Took my 7 year old for her birthday. It was a great experience! It was our first time, JJ (a staff member) was great! He gave The birthday girl a free one day pass and chalk. JJ was very kind, helpful, and encouraging. He helped all of us with climbing, my six-year-old cousin cut herself (barely, but she's 6, so she was a dramatic!) and he bandaged her up, called her a professional climber, which got her to stop crying and encouraged her to get back to climbing (which she did). JJ also encouraged the adults to try, which was fun to see. I did one pass myself and only one because while rock climbing is fun, it's a workout!!!! I made it to the top though! Thanks JJ! We went on a Thursday before 3pm. It wasn't crowded. Affordable place to celebrate a birthday. We will definitely be back. It was a lot of fun! read more

As someone who's looking to get into the sport I will not get a membership at The Edge. While checking out the gym this evening my attention was diverted toward an aggressive altercation from the front desk employee toward a single mother of multiple children. This unstable employee verbally lashed out at the mom abruptly, yelling at her to either sign a waiver or get out, even when it was obvious that she was only dropping off her kids and never actually entered the climbing portion of the building. The mom, who probably just got off a long shift at work and was looking to give her kids a fun Saturday night, was distraught from the interaction and immediately left visibly shaken. The poor atmosphere brought on by the employee's disrespectful treatment of this hard-working mom has left a bad taste in my mouth and quite frankly, I will be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Such a fun experience and hard work all in one. First time rock climbing with the kids, so quite a learning experience. Maybe a 4.5- I have to get better for this to be a 5. Upon arrival we checked in, completed our waivers, and watched an orientation video (only for first timers). Parents, your are responsible for putting on the harnesses, and clipping anyone 14 and under in and out (and only 18+ can clip others in). I went alone with three kids (13, 11, 9) and so it was a bit of work ensuring all were clipped in and out. Luckily the crowd was not overwhelming and they could try each climb a few times before having to move them on which also gave me time to climb. Also, the difficulties of each are labeled, so it makes it easy to progress and know your level. If going with more than one younger kid, I would suggest two adults unless they are super patient. Easy to clip in and out once you do it a couple of times. Great confidence booster for the kids while teaching them to set aside fears and support each other, that is (gasp) technology free. Drinks are available, fair at $2 for water or Gatorade. Shoe rentals (I recommend as they helped a lot) are $5. I landed a Groupon which saved me over $20 for our party of 4. Offer memberships (have a gym as well) and boulder walls. Tips: -Complete a waiver in advance -Wear comfy clothes- workout gear -For younger kids, bring more than one adult to help clip them in and out, especially if you're also climbing -Really a good venue for building kids (and your own) confidence read more

You sign 2 waivers then watch a safety video and after that you're free to hook yourself up to the auto-belay (machine that makes it so you dont need a person holding onto the rope at the other end). This is primarily a birthday party review. We had 34 climbers on a Sunday afternoon and fun was had by all (aged 3 to 43 , give or take a few). The parties are blocked for 2 hours--- the first 1.5 hours are for climbing and the last half hour is for food/cake/presents in a separate room. The room had 2 long tables for seating (don't forget your table covers!) plus a smaller one set up to the side for your food/presents. The room is not very large--- but then again, we had a pretty large turn out so it may have just seemed small with all the people we had. It was a bit warm in the party room.... but hey, it is a gym. Kids were able to climb on time-- there were a few whom had to wait for their parents to complete their waivers in the lobby, so I would definitely recommend all to complete them online ahead of time if at all possible. Everyone who wished to go "beyond the glass entryway" into the wall area had to complete a waiver-- climbing or not. Once kids were given the orientation, they were all cleared to line up at the sections of wall (behind the white line) they wanted to conquer. The staff were very helpful in clipping the kids in and out... but we had a lot of kids so several of us parents jumped in to help out. There is a section "between the yellow lines" that most of our party had to stick to since you had to be 12+ to try all the other sections. When it comes to food, drinks, cake, decor--- this isn't Chuck E. Cheese or Adventure Landing folks. You are in charge of all of that yourselves. Our party came equipped with a cooler full of drinks (sorry folks, no alcohol allowed) and our own cake, cutlery and goodie bags. For food, we opted for ease by ordering from the local Pizza Hut to deliver straight to the gym 15 min before the kids were supposed to pause for the party room. Since our party was large, just 30 minutes for food and cake was tough. We rushed through it especially since several of the kids wanted to hit the walls again before our 2 hours there were up. Note: to reserve your party, you pay an $80 hold for date/time. read more

