The burger and fries was good not great. Don't understand why they charge $1.50 for a tomato slice. Interestingly each burger is 3 ounces so if you get a double for $15 you get 6 ounces. Fries are extra. The pop machine options are unusual: Coke, Coke Zero and a bunch of no name sugar options (rootbeer, ginger ale....). I just drank water. I prefer diet coke or diet pepsi. If you order the Cavalier burger you get cheese, lettuce and onions. If you order ala carte they charge you $1 for the cheese and onions, lettuce and pickles are free. Makes no sense. The business also stated that they charge a 20% service charge automatically to compensate for carry-out orders. This is stupid. Just say you are charging a 20% service fee. Few tables in the restaurant. Seems they do mostly carryout and doordash. I would eat there again but not as a destination. read more

Needed a quick lunch on a week day and decided to check out Heyday, a burger/sandwich shop I have seen for a few years from the window of the ever-changing restaurant across the street (from Suzy Wongs to Tequila Modern). Got a double smash burger (6oz beef) with cheddar and toppings and an order of fries. The burger was excellent- very juicy and steaming hot from the grill. The fries were pretty good as well. I would give them a 6 to 7 on a 10 pt scale. Grabbed a window table to watch the world go by on Madison. It's a very small venue with just a handful of tables. Seems like they might do a lot of carryout business as a note on the menu specifies that a 20% service fee is automatically added to all eat-in tickets (this covers the tip). I have absolutely no issue with that and of course, one could always leave more for excellent service if desired. I would just suggest that they change the wording on this fee. The menu stated that the fee was being levied to compensate for all of the pick-up orders. That felt a bit off to me as an eat-in diner. Why not just say our service fee is 20% and not have to justify it as making up for the lack of opportunity with carry out orders? Note- love the artisanal design of the ketchup and mustard on my bun that the cook created! read more

With all the hype, the bar was set pretty high, potentially too high, because it didn't quite live up to expectations. The fries are absolutely fantastic. They're $10 a basket though, so be prepared for that. Their pricing is wonky. If you dine in, there's a 20% up charge in lieu of expected tipping, but if you pay with the QR code, it auto fills a 20% tip if you aren't paying attention. The signs on the wall, the menu, and the prices charged for wine and beer do not match up. It ended up balancing out since the extra dollar on my wine was cancelled out by the dollar less on my husband's beer. Eh. It would be cool if they were more aligned/transparent though. Service was ok. Everyone was nice, but they definitely seemed to prioritize carry out over dine in service which just looking at the flow makes sense, but it didn't make the extra 20% more palatable. My husband, brother-in-law and I stopped in at Heyday to try their burgers after finding out that Northside Yacht Club doesn't serve burgers on Sunday afternoon and I'm sad to say I wasn't impressed. The burgers were ok and had way too much tartar sauce, but the plain tater tots were very good. The loaded tots? Not so much. We didn't care for the cheese sauce they use. None of us were impressed with the beef tallow fries which was a disappointment and I think the prices were a bit high for what we got. The restaurant is very plainly decorated and small with only a handful of tables. They do have some parking spaces that are reserved for them in the public parking lot behind the building, so look for one before spending the $3.00 to park like we did. My husband and I are great tippers. It's something we pride ourselves on, but to have 20% "living wage" automatically added to all orders when all they did was take our order and ask us if we wanted anything else was not something we were not happy about when we still had to get our own drinks and clean our own table. Heyday delivers on being a no frills smashburger. No more, no less. The restaurant is plainly decorated, but clean and on-brand with their burger joint brand. Service is great, but importantly they charge a 20% fee if you dine-in. We ordered the House burger and a side of fries to-go and it took about 5 minutes. The cashier offered us a drink for free since we effectively ordered a combo meal, which was appreciated. The soda fountain has craft orange cream, black cherry soda, and root beer; we tried the orange cream soda which was delicious but could have been more carbonated. The house burger is a double smash burger with american cheese, shredded lettuce, diced onions, and house sauce served on an untoasted potato-style bun for $11. We both took a bite and had the same immediate reaction: it tasted exactly like a Big Mac. And when you look back at that ingredient list, it is basically identical to the Big Mac. Part of the burger was nicely smashed with some crisp lacy edges, but the other 75% of the meat just tasted like a basic burger. The fries are fried in beef tallow and seasoned nicely with salt and coarse pepper for $4.50. They have a nice outer crunch and tender inside. There is a slightly beefy taste to them from the tallow, but it is subtle. The fries are good, but you don't get a lot (we had exactly 7 fries before taking that picture as we walked home, since we didn't want to pay the 20% dine in fee). Overall, we don't have any big complaints about Heyday but we also don't have anything to rave about. The burger and fries are good but the meal costs $15.50. On top of that, the 20% dine in fee is annoying to say the least. It is always nice to support local business, but when comparing this to our favorite chain burger places (i.e. Five Guys) there is nothing exceptional about Heyday. It was fine, but we're in no hurry to go back, especially if we're picking up the tab. read more

It was a little pricey for two burgers and sides, but very delicious. I loved the tots, but you get way more fries as a side, so pick based on your level of hunger. The restaurant is tiny, but they do takeout orders if you don't want to stay. They also have free parking next to the building - just look for the signs in the lot! Finally made it over to Heyday. I really enjoyed the house burger. I normally am an extra saucy gal but wanted to try the burger as it comes. Still would have wanted to extra sauce but it was still really goood. My only complaint about the burgers would be the bun. A steamed bun or lightly griddled top would've been my only suggestion. The patties were seasoned, crisp edges, hot... a perfect little burger. The fries were good, too; fried in beef tallow and seasoned as well. The service was really great, too. I can give this place a solid 4. I tried it for the first time about a month ago and have been back an additional three times. I don't like thick, rare burgers, so these burgers are right up my alley. They are a good size and delicious, as are the fries. A few people are mentioning the "high" prices, but I think they are fair. $14 for a combo (burger, fries, and soft drink). I would much rather buy a great tasting burger from a small restaurant than give my money to big-time chain burger places and receive mediocre food.
