I'm a sucker for a tiki bar, so when we saw The Drunk Munk on our way to another bar, we ditched that idea and decided to come here instead. It was a good decision; we had a fun time here. Located where all the bars and night life is in Scottsdale, The Drunk Munk made for a fun time post-dinner. We wanted to get some cocktails and this place had your traditional tiki drinks and more. They also had a food menu, but we just came to wet our whistle. We sat out on the patio, which was fun as there were misters outside to help cool us down from the heat. The patio area also looked out to the street, so it was fun to people watch with many people out and about. I was told that this was the norm in Scottsdale on a Saturday night - lots of bachelorette and bachelor parties or just people lookin' to get lit! No judgement. I ordered a chi chi cocktail, which was a vodka based pina colada with a strawberry puree. It was dangerously good! For my second cocktail I ordered the classic pina colada, which was made with Bacardi, fresh pineapple and coconut cream. If you're a pina colada fan like me then you'll approve. Everyone enjoyed their drinks! Service was fantastic. Setting was fun. We had a good time here at The Drunk Munk! If you're looking for a tiki bar in Scottsdale then you've come to the right spot. 3 stars for this new spot we tried out for dinner. The good: Drinks were very very very delicious and a lot of fun especially with themes. I tried the zombie kitty and I was ecstatic with how adorable it was. It was also really strong. My friend had the mai tai which tasted the same as mine but regardless, it was delicious. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share and it all came out in a timely manner. I would suggest trying the edamame, pot stickers, teriyaki ribs and chicken skewers. They came out at a good temperature and it did not lack flavor. The not so good: It was hot as heck inside the restaurant. It took about a solid 10 minutes for someone to greet us at the front and when we got seated, it took about another full 15 minutes for our server to come and ask for our drinks. By far one of my favorite happy hour spots! The majority of drinks during happy hour are half off so you're basically getting a two for one deal on everything. The outside bar is fun with a group or even solo since you'll be sure to strike up a conversation with a neighbor. The happy Buddha is one of my favorite drinks. Again, come for happy hour to get this drink for half price. You won't be disappointed. There's also a flight-style set of drinks that use an entire bottle of champagne. Each glass has champagne and a splash of a different flavor. I will say, they all kind of taste the same since there's a good amount of champagne in each drink. The bites here are good too. One of the best Happy Hour deals everyday from 3-7 pm. I was able to get parking further down and walk to the restaurant. The bar is open seating and I got lucky to get the last single seat. The theme of the bar area tiki, fun cups for drinks, and cozy red plush chairs. I ordered a pina colada sushi; spicy salmon, spicy yellowtail, a side of eel sauce, edamame. The sushi was good, about 6 pieces to a roll, medium bowl of edamame. It was quite a bit of food. My drink though, Fire. The servers were witty and nice. The people around me were all so kind. Stopped in here for some drinks after HH at STK and grabbed some seats at the bar. I think it was happy hour here too at the time. We ordered the Almond Joy, Hula Hula, Mai Tai and a tequila soda to start with. The Almond Joy was my drink and it was delicious! Lately, I've been more into the coconut milky drinks. Mai Tais always taste good. I don't remember if I liked the Hula Hula or not. My friend decided to order the champagne tower after that round which came with 5 glasses, all with different flavors. I believe the flavors were mango, strawberry, blackberry, peach and guava?? We all took a sip of each but my friend who ordered it ended up drinking the majority of it. All tasted good but mixing liquor with champagne never ends well so I try to avoid it. Service was great! My friend accidentally spilled her Hula Hula drink and they made her a new one (no extra charge). I've been here when they first opened but don't remember how the food was. My friends and I came here after brunch to just drink. Didn't have a reservation but we were sat right away. We just wanted to drink before our reservation at Montauk. One thing that was a bit off for us was our server. She was kinda weird. As soon as the hostess led us to our table, before we even got to sit down the server asks us from a table away, how many people and I tell her 6. And she asks are you guys going to drink? Geez like can we sit down first. I just tell her yeah and she's like I'm asking because I'll be your server or something like that. And the tone in her voice wasn't very friendly. And then she comes and checks all of our IDs after we order the champagne tree. When she sees my ID she says omg we have the same birthdays, so