I've been a member here for years. Joined because of a competition between businesses. I've been able to climb outside with my husband and friends because the staff taught us how. I do enjoy the new addition of a bouldering wall and ever changing routes. I didn't wait to climb even though there were many people tonight. Enough auto belays to go around or have someone belay you on the rope walls. This place is great for kids, anyone who would like a challenge, or a party. If it's your first time there you will have to sign a waiver and watch a short clip, but its for your safety. After that you can climb your heart out. read more

Have you tried indoor rock climbing? You should! Day starts with signing your life away - pay a small fee, then watch a 5 minute video. Plenty of useful information. Learn how to clip yourself to the rope, how to properly put on harness, and what the numbers on the tags mean. While I watched my video I hear a girl have a full blown break down "I saw my life flashing before my eyes!" (She was scared of heights.) Oscar worthy stuff folks. I'm so easily distracted I miss important notes in the video. Thankfully I was here with a friend that's more alert. There is so much space. Walls covered in colored paths that are just waiting to be climbed. Monday is Ladies Night so for $10 plus tax you can climb for hours. It's a great workouts. The Edge Rock Gym is a cool place for a date activity or just to have some fun. I took my twin boys here and one climbed halfway and the other was scared so there goes that money. That has no bearing on my review. First You have to fill out an electronic waiver and watch an instructional video before entering the climbing area. The actual climb is fun and there a varying degrees of difficulty. I do however wish there were more walls to climb to minimize the time spent waiting for someone to finish their climb. I was hoping that there was a dedicated kid climbing area tailored for the younger climbers. Overall a good place to have some fun and get the blood pumping. read more

This may very well be my favourite climbing gym in the Sunshine State. I was introduced to this sport while I was a student at UNF. Naturally, The Edge was the best place to climb, train, and have fun! Although it's not a huge gym, the place is an excellent place to climb. There are two bouldering areas, a top rope/lead area, and auto belays. The setters are some of the best around. Furthermore, they have chalk eaters, which make for a much more comfortable day of climbing without inhaling a ton of chalk dust. As a member of the gym, you can bring in one guest per month and have access to the fitness area. Whether you're a Jax native or just passing through, The Edge is a cool spot to check out! read more

It was an awesome experience. Customer service was excellent. The staff was helpful in walking us through the process and safety trainings. It was super easy to navigate the walls and ropes. This place is just really fun! Hands down. It's also a bit of a challenge if you're a newbie but mainly it's just really fun. My friend invited me along to Edge Rock as he was trying things to add to his activity regimen and while I've always wanted to try the whole "rock" climbing it has always been a little intimidating as well. The space isn't the largest but it works for what they are trying to accomplish. There are walls of varying levels of difficulty that you can climb. The autobelay wall was the one I primarily stuck to (on the more beginner friendly side) but my friend was able to get me to try a bouldering wall. He also tried to convince me that any of the bouldering walls on the first try would be easy. Ha! My momma ain't raise no fool. He fell a third of the way up on the bouldering wall. The experience is definitely something I would return back to. It's a great full body workout that you feel for daaaaaaays afterwards...or at least I did. And it was fun! It's $15 for a daily pass and you can also rent chalk (which helps you grip better) and shoes (just in case you don't want to use your own). Those are around $3-$4 a piece. If you've never climbed before it can be a little daunting but it's fun once you get the hand of it. They do label the "rock" by color for difficulty. You must sign a waiver and watch a video if it's your first time here. Other than that, you are on your own. You place the harness on yourself and go at it. We did this as a couple's night and everyone enjoyed themselves. I'd recommend hand chalk and climbing shoes. I wore tennis shoes and they tend to slip often. read more

