Ok our way to TN, we stopped somewhere near Cincinnati to hit a brunch style meal. I previewed Yelp and cross referenced maps and viola, a mid-trip breakfast spot. Working on exactly 43 minutes of sleep the night before, a grumbling belly, and 2 just about done kids, The Echo was perfect. They did exceptionally well in the Social Distancing Game but placing people well outside of 6 feet apart. The decor was pleasant and inviting. As far as the food, it was very tasty. I managed the eggs and goetta meal. What is goetta? Well it appears it is the only possible way to make sausage healthy. It appears to be a mix of sausage and grain and made into strips. Right?!? No idea it even existed. It was great and worth a try if you haven't had it before. My son had a grilled cheese, my daughter had pancakes and my wife hit up the egg whites and everything healthy that she could in an effort to take all taste from her meal. However, she did enjoy the egg white veggie omelette. Very fairly priced! Now I have to say the service was amazing. I mean they treat you like family. No joke. They asked if I wanted my coffee to go and the waitress literally brought over a to go cup BUT added a "top off" coffee to it so my unfinished mug would result in a full to good cup. The Echo is your typical diner with slightly higher prices. However, the Club Bendict was very good and I would definitely recommend it. The bacon was crunchy and the poached eggs were well done. The avocado on the english muffin added a nice mild flavor. One of the best things about my experience at The Echo was that despite being very busy (especially since it was Father's Day), they were able to accommodate a rather large group (8) with only a 10 minute wait. Made a three hour drive from Cleveland to visit a friend who lives in the Mount Lookout area. I was looking for a nice greasy spoon to get an omelette. This place was recommended and close by. It's located in a well-off area, so the spoon wasn't that greasy. We sat at the counter and placed an order for food. I had the loaded potato omelette with a side of fresh fruit, which wasn't bad. There was definitely plenty of potatoes and bacon, but the omelette felt like it was a two egg instead of a standard three egg (the menu doesn't specify). Would've preferred a more filling portion but this also could've been due to me working third shift and not eating since roughly 3 am (roughly 10 hours). I definitely plan to return to this restaurant to explore different items on the menu. Overall I would would recommend this place and rank it #2 of the five restaurants I tried that weekend. read more

We came here on a Sunday and mainly chose it because of its 4 out of 5 star rating on yelp. We did not have to wait but the line started to build after we got seated and I don't understand why!! The food is just ok. Honestly nothing special, just a basic breakfast. The home fries were very cold and bland. Someone at our table asked for extra crispy and they came out the same as mine. Even when it's crowded, the seat-yourself atmosphere moves quickly. I typically get some kind of egg sandwich, but opted for something different this past weekend. When I first wrote my review I had just moved to Cincinnati from a town where every other restaurant was a diner just like this one...Casual, no frills, fast service, family restaurants. Now that I've been in Hyde Park for a few years, I realize how extremely rare that is in this area! The Echo is a popular neighborhood restaurant for a reason. The Echo is my go to when I just want a solid veggie omelet with home fries and a hot black coffee. The service here is top notch. I always see the same servers every time I come here, so they must want to stick around. People are extremely friendly, and even though the line can be out the door, the wait is always worth it. If you want that old school diner experience, ask to sit at the bar. Overall, this is one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants for breakfast or brunch. read more

