Very charming inn with great hospitality and amazing gourmet breakfast!! Went for a quick weekend getaway in early October. We arrived on Friday evening just before the evening happy hour was about to start. We enjoyed some snacks, a chicken dip and cocktails on the porch of Trellis house. For dinners we walked short distance each evening- one to the Maine catch and other to the Italian restaurant across the street. The room was very nice, clean and very tastefully decorated. Had a little kitchen too. Bed was comfortable. Dining table with a couple chairs. Downstairs outside there is a cute little sitting area either an outdoor fire pit. The hosts were both very friendly and welcoming and so were the staff. Very pleasant all around. Breakfast next morning was amazing- two courses - first one was a lemon blueberry crumble cake - very yummy. Followed by an eggs Benedict on English muffin with bacon and tomato- I asked for mine fully cooked and they were happy to - some of the others also asked for the same. It's close to the water and the cliff walk - so that's what we did Saturday morning/afternoon and got some gorgeous photos of the ocean. This is the kind of place where you wish you could give six stars or more! From start to finish our albeit brief stay was perfect. The owners, their staff and their adorable dog Bentley went out of their way to make every minute perfect from flawless and welcoming accommodations, happy hour invitations, welcome champagne, helpful tips on area attractions and restaurants... I cannot say enough about the beauty of the property and the staff that supports it. Breakfast was an incredible delight! As if the perfect stay weren't enough, one of owners, who also has authored at least two cookbooks, put together one of the best breakfasts we've ever had! And to top it off, the value! I cannot believe we experienced all of this at such an affordable rate. To boot, you're walking distance to downtown and Perkins Cove. Cannot recommend this place enough and we will most definitely return soon! read more

Returned first time with new owners. Can't improve on the location...right off Marginal Way and between town and Perkins Cove. Wonderful to see the inn updated and we'll cared for. Breakfasts unbelievable. So excited forgot to take pics the first day of tropical fruit salad and strawberry stuffed brioche. Second day was even better! New owners present and engaging. All employees professional and personable. Prefer off season visits but alas they close 10/31. Hope to return next year.... read more

Beautiful inn, great hosts/owners and the food is delicious! The owners are incredibly friendly, helpful and available. Their dog Bentley is adorable and a great little companion to have on site. Clean accomodations. Great happy hour and breakfast! Centrally located for easy walks downtown or to Perkins Cove - great to have. Loved our visit and will definitely be back. Recently returned from a lovely 4 night stay at the Blue Shutters Inn. We have stayed here many times over the past 30 years and it's still a favorite getaway. The current owners and hosts have totally gone through all the rooms and updated them. They have made the inn bright and welcoming and all the little touches really add to the charm. Breakfast is provided each morning in a lovely breakfast room. The food was delicious and skillfully prepared. The Inn is located very near the Marginal Way which is a beautiful ocean path. There are numerous restaurants and shops nearby and the Inn is centrally located. You can just park your car and walk wherever you need to go. We'll definitely be returning. read more

We celebrated our 54th Anniversary here the end of July 2021. Laurence and Glen the owners and hosts (always on site I may add) were a treasure! So very amiable and making sure all was top notch for our whole stay. Our room was #6 adjacent to the Trellis House Inn B&B. Also owned by them. The room was beautifully appointed. Attention to detail was a must.. Very clean and we were very comfortable there. Wonderful deck chairs on the deck outside the room with a view of the Ocean in the distance was so peaceful.... It is located Half way between Perkins Cove and downtown Ogunquit. A nice leisurely walk if so desired. If not Trolley pick up close by. We chose breakfast in the Inn although the sweet little kitchen in the room has everything needed if you would want to cook in your room. Laurence also is the Chef for breakfast. It was delicious.. Blueberry pancakes/ Maine blueberry syrup and homemade granola/greek yogurt and fresh fruit and wonderful coffee.. We also had the next day a Black Forest Ham and Swiss Croissant French Toast with Maple Mustard Syrup.. Mine was a veggie Croissant French Toast. both with the most delicate asparagus ever... Also with that was a oatmeal cinnamon fresh cream and berry amuse bouche.. It was so filling we had a late lunch about at about 4..... on both days of our stay. This is a quaint quiet place close by to everything. Park outside your door and enjoy the area... Oh and the most beautiful Labradoodle named Bentley is the "resident" pooch. Just delightful and so well behaved. He is there but never bothers or disturbs.... Will definitely stay again. read more

