Had the grilled cheese with apricot jam and grannysmith apples. Amazing. Collard greens were as good as any I've ever had. Wife had the chicken blt and shrimp and grits. Both were amazingly good. We are definitely keeping our 1000 batting average for restaurants in Kentucky. We travel through here a few times a year and have never been disappointed. My first time in Louisville and I had to make this the first stop of the night. First off, this place is in a prime location around lots of other restaurants and nightlife. Based on the reviews and our extreme hunger, we ordered a bunch of different items. Everything came out amazing and fresh. The biscuits were soft and flaky. The jam tasted homemade and butter was also good. The chicken was tender and cooked perfectly and the skin was crunchy and bursting w flavor. The hush puppies were cooked perfectly too. We didn't get to try the candied bacon bc it was sold out. As the night went on, more items were sold out. We came around 730pm, waited 45 minutes, and waited for another 45 minutes to get food, but since we weren't in a rush and had good company and drinks, it wasn't that big of a deal. We also had a great server named Travis who made sure we were taken care of and he apologized for the wait due to staff shortage. He was extremely courteous. The portions were solid and it was a great first experience. I will be going at least once every time I go to Louisville now. read more

With so many different chicken spots in the city, it's hard to pick one. Living closer to the highlands though, I discovered the eagle one night in the summer when the patio area was bustling. We decided at that point we wanted to stop in for a beer and try out yet another chicken place. Upon entry we were quickly greeted by the young lady working at the hostess stand. She offered us seats either inside or out(we chose outside) and we were seated promptly. Within seconds the server was at the table introducing himself And within minutes our dogwood and hefe was at the table. We ordered the cornbread, a kale salad and the chicken BLT. The next time we came that chicken BLT was so good we ordered it again, and then we tried the Burgoo and a shrimp Po boy. Everything is delicious. The portions are hearty and the flavor packed. I was so glad that the chicken itself was breaded and seasoned and I was not solely relying on sauces and condiments for flavor. It's the with a great environment to top it off! read more

It's been a while since I've been back here. The last time I was here, this place was fairly new and was constantly booked! People kept reserving tables here that it was almost hard to get in. My friends and I shared a bunch of things that time, including the chicken, fries, succotash, and spoon bread. The succotash wasn't my thing, but it's always made differently no matter where you are. This time, I came with a bunch of friends. Our group was so large that we were split into 2 tables. I got the chicken BLT sandwich, spoonbread, and collards. Everything was huge and worth sharing! The collards were still a bit too vinegary for me. I've never had great collards anywhere unless they're homemade. Some of my friends got burgoo, Mac and cheese, fries, the po boy, salad, and shared chicken. What's great about this place is that you can share food, which will end up cutting your costs. This Cincinnati-based restaurant has done a pretty good job mastering southern cooking. While I've had better fried chicken, it tasted pretty good. They've got indoor and outdoor seating. They've also got two gender neutral bathrooms. Staff was fantastic and food seemed to come out quickly. I've been to this restaurant quite a few times and it never disappoints. Whenever I have people visiting me from out of town, this is the go-to restaurant and everyone absolutely loves it! Most of my family believe it has the best fried chicken sandwich they've ever had! This is a must try, all their food is delicious and their sides are amazing! Shout out to Mike for being a wonderful waiter- he constantly checked on us and was very thoughtful and knew what we needed before we even asked for something. They added a new sandwich to the menu, a herb grilled chicken sandwich, it was just okay and in the dry side, I think their fried chicken is so much better. If you're looking for good fried chicken, this is it. Can't go wrong with a quarter or half bird but the fried chicken sandwich is the best in my opinion. The hush puppies are awesome, and be sure to save the sauce that comes with them for your fries. I will say the Mac and cheese is super creamy and topped with panko for a little crunch--not a ton of flavor but it's still noodles and cheese sooo. This place is consistent and I love that about them. We made last minute reservations tonight for The Eagle with our family for 5:45 PM. We arrived a little early and were seated immediately in a large tall booth table, which we loved. Our server was very nice and friendly, but service was a bit slow. There was a bit of a lag between ordering drinks and then our food. Then we waited over 30 minutes for the food. We tried to order the hush puppies but were told they were out of them. So for the kids we ordered buttered noodles and Parmesan ($3) and a side of apple slices ($2). Everything on the menu, and kids menu, is served al a cart which I think is strange. I think kids meals should come with entree and side. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich ($12) and side kale salad ($5), and my husband ordered the chicken sandwich BLT ($12) and collard greens. Again, we waited over 30 minutes for our food. Finally a table next to us, that was seated 10-15 minutes after us inquired about their food and then both of our meals arrived at the same time. My kids, who love everything noodles, hated the buttered noodles and they are not prickly eaters. Said they were flavorless and didn't taste good. Tasted maybe under cooked. I asked for a side of Parmesan that it was supposed to come with, and when the server came back he said they were all out and offered us white cheese. Also, the portion size was extremely small. Even if my 7 and 9 year old liked it, they would have been left very hungry. I had to feed my son a whole meal when we got home. The chicken sandwiches were good, but nothing really stood out about them. The chicken BLT had a tiny smear of avocado on it and the bread was overly buttered. Our favorites were the sides. The collared greens were very rich in flavor and were delicious. The kale salad was a great portion and had homemade cornbread croutons, lots of golden raisins and was generously dressed with a light vinaigrette. Glad we came back to try it, but probably won't be back. I would not recommend for kids due to the weird a la carte kids menu and for the slow service. read more

Went here after Wagner's Pharmacy crapped the bed on service. Should have gone here in the first place. We were told the only open seats were at the bar because the rest had been reserved, we were fine with that. The chicken was delicious, the Mac & cheese is some of the best I have ever had, and the spoon bread was really good. Grits were ok, a little too many flavors added for my taste. My wife had the grilled cheese which was a slightly different take, but very very good. The service was great as the bartender came with recommendations and knowledge of the menu. We popped into The Eagle for dinner on one of our first nights in town. A friend of a friend mentioned it and it was great where we were staying. I wouldn't have guessed that this place was a chain upon walking in. It didn't feel corporate or cookie cutter in nature. They have a great outdoor patio with some fire pit tables, perfect for chillier evenings. We sat inside at the bar. I don't recall the main bartender we interacted with, but he was quite friendly. We ordered a few beers, spilt the kale salad, and I got the shrimp po boy while he got the chicken BLT. I appreciated him recommending the small salad; it wasn't huge, but was big enough for us to feel like we were getting some veggies into our diet. The salad was really good; kale has a reputation for bitterness, but there wasn't a hint of it here, they balanced the flavors nicely. My po boy was good, not great, but to be fair this is a place known for their chicken. Husband thought his sandwich was pretty fantastic. We were a little jealous of the two parties next to us who ordered the mac and cheese; that looked amazing. Overall, chains aren't usually our thing, but this one serves up some solid fare. read more

Why take reservations for outside seating if it is all communal, why not tell us immediately that all tables are communal, why not offer inside seating if there is tables we could have reserved for non-communal?
