TLDR. Awesome food and even better on a Tuesday on the patio with your dog and family. Recently went to Grounds for a late lunch this week. Even though it was late on a Tuesday the patio was still busy. We got a nice table outside because it was a beautiful day and we had our GSD with us. Shared the beet salad and the chicken burrito and also a kids hamburger with fries for the pup ( fries were for us). PROTIP: We took the option to split each dish by the kitchen and although it cost a couple bucks more, you get a little more of everything! Beet salad was solid with perfect allocations of all ingredients. I would say it was a bit heavy on the dressing but I like minimal dressing and my partner said it was perfect so there you go. The burrito was "wet" and delicious! Lots of flavor fresh ingredients and very saucy. Only thing it lacked was a little heat. Ask for tapatio if you like a little spice. The hamburger by the way, was larger than a normal hamburger you get on the kiddie menu. And the fries were piping hot and fresh. Our dog loved the burger as he should and we downed all the fries. Lovely place but the food did not come remotely close to meeting my standards. I ordered the Bacon and Avocado toast which I often order for a brunch meal. When the dish was placed before me the bread slid to the other side of the white dish that had no other accompanying garnish like a piece of lettuce or parsley. It was one, maybe a 2" x 5" very thin piece of sourdough toast. Hardly a snack. Bacon was obviously cooked hours before and very overcooked. This dish was hardly appetizing as it was covered by three slices of very crispy bacon which fell to the side, revealing about four microscopic chips of tomato and 4 of avocado. The avocado was over ripe and black and I could barely see the yellow tomato. I was very disappointed in the visual appearance of this dish, to say the least! And the ingredients were barely present to illicit any flavor. I was given silverware, but upon trying to cut the toast the whole thing fell apart. I pieced it together and used my hands. Now, I know fresh food items are expensive, but this item in no way warranted the price of $16.75! I do not recommend this very busy, seemingly popular eatery. read more

Went to Murphy's for a getaway with my boo. We loved Murphy's and Main St. Had dinner at Ground after many locals recommended and had another traveler join us that we met while exploring Main St. Our server was the best! Funny and recommended great options Food was delicious! Wish I had photos but was so immersed in what we had and the company! For sure I know we order for appetizers: Crispy Calamari: 9/10 seasoned and tastes very light! Red Thai Curry Coconut Mussels: 10/10 coming from a SE Asian background, flavors are authentic Entrees: Unsure of what we ordered but we definitely had the elk medallions which was delicious! Came for lunch on a Saturday after a cave tour. Interior has a very contemporary decor. Was seated quickly in the rear area. Ordered the BLTA Sandwich and the kids grilled cheese on sourdough. BLTA was very tasty. Stacked up thick strips of bacon with crisped bread and fresh avocado made for a great sandwich. Chips had good crunch and the salsa had a great mild flavor to it. Son liked the grilled cheese so much he ate all of it and after our hike wanted to come back for dinner! Would definitely swing back here for a quick lunch and interested in their dinner. read more

Came here on a girls trip with my mom and sister. We ate the Caesar salad with salmon, chicken penne pasta and the mushroom risotto. All three of us were satisfied with our delicious meal, except my Caesar with salmon was the best. Hands down the best restaurant prepared salmon Ive had in a long time. This restaurant has a more formal dining atmosphere than a lot of the other places in town and the service was excellent. I highly recommend and wish I could come back for breakfast. The service was so awful, but the food was absolutely 5/5. Lots of indoor seating, and the back patio seemed to be a very popular choice for diners. Elk: my friend loved that they had more than just your classic protein options. She tried the elk and said it was one of the best that she's ever had! I tried a bite, and the meat wasn't tough or dry. I think the portion size is also just enough with a few apps if you want to try something new but don't want to be overwhelmed by a huge portion size of commitment. Beet salad: loved this salad! It had the little sprigly greens, mandarin oranges, a strong cheese, and a real good dressing. It was just light enough so we weren't full before our entrees, but just heavy enough to stave off the hunger. Salmon: it's apparently prepared the way the way the chef wants it, and I guess I came on a very creative, creamy day! I loved every part of it; I got a little nervous because of how creamy the sauce was, but the spinach and the truffle rice really paired well with it. Salmon was cooked well, not dry or the overcooked flakiness. Even took the leftovers home and ate it that same night and still loved it! Recommend it (at least the way it was served that night) Chicken pesto gnocchi: it was very watery... other than that, it was ok! The chicken bits were smaller than the gnocchi bits, but dang was it extremely watery... -- We had to flag down a waiter multiple times to get their attention. We were passed by and, quite frankly, ignored. We have a berry allergy, and we were checking to make sure one of the cocktails didn't have berry juice or berry related garnishes. The server never came back and when we finally got their attention, they said they forgot to check. We sat for a while waiting for the check, someone asked us if we wanted boxes, we got our boxes, but still sat around waiting for the check! We finally put a card down, but then had to wait again to pay... the whole process was painfully slow. Ironically, I heard a server say to another server: "It's really slow right now!" Imagine my surprised face. Overall, it seems like a cute place where regardless of whether you're on a meaningful date or pulling up after a fun-filled day with some decently worn out clothes, you'll have a good meal. read more