I was like oh really, and she's like "well yeah but you're like 5 years older than me." Um ok..? do you want a cookie or something? Anyway I can't really comment on the food much because we literally just came to drink after a big brunch. We ordered the chips and guac, the champagne tree, and like 4-5 rounds of shots. But I felt like the chips were so oily they were hard to eat. Guac was good though. And I think everyone liked their champagne. Each glass had different fruit flavor. Would I come back again? Located in the heart of Scottsdale the location is perfect. I guess it's a good place for bottomless mimosas at a so-called brunch on weekends. The brunch is just a few breakfast items. The food was okay not impressive and very small portions especially for the price. A side salad was just lettuce and nothing else. I had an iced tea it came out in a small glass and they charge for every small glass of iced tea. It must be because they want to be mostly a bar and not a place to have lunch. The interior is wonderful with Polynesian artwork decorating the scarlet walls paired with a huge Moai statue nestled as the centerpiece in the bar with fog machines and a tropical roof. Both of our drinks the "Alota Colada" and "The Banana Hammock" were both extremely smooth and went down so easily. Excellent drinks! The food was okay. We had the "Hawaiian BBQ Salmon" which had pan seared salmon, carmelized pineapple, garlic mash, guacamole, and Hawaiian BBQ sauce. The carmelized pineapple and guacamole were exceptional but the salmon seemed a bit underwhelming and overcooked. We had the "Pizza Cookie" for dessert which was a large oven baked chocolate chip cookie with a generous scoop of vanilla bean gelato. This was alright. They should have added their own signature touch to this like adding shredded coconut or lime zest. Service was okay, they seemed to be hurried probably because they were busy. Love Tiki Bars! The place had neat decor (could hardly recognize it from the Cowboy Ciao days) and at first the service was super friendly and attentive. But after being sat and being served our first drink things crashed from there. The gentlemen filling the water cups were as Johnny on the spot and not letting those glasses get less than 2/3 full. But after we finished the first drink we thought about getting a second, but gave up on that after about 10 minutes waiting for our server to return, it took another 5 minutes before finally coming by to get us closed out. But back to the drinks themselves. Cute glassware, but lost us from there. The Bikini Girl it claimed was their version of the classic "Painkiller" and the Zombie Kitty was of course supposed to be their classic Zombie... flavors weren't off, and tasted good from a freshness standpoint but they were nowhere near the correct pour on the alcohol that you expect from those drinks. I'd say 1/2 the amount of alcohol that there should be. There's certain drinks that are supposed to pack a little punch. These missed the mark. As did the service clearly. Bummer from a place that could be really cool. I'd suggest going to Hula instead. read more

I'm glad I stopped this time. OMG, this whole area is hidden and full of so many small businesses, decor, a canal, food and a good stroll. Anyway, it was time for a drink or two. While strolling I noticed this bar that instantly put me on or near someone's beach. I was so enjoying the weather that I wanted to sit outside because where I'm from, it's not happening in December! Well, I didn't sit outside, but rather at the bar inside that gave me a view and steps away from being outside. The time was Happy Hour. I told the bartender I wanted to leave feeling extra jolly while exploring the shops. She recommend the two most popular drinks; the Zombie and Mai Tai. I first ordered both and learned quickly that the Zombie was my favorite. It was going to get me where I wanted to be. Ha! After about the second one in, it was time to eat something. During Happy Hour, the drinks and food are half off. I opted for the chicken tempura and chicken skewers. I made the mistake and ordered two skewers thinking it was one big one and it actually comes with like 3 or 4 personal skewers. One order is enough for one person. The sauce that comes with the chicken tempura are good selections. My favorite was the spicy jalapeño then the spicy ranch then teriyaki. The service was great, Zombie cocktails great great and the food was good enough to do what you needed while sipping. Out of the two good items, I would order the chicken tempura again. The skewers weren't the best to my liking. I definitely plan on stopping in again, when in town and in the area, to enjoy Happy Hour. read more

