There is an iconic DONUT spot in La Puente that is an expert and master of Donuts, Croissants, and Bagels! This bakery is a giant chocolate donut that you cannot miss. Just drive on through the donut hole to see the goods for yourself! No need to step out of your car. There's a window on the left to pick up your order. They were sold out on the Maple Bacon Donuts, but my eyes feasted on S'mores, the Tiger Tail and an Old Fashion Buttermilk for the win! They've got the regular glazed, sprinkle toppings, jelly filled, apple fritters, etc. They also make fancy and gourmet types like Red Velvet, Fruity Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch (might as well have your cereal with your donut) for a sweet and sugary day. I noticed only one employee, could have been the owner. He was whipping up the dough, bringing out a tray of hot and fresh goods to place on the display shelves. This place is CASH only. Which is a bit silly because it is a drive through and the only notice is when you drive up to the main windows to pay. No way to utilize an ATM or debit card. The setup is strange with the view of the donuts is only when you get to the main windows to pay. Love the design. Hate the old-style setup they have. I like this place mostly for the unique architecture and history building. The donuts themselves were good. And reasonably priced, especially for the size. But they did not wow me. CASH ONLY. Truly a landmark of the area and finally after an entire lifetime of living here, I spontaneously went into the Donut Hole to visit! We drove through the Donut Hole on a Sunday morning to grab some donuts on the go and we were the only ones in the drive thru. There is a menu on the driver side and you can take a look at what donuts they have freshly made there. As a passenger, you may have to duck a bit to see the menu itself. We got the $3/1 dozen glazed donut holes and an Oreo donut. Loved the donut holes. Nice glaze, not too oily and not too dry or airy for the actual dough. As expected, the Oreo donut was pretty sweet and is more of a dessert (would have gone great with milk). Wouldn't mind stopping by again one day to try out their other donuts. read more

tl;dr apart from the quirky architecture, everything else about these expensive, lackluster donuts is a total dud Even among Southern California's saturated donut scene, The Donut Hole stands out from the crowd -- literally, as two towering fiberglass facades dwarf any nearby structures. A simple yet striking example of Programmatic architecture, the Donut Hole's La Puente location is the only one to incorporate the donut motif and, unsurprisingly, the last remaining location dating back to the 1960s. The two enormous brown donuts flank a wood-and-stucco shack, with a drive-through that looks more like a car wash than a fast food establishment. Pass by racks of mostly traditional donut varieties as you creep toward the ordering window at the far end of the drive-through. The adjacent road verges are decorated with well-manicured grass and flower patches. As with countless other Angelenos, I could barely wait to drive through larger-than-life donuts to purchase one of my favorite treats. However, my first visit was middling at best. The cash-only purchase felt cold and transactional, and the eyebrow-raising premiums appeared to reflect the unique experience rather than the only-serviceable donuts. The tea plate-sized apple fritter was undercooked with a flavor most akin to grocery store apple pie, while the soggy, mostly tasteless tiger tail felt flat. The croissant donut was heavily glazed but too dense, yet it was the only variety I thought warranted a second chance. My first visit was on a weekend afternoon, so I returned on a weekday morning in hopes of finding the freshest possible donut -- and the quality was, frankly, worse. My croissant donut was rock-hard and lifeless, while the chocolate bar was filled only a third of the way down the donut. I faced a minimal queue during both visits, which probably attests to The Donut Hole's diminishing quality. The Donut Hole was established in 1968. According to LA Conservancy, The Donut Hole is "a wood-and-stucco one-story commercial building split into two halves with a driveway in the middle, bracketed at each end by an enormous fiberglass donut. The driveway allows customers to drive right through the center to place and pick up their orders." This location was the 2nd of five Donut Hole locations and the only one that utilized donuts as part of the architecture. This is the only Donut Hole location still in operation today. The Donut Hole attracts people from all over the world to marvel at this place of beauty. Where else in the world, can you drive through two large donuts to buy donuts?! If you have children, I highly recommend you taking a mini adventure to experience this place in person. The donuts are pretty good as well. They are very affordable compared to other donut shops in the area. What we ordered: -Apple Fritter -Rainbow Donut -Raised Glazed -Cinnamon Crumb -Donut Holes It came out to less than $15 for 4 donuts and a bunch of Donut Holes. It's not just a novel way to get food - they have a good selection of different donuts as well. It should be noted that I think it's cash only. The service and operation is very similar to a fast food drive through. I came here because I heard of this place through a coworker and just wanted to drive through and get some donuts. The driveway is narrow and I was scraping my tire driving thru (Toyota Sienna van) so be careful. They offer a good variety of donuts - bigger than other donut shops. They also have croissants, breakfast sandwiches, and fancy donuts like smores and this cute rainbow donut. I ordered a bunch of stuff and when I was ready to pay with Apple Pay they said that they only take cash. I didn't notice the sign inside. So I found $5 in the car (I don't carry cash often) and drove away with one buttermilk donut. It was good, not mind blowing, but standard donut shop taste. Amazing donuts! My fiancé and I came here two weeks ago for the first time. I got a maple bar and he got a tiger tail. These donuts are the SOFTEST, best donuts I have ever had. The maple bar was super soft and not too sweet. It was the best maple bar I have ever had! The tiger tail was also super soft and tasted just like a cinnamon roll! Super happy with this place and their donuts. It's also a great photo op! We went back a second time with my little sister and got another maple, a strawberries and cream donut, and a s'mores donut. I honestly just wouldn't recommend the s'mores donut. The marshmallows tasted old and stale probably because they're burnt and then sitting out all day. What a fun surprise. I was starving and driving around in an unfamiliar town about to give up, roll the dice and turn into the next restaurant I found. Luckily right around the corner was an in n out and this place. Eureka! The Donut Hole is the best thing ever. Lots of delicious fresh donuts, super nice lady working there too. It's just an all-around win. The only thing I would say worth noting, and this is not a criticism, just a heads up. It's kind of narrow. The opening is plenty big enough but I was in a pretty small car, a Porsche 911, and I was worried my wheels would rub on the curb on either side. Pretty cool and unique place for some doughnuts. The drive-through itself is aesthetic and great for pictures. It's kind of something I'd expect to see in Disneyland or Universal studios. They have a bunch of different flavors of doughnuts, ranging from regular/standard flavors to unique flavors such as smores. I came here for the smores and lucky charm doughnut. The smores doughnut was pretty good, just the right amount of sweetness. The lucky charms doughnut could be better, the cereal itself was super stale and soft- meaning it's not fresh and it's been sitting out there for days. I have no idea when they make their doughnuts but itd probably be best to come right after the make it. Overall, the 2 doughnuts were $7 - not bad considering the uniqueness of the doughnuts. I would come back to try other flavors, but I'd want to figure out when they make their doughnuts - because I prefer the cereal to be crunchy and not soft and stale. read more