I had the Greek sandwich and it was one of the best sandwiches I have ever had. The staff was really friendly and the service was wonderful. The restaurant was really busy when we were there but the server was still attentive and timely with our food and drinks. The location of the restaurant was great as well. read more

We went here on Monday for lunch, definitely not the same experience as the last time. People working here seemed indifferent, like they had better things to do. The quality of the food was way different from our previous experience and not in a good way. One salad was drowned in dressing and another was ordered with chicken, which had a funny taste (old?), so not enjoyable. I ordered the beans and rice, which was just that. I guess for $16. I expected more but this tasted like it came out of a can or Sysco. To top it off, their "suggested gratuity" is based on the total that includes the sales tax, which most places have stopped doing. read more

Let me start with saying the service was excellent, server was very attentive to our table. Unfortunately the food just didn't meet expectation with steaks getting to us cold and appetizers burnt. The restaurant only had one more party, so I'm not sure why our food would get to us cold. I don't think I would ever go back to this place or recommend it to anyone, with a $400 bill we would have definitely gotten better food somewhere else. The food here has always been good, but the service is really awful. I came here last year and felt like we were really putting the people out to acknowledge our existence. Our coffee and tea didn't come until our food was served and it was cold. The food was good though. I come here for an annual event and since it's Monday, it is one of the few places open. We thought we'd give it a try again. Big mistake. We were seated with menus put in front of us but then were totally ignored for 20 minutes. There was a water spill the busboy was cleaning but did not excuse the server walking right by us twice with no acknowledgement. To me for breakfast right when you're seated I'm used to being asked if you'd like coffee. But nope, nothing. Then the server was rude when we were leaving and I told her this was the second time we had poor service. It was a win for us though because the Murphy's hotel had a great breakfast and amazing service. Everything came out quickly and she earned the large tip we left her. Wow... it's fallen soooo far. Not-great-service. Felt like we were interrupting the employees on their breaks nearly the entire time. (They all seemed to avoid eye-contact altogether. Weird.) Service never checked on us after food dropped. Potato pancake: a fancy name for hashbrowns. Hollandaise sauce was a scoop of lukewarm goop. I think it says made on site (or something like that). Powdered hollandaise can be made on site (not to imply it's powdered, but definitely not a true HS). Poached eggs way over cooked and also lukewarm. No English Muffin - sliced baguette instead. Thick slice of Canadian bacon? Of course not. Thinly sliced ham (which actually tasted good). I've been coming here for a long time & each time it seems to step back further. Went to Murphys as a stress relief day trip immediately after landing in SFO. Heard how popular beets, elk, wine tasting, and caves are. Read a bunch of blogs suggesting Grounds; hence, I am here with my companion. FOOD: - I ordered the beets salad, elk medallions, and lemon cream cake. Silly me... I only took a picture of the dessert. - They brought out fresh hot baguette like bread and butter. So freaking delicious. - I wish I took a picture of the beets salad because it was so awesome that they allowed me to put nearly everything on the side. I am a very plain Jane when it comes to salad (limited toppings and limited dressing) so I made my companion eat the sides. Absolutely delicious! Beets were the sweetest I have ever had in my life. Balsamic vinegarette was how I like it. Except they forgot the candied pecans. Lame. - Elk medallions...I asked for medium rare per recommendations. I think the chef forgot 1 of 2 medallions on the stove because one was well done. Both were super dry. Good flavor though. Hence subtracting 0.5 stars. - Lemon Italian cream cake was per recommendation of the waitress. Their most popular dessert is the lava cake but I was not feeling chocolate in the moment. It was good (moist, lots of lemon vibe, definite vanilla beans throughout the entire slice) but I wish it came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and perhaps one raspberry instead of a bunch of whipped cream. AMBIANCE: - bar upfront, few tables in the middle and tables in the back - very romantic yet very welcoming to anyone and everybody - I get the "farm" vibe probably because folks wearing cowboy hats were sitting in the adjacent table, haha SERVICE: - cough cough cough: so I am all about honesty and transparency and I would like others to tell me the same. So there's a waiter who was holding 4 of the same cocktails. A chick in the other table ordered a specific cocktail, this waiter apologized and said he misunderstood the order and then gave her a cocktail she didn't order. When they went to sign the check, the waiter apologized that he's charging more because the drink he gave them costs more. If this was me, I would've responded "why am I always paying for someone's mistake?" - thankfully this waiter wasn't serving us but instead a waitress who was super accommodating; putting the salad toppings on the side, making sure I like my elk a certain way, helping me choose the dessert, keeping track of when I want the dishes sent, etc. thank you!! PARKING AND LOCATION: - love the location; the laid back and lovely culture of the individuals...all so very kind and so very open. We stopped in for brunch on a Friday morning and there was plenty of seating. The menu has a lot of options but I was drawn to the sourdough French toast and it was outstanding! It was served almost like baguette style vs. a slice of bread. I opted for the berry syrup and it did not disappoint. I also got a single potato pancake and it was delicious! It's served with sour cream on top and a side of like a pico de gallo. The pricing was reasonable with it being around $34 + tip for two breakfasts.
