I had an unpleasant experience at Sunrise Donuts (West Covina). It's humid inside; the donuts are cracking apart; and it feels abandoned. (Important: If you use card, they require you to spend $5 or more.) Parking is competitive. It shares the plaza with the 85 degrees bakery, so there's many cars. Luckily, I quickly found a spot. When I'd arrived, nobody was behind the counter. Business had their lights dim. And the room felt humid and hot. Eventually, a Staff member acknowledged peaked from behind the back. Staff wouldn't sell me a donut unless I spent $5 or more, so I left. Staff then put the squished donut back behind their display case. Regardless, Donut options were low. If I could give 0 stars, I would. I was excited to try Sunrise Donuts, but the experience was very uncomfortable. The clerk was extremely pushy and kept pressuring us to buy more than we wanted, including extra coffee and hot chocolate that we clearly said we didn't want. When we didn't add more items, she made visible faces and seemed annoyed. We had already paid for our coffee and food, yet she hovered over us in a way that made us feel like we were being watched for stealing, which was very uncomfortable. I also ordered a few donuts and only received two, which was confusing. The coffee was extremely strong, and when we politely asked if it could be diluted, she responded in a rude and confrontational way. We were not being disrespectful at all, just placing a simple order. The place wasn't the cleanest and it wasn't the most aesthetic but we still made the purchase because we walked in it would've been rude to walk out The interaction felt tense and unwelcoming, and because of this, we won't be returning and honestly we should've walked out instead. read more

I have been to this place three times and each time I visit, the lady would give me an extra donut. I went in later in the evening a couple of days ago (like, after 7pm) and the lady was so nice, she gave me extra donuts. The workers (maybe owners) were really sweet and were hospitable! It was a plus they were also Vietnamese hehe (my peeps). We spoke to each other in Vietnamese and the lady was so sweet and seems to enjoy customers who speak Vietnamese back. She even gave us some donut holes to try! My partner and I got their jalapeno ham and cheese croissant which was so good! They heat it up for us on the spot and their Vietnamese iced coffee was perfect ;) There's plenty of parking and their donut shop had some space for people to sit and enjoy their coffee. The bagels are tooo good ! they come out warm and with the right amount of cream cheese (unlike other places that try to skimp you out). My sister always gets the croissants here which are also delicious. The donuts are also really good! not too sweet and not too airy. The owners here are also very sweet, an older couple who have always been at the cashier ever day and every morning for the many years i've lived in the area (10 years btw). My favorites are the orange frosted donuts because they taste a little like actual fruity orange in a sweet refreshing kind of way - then the chocolate peanut donuts and glazed donuts are super fresh and delicious too! The shop is very quiet and unassuming. It is in a nice shopping area where you can grab some lunch or dinner and head over to get a donut as a quick and sweet dessert afterwards.
