Ok... so this place is fun!! The drink menu is a hoot. I've never seen a drink served in a mini bath tub with a rubber duck in it lol !! It was the cutest thing ever!! Spinach Artichoke dip and sushi were particularly good. I wished the crab cakes had more crab in them. I loved the light, fresh Cole slaw better than the crab cakes. The Edamame was perfect! I ordered a key lime martini, but received a mojito. I'm not sure what happened there but I flagged down the waitress and it took a while to finally get my drink. The Drunk Munk is a Tiki Bar near Old Town. There's indoor and outdoor seating. The ambiance inside and outside is really cute - the decorations are thoughtful and playful. There was also no wait on a Thursday night. The service was okay, our waitress forgot about us for a bit after we got our drinks. The food was average as well. The chicken tempura was fried well but definitely tasted oily, and only 2/3 of the sauces were good. They mix them pretty damn well, to the point that rum gets you like a sneaky ninja (you can't taste it, and stupid me thought they skimped on the booze....wrong!). - We also ordered the chicken skewers and coconut shrimp since appetizers were half off, and the chicken was incredibly tender, and grilled to perfection. The coconut shrimp, their namesake dish, lived up to the hype. They're fluffy and crunchy, and I could have had at least a dozen of them. This was such a cool place. We loved the feel and look of everything. We were able to get sat right away. My mom wanted to do the champagne tower and since it was her day, we told her to go for it. Stopped by The Drunk Munk for drinks and small bites with a group of seven on a Saturday afternoon. They were understandably busy, so we were surprised when they were able to sit our party right away, albeit inside. It was close enough to the outdoor patio, so we were happy. We had just eaten lunch, so we only ordered a few apps to munch on. The main reason for us coming here was for the tiki drinks. All the drinks sounded so fun and festive. I went with the Alota Colada, their version of the piña colada, which is one of my favorite drinks. Their version did not disappoint! It was perfectly fruity, creamy, and strong. While in town for the weekend my hub and I stumbled upon the Drunk Munk after seeing the awesome outdoor patio. We enjoyed a couple drinks at the bar inside. I loved the tropical menu & decor. They also had a DJ which was super fun. We loved this place so much we actually came back the next day to try some of the food. The crispy rice tuna was my weakness. Super tasty! The crispy chicken sandwich was also pretty good. Also huge shout out to the bartender who was awesome! He made some killer drinks and we had great conservation. Tiki Bar Fact: Los Angeles was home to "Don the Beachcomber," the world's first Tiki Bar (opened by Gantt) in 1934. The Beautiful Natasha A. (go add her on Yelp!) rallied up a group of us after a Yelp Elite Squad event nearby and the party commenced! I ordered the Alota Colada but I was totally jealous of Natasha's Almond Joy the whole time. Both drinks are amazing but that Almond Joy... *kisses fingertips* One of our companions ordered some food for the table to share. There was spinach artichoke dip, guacamole chips and two salsas, chicken tempura, and coconut shrimp. I was still full from the previous event but the bites I did try of the spinach artichoke dip was delish and I enjoyed the chicken tempura immensely. I love, love Tiki to begin with. This tiki place hits all my spots. The only thing that might make it more traditionally "tiki" bar is if it were darker and danker lol. Otherwise it's there. Nice open indoor seating and inviting patio. The cocktails themselves delicious. We had some snacks for the table. Really tasty. The tempura chicken strips were better than I would have expected. Light and crunchy batter. I will say that we came here after an already very boozy and food filled Yelp event across the street, so I *may have* over did it. I ordered the zombie kitten and that drink alone would have given me a buzz if I had walked in sober. It's exactly what I like about tiki-- tasty and strong! We mixed the super delicious almond joy with the zombie kitten and found our concoction (dubbed the zombie kitten joy) was perfect! Very sweet & boozy! Fun spot. Fun drinks. Vibrant, big outdoor area with water spritzers. Not the best Tiki decor I've seen, but my bar is very high. We walked in at 3pm on a Saturday in April (4 adults, 4 toddlers). There wasn't space for us outside, but we got a table inside right away. Service was fast and efficient. Cost was $62.40 total for 3 drinks and 1 dessert. The drinks we got were all tasty, sweet, and fairly alcoholic (Mango Tango, Banana Hammock, Happy Cat). The cookie and ice cream was a nice shared dessert for all of us. read more

We have been to the Drunk Munk four times. The Almond Joy is my wife's favorite drink. The waitresses are always friendly. I think this place has the potential to be so much better and have more customers if they change the music vibe to more "fun" music, such as the 80s or Polynesian music, or invest in a DJ. We were there on Saturday night before St. Patrick's Day and the place was dead at about ~ 8 PM. Disappointed! We went around the area to the local bars and I must say we will not return. The drinks were mediocre and uninspired. The food was consistent with the drinks. We tried a few bar snacks and ended up not finishing. The pot stickers are a substandard frozen item with a clunky cream sauce. The ribs were served lukewarm with minimal char and fatty. The small amount of raw bbq sauce that was drizzled over them failed to deliver the "sticky" namesake. The street corn was served sans Cotija cheese and the corn was boiled vs being freshly grilled and topped. The bartender lacked any sanitation skills and never asked how we were doing. Instead they seemed annoyed that I wanted a frozen drink listed on the happy hour menu. The bathrooms were not clean which were surprising considering there were multiple staff members of both genders just standing around.
