This was our third visit here but our first lunch time visit. We sat at the bar and although we didn't order alcohol, the bartender was attentive the entire time we were there. MUST HAVES: the white cheddar grits and the Pork Sandwich. These were the best grits I have ever had. How exciting can grits be, right? These were spicy and creamy and the peppers elevated them to a different level. I ordered them as an after thought (I got the chopped salad and wanted just a little something extra) and was so glad I did. My husband got the Pork Sandwich. Yes, I know - its a chicken joint but he said it was the best pork sandwich in the city. He usually eats every bite of his food but this sandwich was huge and he took half of it home for left overs. After doing some "hard-core" yelp searching, I found the eagle. I had my fried chicken cravings, so me and my partner in crime decide to go in early Sunday morning. We walk up and see a somewhat enclosed bar area, as in it was inside but two large doors were open. We were immediately greeted by smiling faces, asking us how our day was so far, and were sat in the bar area. We had the treat of being served by Mandi, who was amazing. She gave us a "menu tour" telling my partner and I what she liked, what was good, what their known for. We ordered the Shrimp Po Boy, 1/4 dark, Succotash, and Mac & Cheese. When our food came, everything looked amazing and we were left to eat, and not be judged by our messiness. Starting with the Fried chicken, I've never in my entire life time eaten fried chicken so juicy and tender. I HIGHLY recommend the hot honey sauce as well, the Sweet and Spicy mix it provides along with the juiciness of the chicken is so good. The Mac & Cheese, man I don't even know what to say. It is so fantastically amazing, although the Gouda cheese seems a little overpowering. It is so creamy and just fantastic. The shrimp po boy comes with Avocado spread, shrimp, and lettuce. The shrimp was very flavorful, and we loved it. It was also prepared very well. the Succotash was also fantastic, very flavorful and the bacon bits made it very tasty. Overall our service was fantastic, as was the food, and the layout. Would HIGHY recommend this to anyone in the area, except vegatarians, vegans, and people who don't like food! read more

Considering we only came in for drinks, we ate like it was our last meal on earth. The chicken and mac and cheese were fantastic. There is "magic" in the honey - make sure you try some. So so so good! Really good prices for amazing southern food. Henry was our waiter and he was great! Amazing service and menu suggestions and super funny. Our table got the grilled cheese, chicken, sloppy Joe, pickled veggies, grits, succotash, spoon bread, bacon, and chopped salads. Everything was great and came out very quickly. We dined here last Wednesday evening out of sheer curiosity. We didn't know what to expect but we were so impressed that we returned with our entire family of 9 the following Sunday. On both occasions, Eagle staff and management might very well have been the friendliest group we've encountered in our city. Henry & Jordan were both excellent servers. On both occasions, we were approached by different managers to ensure our experience was nothing short of perfect. Food: OMG! Perhaps the best fried chicken in town! Sides and salads equally impressive...we tried several. Our favorites were the chopped chicken salad, greens, succotash, mac & cheese and grits. Prices extremely reasonable for such high quality ingredients and impeccable kitchen standards. We dined "family style" which made it even more affordable. Eagle did a fabulous renovation of interior space with no detail overlooked. Very happy this Ohio based restaurant group landed in Louisville. All around A+ experience! read more

Well, I had high hopes for The Eagle. Welcoming, trendy interior, but the service fell short. We sat in the bar area and the bartender was our server. As we ordered, we had a few requests which the server decided she would attempt to memorize, i.e. dressing and mayo on the side, no croutons on the burgoo, white meat chicken, etc... After waiting 20 minutes and had yet to receive our burgoo and salad, we inquired and were told she'd check on it. 10 minutes later, we got our first course, along with our second course...at the same time. And there were croutons on the burgoo. What bothers me most is when servers think they can remember all your requests, but then fail to execute. Write it down! We won't judge if you do, in fact, we thank you. The fried chicken was yummy and the burgoo was delicious, with a bite too! The coleslaw lacked flavor and enough moisture. Generous portions, so that was a plus. If you're here on a whim, give it a try, but don't sit in the bar. read more

