Came here for some Dominican food. Coming from the east coast you don't see too many spot of this culture . We felt at home here . It's in a courtyard of sorts with other food trucks. They had a stage for probably live music. They had music playing and dancing. The vibe. The chairs and oak trees you could sit on and under. The empanadas that had Doughminican" stamped on them. Must-Try Dominican Empanadas and Fresh Pineapple Juice I absolutely love The Dominican--this spot is a gem! If you're ever in the mood for fresh-pressed pineapple juice, theirs is incredible. And their empanadas? Absolutely delicious. These are Dominican-style empanadas, so they might look a bit different, but the flavors are spot on. They offer beef, chicken, and veggie (ratatouille) options, and all are phenomenal. My favorite is the chicken--don't skip it! One of my favorite weekend routines is grabbing empanadas here, heading over to Desnudo (next door) for coffee or matcha, and enjoying the pop-up farmers market in the area. It's the perfect way to hang out, shop local, and enjoy amazing food. Plus, the owners of the food truck are so kind and welcoming. I would say this food truck has some of the best empanadas I have ever had. I have had my eye on it for years, never seeming to catch it during operating hours. The day I walked by and saw the door open, I ran into the food park and told my friends I was going to be a little bit late to meet them. About 20 minutes later, I had some of the most beautiful empanadas in front of me. I highly recommend trying these! The empanadas are made really well. I tried the beef empanada which had great flavor. My fav part is the dough.. it's seriously cooked to perfection. It's located in a food truck park that always has little local shopping stands which always makes it more of an adventure. Plan to go a little earlier in the afternoon because they typically sell out. Definitely one of the better empanadas that I've tried in Austin! read more

Incredible empanadas! Such a cute food truck! Friendly staff! Immaculate vibes! I tried the Ratatouille Empanada - omg best empanada of my life. The inside was so flavorful and the cheese pull got my heart singing. It was a bit watery but most veggie based fillings are. The crust was light and airy, made with a lot of love. Hands down 5 stars for the pun alone, if I could give 6 stars for the food I could. Truly such a quality empanada. Everything is home made and delicious. You can see the chef making the empanadas in the food trailer. What's great is while you wait you can explore the other food trucks in the park. I ordered 3 empanadas on the menu: Beef, Chicken and Ratatouille. If I had to rank them: Beef, Ratatouille and chicken. First off you break the empanada and you see steam coming out. You see the filling and cheese oozing out and it is so well done. The beef and ratatouille were well seasoned and packs flavor. The chicken was moist but lacked a bit of flavor. The dough of the empanada is flaky and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The green sauce is so great for dipping. It was great to cut through some of the richness of the beef and ratatouille: The staff was quick and speedy and the food was made with care and thought. I will definitely be back! read more

I tried both the beef empanada and the ratatouille empanada (vegetarian). The ratatouille empanada tasted fine but lacked much flavor. The filling was mostly mushy from what I could tell, lacking texture. The beef one was tasty but too greasy - when I opened it from the middle, I saw oil floating/glistening around the ground beef. Nothing wrong with that, but I prefer less greasy + less fluid filling for pastries. Wait time was surprising long for two empanadas. We were told that the wait time would be 7-10 minutes, but it took more than 10 in reality. There are seats around the truck and they would text you when the order is ready, so that's not too bad. The staff was really nice, but one suggestion: turn down the music. It was way too loud for the staff & customers to hear each other when ordering. It also made it very unpleasant to stand near the truck while waiting to order. read more

I ordered the beef empanada ($5) and also had a bite of the ratatouille one. I enjoyed the ratatouille, but the beef empanada was my favorite. They come with chipotle mayo and green sauce, but I thought the beef empanada was seasoned so well and had enough flavor on its own so I didn't end up using the sauces. The beef empanada contains delicious melted cheese that oozes out, and I believe the ratatouille empanada also had some cheese. They come out super hot, so I'm sure if I ordered them to go they would still be warm by the time I got home. This spot definitely satisfied my empanada craving. I loved that it's part of a food truck park, so you can explore other food options as well. I tried the brisket and cheddar kolache from Kerlaches, and if I had to choose between the two I would definitely pick the beef empanada from The Doughminican! read more

Fluffy and fried empanadas from a food truck park in East Austin. The chef--Melvin Mendez--is a French-trained chef from NYC who puts his own unique mark on empanadas. That's evident from the empanadas options, which includes ratatouille along with more traditional beef (minced) and chicken (tingas). But the dough is also lighter and fluffier than any other empanada I've ever had. Mendez pays close attention to colors and flavors, as evidenced by his food presentation and his choice of ingredients, such as a red wine and bone broth reduction in the beef empanada, the use of caramelized onions and green pepper in the ratatouille, or the display of fresh fruits and vegetables outside the trailer. Caribbean cuisine is not well-represented in Austin, which means I'm particularly gratified to see that those who making a contribution are doing it well. read more

