So, I've made my way here a few times. Like the other reviews have already said, it's breaks the mold on the typical pre-manufactured NY Gay. Little chance of spotting the obnoxious pest commonly known as the Chelsea Boy here; thank god. It's cruisy for sure. But the beer is cold, and priced well. The Eagle is usually a leather/bear/daddy gay bar, but I went for a fashion party, where it was teeming with hip indies taking a night off from Beatrice or Santos. The location is kinda cool, amongst gritty car repair shops and sleezy strip joints far west in Chelsea. The layout is pretty sweet, though. Three floors if you include the dazzling rooftop deck with cheeky and naughty paraphenalia that serves as decor. I'll have to go back on a normal night (although I have a feeling the term "normal" should be used loosely with this place) to get a vibe for the crowd and drinks, etc. But judging the place by it's layout alone, it's pretty rad. read more

I have been to Eagle bars all over the world so thought I would check out the one in NYC. It's a sad joke. Shrieking 20-something messy girls who look as though they had already been thrown out of a couple of other bars pointing and giggling, the ownership completely oblivious to the disturbance, obviously just interested in exploiting a gay clientele that they no longer give a rat's a** about. I've been a fan of the Eagle NYC for as long as I've been into Leather. In better weather nothing beats rooftop nights with crowds of guys! i LOVE cruising through a sea of shirtless and leather-harnessed men to meet my buds joking, drinking and cruising on the deck. On the middle floor you can get your boots done by their Titleholder bootblack Kyle. The first floor bar is where most of the events take place. I recommend checking out the events calendar on the web page for exactly what you're looking for- but go early to get one of the prime seats cause after 1030 the bar fills fast. But the thing that's most overlooked about the Eagle is its spirit. The Eagle directly supports a number of local charities with lots of fund raisers. It's a Community Bar - one that goes out of its way to build community. When my own leatherboy club needed a place - they gave us space and advertising: it would have been much harder if not impossible to do it without them. read more

Went to the Mr. Eagle contest on October 3rd. What a great time! The crowd was really diverse, not only the leather, but all sorts of beautiful men. Very diverse crowd, all different age groups. The scene and the bartenders were fine, and I would've had a good time, but one experience really turned me off and made my visit a bad experience. I was going to go to the upstairs part of the bar with a friend and even though my friend used the appropriate pronouns (I'm a transman and use he/him/his) when we were talking to the bouncer, he kept using female pronouns (she/her) even after we corrected him and didn't even apologize or try to correct himself, but just ignored us completely. I did not expect to have that sort of an experience in a gay bar since I was dressed as a guy, and my friends explicitly used male pronouns to start the conversation. My friends and I are not going to go back here because of how rude this employee was. read more

4am close bumps this from a 3 star experience. Fitting I guess. Nothing too unique here (as far as Eagles go) Crowd is nice. Although a little older to say the least. Not complaining just giving an FYI. The amount of 'playing' was status quo for an Eagle. Maybe just in a few more areas than Im used to. Its like turn a corner and WHOOPS, excuse me guys... C'mon guys. This is NOT a leather bar. This a ridiculous place, full of everything BUT leather man. I was the only one tonight wearing leather pants, Dehner boots and harness. All around me: jeans, t-shirts, SNEAKERS (yes, really, sneakers) and women. So, leather men: avoid it. Nothing happens, there is no even place to make things happen, and people are mostly Zara customers. A waist of time. I will go again on Tuesday night to see if the Hanky Code night is different and then definitely I will consider this NOT a leather bar. read more

This place is marginal. Wear old clothes. Try not to sit (if the bodily fluids of hundreds of strangers doesn't gross you out... go ahead and sit). Bring some Purell. Make an appointment to see your doctor in advance (you'll be needing a shot of antibiotics). Do your drugs on the roof or the stairwell (near the roof, in the winter) and you'll be fine. The only thing this place has going for it (i guess) is the ease at which you can get a blow job. If you are a reasonably attractive gay man in NYC, you shouldn't have any problems in this department though, so not sure why you would roll the STD dice in this place. Bartenders practically yank your cash from your hand (which is not classy IMHO). I'm a polite and good looking man who fits the "look" of this place and always tips $2 per drink. I can easily spend $100 on beers in a 2 hours, always from the same bartender, and have never gotten a single freebie from them (lame). read more

Since Hiro was just ridiculous, I downed a few more drinks at my friend's place and headed to The Eagle with him. Now this is one hell of a space, three levels including a rooftop deck which was perfect for the gorgeous weather that Memorial Day weekend brought. I had heard about The Eagle on several occasions but it took me two years to make it here, and I realized that apart from the rooftop deck, I was hardly missing out. The bar is a dive but not unhygienic-smelly, but the crowd is sooo not ME. Bears, cubs, otters, leather and some rather smelly men who really need to take a shower. The drinks are cheap and strong which helps numb the body odor. Since when is smelling bad a sing of virility? I enjoyed the music too! Though, I wouldn't say I won't be back because I really had a good time. I believe the Saturday crowd is more diverse. I wish it wasn't so out of the way though. read more

