This is hands down the best breakfast restaurant we've been to when visiting the area. My kids said the pancakes were light and fluffy with just thr right amount of sweetness. I am Southern and found their biscuit to be the best I've had west of the Mississippi River - OMG? I ate that whole thing. And when you have a choice between spuds or hash browns, do Yourself a favor and say spuds. The potatoes as well as the red onions and peppers were nicely browned with a wonderful seasoning...I ate them left over the next day with cheddar and pickled jalapeños - yum. The servers were all happy on a Saturday morning at 8:30 am! All they all had genuine smiles and were funny and kind. Had lunch here with my wife and father in law. The wait was to be expected as it was a holiday weekend. Once seated our waiter was upfront and stated the wait for food is going to be long. We appreciated the heads up on that. I ordered the chicken sando and tots. Super delicious and the tots were crispy. The chicken was juicy and the avocado was spot on ripe. My wife got the bacon breakfast and I assume she loved it as she didn't say a word while digging in. My father in law got the Rueben, with sweet potato fries. He absolutely grubbed it. He asked for the fries extra crispy and they came out perfect. For a little place off the 108, in Mi Wii....its a little gem. It feels like a country kitchen and they do not skimp on serving. This sweet little spot is the kind of place you drive by, always see a bunch of cars in the parking lot, and wonder what the hype is. Well, it's because it's actually good food, great staff, and a sweet location. Dog friendly too. This has now become a must visit on our way back down the mountain from camping. The best part? My husband and I had breakfast at The Pine Cone Cafe this morning and I so glad we picked this cozy spot! He had an omelette with veggies and the veggies were fresh and the omelette was so tasty. I had the light breakfast with hash browns (yum!) and asked for gluten free toast. The waiter asked if gluten free was a preference or a celiac issue. I confirmed that I do have celiac disease. He said he would have the chef clean a spot on the grill and make my food there, to avoid cross contamination! I'm so used to apologizing for my allergy and feeling embarrassed, but he made it seem like no big deal at all. NEVER again! It took us 10 minutes to get seated (not bad). It took over 20 minutes to even place an order after I asked them to help us. There was a girl just standing behind the bar doing nothing! Now keep in mind, they weren't that busy. FINALLY ordered two sandwiches w/fries. We're still waiting over an hour at this point to receive our food. Then we saw a man that came in about 20 minutes after us get his food before us, we lost it. They said, oh your food is next! We said don't bother and left. Huevoes Rancheros was spectacular. Perfect blend of flavors. First time ever eating this dish and definitely will try again, though I doubt it will compare to The Pine Cone Cafés. We ordered a few items to go and it seemed like the lady on the phone hesitated to take it. Did not ding her for it because I called her out during pick up and she was just trying to be honest about the wait time given they were really busy inside the cafe. Service was prompt and my Togo order was done sooner than estimated. He followed it up w you will not be disappointed w the dinner. This is a hidden gem! Everything on the dinner menu sounded good. We had the calamari and fries which was breaded calamari strips. We've driven past a million times on our way to the lake but stopped today for the first time. We'll be back! The food was downright tasty and the portions were generous - the burgers were juicy and flavorful, and the omelettes was delicious too. We were seated promptly and the server was friendly. We arrived just before the lunch rush but, within a few minutes, the place was completely full. The consequence was that the solo server was unable to provide the kind of attention I think she normally would have. The food took longer than we would have liked, and my coffee was empty for awhile but, once I flagged her down and asked, she refilled it promptly. I'm guessing next time I'll give this place a 5 star review but, for our first visit, it's a strong 4 stars. If I could offer a 4.5, I would. read more

Wanted a nice breakfast while visiting Pinecrest. Came here to find great reviews, so we tried it out. We were greeted kindly by the hostess and taken care of immediately. We instantly felt the local vibe but were accepted and treated very well. The host came to our table and was very helpful, especially with my daughter. We were hungry and when the plates landed they did not disappoint. The portions were huge and delicious. I got the veggie omelet, my daughter the short stack breakfast, and my wife the sausage breakfast. We tasted each others dishes and all were great. I can be wary when a huge portion arrives as at some places size tries to make up for flavor or quality. Not here. Everything was very good. We left satisfied only to have our car die out in front of the restaurant. The host and hostess hooked us up with lemonade (it was a very hot day) and gave helpful suggestions, including asking some locals if they were heading back up the mountain. I would give this restaurant a great review even without this last bit but it really sealed the deal for the kind of establishment it is. Great Food, Great People. I can't wait to go back. read more

So, on the way back from a hike around Pinecrest lake, the hubs and I decided to try this place (finally) for a late breakfast. The dining room was fairly full, which I always take as a good sign. The decor was typical diner ambiance, mountain style. We were given our drinks right away, but it took a bit longer for our food order and even longer to get our food. Everything looked pretty good and came out hot. The hubs really liked (and ate pretty much all of) his basic bacon, eggs, toast and home spuds breakfast. The potatoes were well seasoned and had some chopped bell peppers in them, a nice touch. My Belgian waffle was delicious, topped with fresh tasting, chopped strawberries and abundant dollops of whipped cream. I was excited to order the 'house made' sausage patty, but unfortunately it tasted more like plain hamburger to me, lacking sufficient seasoning to resemble what I consider good sausage . The food was good enough for return visits, but I will take a hard pass on ordering the sausage patty again. read more

I perused options for the best brunch in Sonora and it came down to Alicia's Sugar Shack and Mandy's. I chose Pine Cone Cafe because I wanted to avoid crowds and because of the amazing benedict menu. I tried and loved: -the crab cake and florentine (spinach and mushroom) benedicts My bf tried and loved: -steak and eggs The Monte Cristo was decent and served with a side of jam. All meals came with a choice of hash browns or potatoes and a slice of an orange. Portions were HUGE. I only ate half of each meal and took the rest to go. The coffee was your standard diner coffee with unlimited refills and they had a selection of creamers on the table.