Okay so first know it's a good truck on a lot that is/was a dog park. It's cute setting and i could see this being an awesome hang out spot on a nice day, unfortunately I went when it was cold, overcast and drizzling - but the food was great! The menu is simple and just what you see on the chalkboard. It's a single guy there, cooking up a storm in his RV. They have 3 empanadas, beef, chicken or ratatouille- so i had to try the veggie option. He didn't tell me but know he puts a generous amount of cheese in there and it's all made to order, so like if I knee i would've asked for no cheese. I also ordered tostones because, it's a Dominican guy and tostones are my litmus test for any Dominican/Puerto rican/Cuban place. These were spot on, crispy, warm and just enough spices. He uses a garlic/salt combo with a sprinkling of other spices i didn't recognize. I wish i took pictures of the good but tbh it was cold, i was hungry and i inhaled the empanada and tostones. read more

Neat little truck in a food truck park. Plenty of outdoor seating and street parking was easy to find when I visited. We got one of each empanadas - chicken, beef, and ratatatooey. They were all so yummy but chicken was definitely my favorite followed closely by beef. The meat was seasoned well and the dough was so soft and chewy. Recommend! read more

My first time here - I came for Veracruz. I was captured by a view of bowls filled with different veggies in a row in the morning outside the camper. The sounds of vibrant Dominican music filled the air around this camper. Inside, you find a chef dancing to the music while the smell of amazing food is boiling away. Chef Melvin is chill and clearly happy doing what he does - putting out amazing food. I was full off of Veracruz that morning, but I just had to try the man's Empandas. Seriously the best empanadas in town. I remember trying chef Melvin's empanadas back when he was located on East 5th. Now he is stationed in a hip part of town with some other food trailers. The beef empanada is so good and the empanadas are all sized generously for $3! I was confused over the hours but I believe what's on Yelp and Facebook are more accurate than the website. Spoiler alert: flavor bombs galore. This quaint trailer on the east side is among the most unassuming, chill places you can be, but don't let that fool you. The dough they roll on the inside of that little shack will knock your socks off. The Doughminican's empanadas are one of the best versions you can get anywhere or for that matter, any type of meat filled dough pocket of any culture. We got a chicken empanada as a snack and whoa, your first bite smacks you over the head with flavor. Spiced chicken, stringy tangy cheese and some of that orange sauce. I'm not sure what's in any of those nor what ingredients or sorcery is involved, but something so simple and unassuming as this dough pocket really reminds you that in Austin, you can find all sorts of hidden gems. My friend recommended this place to me and I'm really glad I checked it out. The area was pretty poppin' already and the atmosphere surrounding the trucks was very chill and vibey. I got one of each of the ratatouille, beef, and chicken empanadas and all of them were crazy good. I extremely enjoy my proteins but I must say that my favorite was the ratatouille - the cheesy and vegetable mix flavor was unparalleled. The owners are fantastic. They remember us every time we visit which is like maybe once every other month. The space they are in now is 100% better than where they were. The food is made to order which means there is a bit of a wait BUT, it is well worth it! I am a beef over chicken person but I choose chicken over beef at this place. The personal touch he adds to the empanadas with his business name is also a cute/nice touch. Don't skip out on the tostones. Thank me later! Be sure to get there early especially on the weekend. This is an underrated spot next to the popular Veracruz. Try Doughminican next time! I prefer their empanadas to breakfast tacos. They're always playing fun music. I was visiting Austin and this business was highly recommended. I was thoroughly disappointed as it was not open when I got there. The hours of operation state 11-8pm and got there at 2pm. So, I went up the street and ate at The Cavalier and came back around 3pm. It was still closed. I have no doubt that this place is probably delicious but unfortunately I was unable to try it. It was extremely hot so I took a Uber back to my hotel very very disappointed. read more

Being Dominican in Austin, it's hard to find anything authentic! But this guy is straight from my country and makes the best empanadas I've ever had. I especially love his tostones. He's friendly, plays Dominican music and his mom helps him in the kitchen so you know he's legit. Bring the family and enjoy his Caribbean atmosphere food truck. read more

Actually everything was yummy, but the Hubby did say the sancocho needed to be cooked a little longer. I (personally) did not have to add salt to anything, and for me that speaks volumes. I do not like having to season my food. We were told they were out of tostones (delayed produce delivery) so we ordered the fried yuca, but the restaurant ended up getting the plantains and we got our tostones. The Hubby was truly happy bc he said it reminded him of home. Overall we enjoyed and I will say, if I don't cook a Dominican meal at home, I would come to The Dominican Restaurant for my fix!
