We were seated at a booth near the entrance...the upholstery needed a little help, and overall the place could use a little sprucing up. There's advertising on everything...the placemats, the coffee mugs, the glasses. At first, I thought it was a retro decor style choice until I realized all of these were featuring current local business ads. The coffee was okay. I've had worse but there was some flavor in it so it was a step above the "browned water" you can get at other places. The food was good enough for a classic diner experience. Not elevated in any way, but classic dishes served, well, classically. The breakfast potatoes were good and I was happy they were able to do egg whites without any question or up-charge in my breakfast. Portion sizes were okay. My teenage son needed to ask for an additional piece of French toast with his meal as he was still hungry after finishing the initial serving (with eggs and potatoes) We can chalk that up to a teenage appetite. I think the sweet-spot of the Cobleskill diner is the prices. They're low. You can get the same meal at diners in other places for twice the price. They also make their own ice cream with some really fun flavors. This time it was pineapple shortcake and I cannot say enough good things about it. Beautiful texture and a great pineapple flavor, with the crunch of a buttery, slightly lemony shortcake. I'd come back for the ice cream alone. They rotate their menu offerings and flavors seasonally so it's good to keep an eye on the menu, and their store hours are pretty limited so definitely check if they're open before making the trip. Their BBQ is glorious, but trying their a la carte…read moredishes gave a sense of bitter dejavu because the food was as puzzling as at Seoul Korean Restaurant that basically put me off for life. Here's the gist: - Tangsuyuk (aka sweet and sour pork): any person calling themself Korean should know at first glance that how they present the pork and the sauce just ain't right. The lightly battered pork strips should be served on a plate, not in what reminds of Arabian Nights. The sauce gets even more puzzling. What makes tangsuyuk sauce so magical is (1) the delicate balance between the sweet and sour, (2) thick, gloomy consistency that coats the battered pork, and (3) FRESH sliced veggies that typically include cucumber, carrots, onions, woodear mushrooms, and colourful capsicum. Instead, what they served was a runny, overly tangy concoction with frozen peas and carrots (!?!?). Needless to say, we didn't even eat half of the stuff which prompted two different staff to ask if we needed a takeaway box (we said no). When we pulled up the photo of this dish on their menu and online that shows a wonderfully authentic presentation (which we fully expected to havd on our table) and showed it to staff, they had this uncomfortable body language that indicated they knew what we got on our table was an abomination, but they apologised and said what we got was what it was. I'm so baffled as to why they didn't make even the bare minimum effort to slice some fresh veggies, which I know they have available because I see them in side dishes and appetisers, for the sauce. - Nangmyeon. A lot gets lost in translation but basically, what I expect is...well, again, what is depicted in the menu photo. What I got was a very poor, austerity version and I barely ate half of it. The nauthenticity and poor presentation of these a la carte dishes are a direct replication of those of Seoul Korean Restaurant. What is puzzling is how awesome their BBQ is, from the marinade and soybean soup to the egg souffle, purple rice, and the side dishes. So, my star rating leans towards the BBQ experience vs a la carte, and that's my recommendation. They have a lot going for it and they got a lot of things right, from the tasteful music selection and industrial-meets-pocha vibe to the flat screens showing endless footages of Korean goodies preparation. Staff are patient and friendly, even though it took some effort on the latest visit to get the cheque sorted due to administratively caused overcharge. I hear they have good soon tofu and kimbap. I hope they continue to improve and get the locals on board because I'm glad they're here and I want them to thrive.

As a mall food court meal, it's remarkable Korean fast food. The man behind the counter was friendly and helpful. He said the business settled into the mall about a year ago. When it comes to ambiance, it's about the food which is displayed in an inviting manner. There's a lot to choose from. It looked fresh, good quality and healthy. Far healthier than the other food court offerings. The portions were huge. I took the bowl home and only got halfway through. I saved the rest and ate it for lunch the next day. I was thrilled that my carb options included purple rice and Japchae which are delicious transparent sweet potato noodles. It's sometimes difficult to get purple rice in the Capital Region, so I consider it to be a delicacy. The vegetable options included seaweed salad which isn't a vegetable but tasted great. My photo doesn't do the meal justice. It was a tall bowl. Some of the really good stuff was at the bottom. I really liked the spicy chicken. I was allowed to add a second protein so I picked beef bulgogi which is a tall order if I was expecting it to be great. The marinade was a bit sweet for me. It was okay. Certainly edible. I would pick a different protein when I go back.
