Fried Chicken was solid, Mac and cheese hit the spot. The bacon appetizer wasn't my kind of thing although I love bacon. Came out cold and the stuff they put on it was too sweet... but I'm not a sweets kid of dude too often. A couple items of our meal was forgotten or not placed, but the waiter brought it out to us after we mentioned it. Overall, the experience didn't make me want to tell people about the place, but it wasn't bad either. I'll give it another shot for sure as the staff there from top to bottom made you feel comfortable. I could've just been the lucky table for the night on the mixup! Great food. But Only come here if you have time to spare. We've been here for no lie 3.5 hours and have had to ask for water, drinks, ask where our food was, ask for knives, took forever to pay for our bill, waitress was never around (not to mention not very friendly). I understand Covid and understaffing, so was trying to be relaxed about it....but this is beyond ridiculous to be here for 3.5 hour and the lack of service. This was our first experience at The Eagle. Friendly staff, efficient service, and upbeat hustle and bustle atmosphere. We started off with the collard greens artichoke dip-it was creamy and had a great ratio of chips to dip which was awesome. We shared a whole fried chicken and took a few pieces home with us. The Spivey honey they serve with the friend chicken was thinner than I expected-would have liked more sweetness and thicker consistency so it wouldn't run right off of the chicken. The breading on the chicken was crispy and the chicken was really moist-very delicious! We also shared a Mac n cheese (5 Stars) and spoon bread (corn bread) which were both amazing. Overall our dining experience was 4.5/5. Would have preferred to sit at a table but didn't get the option, the honey sauce for the chicken was thin and runny, and we missed some of those usual condiments such as pepper which would have been great on the Mac n cheese. Also, parking options as usual are limited on Bardstown road. Not much you can do for that! We will definitely be coming back and recommend others do too! read more

Made a reservation at 6pm to eat at this location. Had a 4 year old with me. The hostess attempted to sit us at a high top bar which had a clear edge where stuff could fall and the small child could also. I pointed to an empty table and the hostess said it was reserved for someone with a reservation. We also had a reservation, but that clearly didn't matter. There were two empty booths at the back that were also available that they didn't offer to let us sit. What's the point of a reservation if you are not going to honor them? And who sits a tiny 4 year old at a high top? When I told them no I didn't want to sit there the hostess looked confused. Zero professionalism or good customer service. Never going here again until they fix their customer service. If you can't handle the amount of people who make reservations then fix your system. read more

Everyone had been raving about this spot, so I decided to check it out with one of my girlfriends for dinner. We didn't have reservations, but we were told that we could get a table if we *for sure* didn't eat past a certain time, as they had a reservation coming in an hour later. Okay, fine. We probably won't be longer than an hour, but maybe leave out that unnecessary detail so we don't feel awkward and rushed the whole time? Our waiter was really excited (!) to be serving us. The staff is definitely into what they're doing, and that makes it fun. Well done, waiter dude! We ordered some Old Fashioneds and they were decent. If you've never been here before, The Eagle has a lot of small dishes or sides that you can order, and most of them are big enough to share. We went this route and ordered the mac and cheese and spoon bread to share. I also ordered the kale salad to start with so I had at least something green to go with all these carbs. The salad was great! I loved all the flavors. The spoon bread was delicious, and I could not stop eating it. I LOVE sweet cornbread, so this was my jam. I wasn't blown away by the mac and cheese. This seems to be a favorite of a lot of people, but I guess I just don't get it? It comes out in a mini cast iron dish, and it honestly seemed like they poured some cheese sauce and bread crumbs onto cooked pasta, threw it in the oven for a while, and brought it out. Due to this prep, there were a lot of noodles around the sides that didn't get sauce on them and got all crusty and hard as a result. Meh. I also ordered 1/4 dark chicken for me (my friend went with the chicken sandwich). It was all right. A big pet peeve of mine with fried chicken is when the breading isn't done right and sloughs off of the chicken really easily when you're eating it. That definitely happened here. The chicken itself was moist and well-cooked, but yeah. That was a little frustrating. The breading does have a kick, so if you don't like spicy food, it might not be for you. The honey they serve with it as a dipping sauce is really spicy too, so if you combine those, it makes for a pretty firey experience if you're a wuss like I am. All in all, I'd give it 3.5 stars. It's all right, but I don't honestly understand the hype and probably won't be returning. There are better fried chicken places around town (The Cottage Inn!). read more

Alright, I know that there is a small collection of these restaurants throughout the Midwest BUT I am always surprised at the excellent service and food I receive. I sat at the bar and was served promptly and swiftly got my food order placed. The entire vibe here is Southern hospitality and it really shines through their employees and their menu. The grilled cheese was my favorite grilled cheese of all time (and that is saying something from this grilled cheese enthusiast). It features apple slices and apricot preserves on a perfect rustic bread, grilled to crispy perfection. Fries - MUAH. Delicious and served with an A+ aioli. Something that did happen that surprised me: one of the bartenders had a wine bottle explode, spraying me as I was adjacent to her when it happened. Since she was so embarrassed and covered in wine, she understandably didn't think to turn around to see if anyone else got wet. Even when we were left hanging a bit on the check when our server's parties had a lot going on, she sent her colleague over to take care of us. It was a busy Saturday night, so we ended up sitting at the bar, which was fine. Service was so quick! I ordered a chopped salad and subbed out the roast chicken for fried chicken, which totally negates any healthiness of the salad, but it was worth it. Next time I might ask for the dressing on the side because between the dressing, the chicken, the bacon, and the bleu cheese, it got a little salty. We had the fried chicken with bacon and fried chicken with coleslaw on our two sandwiches. The sides are delicious but I come for the fried chicken. The sandwich is good size and you won't walk away hungry. We sat outside on their large patio and they have adequate seating inside as well. The food was so good on the first night that we went back for a second night before leaving Louisville. They bring out a spicy honey sauce which is good but the chicken is delicious on its own. We also got burgoo, fries, and Mac and cheese. May be the best Mac and cheese I've ever had. The fries are heavily seasoned and I liked them that way. The burgoo was delicious too, reminds me of a stew my dad used to make. I got he bourbon punch which is HUGE and sneaky.. Its so sweet but it's strong don't let it fool you. Afterwards we went home and fell into food comas. Delicious food, but it requires a post feast siesta for sure! I would give zero stars if it would let me, I will keep this short and sweet. I am a Marine veteran and a Mason , I am NOT prejudice BUT I think that's exactly what happened. My mom has to use a walker and they said we could sit upstairs,while looking at my mother on the walker. So we said we would wait on a table down stairs, they said it would be about 35 minutes, no problem. The food isn't bad, but if you live in Louisville, then you know how competitive the restaurant scene is. I ordered the pork sandwich and found it to be a bit dry and with limited seasoning, the flavor was decent but not spectacular. The marshmallow topped sweet potato skillet was great. I normally don't order sweet foods, but my seat neighbor (community seating outside) had ordered one and it looked good. I'm so glad I ordered it. Great job. My wife and I stopped in for lunch on our way back home to Michigan. Saw the restaurant on Yelp and thought it looked good. When we got there we were seated right away. Our waitress, Tara came by to help us. We told here we had never been there before so asked about what was good. Tara told us to try their fried chicken and mac n cheese. We also got the sweet potatoes. She also recommended the sweet tea. This was some of the best food we've had. Chicken was great, as was everything. It's all made from scratch and you can tell.
