In the ten years I was a regular at the Edison diner always thought their service was top notch. Having to manage several chronic illnesses has kept me away for 8 years. The first time back I didn't expect be treated in such a degrading manner. There were barely any customers and I simply wanted to check their cakes and get a coffee to go. I ordered with the manage upfront and he immediately acted like I was wasting his time. I then asked a very common question what the frosting was on the red velvet cake. He rudely snapped back saying "just normal cake frosting," as if there was no other options. But I then asked if it was buttercream or cream cheese, when he replied with buttercream he had such a degrading attitude acting like cream cheese was such a ridiculous option. After paying $3 for a small coffee, I took a sip and noticed it had almost no coffee taste. I went back and mentioned it, he rudely said he didn't understand what I meant, insisting he'd been making the same coffee for 20 years, as if coffee could never be diluted then STRONGLY implying the issue was me. He brought out the second cup and the little cream I asked for looked almost translucent. I then calmly just asked for a refund. He muttered something under his breath and then almost flung the money at me like I was a piece of sh*t, telling me to never come back. Im still speechless at what happened. Breakfast at our favorite local diner. BLT with slaw, pickle and terra type chips - great breakfast, but I should have asked for crispy bacon. Surprised at the terra chips, but it was pleasant surprise. Daughter had a corned beef hash, potato and two fried eggs, and my significant other had two fried eggs and potato. All were tasty, and the two dishes came with two slices of buttered toast. Nice to be in a busy restaurant and seeing everyone enjoy being with one another and having a great breakfast. First time here. Arrived around 10 PM and the place was busy -- always a good sign. The menu is massive, and the portions do not disappoint. Our waiter was super friendly and kept the conversation going for a while, which made dinner entertaining. I had the Malibu burger -- much avocado and crispy bacon.! I did a quick taste test of my friend's sweet potato fries and instantly regretted not ordering them myself. Overall, great food, great vibe, and great service. Very bad. All of the bread they are using on their sandwiches is SO THICK, you can't even get the sandwich into your mouth! The grilled cheese wasn't grilled with butter. The bread just tasted toasted and very dry without any butter. The French fries were ICE COLD! They sat the four of us down to an extremely small booth and there was no room for plates and side dishes. When we first got there and seated, no one brought us menus. I had to get up and take my own menus. Very slow service. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THE EDISON DINER! I have been going there for years and I will never return. I came in late to The Edison Diner , after a Mannyhatty trip. We had about an hour left. It was dimly lit , probably 6-7 tables filled and the esthetic is very well taken care of and " kitschy" . The host first thing let us know that the diner was closing soon .. thank you sir yes. The tables were adorable and had awesome curated Menus as seen in my photos. The food was the best part. I ordered the deluxe cheeseburger with mayo and ketchup and it had bacon which was possibly the BEST bacon on that side of Jersey!! I don't know how they cooked it but it tasted like how Korean pork belly tastes lol. My partner ordered the Eggs Benny and he found them to be a bit watery and I had to agree but overall we were both pleased. The 3/5 Stars comes from me ordering the desserts and the insane amount of money that was and I am 99% sure the host kept a $1 which was so weird in itself , had I addressed this -it surly would've just invited drama I wasn't in the mood for . AND you could just tell from his demeanor he's " like that " . I didn't say anything because his personality reeked of male toxicity. I apologize truly because the food and ambiance was darling. TLDR: decent food but expensive Edison diner is a classic - big menu of restaurant hits. I got the chicken cordon bleu sandwich, which had a healthy amount of chicken, ham, and cheese that hit the spot. It did feel a bit lacking - no contrast in textures from a crisp bread or chicken, no sauce to add different flavors - it was just the sum of its parts. The disco fries were delicious - perfect amount of gravy without making the fries soaking wet and a generous portion of mozzarella. I've been coming to Edison Diner since they used to be open 24/7! A cozy diner right off Rte 1 that serves large portions for basically everything including the sides. I think they've increased pricing across the menu because it definitely was not as $$$ -- ended up spending $100 for 3 people and one of us didn't even get an entree! Service was okay. Our waiter was patient and attentive however staff kept staring at our party , it was my sister and I with our kids and well it felt pretty judgy. When we got up to pay it appeared as if the staring intensified as if they thought we would walk out on the table. This place is always consistently good. The staff is friendly and the food is predictably good plus it's a convenient location right on rt 1. It's a cozy family diner and nothing overly trendy or flashy, if that's your vibe (it's definitely mine). I usually get the same things when I go, so I decided to branch out and tried the pesto chicken wrap and it was delicious. The pesto tasted fresh and garlicky and the chicken wasn't dry at all. Holy moly the prices are outrageous now. Over $20 for most of the sandwiches and paninis and over $28 for most entrees. Matzo ball soup was good but lackluster. Needed salt and pepper. Husband said the French onion had a good broth but it looked underwhelming Had the buffalo chicken wrap and split it. The curly fries tasted old, not freshly fried. The chocolate cake was incredibly dry. It kept crumbling. It was more reminiscent of carvel crunchies with how dry it was. I had a very pleasant experience at the Edison Diner. I went on a Wednesday morning around 9:40 AM. There's a spacious parking lot that goes around the whole building. When I arrived, the lot was pretty much empty, so I snagged a spot right in front of the doors. When I walked in, the host warmly greeted me with a friendly 'Good morning' and seated me right away in a booth. The diner was very clean, including the bathroom, and had a nice color scheme with a vintage vibe. Mary was my server, and she came over immediately to greet me and bring me water. She was attentive, fast, and made sure I didn't feel rushed. She checked in with me during the meal and always kept my glass of water full. I ordered the short stack of pancakes with two eggs, sausage links as my choice of meat, and orange juice. My food came out in less than 15 minutes. Everything was nice and hot, the pancakes were fluffy and buttery, the sausage links were cooked to a perfect golden brown, and the eggs were good, my only criticism is that I had asked for over medium but my eggs were more over easy. The pancakes were so big I started to wonder if I accidentally ordered the "stack for two"! I couldn't finish them and took the rest home as leftovers. At the end of the meal, you pay at the host stand, which takes both cash and credit/debit cards. My total meal was around $21 and change before tip, which was well worth it for the food, portions, service, and overall experience. This time, though, wasn't ideal for a lot of reasons. I ordered the banana nut pancakes, and when they came their was neither banana nor walnut in them. They were plain cakes, hard as rocks. They felt as if they'd been rewarmed. also asked for crispy well done bacon and got strips that were just this side of raw. When I pointed out the problems, the waitress shrugged and said the kitchen was closing. They reduced the bill, but unfortunately the pancakes could only be eaten around the outsides.
