I'm sitting here, reflecting back on my daughters. Wonderful wedding at the Dorrington Hotel. The staff has no peer, they are just amazing. The hotel is so quaint, and we had nine families able to stay the weekend there while others found plenty of nearby accommodations. The food, the amenities, the atmosphere, and the flexibility of what they offer Made for a dream wedding at a price that is affordable to every day Americans. We will be going there for my daughters one year anniversary party for sure. It sure doesn't hurt that. They have an attached bar and grill for more casual, fun, for instance, our wedding party dinner the night before, it is so grating to see and meet people who really go out of their way to take care of you. Had a wonderful stay in their single cottage located behind the hotel. It's a rather large studio suitable for a single person or a couple, with a small kitchen, tv, a lovely porch to sit on, chairs outside perfect for star gazing, and the most amazing jetted bathtub. It was heaven! Tami was absolutely wonderful and always made herself available if I needed anything. Though I didn't need a thing. Everything was absolutely perfect. It was a short walk over to the Lube Room Saloon where they have some amazing bar food available for dine in or take out. I ordered take out several times and made some wonderful meals in the kitchen. 30 min drive up to the lake and also found some amazing secluded swimming spots on the river. Lots of hiking around the area and a short drive to big trees state park. All in all it was an amazing stay and I will be back! read more

By far the most magical wedding venue I have ever been too. The landscape itself is such a beautiful backdrop. The whole weekend was so much fun having the bridal party stay at the hotel that has been maintained so perfectly keeping its charm but with modern amenities, and then right next door is the Luberoom which is a 10/10 spot in itself. Great food, friendly locals, and an all around great time. I will definitely make a trip back to stay at the Dorrington again! read more

I went to a wedding on the property a few weeks back, and we all stayed at the hotel and it was an unforgettable weekend. The venue overall was straight out of a fairytale. The hotel was a quaint, charming and filled with history of the original Dorrington settlers, but with modern amenities. The service was great and everyone was very attentive. The lot where the ceremony took place was jaw-dropping. There's something special being surrounded by 100 foot redwoods with mountains in the backdrop - it is a very special place! Highly recommend for a relaxing getaway or even an event such as wedding. Especially since there's the local bar next door, The Lube Room, with excellent beers and burgers! read more

The Dorrington Hotel was the perfect venue for our annual family-friend Escape Adventure to the mountains. Rustic charm with all the comforts of home. The rooms were clean, beds comfy and simply decorated. The kitchen was perfect for cooking meals with an added bonus of the Lube Room next door for when you didn't want to cook and/or needed a cold beverage. We enjoyed the short drives to Bear Valley, Big Trees, exploring the back roads and the Stanislaus River. Lots of adventure to explore in the area or just kick back and enjoy the ambiance and comfort of the Hotel. I love the Dorrington Hotel! It was built in the 1800's by a man named John Gardner and his wife Rebecca. There are many different legends surrounding the death of Rebecca. They range from being killed by Indians to being killed in a stage coach accident. It is said that Rebecca's ghost haunts the hotel to this day. The rooms are furnished and decorated in Victorian style. Very charming. There is also a restaurant downstairs which is very good. They make a really yummy spinach salad which is one of my favorites. My husband and I recently celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Dorrington Hotel, and it was PERFECT! The guest rooms are sparkling clean and beautifully decorated, the food served at our party was delicious and the personal attention of the staff made us feel like family. We renewed our vows in a quaint building that had been decorated as a chapel and it couldn't have been nicer. If you want a truly special venue for a family reunion or any other gathering of family and friends, you can't find a better location than the Dorrington Hotel. Great place for our family trip to the snow. The hotel is really a private residence with six bedrooms. (Five in the main hotel and one in a separate unit right outside the back door) The decor is not fancy, but very nice, clean and fits the feel of the area in the mountains. All bedrooms have queen beds. The living area is spacious and worked perfect for our extended family and kids. There is one large dining table that will fit 10-12, a small dining table that will fit 4-6, two barstools at the kitchen counter, two sofas and misc chairs around a large TV. With so many family members in our group, all of the different areas gave us lots of room to spread out. There is a large deck out the back door that leads to a huge backyard. We had lots of fun making a sled run, having snow ball fights and playing with the kids. The service was fantastic, both at the hotel and next door at the Lube Room. Leslie helped us out and made sure everything was perfect. My daughter forgot her pillow and they sent it back to us no charge. The Dorrington Hotel exceeded our expectations. If you're looking to get away from the daily grind, TV, noise, congestion then this is the perfect place. My husband and I were married at the Dorrington Hotel in September 2019. Our special day turned out to be everything we hoped for and more. We were blown away by the overall experience, we have no complaints what so ever. Lori was so helpful and creative, it was wonderful. The Dorrington Hotel is a perfect venue especially if you're looking for that "rustic" vibe. For the weekend we had use of the entire hotel, cottage, barn and backyard. The barn was a wonderful addition to our wedding, and the property grounds were perfect for our photos. Lori and Tammy went above and beyond the whole weekend. Another thing to share, was that Lori and Tammy made our wedding party and family a delicious breakfast on our wedding day. Our day was perfect! The Dorrington Hotel is the oldest standing structure in Calaveras County! I'm a history geek and this place is full of it. It's fun to explore. The rooms are decorated with antiques. Ours was very comfortable and immaculately clean. There are 5 guest rooms total that share 2 bathrooms, all on the second floor. You could have eaten off the floor in either bathroom, that's how clean they were during our entire stay. The owner and employees were very friendly and accommodating, and seemed to genuinely love to fill us in on their favorite spots and activities. It was a great stay on a stunningly beautiful stretch of highway. If you go, be sure to hit up the Lube Room bar 2 door down - it's a hoot and as authentic as they get. We dined at the 1852 Restaurant which is part of the hotel. Great service, good food. A bit too heavy for my taste - I would have liked a lighter option or two but heck - it's "stick-to-your -ribs" country. read more