Disappointed! We went around the area to the local bars and I must say we will not return. The drinks were mediocre and uninspired. The food was consistent with the drinks. We tried a few bar snacks and ended up not finishing. The pot stickers are a substandard frozen item with a clunky cream sauce. The ribs were served lukewarm with minimal char and fatty. The small amount of raw bbq sauce that was drizzled over them failed to deliver the "sticky" namesake. The street corn was served sans Cotija cheese and the corn was boiled vs being freshly grilled and topped. The bartender lacked any sanitation skills and never asked how we were doing. Instead they seemed annoyed that I wanted a frozen drink listed on the happy hour menu. The bathrooms were not clean which were surprising considering there were multiple staff members of both genders just standing around. Fun atmosphere. Kind of a mix between Pacific islander and East Asian. Cute menu too with lots of fun stuff. We decided to make it a sushi night. They had a lot of rolls to choose from and we got a mixture of sashimi and other non-crab rolls. So they bring out plates for us and set them down. I passed them out and lo and behold, the bottom plate is dirty. Like literally was sitting on the bottom of the pile and just never washed. That threw me off a bit. The server came out of the kitchen to bring us our first rolls and when I brought up the plate, he took it away with a pretty annoyed look on his face. Sounds like he may have been dealing with some difficult staff? Anyway, this shashimi was good but pretty small cuts. The sushi rolls also were pretty small. This thing was sad. Frozen fried chicken slab on a Wonder Bread bun that had been smashed on a greasy grill. A hunk of iceberg lettuce and a soggy tomato rounded out this culinary delight with the promise of some sort of aioli to give it some flavor. I pulled open the top bun to find a pink dollop (that was the aioli) and when I asked for a side of more in order to hopefully save this mess of a plate, I was told by Ms. Personality that she'd have to charge me for it. I replied, "ok, but that's a little weird, don't you think?" While pointing to the bun. She snapped back, "geez, whatever man!". I took one bite, inedible. Gross. Disgusting. Again, this is already too much effort for this experience. Needless to say, the shrimp in the appetizer and tacos were mushy und undercooked and the chicken skewers were hammered. This disaster of a lunch came to $87. Again, the worst food and service in Scottsdale history. A joke. It's only hope of a better review would be if a meteor fell out of the sky and landed on the building wiping it from the map forever. Avoid at all costs. read more

Service was great. We were seated outside at a 4 person table over in the corner of the patio and had a great waitress. However, there was a lady sitting at the bar with a dog sitting in the bar stool next to her, then the dog was sitting on her lap, next the dog was sprawled all across the bar, all but his back legs were on the bar. Then she proceeded to give him water from her drinking cup a glass that we consume our drinks from as human beings. I mentioned it to the waitress, who said she would notify the manager. I went inside to go to the restroom, and when I came through, I heard her say to the waitress. It's a dog friendly patio and they can do what they want. So I explained to her that there are rules and regulations, even if it is a dog friendly patio, and that this is a major health violation . She got condescending and rude to me and said this is a dog friendly patio so the dogs can be anywhere and do anything that they want. I advised her, which I'm doing next, I will notify the health department. If you want a clean place to eat, this not the place to go! Service was great, management was ignorant to the laws, and as I explained already, they allow dogs anywhere on the seats, the bar and even a drink out of the glasses which you drink out of, all which is against the law and violates several health regulations. If you're interested in reading these regulations check maricopa county environmental health code. There's a section in there on dog friendly patios as seen in the attached pics. You have to wonder if they aren't following these county health regulations, what other ones aren't they following, that we can't see. I won't be going back there! Thank you for your response, Wyatt. However, it was not rectified. In fact, I spent over five minutes trying to explain how it was a health code violation to the manager and she refused to believe me and insisted it was okay because it was a dog friendly patio. Good food, kind staff, neat atmosphere, & a nice outdoor space. My husband and I enjoyed our date night here. My faves: The food, honestly everything we had was super good. My husband and I sampled a few things and shared the chopped salad, burger, coconut shrimp, & he got a shrimp tempura roll. We loved it all, & the roll was really good & I am not generally a sushi fan. What I didn't love was that they didn't mention the sodas weren't fountain sodas... it was a can & no free refills. If I knew that ahead of time I would've stuck with water. I have a hard time wanting to pay $2-3 for one can of soda. Also the inside area by the bar is pretty dimly lit at night - so just a heads up for the older generations with our bad eyes lol!