If you have not treated yourself to The Eagle, you have not lived a full life. After a suggestion from a friend, my boyfriend, his younger cousin and I decided to venture to what we hoped would be a wonderful meal. When we arrived it was a wonderful look and and appeared to have a great atmosphere. After walking inside I knew that I would be in love. The food was phenomenal as we all got the 1/4 white meat chicken plate, fries and mac and cheese to share at the table. The chicken was fresh and practically fell off the bone. Make sure to try the spicy honey that is brought by the dispenser full and you will not regret this spicy choice. Along with some of the best mac and cheese and fries I have ever had The Eagle is one of Louisville absolute best places to eat. I will make sure to return as much as possible. I've been here a couple of times now, and the environment is great and for the most part all the servers and bartenders do a great job, and the food is really unique- I haven't had one thing yet that I didn't like. The last time I was in there I sat at the bar, the male bartender had no reason being in the service industry. He SNAPPED HIS FINGERS at my boyfriend and I, so that "he didn't have to repeat himself to us and the couple next to us" while telling the daily special... that really rubbed me the wrong way. Didn't refill my water one time and it was completely empty. Made several comments that you could tell he was trying to be funny but also rude at the same time. My boyfriend asked for a box and he said "no you have to finish your food we don't give boxes" and we both looked at each other mind blown.. realizing he was joking but had made one too many comments at this point. When my boyfriend asked what beers that they had, he immediately got an attitude having to recite what they had.. I'm a server as well so I totally get it.. but it's part of his job. If I ever go back and he's at the bar, I'll be sitting at a table instead. Also, they allow you to have your dogs with you (which is awesome) as it is an open layout, completely outside. However, the entire hour and a half that we were there, a woman had her dog with her that barked the ENTIRE time.. a huge dog at that and we had come to watch a game on TV. Her dog even almost got into it with another dog and she was constantly telling him to stop or sit or get away from my feet as I was eating and not once did anyone say something to her. Last Friday night me and five friends decided to visit. Let me say that the environment was fantastic. I loved the music playing, it was a very good mix. Perfect for talking with friends. We decided to sit at the bar to have a few drinks before eating. You must try the Eagle Ice Tea. It was great. We had such a great bartender, Nick. He recommended the EIT. I didn't even have to order another. Just told him to bring what ever he could make as well as that. We had such a good time that we stayed at the bar to eat as well. Eat we did. First let's start with the chicken. You could also end with the chicken if you wanted. It is that good. It's nice to go to a place that says it's had spicy chicken and actually has it. But we didn't stop there. We added horseradish mashed potatoes, white cheddar grits, greens, and a plethora of other side's. The fries are a little lacking. They were tossed in some herbs and spices. Had a nice dipping sauce. But go for the Mac and cheese. By far the best side. The spicy honey they seem so proud of taste like hot sauce and honey. I wasn't a fan. But then again I didn't need for the awesome chicken. So I totally recommend The Eagle. Get the Chicken and Mac and cheese. Sit at the bar if the guy with the Tiny Rick tattoo is there. Went there for the first time last night- Pros: The food was fantastic! Great selection and interesting flavor combos which I love. The liquor menu had a wonderful selection to choose from and in addition, there were some great specialty cocktails on the menu-one of which I tried. Delicious! Our server, Mandy, did an outstanding job of taking care of us. She was attentive without being hovery-and made suggestions for both the drinks and food. AWESOME server! Cons: One con but it is important because I almost walked out in the beginning. When I walked in at first, there were 2 servers, and 3 hosts/hostesses standing at the desk. Not very friendly at all. I told them how many there were in my party (only 2 of us) and the place was not very busy at all at that point. I stood there for a few minutes while they had their heads down to what I can only assume was to seat me. I was not sure at first if they even heard me. Finally, one person mumbled to another girl, who got some menus and then asked me to follow her. Not that I expect a giant welcoming committee of course, but it was very off putting. Had it not been for the excellent food and wonderful server, I would be writing a very different review. And I would not be going back. However, I am going to assume this was a one-off thing, and plan to return. I would suggest, however, to the management, that they work with their host staff on their greeting-after all, that is the first impression of a place. And I would hate for this restaurant to lose business over something that can be so easily fixed. read more