Indoor rock climbing?!? Why not?!? Monday night is ladies night, you get in and a harness for $10... Not bad at all! I did not rent shoes but I think I will next time, they are supposed to be more snug to your feet to help you grip the smaller footholds. The gym itself smells like wet dog/sweaty sneakers and the mats seen like they are falling apart but the rock walls and harnesses worked well. There wasn't really any instruction other than a quick tutorial video they make you watch but it was enough to get you climbing. A bit more direction would have been nice. I liked this gym. I was visiting Jacksonville, and I'm fairly sure this was the only climbing gym that was relatively close to the city. It's so far the smallest gym I've been in and could probably utilize the space a little better by adding more routes to each wall. I think I saw two routes on most walls which are mostly fine, but I think an experienced climber could climb the gym in a few hours. A less experienced climber will likely climb it even faster if they only did the few routes in their bracket and even fewer if they depend on the auto belay. Not to beat a dead horse here but it's a small gym. The bouldering section was well utilized with many routes. I came at a rare time, and none of the problems were graded, but I could tell there was a good range of all level bouldering routes. I enjoyed visiting this gym, but I think it would be hard to get super into climbing if this gym was my only option in the area. I'd love to see the gym expand a little and add a traverse route that goes from left to right of the whole top roping area and perhaps some bouldering routes in the top rope section as it wasn't busy and it could easily be utilized without too many collisions. Overall, a good time and a healthy activity. I paid $13 for a day pass on Groupon and returned for the military night and paid $10. Not bad. read more

Came here because I bought a Groupon. Nice facilities. I like that it's all one open room with benches in the center and that each wall/area is designated for bouldering/belay/autobelay. I like that they have a good amount of auto-belays for those who solo climb and don't want to stick to bouldering. You can rent shoes here and the ones I rented weren't in bad condition or gross. Everyone here is pretty friendly/courteous and people take turns climbing. It got a bit crowded when I visited but maybe with more visits I'll find a time that isn't as busy so I can get more climbing if I'm not too exhausted! Definitely a fun experience! read more

I've never been to a climbing gym before, but this was quite an experience! I had fun, but on a Sunday it got busy SUPER fast and the amount of kid, as well as "regulars" made it a bit overwhelming. The positives: If you've never been, no worries, the friendly staff is there to make your experience memorable, fun and most importantly, safe. If you do not have your own gear, you can rent a harness, shoes, as well as some chalk. They even offer a membership if you are an avid climber. There are different walls and levels to climb, so if you are feeling ambitious, try out the harder walls - it is truly a work out and rewarding once you reach the top. There's also a separate gym area for a workout if you choose to do so! The negatives: Like is said. It. Can. Get. Crowded. I feel like there's not much crowd control, so if you are not watching out nor paying attention, someone can easily hop in front of you and climb first, since there's not really much a queue nor organization. Yes there are staff around to help you with any questions as well as watching the general vicinity, however, they hang out a lot near the frequent climbers. Plus, those climbers seem to linger in one spot for a while, which can be some time before you're able to climb at that same spot. I WOULD go back at a slower time in the day to be frank, though I know it will get busy at some point. I need to build my strength though since climbing is VERY different from my regular lifting. I started coming here about 2-3 weeks ago with a friend of of mine. Because of a Groupon. I was nervous at first because I've never rocked climbed. They have this video you watch that helps you get the handle of things beginner wise. The rock climbing area is also for kids so you have to watch around you. They have classes if you want to further your experience, but the prices of things are expensive, but that's any sport or hobby. They have things you can rent there for rock climbing which is great! I've been going for a couple of weeks now and have brought other people and they love it. It's a great fun way to work out. There is bouldering and Belay as well, but you have to be certified of course. I will keep coming here, and will get a membership eventually. read more

Pretty cool gym! I went here for my first time ever rock climbing. The staff was very friendly and very helpful. If they saw you struggling they would give you some pointers. The other climbers Rosseau a pleasure to deal with. Very easy conversations and very friendly people. I gathered that a lot of the people were regulars there. Friday nights are military and student night so we were able to get a discount as well. And it sounded like there was also a membership/club at this location. All in all it was a very nice facility and everything was pretty clean including the locker rooms. read more