Can you believe it took me a year of living in NYC before I got to go to the Eagle? I'd actually walked past the place once before (it's a little out of the way), and it took my bf's hippie ex to get me to go. I don't think I'd really been missing on too much, though I must confess this visit was *interesting*. I'd only been to the Portland Eagle before... not really my scene. The NYC Eagle is similar in many ways: small cockring/leather/lube shop on the first floor, where you can pick your favorite color of jockstrap, railings and chains everywhere, pretty dark rooms, older and rougher crowd (a lot of bears/cubs etc), very dark bathrooms (if they were any darker they'd just be darkrooms), and tv screens everywhere showing hardcore s/m gay porn (the kind I never ever want to see again... EVER). At least the drinks were pretty cheap ($3 Red Hook ESB on tap). Also: this place is huge: two big levels and an outdoor smoking area on the roof. Just not really my kind of crowd. read more

When the original Eagle and the neighboring Spike, both long-time landmarks in Manhattan's leather scene, closed in 2000, the gay community chalked up their departure as the end of yet another era. The former finally re-emerged as this spacious two-story club that captures the mood of its predecessor with concrete floors, seemingly endless miles of chain link fences, dim lighting, and music blaring from a multitude of oversized speakers. The pool-shooting, cigar-chomping, boot-shining crowd has changed somewhat, as a new generation of macho-wannabes dons leather, Levis, and military drag more as a costume than a serious commitment to a lifestyle. The once-pervasive sleaze has been sanitized, making this more of a neighborhood watering hole than the heavy cruise dive it once was although, despite its Chelsea location, you won't find any moisturized-and-moussed members of the sweater set lurking in the dark corners. read more

This place have such dark negative energy beside that the security on the gate was so racist i went with 4 of my local friends, when i handle him my passport I opened the visa page usually nobody touch my passport he grabbed mine and start looking between the pages like i was in the frickn airport!! and then he asked me where you from i said does it matter so he flipped it and saw "Saudi" guess what he gave me a full body check!!! I didn't say anything but my friends were uncomfortable and they asked me if i wanna leave i said its fine but then my friend from Qatar came and he did the same thing with him and he refused to let him in for no reason!! The service here is absolutely the worst, staring with the coat check, then all they accept is cash, the drinks are over priced and weak AF. Coat check charges you but can't even provide you decent customer service JUST to get your items back. It's not a high end boutique so why even TRY and act like it?!? read more

I like this bar and stop in every time I'm in NY. Always a fun, dirty, cruisy time. Should be five stars, right? But the last two times I have been there (including one jockstrap party), there were many women in groups hanging around gawking and taking selfies and just generally completely ruining the vibe and acting like 14-year-olds. When did the Eagle become a gender-mixed hangout for straight girls? Sad. It's not the place for your bachelorette party, gals. What a great bar! We visited NY for the first time September 2013 and went here the second night we were in town. We stayed until about 3am, which is easy to do! Great patio and interesting fetish night that got going around 1am. Cruisy yes, though my partner and I had no problem going together and not being bothered by anyone else (a little push away and you are fine). Bartenders are very nice and talkative. have been here the first time at least 5 years ago during a Folsom event in the East Coast and managed to be back again last night (a Saturday). music is fantastic and the ambience is perfect. it's a place to see and be seen by similarly minded people. And i saw at least 2 women with their friends moving out and about probably cruising, too (just like the rest of us that night). i knew things sexual happen in certain nooks and spaces of the bar but my eyes are just too tired from the near darkness that prevails in this place. porn is shown on the monitors, which help create the mood. i saw a lot of fantastic looking people, and i was happy with 2 of my good friends with me. beer is, as usual with everything in NYC, pricey but i managed to become tipsy. what i don't like about this place is that it's a bit of a walking distance from the nearest subway station. and if you're like me who lives in Staten Island, that's really worst LOL. this is one bar that looks like certain bars I've been to in San Francisco. read more

I've visited Manhattan from Minneapolis several times and this is probably my favorite bar (No, I'm not leather). There are lots of different bar areas to check out on multiple levels and I met some fun people. Say what tourists will about NYC, I've found the people here to be really fun and welcoming....It's especially true at The Eagle. I'll definitely be back during my next trip to NY. read more

Awesome spot. I'm in Manhattan several times a year and always pop in here once (or twice!) on my stays. Very diverse crowd - age-wise, racially, and body-wise. Super hot music playing, which makes the cruising scene feel all the more authentic. Despite its raunchy aesthetic (which is great to take advantage of) more often than not I enjoy simply meeting and talking to folks. It's easier to do that here than in many other places in Manhattan, which are often characterized by a certain image-crafted anonymous clientele. Go! read more

apparently the eagle is an institution. one that i did not know about but am now very happy that i do. a friend and i were at an art show next door in a neighborhood very unfamiliar to me (w.28th between 10th and 11th) and on one side of us was scores teeming with jocks from jersey and on the other was the eagle. for some reason the downstairs was closed last night so up, up, up we went to the really incredible roof deck. it was a hot night and the eagle wasn't terribly crowded but boys in varying states of undress in and out of leather lined the benches in cool repose. the bartender was a doll (after checking the website, i learned it was danilo)-our drinks came fast and strong (oh, i could pun here but i will restrain myself). a few drinks into my night already, i spilled my bevvie almost instantly, and kindly danilo gave me another in a jumbo-sized cup. everyone was friendly, the music was awesome, and things (at that hour anyway) were pretty mellow and sedate. i may need to return soon to get my fill of chaps. read more