We had not been since the pandemic and earlier this week we decided to go back.I walked into a entirely different business.First thing I will say is..the lady at the register was nice but OMG she was wearing so much perfume that it made my entire dining experience a headache. We could smell it from our table. Not only was it too much but it was a pungent fragrance...Not what you want to smell early in the morning. I love the smell of a diner.I ordered the Bonnie's Bounty and it came with the hardest biscuit ever. The eggs were blah and the gravy was so thick it seemed like mash potatoes.The sausage was dry and tasteless. The potatoes were the worst most under seasoned potatoes I've ever had.Also ordered a pancake on the side which was almost burnt and seemed like it had sat there under a warmer for some time. My husband wasn't really that hungry so he had coffee and I also had coffee.For just that our bill was $25 plus tip. One pancake was $5 and $6 for two cups of regular coffee!! I've been going to this place for quite some time now and every time the service has been amazing and fast, and I usually only go during the super busy weekend brunch hours. There's almost always a line out the door on the weekend but don't fret, it goes really fast even if you have a party (usually). The food is great, the menu has a lot of classic breakfast staples, all of which are delicious. And there's a rotating seasonal menu as well which adds some variety thought the year. If you're there when they have their Red White & Blueberries crossaint French toast (spring time, usually) do yourself a favor and get an order. Your life will never be the same. The Echo is a breakfast gem in the Hyde Park area! It serves your typical breakfast food, and also offers items that are a little more 'upscale,' healthy,' and 'fun' than your typical diner. Think of The Echo as a hybrid between your local neighborhood diner and FirstWatch. This place never disappoints when I want a 'no-frills-attached' breakfast, but still want something a little fun. I have been to The Echo a few times and always have been pleased with my whole experience. During this visit, a friend and I arrived around 10:30 am on a Saturday morning - I was expecting at least some sort of a wait, but we were both pleasantly surprised when we could be seated right away! I ordered avocado toast (which is a seasonal item) and an over-easy egg. It came 'deconstructed,' which was a surprise, but it was a welcomed surprise! This dish included two toasted pieces of Breadsmith's Rosemary Multigrain Bread, a cup of mashed avocado, about 4 slices of tomato, and my addition of an over-easy egg. The first piece I assembled by spreading the avocado on the toast and topping it with the tomato and egg. It was really tasty, and exactly what I expected! The bread was perfectly toasted, the tomatoes were perfectly ripe and flavorful, the avocado was nice too, and the egg was a perfect addition! My absolute favorite part of this was the rosemary multigrain bread - it was absolutely delicious to eat by itself. That being said, I did not assemble the second piece because I wanted to taste every bite of the amazing bread - all of this coming from someone who isn't too crazy about bread. The Echo is a great place to go for a quality breakfast, and I would recommend it to everyone! It was self-seating and it was the perfect level of busy to where it seemed parties of 1-4 could find a seat for themselves. I had Steph's Sampler and for $10 the portions were well worth, if not more than the listed price. Let me start off my first saying that if you love local cafe's you should head to this wonderfully located, quaint local diner. This place is probably the highest rated eateries that I have encountered so far. As usual, I'll begin with the decor upon entering the establishment, the service, and finally the food. Upon entering Echo you get the down-home feel with the 60-70'ish theme. The diner is spacious although choppy. This is ok because it works for the establishment. It was well ventilated, smells like your grandmother's kitchen, just amazing environment altogether. The waitress was top-notch! She greeted us within 3 minutes of seating with water. She asked for our drink preference and came back immediately, keep in mind it was a bit busy so that was a plus. She was like a sweet Aunt making sure your had all of the things necessary to make your stay pleasant, for that I'm thankful. The food was AMAZING. We are here during breakfast, I provided pictures to buttress that statement, lol. I would recommend you order "The Steph" with the cinnamon pancake (I forgot the name) it will cost your an extra $2.50 but it's worth it. The food was hearty, meaning for the price you paid there was plenty of delicious food! The most rewarding part of my experience was that he food was hot and fresh with hot syrup. Yes, The Echo is typical diner food, but this place tops my list for breakfast every time. I've only been here twice and I've gotten the same thing both times but The Hot Mess is all of my favorite things on one plate! And the cinnamon toast reminds me of what my mom used to make when I was kid. I did get a bite of my friend's french toast and it was very good as well. The service is always great. My only gripe is this place isn't very big and they pack the people in. The process for getting your table when there is a wait is also a little...weird. There's not really a system. Someone just walks by and asks if you're waiting and how many are in your party. I didn't see any actual lists and you can get on a waitlist on the Yelp app and yet it still kinda works. This was our first time visiting, and were a little overwhelmed with options. But overwhelmed in a good way. So many yummy choices! I had to ask for a recommendation and decided on the Belgium Bird. DELICIOUS. A ton of food for around 10 bucks. Totally affordable and yummy! Let's just say they're was a waffle with chicken strips AND egg AND syrup. Sounds strange, but totally epic. I've been to The Echo a few times and it's as good as most greasy spoons can get, fast service with good wholesome food. I love their pancakes which are dense and filling as well as the homemade whipped cream which tops them upon request. One big selling point is this place has cocktails, so if you want a mimosa with your food, you can get it. I'm giving this place 3 stars because the last time I went there was a serious gnat problem which made me a little concerned for the cleanliness since it was the middle of Winter. Went for breakfast/ lunch yesterday with my boyfriend and had such a great experience! We decided to sit in a booth and lucked out having Liz as our server. She was so friendly and on top of everything! Great drink recommendations, food recommendations, and overall an awesome knowledgeable server. I haven't been here in years and they have had immaculate changes. It is such a cute, cozy spot for families, dates, or just meeting some friends. I started out with the "greyhound" drink, which was delicious. It was vodka & grapefruit, perfect combo of both. I then ordered the garden veggie egg white omelette which was astounding. Pack filled with yummy veggies, I even ate my leftovers for breakfast today and it was just as tasty. My boyfriend got bonnies bounty and a side of french toast with bananas. He orders here a lot and said it was super delicious as always. I don't usually like sausage but I tried his and it was so good- perfect combo of spices. The side of hollandaise sauce was also amazing to dip my breakfast potatoes in. They were very clean and covid friendly as well. On top of Liz's astonishing service, the other guy with the orange jeweled face mask was so stinking helpful and friendly. I came here a few weeks ago for my friends going away brunch. The restaurant is super crowded so make sure that you get there early! It is also in Hyde Park Square so you will have to search for a little bit of parking. The food was decent! Orange juice was pretty good and I got the chicken and waffles. There was a lot of waffles so I ate only about half of it. So you definitely get a good amount of food for the price! Affordable, easy, and quick. I'd come back! Maybe on a weekday! read more

A friend recommended I try the 'hot mess' the first time I've been there, and every time I return, it is hard not to gravitate towards the literal hot mess: hot fries, bacon, sausage and scrambled eggs smothered in country gravy. Yumm. It's a hot mess as ever if I've seen one, and I'd recommend it for anyone. $10, and I can never even finish it. If you're looking for a 'normal' lean/fit breakfast--they have that too. In fact, most meals run $10 or less, and it's enough food to leave you satisfied. They're hot chocolate is delicious...if you're looking for a not so heavy breakfast, I'd even recommend this restaurant to enjoy a hot drink and cinnamon bun. This has quickly become my favorite place for breakfast and brunch. It's a classic diner style place with the bar and little tables. The food is always on point. I have never tried anything that I haven't like. For some reason their hot chocolate is out of this world. There is a ton of options in the menu, from your regular omelettes, to the hot mess (you will definitely have to get one!). My favorite are the classic egg Benedict, their hollandaise sauce is amazing!! It's always super busy, but in my experience you never have to wait longer than 15 minutes in line. read more