I stayed here back in October while in town for a Conference - It is so cute! I had a suite in the back building and it was very spacious with a little kitchenette & a bathroom. A lot bigger than I was expecting! It would be perfect for two people or maybe a couple with a small child. I mainly interacted with the younger man who worked there, Brian maybe? And he was so nice! He was able to answer a lot of questions for me, and was friendly every time I saw him. I never made it in for breakfast, and I do wish I had stayed in the actual Inn house, but i would stay here again! It is not far from town and on it's own cute little road. The road can be dark at night, but the street isn't busy and most of the houses are well lit outside. I also enjoyed walking along the Marginal Way, to the downtown area, and to Perkins Cove! Being right in the middle of everything was great! Checking in and out was easy as well. read more

Our stay here was absolutely amazing! We visited Ogunquit in early September and stayed in the main house. Our room was very clean and comfortable. We enjoyed a fantastic breakfast every morning which was prepared and served by the inn owner, who could not have been more pleasant and welcoming. A fifteen minute walk along marginal way brings you to Perkins cove. The inn seems to be in a very central location to all of the popular spots. Would definitely stay here again! read more

This inn is under new management. We stayed for 2 nights in the blue room. It was clean, some ants. The owner was very nice and even gave us a bottle of wine because the fire heater wasn't working for the first few hours, but was fixed quickly. The inn was right on marginal way to take a walk along the coast and a few minute walk to the center of town. It was also about 10 minute walk to perkin's cove. The main issue was the price per night for what you get. We have stayed at other b&bs and part of the experience is the wonderful breakfasts served in the morning. Here, it was mostly cold cereal, granola, some fruit, yogurt and hard boiled eggs continental style. Maybe this is common in the inns in this area, but coming from a wonderful b&b in portland the previous 2 nights with gourmet food cooked to serve, this was disappointing. Overall a pleasant experience, but probably would not come back unless some changes were made. read more

Great location, very kind hosts! Easy walk to downtown, Marginal Way, Perkins Cove. Clean rooms, plenty of parking, never heard anyone else in other rooms. There was a kerfuffle (on Expedia it looked like it was 100% pet friendly, but when we checked in it turns out only certain rooms are pet friendly) however they were quite accommodating. I got the sense from other reviews as well as comments made by the owners in person that they are new to the B&B scene. If you keep that in mind I think you will enjoy yourself that much more. Don't sweat the small stuff :) We stayed in two rooms because of the dog; the first was QUITE small (described as "cozy" lol) with a double bed, small stove/heater and did not have a TV. If you are looking for a place to sleep only, great room, located on the back side of the main house. Our second room was in the back detached house with ocean views, kitchenette, sofa and small little bar with two seats. Comfortable bed and small TV (but no cable, so truly not really even worth it. TV shouldn't matter on vacation but in December there isn't a lot going on up there!). I'm sure by the time the busy summer season rolls around it will be more fantastic than it already is. read more

Really not a bad b&b. Clean decent sized rooms, not horrible pricing, not bad location. Breakfast pretty good. Here's problem...their WiFi sucks. It's like flashback to dialup bad. There's no excuse for that in 2018. None. They need to address this problem. Owners are so nice. After further thought, I'd stay here again. read more

Brian and Mira are the new Inn Keepers and have done a wonderful job with this gem of a B and B. The place is clean, beautifully appointed and has a pet friendly room which we used. The main house is very comfortable and a great place to read or book or play backgammon. Oh, and don't forget the breakfast. Mira is a great cook and you will not go away hungry. My wife and I have been staying at the Blue Shutters Inn for our anniversary for several years now. Our latest stay was in june of 2011. We have always had an excellent experience and have found the inn keepers to be very accommodating and helpful. The exterior of the inn is well kept and the rooms are clean and cozy. The view from the ocean side of the inn is spectacular and it is located within a one minute walk from the shore. With it's location on the Marginal Way, you can easily walk to Perkins cove, downtown or the beach. We highly recommend this inn - ask for the Blue Room! read more

