. I've never had bad service or food here. But they won't except credit cards unless you spend at least $5, I think. It hasn't been a problem since I'm never buying for just myself, but I thought others should be aware. read more

I have gotten donuts here in the past that were very good, so I stopped in this morning to pick up 2 dozen to bring to work to share with co-workers. I was so disappointed! They were dry, stale, like day-old donuts. Not at all what I was expecting! After I had raced to my co-workers about Donut Haus, and how they had to experience their donuts, it was so embarrassing to offer sub standard fare. My daughter has a peanut allergy and as much as I like to buy donuts I don't typically do it b/c most donuts are made using the same equipment that comes into contact with peanuts. When I asked about shared equipment at Donut Haus the girl working the counter said she'd make fresh donuts specifically for my daughter and she'd wash the equipment. This has never happened anywhere I've gone. This place is amazing. Amazing service and yes the donuts are pretty darned good too. I can't wait to go back!!! read more