We had a party of 3 on a Monday night, and both the service and the food were awesome. Our server, Amanda, was spot on with her recommendations; and she was always there when we needed her without being too pushy. The fried chicken and the braised pork sandwich were delicious; and so were the cornbread, macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes. The atmosphere was very nice and if it weren't so hot, we would have loved to sit out on the large patio. I have been recommending it to my friends, and I will continue to do so. The food was great, however service was average at best. Hardly saw our server. Had a reservation and was seated at the front of the restaurant directly in the path of the draft of the front door. Upon asking to be moved to a different table, the man at the host stand was rude and stated that "with a party of your size, we have no where else to put you because we have other reservations." We had an 8 top that dropped to 6. Surely there was somewhere else we could've been placed. No manager checked on our table or attempted to resolve the issue. There doesn't seem to be much of a management/owner presence which is surprising considering that this restaurant is not a chain. However, the lack of any management presence was obvious given the service we received. We all dined in our coats. I've never been to a restaurant where I was so cold that my feet and nose felt frozen the entire meal. Can't say we will be back. Food is good. Drinks are fine as well, however they don't make up for the poor service received from our waitress or the hosts. If management was present it was indistinguishable. read more

My son and his girlfriend took me to dinner at the Eagle last night for my birthday. I had the fried chicken. My son had the braised pork sandwich and his girlfriend had the chicken sandwich. We ordered a couple of sides, cole slaw and spoon bread. Everything was absolutely delicious. The chicken was not greasy. It was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Our server, Mandy, recommended the chicken and the braised pork sandwich and we are so glad she did. Her recommendations were spot on. Mandy took very good care of us and our food was hot and prompt. Dismal service. Watched some other customers get okay service but we got no love. Sat at the bar for dinner and should've left immediately when no one paid any attention to us. The bar stools were half empty, so no excuse that it was busy for Derby weekend. We made eye contact several times but no one took our drink order or offered us menus. Finally got a guy to bring us menus. He took our order, walked 3 steps to enter it into the computer, got halfway thru typing, and came back to re-ask what our order was. Ordered a beer, coke, an appetizer, 2 entrees, and 2 sides. Waited a lengthy amount of time, and watched 2 parties arrive after us, order, and get their food before us. Food finally showed and it included our appetizer (which was the pickled veggies, meaning they just had to be plated, not cooked so why didn't it come out as an appetizer!) but missing a side. We pointed that out and the side arrived, but long after we had finished eating. The server shrugged, took it back to the kitchen, and it was removed from our bill. No apology offered. We hade a 5:45 pm reservation and upon arriving on time we were told the table should be ready in just a few minutes. What happened next is what only true professionals do. The table we were to be seated at was occupied by a family of four that had been there for 2.5 hours. After a 30 minute wait past our reservation we found out that this family refused to leave, even after having their meal comped as a way to encourage them to head out. The manager Aime had stayed in contact with us so we were not left to wonder what was going on. After they determined the family refused to leave she took us to the bar and comped drinks for the 4 of us while they prepared another table for us. She did not stop there but continued to stop by our table making sure we had what we needed and comped a second round of drinks. As far as the food and table service it was a 12 on a scale of 10, fantastic! If you like fried chicken it is a must! You won't be disappointed! read more

Mediocre food and terrible service. The Moscow Mules were great though. The staff was rude from the moment we walked in until we left. Really strange. The spinach artichoke dip appetizer tasted like it came right out of a can. The bacon appetizer was really not that appetizing at all. Fried chicken was ok, not bad but nothing to write home about. Would eat fried chicken from at least 4 to 5 places in town before this place. My wife liked the chicken sandwich but the service was so bad any chance of a good dinner was ruined. We will not be going back here again. There are too many good food options in Louisville to go to a place with average food and terrible service. Stay away. read more

If i could give it less than 1 I would. We came in on a warm evening, went to bar, and 20 minutes later were rudely asked if "we needed anything". Then, we were not served for another 30 minutes. The chick bartender then accused people of being rude, and told staff not to serve anyone in our party. Since our crew each had one beer prior... it was frustrating.