The Edge: an amazing place for breaking a sweat, solo or in a group! It's indoor rock climbing... heck yes!! Gone are the days when you cringe at movies or commercials with people climbing up real cliffs, with life-threatening heights D: The greatest thing about indoor climbing? Auto-belays. And auto-belay in my own words is a pulley that fully attaches to your harness and is activated by changes in your weight. Basically: when you want to move, it moves with you, and in the direction you intend. I'll admit: I was SO SCARED the very first time I let go of my auto-belay from the top of one of the courses and just kinda hopped downward. However, auto-belays are very reliable and even work well with small children (from about 5 years onward, depending on weight). If you're a control freak... prepare yourself before an outing at The Edge. The Edge also offers regular belays as well as BOULDERING. Yes, for those crazy people who climb rocks without a harness AT ALL. Those with no finger strength need not try (myself included). It's pretty cheap for a day pass (average about $15 a person with shoes). All new patrons have to watch an informational video a couple times before they go out on the courses, for which they give you a punch card, after which you can just pay and climb. They also offer monthly memberships at awesome rates which are all on their website. I'm considering one myself. There's also a small gym attached to the lobby on the other side. You can get a membership for just the gym, just the Edge, or both. Very reasonable rates. One of my favorite places in Jax. read more

We took a group of military teens and had called a week prior to set up trip. The lady we spoke to let us know that it was okay for us to have Parents fill out waivers online and because the adults taking teens were guardians they would just have to show IDs, however upon arrival the manager on site stated we needed to have physical copies of teens parents identification. We stated our teens were minors and could not do that and that parents had done waivers online as spoken on the phone, he would not work with us even though wr have taken groups and never had this issue nor did they require physical ids from minors in a group. Other groups have gone recently and had not been asked for minors to have physical pictures of parents Military ID or drivers license I asked manager what they did once they had the paper copies and he said nothing. He would not bring person above him to help, they definitely are not group friendly. Last 3 times we did go the staff and management were amazing Im not sure if they have new people but they were not the best today with our group and it is disappointing we will not be returning nor will promote a business that is not group friendly, the inconsistency with group information is something they need to work on so that groups that are traveling more than 1hr to this location aren't turned away because of lack of communication on things needed had we known they needed parents I'd physically we would have not attended. read more

Staff is extremely unwelcoming, particularly the floor staff. As a newer climber I felt like I was being scrutinized for no good reason. I went on a super busy day with mainly kids climbing, however, I did not expect to be watched like a hawk by the ONE floor worker. I wore my own harness and safely clipped in to both hard points, sent a problem and safely belayed down. The worker then approached me and asked, in the midst of kids running around and screaming, "Did you clip in to both hard points?" I understand that you want your customers to be safe, but approaching me three separate times during my hour long visit seems excessive. As a first timer at this gym I can confidently say that I will not be returning due to unwelcoming staff, holds that look like they've never been cleaned, and an overall a lack of hygienic practices. read more

I come here every time I go to Jacksonville to visit friends and family. Over the past couple years the staff has added an additional bouldering wall and the setting has gotten more diverse. This is a great place to bring family and beginners! All the staff are more than willing to help you out and teach you everything you need to know about climbing. The facility itself also has a really big gym equipped with weights, hang boards, and machines. Saturday morning, lines weren't long at all. Kids had a great time for several hours and we were allowed to bring in snacks and food to keep them properly energized for climbing. My fiance' (before she was my fiance') and I snagged a Groupon for The Edge Rock Gym a number of months back. Thought it would be a fun little date night and it most definitely was! The staff was friendly and seemed to really enjoy their job which is something you don't always see. We signed the appropriate waivers, put on our harnesses, went through the training scenarios with the instructor and we're on our way. We had a lot of fun. Hosted my 13 yr. old son's birthday here and it was GREAT! Really helpful staff made everyone feel competent- The kids had a fantastic workout, and the competitive ones took turns racing each other up the walls. The staff was available to help the whole time, the party room was a nice size for our group and we had it the whole 2 hrs. And kudos to Edge Rock and Papa Johns for their collaboration in offering a great pizza party delivery deal. Again, highly recommended and fantastic staff!