If you are sensitive to fragrance, you WILL NOT BE HAPPY at this B&B. As soon as we arrived and entered the office, a scented candle was burning away and then when we got to the room, there was a plug-in G​lade "air freshener" blasting away ​toxic fumes ​in the room that made me sick. I unplugged it immediately and had to open the windows to air out the room before I could catch my breath. We were unhappy to find that all three of the bedrooms that we looked at had an end table on only one side of the bed. If both of you want to read or to have a place for anything you might want bedside, you will be out of luck. And not having an end table means not having a light at both sides of the bed (except in the larger more expensive room downstairs in the main house). The bathrooms were lacking some basic elements such as a place to put your bathroom essentials. It would have been easy to add some shelving to place your toothbrush and other items but there was none. To make matters worse, the toilet seat was the open type you see in public restrooms​ so if you placed anything on top of the toilet, it could easily fall in. ​There should be a ​hair dryer ​in each room. Ours did not have one but it was ​provided​ upon request. Besides the one plug in the bathroom light, there are only two other electric plugs in the room. One was located outside our bathroom door and the other one was bedside. If you plan to plug in more than t​hree​ things at a time (since a lamp already occupies one plug), you should bring a small power strip with you. The plug by the bed is not so useful since there is no table there to place anything on. ​Actually there is an additional plug behind the end table next to the bed but it would be very hard to access.​ We were told that wireless Internet ​was provided ​and I connected to it with my laptop and got five bars but it was working so poorly that I could do nothing on the Internet. I switch​ed​ to a non-password protected wireless access point provided by the B&B next door and their connection worked perfectly. Wireless Internet is so important to many guests that I can't understand why they have not taken care of this problem. If you bring your smart phone and plan to do all your work on that, then of course you won't care but I need to use a laptop and was very unhappy when I was able to use the Internet. There were no TVs in the rooms although there was one in the public area you could use. We were told that they would have TVs soon but if this is important to you, inquire in advance. The alarm clock was broken more or less as it did not display constantly but rather flickered on and off. The innkeepers did not take the time to re-set it when day light savings time changed so it was an hour off. I don't know about you but figuring out how to set an alarm clock is not what I want to do when I am on vacation. And you can buy an alarm clock for five bucks on Amazon so there is no excuse for not having one that worked properly. ​ The baseboard heat in the room was supposed to be controlled by a thermostat on the wall in the room but apparently it was actually just running all the time. The innkeepers seemed to know this as they reported that guests often find this room too hot. Well, duh, if the heat is on all the time, it's no wonder. We opened two windows and left them open all night so that we would not broil. This is a major fail in my opinion. Having traveled in third world countries quite a bit, I am no stickler when it comes to bathrooms but if you want the chain hotel experience, the tub is not going to make you happy. The tub was outdated, the caulking around the tub and vanity not well kept up, and hot water faucet turned to the left to turn it off rather than to the right. ​Otherwise the bathroom was functional with plenty of hot water and good quality towels. There was a nice gas fireplace in the room so if you like to get cozy in front of a gas fire, you will like that. The hardwood floors were also nice along with area rug in our room. The establishment gets an extra star that would not have been provided otherwise for the delightful baked goods offered fresh each day and evening in the public area of the main house. All ​the good things that have been said in other reviews about the good location ​is​ true. Another great feature of the location is being just steps from Marginal Way which is a seaside pedestrian trail that runs about a mile towards Perkins Cove and is often listed as one of the top attractions in the area. The owners are new to the business, having only taken it ​over a few months before our arrival so I am hopeful they will tackle these problems as time passes. And there is certainly nothing wrong with the rooms. The bed was firm and the furnishings though basic were fine. read more

I stayed in the Blue Room, which had ocean views. It was a very cute room with a nice bathroom. The owners were very friendly and breakfast each morning was great! I loved that they had snacks and coffee/ tea all day for us. The only disappointment for me was the bed was very hard and unforgiving. Neither I nor my boyfriend slept well on it. This could be just preference though. I would definitely recommend!! read more

The place was available last minute. Really appreciated their honesty that room was (very) small. There is no TV (fine with us). We agreed to all of it. It was clean and a perfect home base to head to beach. Breakfast was delicious. Staff was pleasant and accommodating. Room could use some updating. But terrific location.These new owners will have place at 5 stars in no time! read more
