    Tomato, Bacon & Cheddar Omelette
    Barry H.

From the outside this place is nothing special. Inside there is a counter and about a dozen booths. But look around and you see the usual diner grill, a pizza oven and, what got me right away since we were there for breakfast is a coffeemaker with a full coffee bean grinder. Fresh ground coffee at a diner I find very rare and the coffee is very good! We ordered two omelettes. The menu says they are made with four eggs. You can believe it! Our party of two ordered the Bacon, Tomato and Cheddar Cheese and the Stadium. They were overstuffed with ingredients and filled our plates. My dining companion loved his Bacon, Tomato and Cheddar Cheese. My Stadium was filled with ham, bacon, peppers, sausage, onion, tomatoes and cheese. It was a very tasty and filling omelette on its own, but then add the potatoes and toast and I could barely move when I finished! This is an unassuming place from the outside, but I'll need to go back to try more items. Maybe even try their pizza.

The Main Street Diner (and now Pizzeria) seemed like a good bet.  The reviews looked good, and the photos were fine. Atmosphere: When we arrived, we were the only people in the restaurant. That's how it stayed the entire time! It's a tiny diner that fits about ten parties. There are a few booths and a few tables. The booth we sat in, we cramped, but it was the size of all of them. The Main Street Diner could use an update.  It's clean, but it's outdated. Coffee: The coffee was brewed hot and fresh. There wasn't anything special about it, but it wasn't bad either. Food: When I arrived for dinner, I had no idea what I wanted. Did I want breakfast? Lunch? Or the unique pizza option? The menu at the Main Street Diner has a little bit of everything. They have all of the diner specials and well as the unique pizza. I originally ordered pork chops but they were out, so I decided to order the chicken souvlaki instead. It was a stuffed pita with chicken, lettuce, tomato, and Tzatziki sauce.  I was feeling healthy, so I ordered a side Greek salad as well. The dressing was one of the best I've had in a while, and the souvlaki was stuffed. My meal was great. Service: The Main Street Diner is unique in that when we came, the hostess was also the waiter, chef, and part owner. It was a one-person show! I can only imagine how tough that can be when it was busy, but he was friendly and great. We had a delightful experience. Overall Thoughts/Summary: In all, I had a great experience at the Main Street Diner in East Brunswick. I wasn't sure what to think of it at first, but it was a pleasant experience, and I'll be back.

Great food. GENEROUS servings! No frills good ol comforting diner breakfasts! Have chef friends and brought them here, all agree this place has delicious food. The food here easily beats any of the bigger well known diners

MJ's in Spotswood had the 'Dowden Brothers Band' for last night (5/29) on their website, but in…read morereality only one person was singing and playing an acoustic guitar in the bar area. Is it a false advertisement or an "one man band"? Very disappointed to say the least since we went there so we could dance to a full live band. Having one person playing in the bar area just adds more noise. A full live band is loud and energetic which drowns the noise and gets people on the dance floor and sit there tapping and/or nodding their head. Before 2026, MJ's in Spotswood had full bands playing almost every weekend. Now it is just the other way around with one or two musicians. You really need a drummer to get people on the dance floor. The Cabin restaurant in Freehold on the other hand always has full bands playing every weekend and the dance floor is always packed as well as the rest of the restaurant. We like MJ's in Spotswood since it is close by us and our friends. We hope it will bring back full bands on the weekends regularly. Also, We went to MJ's in Spotswood last Tuesday night (5/26) for their prime rib dinner special. It didn't come with a salad. Asked for an end cut but they said they don't serve them. The prime rib on both plates had globs of un-rendered fat and gristle but no crust. We spent half of our time trimming the fat and gristle away. The cheese on the baked potato was not even melt. The bacon bits on the baked potato were so dry and hard. No butter or sour cream. The only thing good on the plate was the green beans. So not sure their prime rib dinner is worth the price.

This location does not have outdoor seating, they did not have some of the items to make the drinks on the menu and the food just wasn't the same as the matawan location. 11/11/25 - Nice to have my daughter home for a holiday. So that can only mean one thing.... pizza…read morelunch! Today I visited Sandy's Luncheonette and Pizza in East Brunswick, NJ. I visited Sandy's years back when it was a little hole in the wall pizza shop. They have redone the entire inside and have much more than just plain slices in the showcase. I ordered a plain slice and a buffalo slice. The plain slice was pretty flavorless. It's definitely a thin slice pie. The cheese is premium and the cheese flavor overpowers the sauce and the crust. The sauce has very little flavor and it's largely because they appear to not use any Italian seasonings. The outer crust and undercarriage is crunchy but a little on the dry side. The sauce is skimpy which doesn't help with overall dry texture. The slice is definitely firm and crispy so it stands up and there's no toppings sliding off at all. The buffalo slice is a much better experience than the plain. There is an abundance of chicken, cheese, blue cheese sauce and buffalo sauce. This slice is also very thick and hearty. The outer crust is crispy but even more dry than the plain. This makes sense because when you make a pie this thick, you definitely have to cook it longer. I would say that they probably use too much blue cheese sauce and too much buffalo sauce but some would consider that nitpicking. I think a great deal of the problems here is the vastness of menu choices. The menu is comparable to diner menu. They literally have hundreds of choices. When you do that, you can probably do a lot of things well, but none exceptionally well. They even advertise on their menu that they offer all day breakfast! If they want to be considered a true leader in the local pizzeria realm, they are going to need to cut down on what's offered and focus on making great pies. Until then, they are an also-ran. It has a nice, elevated atmosphere, so you should dress semi-formal. Prices are on par with other upscale restaurants. The food has always been excellent and the service as well, most of the time. You absolutely MUST get the Clothesline Bacon as an appetizer. Make sure you slice some pickle with it and squeeze a little lemon juice on top! The manager urged us to try it that way during one of our visits - we never looked back. Rather than eating in the dining area, we chose to sit at the bar for their Foxy Hour (Happy Hour) offerings. There are plenty of tables surrounding the bar as well. We had the Clothesline Bacon, 6 Oysters, Hipster Fries, Spicy Lobster Mac, and we each got the happy hour burger. Everything tasted great, but the hipster fries were a little greasy and lacked the shishito peppers they had last time. We finished off with the Eclair Trio dessert from the Specials Menu. On two separate occasions we were seated at an awkward table in the back of the restaurant, right near the kitchen service area and door to the outside patio. We weren't thrilled to be there, as there was constant traffic in and out of the kitchen and through the doors. I think they should just do away with those seats, so everyone can have a relaxing dining experience no matter where they're sat. If you've got a special occasion coming it, Orchard Park is worth checking out!