The Dorrington Hotel is a beautifully restored inn that is available for groups (reunion, wedding, girls/guys getaway, ski/snowboard weekend with family/families). There are five rooms appointed with antiques and comfy beds, and there are two bathrooms with showers for guests to share. The continental breakfast in the morning includes home made quiche and sweet treats such as bacon wrapped cinnamon rolls!!!! plus fresh fruit, coffee, juice, etc. I spent every morning on the sun porch reading and drinking my coffee (and of course, eating BACON cinnamon buns!!!) The staff is kind and personable, the rooms are clean and historical, and next door, the Lube Room offers lunch and dinner of great pub food PLUS a full bar and an eclectic atmosphere! I just celebrated my birthday here with friends and family and had a great time! We rented out the entire hotel and everyone loved the charm, history and ambiance of the hotel. The service, food, and staff are all amazing-We chose to have our meals catered and everything was beyond delicious! However, if you'd like to bring your own food, they just finished a new kitchen for guests to use with beautiful stainless appliances and all amenities. In addition to the hotel, the Lube Room Bar and Grille next door also has a vast menu with cocktails, beer and local wines-don't pass up sitting in the big backyard are, taking in the gorgeous scenery and smelling the pines! I celebrated my 40th birthday at the Dorrington Hotel over the weekend and am beyond pleased with the way it turned out. For me, food is such an important factor when planning an event and two days later I am still receiving positive feedback from family and friends who attended the celebration. Their extensive catering menu has tons of options--owners and staff were even willing to work with any suggestions we had to personalize it for us. The historic hotel is the perfect atmosphere for anyone who loves a mountain setting... from the decor to the cozy wood burning stove, it was all just right for what I had envisioned for my party. Do you know the saying, "Sometimes things happen for a reason", well that was definitely true in our case. My family of 4 including our very good friends and their teenagers were excited to enjoy the Memorial Day Weekend when we received an email that the vacation rental property we planned on staying at was not confirmed. After several calls and countless searches for a place to stay, the very nice and understanding customer service agent knew that we were in a bind and recommended a a short list of properties and their owners and/or property manager's contact info so I could call them directly. The second call I made was a pleasant surprise as the owner, Lori, picked up and was so helpful and understanding! Within the few short minutes of speaking to her, I knew this would be the perfect place to stay. She arranged for the keys to be ready at the Lube Room when we arrived. Everyone was so helpful at the Lube Room! Love that place! The rest are great memories and definitely a place we will stay when we are at the New Lake Melones! I was surprised not to see more rave reviews of this place. It's a real treasure, tucked away in the mountains just past Arnold and the Calaveras Big Trees State Park on Highway 4. The hotel was built in 1852 and seems to have remained more or less unchanged since then. The rooms (all five of them) are cozy without being too small, decorated with antique furniture and featuring some of the more comfortable mattresses I've ever slept on. The French restaurant downstairs is absolutely some of the best food I've ever had, and the proprietor is a very pleasant Frenchman who takes great pride in the hotel; he also has a very detailed knowledge of the hotel's history if you're curious. I was hoping to spot the hotel's famous ghost -- I believe he said the hotel was featured on Ghost Hunters or one of those shows -- but alas, no luck. (I am assured, however, that the ghost is friendly, should you run into her.) The adjacent building has a bar and an additional (cheaper) restaurant, but we were happy to stay and eat in the hotel itself the night we stayed. If you're looking for a magical, old-timey getaway for a night or two, I highly recommend this place. read more
