A little diner here to serve the community. Nothing fancy but good folks and good food. There were multiple people in the place that were regulars and talking to the server and cook. The place has changed a bit in the past year with a whole new menu. We stopped in for breakfast and got served a delicious meal. My eggs were cooked the way I liked them and the potatoes were very well done with crispy bits everywhere. The pancake hit the spot and came out in like a perfect circle! read more

This place was perfection. I know it doesn't look like much when you pass it but the food and service speaks for itself. Came in here for brunch and got omelettes and they were delicious. The service was great, very sweet, super helpful and attentive. The food was amazing, large selection, and it everything you could ever want from a diner. From the outside this place is nothing special. Inside there is a counter and about a dozen booths. But look around and you see the usual diner grill, a pizza oven and, what got me right away since we were there for breakfast is a coffeemaker with a full coffee bean grinder. Fresh ground coffee at a diner I find very rare and the coffee is very good! We ordered two omelettes. The menu says they are made with four eggs. You can believe it! Our party of two ordered the Bacon, Tomato and Cheddar Cheese and the Stadium. They were overstuffed with ingredients and filled our plates. My dining companion loved his Bacon, Tomato and Cheddar Cheese. My Stadium was filled with ham, bacon, peppers, sausage, onion, tomatoes and cheese. It was a very tasty and filling omelette on its own, but then add the potatoes and toast and I could barely move when I finished! This is an unassuming place from the outside, but I'll need to go back to try more items. Maybe even try their pizza. read more

The Main Street Diner (and now Pizzeria) seemed like a good bet.  The reviews looked good, and the photos were fine. Atmosphere: When we arrived, we were the only people in the restaurant. That's how it stayed the entire time! It's a tiny diner that fits about ten parties. There are a few booths and a few tables. The booth we sat in, we cramped, but it was the size of all of them. The Main Street Diner could use an update.  It's clean, but it's outdated. Coffee: The coffee was brewed hot and fresh. There wasn't anything special about it, but it wasn't bad either. Food: When I arrived for dinner, I had no idea what I wanted. Did I want breakfast? Lunch? Or the unique pizza option? The menu at the Main Street Diner has a little bit of everything. They have all of the diner specials and well as the unique pizza. I originally ordered pork chops but they were out, so I decided to order the chicken souvlaki instead. It was a stuffed pita with chicken, lettuce, tomato, and Tzatziki sauce.  I was feeling healthy, so I ordered a side Greek salad as well. The dressing was one of the best I've had in a while, and the souvlaki was stuffed. My meal was great. Service: The Main Street Diner is unique in that when we came, the hostess was also the waiter, chef, and part owner. It was a one-person show! I can only imagine how tough that can be when it was busy, but he was friendly and great. We had a delightful experience. Overall Thoughts/Summary: In all, I had a great experience at the Main Street Diner in East Brunswick. Ok, not bad. I did a bacon cheese burger, not deluxe, and it came as advertised- just bacon cheese and meat. Meat actually wasn't bad at all, and plenty of bacon on there. Nice sized bun, this was a quality diner burger. They messed up the corned beef sandwich and gave it on the same bun as the burger, not the requested rye bread. The meat was super dry, and combined with the big bun it was like eating sand. That was not so good. Wife loved the chicken wings and we both liked the fries. They came unsalted, so you can adjust that to your liking. Overall, pretty solid- I'd be happy to order form here again. read more

I can't really give a review since I haven't eaten here since the 70s. But was amazed to see the old Big Al's Luncheonette still doing their thing. As a kid, we used to hang in the back and play pinball while we would listen to tunes on the old record playing juke box. Up front, they used to sell those little red Swedish Fish for a penny a piece and they used to put them in a brown paper bag for you. I hope this brings back some memories for other's. So, G. knew exactly where to go. He'd remembered I liked the looks of this place, so, we went. It's small and in a tiny strip mall. This place is quintessential NJ, to me. I don't want fancy or modern in a diner (or, any place for that matter). Qualities like that don't give one character. The menu is multi-page/huge, as I would expect. I chose the make your own omelet with home fries (someone said in a previous review that this place had the best home fries, so, I had to see.) He ordered the 5th Ave. Sampler with French toast (which was thick cut bread and quite substantial). The home fries were nice and crisp, like patatas bravas. The 3-egg omelet with cheese, tomatoes, mushrooms and spinach was perfect--not overdone and not runny. I ate everything except for one slice of toast and G. cleaned his plate. Tried it for dinner. Not exactly what I expected decent menu but cook cannot live up to extensiveness of menu. Good idea in theory but epic fail. We had simple diner fair but it didn't compare to any diner food. Its a shame bc it has potential to be a good restaurant. Prices are reasonable and service is attentive and accomodating, but that's it. Maybe breakfast and lunch are better but I don't expect to go back any time soon. They need to make menu smaller and simpler to help out cook. I don't know if that would help. read more

BEST LITTLE HOLE IN THE WALL DINER. We've always driven past it wondering.. we should stop there one day. We went one Saturday night to grab a quick dinner because it is right around the corner. I got a pastrami/corned beef wrap with coleslaw which was so good. Hot pastrami with the cold coleslaw was a great combination. My bf got a burger. Good fries. Everything was so good (and so cheap!!) that we came back the next morning to get breakfast. It was quite busier in the morning. So I sometimes order from here because there breakfast is really good. This place gives you a bunch of options which is nice and the food is good. But what is goin on with there hotdogs so I got my hotdogs the Italian style and the jersey not on hot dog buns no on a French roll like what you use for cold cut sandwiches so that's odd. They were also super soggy and rubbery basically inedible. The Italian dog was missing half of its ingredients and the hotdogs were cold and lacked any flavor. Main street diner has always been a wonderful place and I am always excited to go there. The food is delicious and fairly priced. The waitresses are friendly and polite. The girls Rachel, Lee and Aleks make this diner worth stopping at whether you're a local or just passing through town. If you're unsure What to eat for breakfast, try the 5th avenue sampler which has a little bit of everything all for under eight dollars! Went back for lunch for first time in over a year. Food is still just mediocre. I had a turkey BLT and a cup of chicken noodle soup. The soup tasted like an instant cup of soup and my cup contained no chicken. The turkey BLT was OK. The turkey was roasted breast, not some deli concoction. I ordered from the main street diner today and had it delivered. I got about five different things off the menu and I honestly thought all of them are good. The delivery was quicker than anticipated which made me happy. I was looking for a new place that delivered and was happy to find this place.
